Jaeshan blinked a few times, caught off-guard by the girl's sudden challenge. He forced a small grin though, and nodded. "Y-yeah, that sounds good," he said, a bit glad that she'd asked first. "I'm Jaeshan, and it's nice to meet you too," he added, being sure to include Myuko in his introductions. "You up for a little battle, Torchic?" he asked the young Pokemon, squatting down to look at her. The little chick hopped up and down excitedly, obviously quite eager to do just that. He didn't know how strong any of Gwen's Pokemon would be, but he wanted Torchic to gain that valuable experience, so he knew he'd have to pay careful attention to her status during the battle.

"We're ready," Jaeshan nodded, looking around the small clearing. "Torchic will be starting, but she's young, so go easy on her," he chuckled a bit as the little orange chick took her position in front of her trainer. She scratched the ground with her claws, looking quite ready to begin.

Young? Myuko thought as he looked at the torchic. It is a first-level pokemon. Maybe this guy will be a good friend to eventually battle. Myuko thought as he looked on the sidelines of the forest, waiting eagerly for the battle to start. "Pay attention Grimm. Soon we will have to battle too." Myuko said to Grimm who was hovering as if it was perched on his shoulders.

"She looks eager enough," Gwen commented, eying the young Torchic carefully. "It just so happens that Cinnamon isn't the most experienced of Pokemon either, so it would probably be a good idea to let them battle each other." The girl smiled, signaling for the Zigzagoon to come to her side. The little raccoon Pokemon did after a moment or so, its nose twitching intently. "I'll give you fair warning though, I'm by no means a rookie trainer." Her eyes held a determined look from behind her glasses, and the stance she took up was definitely not one from an inexperienced trainer.

"All right Cinnamon, are you ready?" The Zigzagoon gave a small bark in reply, shaking its bristly fur in anticipation. "Good! Let's start off with a Tackle attack, then!" Gwen commanded firmly.

Digging her claws into the ground to ready herself, Cinnamon let out a growl before she dashed forward (albeit in an awkward zigzag pattern), intent on ramming her body into the small, orange Torchic.

((Hey Inu... please make your posts more than a few lines long or else they won't be counted towards EXP... mmkay? ^^ ))
Jaeshan could already feel his nervousness starting to melt away as his mind frame shifted into battle-mode. He liked the look Gwen was giving him, and he returned her grin. "Well I'm no rookie either, so fair warning to you as well," he replied, rubbing his hands together. The few wisps of sunlight poking through the trees kept everything within the forest quite cool, and Jaeshan was actually starting to feel a bit chilled. Although on second thought, as he stole a quick glance at the Duskull hovering over Myuko's shoulder, he wondered if perhaps the Ghost-type's presence had anything to do with the temperature of the air around them.

On command, Cinnamon had started dashing towards Torchic, ready to attack. The little chick, however, was already having a difficult time following her erratic movements, her eyes wide with both confusion and fear. Not sure how Torchic could possibly avoid such an attack, he looked down at her, and nodded. "Hold your ground, then counter with a scratch attack," he told her firmly.

Torchic dug her talons into the earth, hoping to stabilize herself for the attack. The Tinyraccoon landed her Tackle, and Torchic found herself a bit staggered from the hit. She recovered fairly quickly though, and brought her foot up and around, trying to retaliate with her claws.

Cinnamon had been too happy that her attack had hit to realized that the Torchic actually posed a threat, so she was caught off guard by the well-placed Scratch attack that left painful marks in her right shoulder. The Zigzagoon let out a pained cry, hopping back a few feet and trying to look at the wound that Torchic had given her.

"Ooh, the little chick has claws," Gwen commented, impressed by the fire type's counter attack. "Let's make her a little less eager to attack you, Cinnamon! Give her a Growl, and make it a good one!" Had she been using one of her more experienced Pokemon, tactics like Growl and Tail Whip would rarely be considered. However, in low-level battling situations like these, sometimes they were just what was needed to level the playing field.

Getting over the fact that her shoulder was now stinging due to the moderately painful attack, the little raccoon hopped forward, puffing out her chest and bristling her fur to make herself look as big as possible. She narrowed her eyes and bared her teeth before uttering a low, menacing growl. Gwen felt goosebumps travel down her arms from the effects, and she hoped it would have the same impact on the cute Torchic.

Despite being a very brave little Pokemon by nature, Cinnamon's threatening growl made Torchic let out a frightened peep, and she scrambled back a little ways to put some distance between herself and the Zigzagoon. She never would have guessed her new friend was capable of making a noise like that, and she felt a bit of heat building up inside of her as a result of being startled.

Growl lowers... attack, Jaeshan thought, knowing that Torchic had access to Growl as well. It would mean that her scratches would be less effective now, but he really didn't want to have to rely on her Flamethrower in a situation like this. Being so young, she still didn't have full control of it yet, and the last thing he needed was to be the cause of a raging forest fire, with no Water-type Pokemon on his team to boot. "Focus Energy," he called out finally. Hopefully the little Pokemon could get riled up a bit, and more focused hits would help to balance out her loss in power.

Torchic seemed to have other ideas though, as she planted her feet firmly on the ground. If she couldn't really rely on her talons for attacking, she'd have to use something else. She opened her little beak as a small burst of flames lapped up in the back of her throat, and she expelled it forward, making for a good Ember attack. Seeing her new attack go off successfully, the little chick hopped up and down excitedly - after all, the smaller flames were easier to control. Jaeshan smiled at the sight - Torchic seemed to have no trouble keeping the weaker Fire-type attack controlled.

So since when does Focus Energy mean Ember? Gwen thought, a little confused. Cinnamon let out a frightened bark as the small flames singed her fur, and she batted at her face with her paws to try and get the heat away from her. Twice now she'd been caught off her guard by the Torchic, and she was starting to get a little angry.

Gwen scratched her chin thoughtfully, and looked down at her Pokemon. "Okay Cinnamon, time for a new strategy! Use Mud-Slap!" she called out. Tall-boy probably wasn't expecting Cinnamon to have come from an egg, she thought with a smirk. Most people think she was captured in the wild, not specially bred, just for me.

Cinnamon growled again and rushed forward, stopping a few feet from the Torchic. She turned around and began to dig into the soft ground, using her claws to fling the overturned soil at the chick in hopes of lowering her accuracy.

Little Guy could definitely feel the tension grow, but it eased his nervousness to know he would have a companion. Even though they could no longer see the Totodile, Little Guy could guess its general direction. As soon as he made up his mind, he leaped suddenly at Ulani, and as soon as their wings touched, he Teleported them both deep into the darkness.

As soon as the leap ended, Little Guy opened his wings, gliding with the momentum he had gathered. Not looking behind him, he hoped Ulani was fine. He had properly transported her, but it was easy to think that maybe he should have told her what he was doing before he sent her through the sickening ordeal of warping space and time.

Nevertheless, his Teleport's accuracy was superb. Not too far away, the Totodile sat, finally winded from his escape. After making the clever decision to cut through the thick underbrush, he had figured he was safe for the time being. He hadn't expected to be visited mere seconds from then, by the very bird who had attacked his injured eye so viciously.

Soon after he noticed them, the Totodile stood up, facing Little Guy and Ulani defensively, rather than fearfully. He looked to be shaking, but it was more anger than fear. He began to growl, baring his front teeth while his one eye glared straight at Little Guy. "Why are you following me?! I'm trying to escape!" he barked. Without much warning, he shot a remarkably powerful jet of water, nailing Little Guy mid-flight.

Having little time after the Teleport to rest, Little Guy was too tired to dodge. Instead, the Water Gun knocked him quite a few feet back, where he landed not-so-gracefully behind Ulani, soaking wet.

--

Meanwhile, Ky and Ray simply stood, glaring at each other, not saying a word. Thinking Ray might attack again was the only thing that made Ky speak up again.

"This is stupid," Ky said, looking no less angry than before. "'Kay, I admit it. I don't know anything. I'm sorry. 'Kay?" Ky was gritting his teeth, but his tone was very serious.

"Whatever," Ray responded, not caring the least what this kid had to say. He just stood there, fists clenched, wanting to pound on something or someone, namely Ky.

Seeing no progress in the situation, Ky could only look off to the side, wondering and worrying about M.A.'s chase. He could see a faint hint of a trail they had left, but was hesitant to follow it. Was it best that he stay here? What if they were too far out to hear him? Would they be able to find their way back? All of this began to worry him. "Why did I stay back, just for this brat?" he thought bitterly.

Jaeshan's eyes widened at the sight of the mud being flung up by the Zigzagoon - as far as he knew, Mud-Slap wasn't something that a Zigzagoon could learn ordinarily. Must be an egg move or something, he thought, but didn't let it bother him much more than that.

Torchic gasped as the muck thoroughly coated her chest and face, and she shook herself, trying to get the mess off of her. It stung in her eyes, and made it a bit difficult to breath, but after a moment or so she managed to clear her airways enough to be able to take in enough air once again. Her vision, however, wasn't fairing any better, as any attempts to open her eyes were met with more mud and filth sliding into them. "Calm down, Torchic!" Jaeshan called out to his Pokemon, knowing that panicking wasn't the best way to deal with the situation. She cried out fearfully, but didn't seem to hear her trainer's voice as the current problem of being unable to see was most prevalent in her mind. Hurriedly, she spat out a somewhat weak ember (in comparison to her first one) in the general direction she hoped Cinnamon had gone in.

Ulani had little time to react to Little Guy's sudden maneuver and, despite knowing he was an ally, assumed he was temporarily insane or something of that sort and braced for impact. What she got, however, was a totally different sensation. First, rather than the tackle she thought was coming, she simply felt his wing tap hers -- and then a whole world of confusion and twisting and delusions seemed to attack, tugging her in all directions but at the same time oppressively pressing, pushing into her as well. Nothing seemed to stand still, every motion seemed to contradict another, and although she could vaguely sense that Little Guy was somewhere near that did little to soothe her.

When they finished up Teleporting what felt like hours later, if Swablus ever could be green, Ulani sure was. She didn't have enough time to recover here either, for it seemed Little Guy had hit it home -- there the Totodile was! Still disoriented from her first time teleporting, she only dazedly watched as the Totodile stood up and blasted Little Guy clear across the little opening. Oh wait, that wasn't good. Right, right, her mind was clearing now. No, that wasn't good at all. Finally out of her stupor, the little blue bird swooped down by Little Guy's side, standing next to him defensively. Poor thing. . . it was chilly enough as is, and being soaked and exhausted probably didn't help.

"You alright there buddy. . . ? And heyheyhey you, Mr. Shoot-First-Ask-Later! We're just trying to help here this time! There's dangerous things in this forest and. . ." Ulani stopped for a moment, thinking over her last words. Would the Totodile really listen to that? . . . Not likely, no, she knew she wouldn't if she was in his position. And she could see that now, for whatever reason, he didn't want to go back at all, at all; that much she could see from the defiance in his eyes and his stance.

"Why do you wanna escape so bad? Your trainer's probably real worried. . ." The bird hadn't exactly seen the whole Totodile fiasco during the battle, so she was just going off her own experiences -- if she disappeared, for instance, she knew M.A. would fret like no other. Maybe even have an anxiety attack or something.

The last thing Cinnamon had expected was for the Torchic to send out another ember, and the Zigzagoon let out a frightened little squeak as she tried to hide herself in the 'hole' she'd made to fling the mud around. The weak embers still managed to cascade themselves down onto her head, and the little raccoon shrieked fearfully, dashing about in her usual zigzag patterns as she tried to escape the burning sensation.

Gwen scratched the back of her head as she watched the antics of the two young Pokemon; Cinnamon shrieking and running about aimlessly, and the poor Torchic wailing from the mud stinging her eyes. It definitely held the look of a less-than-professional battle.

"Get it together, Cinn!" Gwen called out. "You're fine! Attack with Headbutt!" she ordered, raising a hand. The Zigzagoon's cries finally stopped, and she glanced backwards at her trainer before nodding. She pawed at the ground a bit before she started to dash forward, her path less zigzagged than before. As she neared the Torchic, she lowered her head, preparing for impact.

The Duskull seemed to be amuzed as it chuckled slightly, zooming in Zig-zag patterns in the air, immitating the young racoon pokemon, slowly fading in and out of view.

Wow, Myuko thought as he watched the young pokemon go at it with such ferocity. I wonder how good Grimm is with battling, other than using that scarlet eye of his. Good thing I am watching this battle. I can get a few pointers off of this.

He looked at his own pokemon with determination. No matter what they say, a ghost-pokemon CAN be good to a trainer. he thought as he focused back on the battle on-hand.

The young racoon pokemon began to lower its head as it started to head for the small bird. I wonder if Ember will save you this time....

"Torchic..." Jaeshan mumbled, watching helplessly as the brown Pokemon slammed her head into the little orange chick. Torchic was knocked over backwards, rolling over a few times before coming to a stop some 5 feet from where she'd been standing initially. Instantly Jaeshan was by her side, using a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the muck from her soft feathers. She looked up at him gratefully, and chirped softly before closing her eyes, looking fairly content with the battle's outcome. If only we could have used Flamethrower, Jaeshan thought, stroking the Pokemon's head lightly before he recalled Torchic into her Pokeball, and stood up. "Good job, you guys," he said, nodding his head respectively. "You're pretty tough, Cinnamon. Nice work."

He made his way back to his position on the battlefield, stopping to watch the crimson-eyed Duskull for a moment before he turned back to Gwen. "You said three on three, right? Well, here's number two!" Torchic's defeat wasn't enough to dampen his spirits, and he let the red and white Pokeball fly from his hand. In a small flash of light, the little Bagon appeared before him, snapping her powerful jaws together. The dragon let out a fierce growl, signaling that she was ready to begin.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2007 10:31 am

Gwen flinched a bit when Torchic went down, but she knew it was part of battling. Not only that, but Jaeshan seemed to really care for his Pokemon, cleaning her off before giving her the chance to have a good rest. Cinnamon didn't seem overly happy that she'd caused her new friend harm either; after her attack she'd trotted back to Gwen's side to see what would happen next.

"Thanks, Tallboy," Gwen grinned, bending down to pat the Zigzagoon's head to applaud her efforts. "Your little Torchic will be something when she gets older," she added. The attacks that the little chick had landed had been pretty decent hits, as noted by the way Cinnamon was looking winded from the short fight.

The next Pokemon sent out caught Gwen by surprise - she'd never seen anything like it before. It was a small, bluish Pokemon with a steely ridge atop its head, and short, stubby arms. The girl looked down at her Pokemon questioningly. "You up to it?" she asked. The raccoon nodded, turning towards her new opponent. "Good then. Let's go with another Headbutt!"

Cinnamon's previous actions were repeated; and the small Pokemon lowered her head in anticipation of striking her foe.

The Totodile eyed Ulani with a bit of cautiousness, though this bird didn't seem very threatening. If anything, that Water Gun was more of a revenge attack towards the Natu. Attacking this bird would only get him into trouble once Little Guy recovered anyway.

The Totodile snarled with a defeated look on his face. "My trainer's never worried about me. Only angry..." he explained. "If you guys want to help, just let me go. I'm not as weak as he says I am." After saying this, the small crocodile looked down with clenched fists. "Stupid trainer..." he muttered.

By this time, Little Guy had gotten back to his feet and was shaking his feathers dry as he listened. This Pokemon's past was obviously key towards how he was acting now, though it was very hard to understand what may have happened to cause all this. If this Pokemon truly wanted to leave, was it wrong to stop him, or was this Totodile simply acting immaturely? Such thoughts would only frustrate Little Guy until he knew the truth, and there was only one way he could gather it past interrogation.

"I'm very sorry my one-eyed friend,
but your words are too unclear.
Such troubles can only truly mend,
if your pain reaches my ear.

"There are two ways we can do this,
Two ways and nothing more,
Either you explain your crisis,
Or Ulani makes you snore."

Little Guy's words almost sang in a soothing way, rhyming in Natu-speak as well as it would in English. He hoped that Ulani understood the terms that were laid out and that she was ready in case things turned for the worse.

The Totodile simply shrugged. "Weirdo. Can't you talk normal? Well, whatever. I'll just tell you this. I don't want to go back, and you won't make me. If you really want to help me though, then you guys follow me until I find the old couple's house. That's where I'm heading," he explained. And with that, he turned his back to the two birds and began to walk at a casual but quick pace, towards his destination.
