Danny had just enough light to progress before the tunnel closed behind him. Now he was truly blind. He wasn't claustrophobic per say, but he certainly felt trapped. s**t! I bet the guys are flipping out now...

~~~
Ricky put down the binoculars and turned to the group. "We...have a slight problem."
"Did we go over traps involving the light at the end of the tunnel to be a possible bigger trap?" Reaper looked over at Ricky. Before he could respond Victor had leaped from their cover and was sliding downhill from their vantage point. "s**t, s**t s**t!"
"What is the situation," Liz said as she followed Reaper down the hill. She looked behind and saw that Rei was already no where to be seen, only a parting cloud of dust...
Just as the tunnel closed Rei arrived at the mountain face several minutes ahead of the others, just a split second too late to make it in. "********!" she yeah as she beat her fist against the wall, repeating the process as she continued to swear, "********, ******** ******** <******** class="clear">
Ricky made it to the mortician side a little while later. "What the hell happened? You didn't tell us about that kind of ability!"
"Why would Zack take her through a mountain? Where are they going that he would want to speed up the trip?"
Tinker rubbed her temple as she stood by the giant plexi-steel pane serving as the viewing window into Stifle's viewing room.
"Let's try this again," she said as she pointed to the objects that they had found on Stifle, now held up against the windowed wall by small stands. "What exactly are these objects to you? I've been able to figure out just about everything about what they are, except what they mean to you. We are trying to help you, let us."
Several scarves shot toward the doll but were once again defeated by the thick wall. She hissed, but it was low and subdued, almost mournful.
Mother's love and father's hate...
Make a life in dark fate...
The doll is Mother who held me dear,
The glasses, Father, lost in fear...
She seemed to peer at the broken lenses of the glasses a** she rubbed her "face" against the glass. "Father can't hurt me now..." she whispered in an in audible tone, no doubt picked up by Tinker's instruments.
The cassette tape, as Tinker no doubt listened to, had a man's voice repeating seemingly unconnected words in a voice that sounded like one a trained hypnotist would use. The doll was made of twine and a lock of gorgeous golden hair.
"Can't hurt you?" Tinker said as her thoughts raced. "Did your father do this to you? Is he the man on the tape?"
"I'm playing your song mother....he can't stop it anymore..."
She was speaking in that low tone again, completely oblivious.
"Sure," Liz said as she and Victor arrived, "It's just rock, he can move as he wants pretty easily. Honestly, it would be and ordeal on its own to explain all the things we know he can do with earth and plants, and I've really stopped trying to guess all the things he might be capable of that I don't know about. The question is, why would he use his powers to help cut their travel time? There is no way she would know he could do this if he didn't mention it..."
Liz paced for a few moments before she pulled out a ear piece and put it on. She began talking, "Tinker, are you there?"
There was nothing for a moment, then, brodcasted out of the piece, loud enough for the others to hear, "Yes? What is it, I am busy at the moment."
"We need to know something," Liz replied.
"Really? Like I said, busy."
"It will be quick, I need some satellite imagery."
A sigh, and then, "Where?"
"Directly on the opposite side of the mountain we are currently located at."
"Moment."
There was a pause of about 10 minutes before Tinker spoke again, obviously in a rush. "There is mostly woods, but I think what you are looking for is a small town. It looks pretty abandoned, from the images that came back most of the buildings are pretty decrepit and a few seem to be rotting at this point. Some small farmland and a grove of...oh boy."
"Oh boy what?" both Liz and Rei responded in unison.
"This town, I am 100% sure now, was Zack's home before incident that led to Eden abducting him. The coincidence of you being here is...rather astronomical, but here you are."
"Thanks Tinker, that's all we need."
The connection was cut and Liz looked at the others. "Well, I guess that answers the question. He must have convinced her to go to that town some how."
She rubbed her chin and said, "Though I am not entirely sure why right now, what does he want there?"
Rei said somewhat weakly, "To say goodbye?"
"Sorry about that Stifle, duty called. Now, what happened to your Father? He was a rather brilliant if ethically questionable scientist, but he dropped off the face of the earth years ago. Did he have something to do with what you are now?"
For all the awards and shouts of fame
The pretender's heart stayed so lame
No love for those he took apart
Til Stifle came and took his heart
All of her scarves converged at once and tried to attack the glasses. The force was so great that the ends of the scarves frayed and a tiny crack formed in the glass.
"So you killed him then," Tinker said just before Stifle pounded the wall hard enough to put a hairline fracture in it and visibly vibrate the translucent barrier.
Tinker was startled enough to take a step back before a stern look crossed her face and she said, "I thought we were making some progress, but if you don't calm down I will have to close the blast door on you; or do you like being put in time out?" The last few words were rather comical coming from Tinker, who was not only still quite young, maybe 16, no more than 18 to most people, and built with a fairly slender frame. He playing the parent now was only slightly less ridiculous that it might have seemed when she was first made part of the Hunters while still a young child.
"What is the situation," Liz said as she followed Reaper down the hill. She looked behind and saw that Rei was already no where to be seen, only a parting cloud of dust...
"Perhaps she was looking for a place to rest that we wouldn't see coming," Liz said. "Unfortunately for her we have Tinker. Our problem with using the satellites before was we really had no idea where to look with them, that kept her safe from that form of tracking. Now that we know where they are going we can watch for them."
"Until then, we get a move on," Liz finished. "We are lucky that we are near the edge of this mountain. It will still take us a few more hours to make it to the the other side than they will, but if we book it we can make it to the town before they leave."
For all the awards and shouts of fame
The pretender's heart stayed so lame
No love for those he took apart
Til Stifle came and took his heart
All of her scarves converged at once and tried to attack the glasses. The force was so great that the ends of the scarves frayed and a tiny crack formed in the glass.
"So you killed him then," Tinker said just before Stifle pounded the wall hard enough to put a hairline fracture in it and visibly vibrate the translucent barrier.
Tinker was startled enough to take a step back before a stern look crossed her face and she said, "I thought we were making some progress, but if you don't calm down I will have to close the blast door on you; or do you like being put in time out?" The last few words were rather comical coming from Tinker, who was not only still quite young, maybe 16, no more than 18 to most people, and built with a fairly slender frame. He playing the parent now was only slightly less ridiculous that it might have seemed when she was first made part of the Hunters while still a young child.
Stifle huddled close to the glass and whimpered. "Not the dark! Not the dark! Stifle nice! No dark!" She stared through the glass seeming to notice Tinker for the first time. "You smell like Tinman. He hurt Stifle. You like father?!"
"Tinman?...You mean Ratchet?" Tinker said and then in a softer tone. "Ratchet only hurt you to stop you from hurting others. You have to understand that you were trying to kill two boys at the time Octavia. He would never be ok with standing by and letting that happen."
She thought of the best way to answer Stifle's last question and then responded. "No, I am not like your father. I am a scientist, I won't experiment on you and I won't hurt you if can be brought to reason. Whatever he did to you was wrong, very wrong. We want to help you, and, if there is a way to bring you back to the girl you were, I will find it, you have my word."
Tinker buried her face in her palm in frustration. She was about to say something when a sound rang on the intercom and she looked up. She looked at Stifle for a moment before turning and leaving, only to come back about a dozen minutes later.
"Danny boy lie! He say he never leave!" Stifle screeched. She suddenly dropped to a whisper again. "Stifle all alone. Stifle not girl, not Octavia, is creature. Is evil. Father say so." She began to pace animal like.
"No Octavia, your Father was a bad man, and he was wrong. You are still a person and you're not evil, at least not underneath all that hurt you're are carrying. I've met a lot of people doing what we do and a lot of them haven't come out of the fire of life unscathed. Some of them didn't have it as bad, some, a very few, maybe even worse. What has always mattered the most for those people is understanding that what was done to them was not their fault, and doesn't make them bad people just for living through it."
