I'd answer that question, but I'm a retard and probably get the entire purpose skewed. And since I haven't really seen the anime, I'd also probably get that wrong.
My knowledge so far is "There's this holy grail, it grants wishes, sorcerers summon up dead legends to beat up other sorcerers/dead legends to win and get a wish from said holy grail".

Silver Alexander Much like Shingetsutan Tsukihime. I didn't enjoy that series until the final two episodes. Which doesn't say much, since I didn't even understand that series until about the third go-around.
