Hello. Haven't been on in a really long time! What are we talking about?
PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 2009 5:04 am

GOING TO SEE IT TODAY WITH MY BESTIE! AHH I'M SO EXCITED!

Meatball: Yeah, I read all of them after seeing OoTP as well...so this is the first one where I read the book BEFORE seeing the movie...but it's been a while since I read it, so maybe I should chew it up after seeing it once, just so the movie is still kinda light in my brain so I don't automatically think the movie's better just because I saw it first (which I didn't, but still).

Turayza: No, I know they don't stay COMPLETELY true to the book, but was it enough that it was enjoyable? Or like, was it more so than GOB and OoTP?
Haha that's why we're getting there close to when the place opens so we can all sit together. I really don't get the point of why it's so bad if we can't sit together. I love to be alone when I'm watching movies. I never watch movies with my parents because they talk through the whole thing. I hope my best friend isn't like that too.

Hobamoo: Hi! We're talking about the new HP movie...as soon as I get back, I'll finally be able to understand everything in white, haha.

Kineka where did you get that face paint?

Anyways, I am going to Tijuana Mexico today. I am not looking forward to crossing the border, stupid strict border lines.

Wish me luck at the dermatologist.

Have fun watching hp!

I saw Half Blood Prince last night and well early this morning :wheee: My goodness I think it has become my favorite movie yet. Maybe it's because I didn't read the book before going to see it. Also, Entertainment Weekley gave it an A- and I couldn't agree more with them smile

My little opinions on the film (: I probably repeated a few things you guys said, but anyways...

Alright so first off I loved how whenever the Death Eaters would apparate, black smoke would form and go in the path they were traveling. I thought it was really clever and it sent a lot of chills down my spine. Helena Bonham Carter is the perfect Bellatrix Lestrange. She's insane and evil and even if you hate her, you cannot help but love the character (at least I'm that way). Narcissa's hair reminded me a lot of a skunk. She was supposed to have only Platinum blonde hair like Lucius and Draco. I suppose the directer just wanted the physical similarities between her and Bellatrix to stand out and to show they're sisters though (I do hope they keep Andromeda's hair brown). Alan Rickman is the perfect Severus Snape. He really embodies the character and he is exactly what I think of Snape to look or act like.
Lavender Brown was possibly the funniest character in the entire movie. When she drew the heart with her and Ron's initals in it out of steam. The parts where Ron eats the love potion chocolates, when Harry drinks the Felix Felicis, and when Ron and Harry discuss just why Dean likes Ginny so much werre also really funny to me. Two funny parts in the books that I wish they kept in the movie were when Fred and George visit Ron in the hospital wing ("So all in all not one of Ron's better birthdays?" whee ) and the conversation of Harry's Hippogriff tattooed on his chest (Hungarian Horntails are more macho). I loved every single Ron/Hermione moment in the film (I really cannot wait for more of those moments in Deathly Hallows).
When Katie Bell touched the necklace and was being thrown around by it, I got so many chills down my spine. They did a great job for that and same for in the cave with the inferi. I jumped nearly 5 feet when the hand reached out of the water. Michael Gambon convinced me that he really is a great Dumbledore (Goblet of Fire made me doubt him greatly), but I have to say that his performance was lacking when telling Draco that he was above killing him. Speaking of Draco, Tom Felton did an amazing job with his character. He was very convincing and I felt sorry for the guy :c
The attack on the Burrow was absolutely amazing. A part of me really wished that had happened in the book because it worked so well. It showed that really no place is safe during these times. Even the places you call home could be attacked. Also, I loved that they had already paired Remus and Tonks as a couple (at the same time I wish they kept to the books for that). I understand why her hair was a dark brown, her hair is more of her usual bubblegum pink when she's in a cheery mood. She was definitely not cheerful in the ten minutes you've seen her in the movie and it reflects in her hair colour and style.

@turayza: I didn't think she looked sane at all. Her appearance fitted her personality quite well. I liked that she had a bent wand as well. She's a crooked person, her wand reflects that. I agree with you for Luna though. She could have been a lot more eccentric as she usually is, but I still thought Evanna Lynch did a good job.

@para: I loved Pansy and Blaise! Even though we only saw a few minutes of them, I thought the casting was great for them.

@Kineka: Have fun watching the movie!

November 19, 2010 cannot come sooner and neither can July 15, 2011.

Lol, looking at the most recent posts is kinda funny XD It's a little slice of text and a big expanse of white, harhar.

Blanc: Omg, I liked the Death Eater smoke, too! It was really cool XD Totally not canon, but fun to watch. And yeah, Bonham Carter was a great Bellatrix.
Wow, I can't believe I forgot about Lavender! She didn't look at all like the way I pictured her, but I think the actress captured Lavender pretty well (:
The cave with the inferi was very intense. I jumped in my seat XD We ran out of space in the theatre so I was sitting next to two strangers, and they looked at me funny : P
The burrow seemed...different in this movie. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but I don't recall the burrow having tons and tons of floors and being so...wooden-skyscraper-esque. It kinda weirded me out.
Maybe it's just because Bellatrix was so much more...ruffled...in Book 5 because of Azkaban, but that image just matched her insanity more :l

Omg. I know, I am so excited for the seventh movie(s)! I'm glad they're splitting it into two...especially because it's the last one, and I hope they do a good job with it n.n

Para: Crossing the border is a pain x__X But Mexico sounds really fun! I've always wanted to go (: What are you doing there?

Kineka: I think they changed a lot (the plot direction shifted) but it was still a really good movie. I read so much fanfiction that I've lost sight of actual canon, but I think they did Half-Blood Prince pretty well.

hobamoo: We're having a conversation in white XD It's just a big fest of HBP spoilers.

narikoxneji26: Oh...I forgot about the wedding stuff. I think they decided that it wasn't as major of a plot point as all the other things, which I actually agree with. There are a lot of details they missed, but it was still a 2.5 hour movie anyways XD
The Weasleys dye their hair, really? I mean, Ginny's hair looked a little strange, but Rupert Grint looks like a natural ):
The movie producers cut out the meaning behind the title of the 6th book, but yes--Alan Rickman was brilliant as usual n.n There'd be something seriously missing without him.
Dumbledore's hand kind of ticked me off. It didn't look at all shriveled--just a little blackened. Grr. And Harry just glanced at it!
I think the Christmas scene is in book 7? I'm not too sure about that, though. Are you talking about the one where Scrimegeur gives Harry the open-at-close snitch?

Finally I can give a little white review thingie! biggrin Very good movie, I must say, but I don't remember much of the book...I need to check up on it and reread it...my parents are even reading it because everyone said the book is so much better.

First of all, I have to agree with all of you that Tom Felton and Alan Rickman did WONDERFUL jobs with their characters. Tom was so hot, I almost melted. I did feel bad for him, though, when he was supposed to kill Dumbledore. He was scared, I mean honestly, truely scared. This proves my theory that he wasn't really BORN evil, he was just raised around it and forced by Voldemort to pursue it. And I think that when Bellatrix was destroying the Great Hall, he looked heartbroken, as if she was destroying his home. And, me and my best friend both agree that he sort of admired Dumbledore somewhat, that's why he couldn't kill him. I mean, yeah he was mean to him, but I think he still can't really imagine his life without him, ya know? Actually, when Dumbledore died, I was sitting in between my best friend and mom, and they were both bawling their eyes out. I have to say, I teared up just a bit. Didn't really cry, though.

I kind of don't understand the whole Tonks/Lupin thing. In the book, they got together near the end, but in the movie, the only reference to that at all was Tonks calling him "sweetheart" when Bellatrix set the Burrow on fire...were they dating then?

I have to say, I LOVED the fire scene, after Dumbledore drinks the potion and he's making all the fire on the water. That was cool, I have to thank the special effects team for that.

And I think Michael Gambon did a pretty good job playing Dumbledore. To be honest with you, I couldn't imagine the older Dumbledore (Richard what's-his-name) doing that with Harry. He always seemed like the calm, cool, and collected person, and I think him being affected by the potion wouldn't really be as realistic with Richard as with Michael.

Also, Bellatrix is one crazy b***h. I guess years in Azkaban can do that to a person. Drive the woman insane, why don't you? But I think Helena Bonham Carter did a really good job playing Bellatrix. I don't think there was anyone better to play her. Just like there's no better Snape than Alan Rickman. I think they were both the best in the movie, easily.

Now, on to this era. I LOVED the Ron/Hermione moments. I mean, they were sad and all, but you could definitely tell that Hermione loves Ron and Ron just doesn't see it. But he loves her too, it's not like he loves Lavender and the thing with Romilda was just a love potion. But I thought it was so adorable when Harry and Hermione were on the steps after Lavender kissed Ron and Hermione was crying on Harry's shoulder. It's like, they're both there for each other because they're both hurting because of the same thing (Hermione seeing Ron with Lavender and Harry seeing Ginny with Dean). My best friend and I were both like "Aww, Hermione... crying "

Actually, I was GOING to ask what happened with the purple hair on Tonks, but now I understand it since Blanc explained it. I guess that would make sense, since in the book, she was a wreck because of Sirius. I hate that they never really put her in much, but she IS vital to the story...I think, anyway. Not just because she's one of my favorite characters, but I think her marrying Lupin and having Teddy, being a part of the Order, and then dying in the last book...I don't know, doesn't that signal some kind of significance?

Now my pet peeve was DEFINITELY Narcissa's hair. I mean, BROWN?! SERIOUSLY?! She's supposed to have platinum blonde hair like the rest of them.

Oh and on Pansy and Blaise...Blaise was HOT! I always pictured him as hot, but actually confirming it is like...WOW. And was that Pansy sitting next to him on the train? She wasn't the same as the Prisoner of Azkaban actress who did it.

Also I think Draco has this obsession with Granny Smith apples...I know it was only in two of the movies (this one and POA) but I notice things like that. Just a little tidbit I thought I'd bring up.

I also think that they needed the other memories. My parents were really confused, and when I told them there were more memories in the book, they rushed home to start reading it. So I think that the memories were a vital portion of the movie.

Evanna Lynch did an AMAZING job with Luna. I agree with Emma Watson, she IS Luna Lovegood. I loved that lion or tiger or whatever that was hat thing that she was wearing during the Quidditch game. And the glasses she wore when she came for Harry on the train. Her fashion sense is so weird, I love it. She's such a cutie, ya know?

I think Ron was ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE when he was under the love potion. I swear, everyone in that theater got a good laugh out of that. And Harry, of course, on his luck, acted like he was high. It's kind of nice to see the more laid-back, funny side of Harry. I know Daniel Radcliffe's funny and all, but you don't really see that in Harry, and I think it was good that they put those witty comments in there.

And of course, Weasley Wizarding Wheezes was AWESOME! But one thing...did anyone else notice that James's and Oliver's hair was red in the store, but brown when their house was burning down (which I don't really remember at all...was that even in the book?)? Or was that just a trick of the light?

But overall, great movie. Great mix of humor, action, drama, and romance. I think that's what makes a good movie these days.

Hi everyone! Congrats to Kineka and meatball for moving up in the years! biggrin

I'm going to be on holiday from the 25th - 29th of July, so I had to say that the poll for the banner contest will close on the 30th, and not the 28th. There's only two more days to enter, so ENTER THE SUMMER BANNER CONTEST ASAP if you want a chance to win House points and 3k! cool
PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 2009 4:30 pm

Congratulations to you, Meatball! And thank you, Minerva!

Aww, you're leaving us? Have fun, though!

I honestly thought about the banner contest, but now I really don't have enough time. Banners take me forever...that's why I can't even make good ones for my graphic design classes at school I took last year.

*high-fives Kineka* Yay! We're getting older (and hopefully wiser!) One more year for you until you're elligible to be a prefect. Seeing how active you are, especially with welcoming the new folks, I think the badge would look good on you smile

Minerva- I wish you a safe trip!

My graphic arts skills are probably a 1.5 on a scale of 10. I usually use paint for minor edits (resizing something to create a thumbnail, etc). The only version of photoshop I've played with is a Limited version of 5 -_-. So sometimes I can blur or smudge things... but if something gets too complex with layers it forces me to save it as a weird photoshop file that's not a jpeg or gif or bitmap and I don't know what to do with it, so that has deterred me from doing more. Plus I consider myself a performing artist (singing, dancing, cheerleading-dancing, cheerleading-stunting, martial arts, acting, musicals) than a visual artist.

And yes, both my screen name and my hair relate to Sailor Moon. It _is_ my all-time favourite anime. "Meatballhead" is the dub nickname that's given to her because of her hairstyle, so I absolutely had to have one when it was released here. I'm such a fanatic that my one tattoo is even indirectly sailor moon based. It's the ofuda (anti-evil) scroll that Sailor Mars uses to paralyze or mess up evil spirits. "Aku Ryo Tai San" on a piece of parchment ^_^ I'm permanently warded against evil!
PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 2009 4:50 pm

Meatball: Aww, thank you! Haha yes, we're old and wise and...WE HAVE LONG SILVER BEARDS! Wait...nevermind, wrong person razz .

I took a graphic design class 1st semester of my freshman year in high school, then second semester I took a web design class with HTML codes and stuff. I know Photoshop pretty well, but next year I'm taking another computer class where we use CAD. I'm actually not really sure what that is, but I guess I'll figure that out once the year starts, huh?

I do other artistic stuff too, I sing and write sometimes. But I never sing alone, I'm far too shy. In choirs, I do. But people are always telling me in my adult choir that they're gonna push my diaphragm to make me sing louder because they can't hear me. I'm kinda scared now...haha.

I never knew your name had a reference to Sailor Moon...I only watched a few episodes when I was younger (because it was only on at 5:30 in the morning, and my mom and I shared a room because of limited space, and she wouldn't let me get up...) but I loved it. I wanted the dolls and everything...but I quickly grew out of it...now I don't really watch anime at all. But that's cool, you have permanent protection against evil! biggrin

Para: Haha sorry I didn't answer this before. I got the face paint from the Daily Chance.

Omg~! I'm actually really excited for the movie 2012. (Okay, not really excited, but interested.) It looks promising. Ohz, the irony--it comes out in 2010, harhar. I think I'm going to get a bunch of classmates to go with me and have everyone wear their class sweaters--we're the class of 2012. n.n

Whoops! Sorry, too excited to post and I didn't read it all.
I'm going to Santa Barbara for three weeks for music camp! (: Very excited, longest time I've ever been away from home without parents. (Bwhaha.)
There's internet there but I'm not sure how much time I'll have to use it? I'm still debating whether I should bring my laptop or not :l They have a library with computers (I'm staying at Westpoint College...pretty campus from the pictures, at least) but they also have WiFi? Hohum.
