what do you mean by demonically high octave? like..everything past High C(above the staff)? if so you need to have a really well formed embouchure. you need to have great breath support. and you NEED to be pushing from your diaphragm. also you need to open your throat up and your mouth needs to be far enough on the reed, otherwise you will just close the reed off and nothing will come out. but really you should be doing all of this anyway..so if you're supposedly "good" clarinet players i don't see why you should be having troubles

The highest I ever had to play was the f above the staff and it was hard yet the more i practiced what i needed to do (like pezhi suggested) the better/ easier the note came out.

most likely because you're not giving your reed enough room to vibrate >_> bad embouchure sucks

i play on a 36 year old clarinet, age has nothing to do with it. stop trying to blame your instrument, it only does what you make it do(if you're a bad clarinet player, your clarinet will sound bad. if you're a good clarinet player, it will sound good) it annoys the heck out of me when people complain about their instruments...saying that they can't play a certain thing because of their instrument e.e

Pezhi: Occasionally, it is the instrument. Not the age of the instrument really, but the instrument could break. My instrument occasionally messes up on me, especially when there is a screw loose somewhere or something isn't on right.
My comment to the age thing is that my mom's 60 year old clarinet could get high notes quite easily for the condition it was in.(Until it stopped working completely. Wish I could afford the 2000 bucks to get it fixed...)
