horseofdeath tau do hae one truly powerful weapon, the heavy railgun. only found on the ax-1-0 and manta. i killed 4 warhound titans in 1 game with them. unfortunatly, i lost my tiger shark to a lucky lasgun shot. Heavy Railgun's okay. Not great, but okay. It's still ordnance, so it has an effective BS of 2, and it's only really necessary vs. superheavies.. And..how did you lose your Tigershark to a lasgun? It's literally impossible. Do you mean a lascannon?

YAY 200 pages! So, I have $100 at my disposal, $25 goes to Tau color paint, what should the rest go to? So far I have 2 Crisis suits, 1 sniper team, 2 Firewarrior teams, and a Crisis Commander. What do I need?

Although a lot of people do not seem to like Kroot.

Maybe a Devilfish, probably not a Hammerhead, definitely no Kroot, and perhaps some stealths.

Well, The meat of the Tau army generally lies in it's Elite and Heavy choices, and you haven't got a lot of either right now. Devilfish would be okay, but I think you need a little more anti-tank. Plus, building a tank is an easy way to add 150-200 points to your army.

Oh, but from what I hear, the Skyray has the parts for all three Tau tanks, so it's advisable just to get that and leave your options open.

Kroot take up points, space, and time that could be better used for blowing people away instead of poking at them with sharp sticks. A Broadside is more reasonable for me, if I bought one then I'd load it up and make it a beast. Although a Hammerhead's versatility is nice, the ordnance shot wouldn't do all too well against my common enemy the Space Marines. I do like those back up burst cannons, but they wouldn't cut it against heavier armored foes like the Space Marines. If I get a Broadside with twin plasma rifles then my chances of killing those enemies increase. And I'm not so sure about Stealths either, since they pack weak weapons and they don't have much purpose unless they have markerlights, I'm already currently using Sniper Drones for that purpose.

Damn, you sound like me back when i just got into the game with eldar. Seriosuly, you cant base everything around the space marines. Not too mention that enough weak shots and the marines will fail those saves. Anyways, you stick to this mentally and youre going to have a very easily run down army.

King Kento Not too mention that enough weak shots and the marines will fail those saves. Exactly. It seems to me like not many people have ever tried play Guard, and realized that their weapons do absolutely nothing. However, they have hundreds of those weapons, and rapid fire. Remember folks, quantity has a quality of its own.

Kroot are actually a fantastic choice. All they have to worry about are flamers and Hellhounds. I really wouldn't suggest a Broadside for you at this point. I think Broadsides are a great heavy choice, but one, they're more useful when fielded in squads of two or three. Two, they are a static element. Your army has only Crisis suits as mobile objective takers. Three, a single Broadside is going to run you $35. A Hammerhead or Skyray is only $5 more. Four, There's more than just the Railgun for a Hammerhead. You can always field the Ion Cannon instead for a cheap and effective anti-MEQ/anti-skimmer gun. Five, the secondary weapons are useful for more than just plinking Marine armor. They're all S5 and multishot; use them to take potshots at Landspeeders, Rhinos, Warwalkers, Sentinels and all manner of AV 10 and 11 vehicles. Stealths function by weight of fire. Only a full team of Fire Warriors in double-tap range put out more shots than a full Stealth team. Combine with a Markerlight or two and you'll see enough wounds for not only some failed saves, but often enough to qualify for a Torrent of Fire. And again, Burst cannon are hardly weak. They're S5, which is enough to start putting the hurt on light vehicles. Also, remember there are times when weight of fire is more useful than AP; if those bikers turboboost into your lines, their save becomes invulnerable, and all of a sudden, more shots are more useful than a couple low AP shots. Plus, AP is easily negated by cover.
