I once flashed my bios wrong bricking my motherboard.
Well, bricking is a term used for something that's box-shaped... so I'd consider that 'plating'.
The other day I was working on a computer in which several capacitors on the motherboard had exploded... without the owner's knowledge. The thing still booted, all the way into windows, but after a while it would just... quit. I'm surprised it even worked that well.
