"No, not at all," he said. "Follow me."

He led them to another anti-chamber that was full of bunks, some of them filled with people most of whom smelled like alcohol. He showed him to the very end of the room.

"Set him on the bottom bunk," he told Chris and Cheoro, who were again carrying Rio, and guestured to the furthest back and lowest hammock. It was like being in a ship without the swaying.

They set him in the hammock before climbing into the two directly above his. Ngurt geustured to one across the narrow hall-like room.

"You may sleep here," he said.

Kara nodded, and, murmuring her thanks, settled into the bunk Ngurt indicated.

She laid in the cot for a while, lost in thought before finally falling into a light, dreamless sleep.

Mon-Ama swung her pack over her should and drew out a blanket and laid down on the roof for a cold night.

((Nobody is comfortable, eh?))

Rio was the first to wake the next morning. He quickly realised what must have happened. He swung out of his hammock and walked down the hall and back into the church, trying not to choke on the smell of alcohol. He was soundless and, apart from a few stiff pains, back in full health. Morries recover quick, as his father had always told him.

He walked outside and felt the morning breeze across his face. It was still dark. There was little wildlife for him to look at in the morning so he began walking. Anything natural.

Kara slept rather well, all things considered, and woke with a start early in the morning as Chris, or perhaps Cheoro, spoke loudly in their sleep. The sun had yet to rise, and Kara considered just going back to sleep, as impossible as that seemed. She gave a sigh and then jumped up, completely awake as she looked over to see Rio's cot empty. She sat on the edge of the bed, looking around, but she didn't see him anywhere. Checking that her other two companions were soundly asleep, she slipped out of bed, strapping on her gun to her hip and one knife to a forearm, she walked out into the church, leaving her longcoat and one knife lying on the bed.

The church was dark and empty this early in the morning, and Kara's soft footfalls echoed loudly in the hallway and rooms beyond. She stopped in the altar room and looked around a moment, before heading to the door. She opened it, and a crisp breeze blew her hair across her face. She shivered slightly in the sudden chill, and sat down on the church steps, wrapping her arms around her.

She had no idea where Rio was, but she didn't think anyone would look for them in a church, which meant that he left of his own accord. And if he made it to the front door without bleeding or falling, then she figured he'd be alright. He could handle himself, after all. She took a deep breath of the morning air, a nice change from the stale alcohol smell from inside where Chris and Cheoro were still sleeping. She closed her eyes, enjoying the sharp feel of the wind through her thin shirt. Another shiver ran down her arms and she smiled, letting her mind wander a bit, leaving her ears attentative for the sound of footfalls.

Rio was a few blocks away from the church when a scre vehical without head lights on nearly ran him over. He leapt back lightly and landed as eaily as before. Yes he was back to full health, but uncannily so. He sighed as he realised the only wounds worth worrying about were the bullet wounds in his shoulder and a broken nose. The rest would fade within a few months.

"You are lucky," said a wheezing voice right next to him.

Rio leapt literally a foot in the air backwards and landed in a marital arts stance - but it was just short, bent old man. He seemed quite alarmed at Rio's alarmity and covered his head with his arms.

"Help! Help! This man is attacking me!"

"No, no, sir, please," said Rio hastily droping his stance. "Shush, I was only being careful - "

"Attacking poor, broken down men is being careful?" the old man shrieked in his face. "Anyone who would do such a thing is a cruel man - wouldn't you agree?"

"I - you - What?" stammered Rio, confused. The old man as said the last few words casually, as if they were only discussing the possiblity with one another. He quickly improvised. "Oh, yes I quite agree."

"Then don't do it," snarled the old man, again shrieking.

The old man began walking away, but before he had gone more than a few paces he said, "Oh, and they left your knife under the shop."

"Wha - " began Ro but was suddenly blinded by the Huron sun breaking the building tops and shining right in his eyes. By the time he had recovered, the old man was gone.

"Who the bloody hell was that?"

Chris woke as the day's first ray penetrated the chruch's resting room. He fell out out his hammock, but got back to his feet quickly. He saw that Kara's and Rio's hammocks were empty and figure that she must have help him out of bed. He poked Cheoro awake and they walked outside. They found Kara on the front step, but RIo was no where in sight.

((Not well written, but I'm not worrying about that right now.))

The sunrise was beautiful from the front steps of the church. The sky lightened first, then suddenly exploded in a plethora of warm colors.

Kara jumped, her hand reaching for a knife when she heard footsteps behind her. She whirled around, and relaxed as she saw Chris and Cheoro walk out of the church, looking around. With a sigh, she looked back out at the city.

"Rio went for a walk, apparently." She said. "He was gone when I woke up." She looked at the pair of them over her shoulder. "You slept well, I trust?" She gave a smirk.

Chris opened his mouth to retort, but noticed a figure jogging weirdly towards the church.

"Rio is back," he said simply.

Rio ran up the steps to where they were gathered and, without preamble, asked, "Where is the shop that we hid in from here?"

"Good morning." Kara said, ignoring his question. "How you feeling this morning?" At his look, she gave a sigh and pointed the general direction of the bookstore. "It's over that way. But if you're feeling suicidal, you can borrow my gun...it'd be less painful, I think." She said, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she gave him a sweet smile.

"Well, you have a - " Wait what the hell am I saying? Rio thought, butchering his speech " - point, but I'm not going to barge into the store or anything like that," he improvised. "I can be - somewhat - subtle."

Now only if I had some to tell me how, Rio thought, slightly depressed. He liked his new companions, some more than others, but they still weren't the same as the batch of weirdos he was with before.

"Okay," he said, recovering from his near downfall. "I'm going to need a scout. Cheoro I think you would be the least conspiuous; he is a merchant. Also they can't understand a word he'll say do they won't bother him. Hopefully they won't reconise him - "

"Don't count on that," broke in another voice. Mon-Ama was now hiking u the steps, looking sleepy. "They got to the Septra. That bounty-hunter mentioned me to one of those men - Gahn was one of their names. They reconised it. I think they are after all of us."

"Ghan?" muttered Chris. "What about him?"

But everybody ignored him. "But why would they be after us?" asked Rio, frowning. "You and I have made enough enemies, but it doesn't make sense to group us all together." He cast a weary eye over the group. "It doesn't make sense that we did."

Kara frowned. "I agree. That doesn't make sense. I can see why they would be after you two," she nodded to Rio and Mon-Ama, "and Chris makes sense as well...but why would they be interested in Cheoro and me? We're not connected to anything, really." She gave a sigh and paused a moment. Her next words came out slowly, like she was thinking it through as she was speaking. "Unless there's something that you know they're afraid you've told us...or something of that nature." She looked at Mon-Ama and Rio questioningly.

Rio looked to the heavens in thought. For some reason he looked rather comical. Chris chuckled slightly, but stifled it.

"Nope, not that I can think of," said Rio finally and Mon-Ama shook her head.
