I'm a clarinetist 2! I'm a freshman in the Wagner High School Marching Band. I've been playing for like almost 4 years now. I'm the best freshman there! (no need to brag xp )but for some reason my band director is very picky about reeds. he only likes the vandoren kind. one time, this girl had a rico brand reed and he took it off her clarinet and snapped it in half!

Ya my Band Director would flip if any of the clarinets have a rico reed. Some would try tattle taleing and be like ohhh you have a rico and i'm like no its mitchell lurie/vandorn it's just in a rico case. xp And one thing that confused me was i needed a reed so I ask to by one from our bd and she gave me a rico royal and i'm like i thought we weren't aloud to have rico and shes like this is diffrent from the regular rico. I'm like what? confused

I hate it when they yell at you for reeds. My teacher's even picky about sizes. I know they matter for sound, but he'll yell at you if it's a half up, even if that's all you have.

xX-kAiYa-ChAn-Xx SerenaRose2 pezhi SerenaRose2 It doesn't helpif you have an older instument either.............. mines like 20-25 years old and I can't reach the higher notes........ sweatdrop sweatdrop i play on a 36 year old clarinet, age has nothing to do with it. stop trying to blame your instrument, it only does what you make it do(if you're a bad clarinet player, your clarinet will sound bad. if you're a good clarinet player, it will sound good) it annoys the heck out of me when people complain about their instruments...saying that they can't play a certain thing because of their instrument e.e OK well it's not me cuz my directer can't play it either and I've had it fix twice!! and the poor thing was greatly abused by my cousin so ha! im probably younger than all of you and my instrument was my moms then a 3 of my sisters before being mine and my moms like 50-60 yrs old and i can get my high notes out fine... Mine's had a really hard life............. It's so destoyed I feel bad for it.................

ClarinetGoddess Pezhi: Occasionally, it is the instrument. Not the age of the instrument really, but the instrument could break. My instrument occasionally messes up on me, especially when there is a screw loose somewhere or something isn't on right. My comment to the age thing is that my mom's 60 year old clarinet could get high notes quite easily for the condition it was in.(Until it stopped working completely. Wish I could afford the 2000 bucks to get it fixed...) first, i must point out that i was trying to make that point exactly. i didn't mean that a good player could make a broken clarinet play beautifully. i was saying that a good player wouldn't let their clarinet get broken in the first place, and even if it did happen to break by mistake it would only be a minor break and they would be able to play at least decently or fix it themselves. second...if it costs two-thousand dollars to get it repaired, then i would never let you touch even my plastic student clarinets. That's just not right, breaking an instrument that badly. also, if by fix they mean give you a new clarinet...then yeah, it should cost about 2000 dollars, for a good one that is (which, like i pointed out, i wouldn't let you touch if it were my personal clarinet).

well, the least you could do is respect the clarinet and learn how to spell "clarinet" before you try to graduate to a respectable clarinet.(i say this, not disapproving of illiteracy among those who have no opportunity to become literate, but to disapprove of those who have all education required to at least be partway literate.)

I'm sorry......... sweatdrop I really try to spell right but I'm not very good.......... I'm not really illiterate, I am a very good reader and I really enjoy writing, I just have to have a dictionary with me at all times...........
It's fine if you comment of my spelling, Pezhi, I'm used to it.......
I just really need to retire Zoey, she deserves a peaceful retirement, she has played well and I enjoyed having her as my partner.

I've been playing clarinet for six years and just became a section leader in my marching band. I love playing so much, but I have come to believe that I might be a serial killer of reeds. I destroy about five a week. sweatdrop
