He scoffs, "If mind readers exist, they could get it from ye, just as easily. We could talk quietly in your storage room, no one could 'ear were we in there. I been tortured before, never bad 'nough to tell anyone anything."

The Irishman blinks, since that's not exactly the way he expected this secret to start. He keeps a firm hold of Orient's hands though, hoping that will reassure him that he's made the right decision. He can't help but feel thrilled though, considering how long he'd wanted to know more about the other pirate.
