DELIVERED.
The Chain of Cause and Effect
The sound of gunfire rang out into the streets on the fateful day of June 28th, 1914. The Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand had been assassinated by the Black Hand. The series of events that would ensue would start and end The War to End all Wars; World War I.
A political extremist group known as the Black Hand assassinated the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary due to political differences. This caused tension between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, given the origin of the Black Hand, which was in fact, Serbia. Germany saw this as an opportunity to spark a war and crush Serbia, which had been a goal two years prior. Germany pushed Austria-Hungary to declare war; however, Austria-Hungary would not go to war without German support, as per, a war with Serbia would also cause a war with Russian, given previous treaties set in place.
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia on July 28th, 1914, after Serbia denied two of the ten purposely unacceptable demands of Austria-Hungary via the July Ultimatum. Russia, unwilling to give up its influence in the Balkans, set up partial troops the following day. This caused Germany to mobilize its troops as well, declaring war on Russia the same day. Seeing this as also an opportunity to take out France, Germany then declares war on France.
In order to obtain a swift victory over France, Germany invades Belgium and cuts through to gain quick access to France. This violates a treaty with Great Britain, which is then forced to declare war on Germany and Austria-Hungary. Canada is then forced to follow suit, as caused by a similar treaty.
In February, 1915, Germany declares a U-Boat naval blockade on Great Britain, any ship approaching Great Britain is considered a legitimate target. Later in the war, this will be the cause for the United State’s inclusion into the war.
In May of 1915, Italy betrayed the Central powers, and declared war on Austria-Hungary, thus causing Germany to declare war on Italy in retaliation.
After many complaints of the U.S., Germany agrees to stop sinking ships without warning, as many U.S. citizens died aboard the vessels. A year later, Germany renounces their submarine policy. Meanwhile, Romania joins the war on the Allied side, mostly to benefit from spoils of war.
In early 1916, the sinking of the Lusitania, due to the unrestricted submarine warfare by the Germans, and the finding of the Zimmerman Telegram cause America to declare war on Germany.
In late 1916, the Bolsheviks overthrow the then-current government in Russia, as a result of the Russian Revolution. With Russia now in a state of political instability, they withdraw from the war completely.
After a long string of war declarations by the U.S. upon Austria-Hungary, and Serbia, along with economic, political, and militaristic issues cause the overall fall of the Central Powers, and ultimately end World War I.
