Looks like I may be getting the book at a local Kinokuniya bookstore at England's 12 midnight (which is 8am here). Wish me luck!!
Edit: Changed the title of the thread to reflect the coming discussion. Cheers.

Whitespace!I thought he was upset because Tonks was preggers and he wasn't quite sure about the state of any children he should have. I mean... let's face it: she's a mutie and he's a werewolf. What would their kids turn out like? gonk

Finished the book. 4laugh
All in all, I do have to say that I enjoyed it. It did a really good job wrapping up most of the hanging plot points that had been left through the other books. Awfully high body count, though. I'll withhold further discussion until others have finished though.

I'm going to agree with Zely (now that I'm done). Some deaths seemed completely pointless. I'm a little disappointed with*spoiler!*Voldie's death. I almost overshot it complete.
I'm still quite angry with *spoiler!*Hedwig's death. WTF?! You can't just off a man's owl! scream

Skizzors I haaaate Tonks. evil Not just out of fangirl haet for her hooking up with Lupin, either. (Mostly that, though.) I'm probably gonna hang around at mine a few hours, drag a friend along. 3nodding I never really liked Tonks either. I don't hate her, but she just kind of irritated me, especially in her earlier appearances.
And not out of fangirliness, either. We all know I only love Snape. ... crying
Also, I took that test thingie. No big surprise for me, I guess.
You scored as a Hermione Granger You are Hermione. You are academic, intelligent, and reasonable. On top of this, you are highly concerned with justice, scorn the small-minded prejudices of others and work hard to defend the under dog. Many times you may find that your heart and mind are constantly at war with each other. Hermione Granger 78%
Neville Longbottom 75%
Severus Snape 75%
Draco Malfoy 72%

Yeah, so I finished the book just a bit ago. I wanted to finish sooner, but I was so dead-exhaused during my trip, I spent the last three days trying not to faint at various points. I still stayed up to get the book at midnight and read the first 4 chapters, then read through about half the rest of the book during the plane trip before I couldn't keep my eyes focused. Didn't have time to finish it until I got back home this morning, though.
I still dunno what I think on points. Wrapped up, yes. Further discussion in spoilery-white.
Nabs, I am so with you. I hate to say it, but Hedwig's death probably had more effect on me than almost any other death in the books. It was a great huge WTF-laden slap in the face. Hedwig. T-T She so did not deserve to go out like that.
Although I was really upset when I almost thought she killed off Hagrid. Twice.
Dobby's death was sad, too. Wormtail...deserved better, I thought. Such a throwaway death. And Snape. ... Yeah. Snape's death sucked. I'm sorry, that was just lame. And Voldie, too. The build-up to the duel was great, good anticipation with them circling and all...andthenit'soverkthxbye. Blah.
I did like the look into Snape's memories (love of Lily = no surprise, there) and the fact that Harry finally recognized Snape -- not just as a good guy, but a ******** good good guy. The bit with his son Albus Severus at the end gave me warm fuzzies. I also really liked getting to visit with Dumblydore in Harry's King's Cross vision.
I didn't even cry at Snape's death, though. =? It was just too...sudden. And felt so pointless. I mean, I was and still am sad. But I didn't even cry. I misted up for freaking Dobby, but not Snape? Blah. Maybe I was just too tired by the point I was reading that, I couldn't work up the emotional response. I dunno. I do feel like I'm about to pass out, so I think I'm done. More thoughts later.

Why not off that idiot Percy? Or maybe Charlie? We don't hear about him much. But Fred?! *sigh*
And yeah... I teared up a little at Dobby's death. I knew he would die, but still... at least it had a use.
Poor Teddy. cry Also found Tonks/Lupin death pretty damn useless. Stupid Tonks. Stay home and raise yer kid, moron! Poor Tonks-mommy, too. She's too old for this. gonk

Poor Teddy. cry Also found Tonks/Lupin death pretty damn useless. Stupid Tonks. Stay home and raise yer kid, moron! Poor Tonks-mommy, too. She's too old for this. gonk Les Reply.Oh, man. Yeah, I meant to mention the Fred thing. It really did feel like, "Well, I need a Weasley. What's this? Twins? There's a spare! Perfect! *scribbles furiously*" I guess she wanted to have one last big emotional impact for Harry before he marches off to death, though I honestly think she could've done without it. The previous deaths and the general chaos were enough to lay on the kid's head, not to mention the whole suicide mission thing. He had enough on his plate, adding some close-friend-deaths was just...well...overkill, if you'll pardon the pun.
All the same, if it was an emotional burden for Harry she wanted, it wouldn't have made as much sense to pick a Weasley to whom Harry wasn't very close. Obviously she wasn't about to pick Ron or Ginny, as they have future-babies to make; Bill just got married to a hot chick, so that's a Get Out of Death Free card; Charlie and Percy probably weren't close enough to "matter" as much; the parents...well, there's just no messing with Molly or Arthur. She knew I'd have to march over there and give her a stern talking-to if she tried touching them. So it "had to" be a twin. I guess. It was a pretty ignominious death, but that could also be the point - not everybody gets to go down in a blaze of glory, death is sudden and ugly, death isn't fair, etc. Drive that one into the reader, in case Sirius didn't do the job.
I did kind of think, "Why not Percy?" when I read it, though. I'm not disappointed per se- I don't think I've made it a secret that I never cared for the twins, whereas I always did like Percy when he was a comical git, back at school. I was pleased to see him come back to the good guys here; I've been hoping/expecting he would eventually. But maybe Jo figured there were too many, "shows his true colours and does something good, then gets killed" deaths already? neutral
Still, if Fred's death was bad, Lupin and Tonks... If one death was overkill, then these guys... I just can't help feeling that she wanted to make a full set, as it were, with Lupin. Putting the Parent Generation to rest at last. Still...fail. And Tonks dumping her baby off on her mum and showing up to get herself offed...that was just dumb on her part. Lupin's justification for fighting was all well and good, but it was still lame. After all we've been though, Lupin at least deserved a death scene. Not just...a corpse scene.
On another note. Molly. Oh, s**t. I mean, I kind of liked Bella in her sadistic, evil nutter way... But when Molly showed up to smack a b***h... I cackled. You go, Molly.
And yay for Kingsley-Minister. I hope he got to stay on permanently. He seemed like he would've been a pretty good suspect for "emotional impact death/add to the bodycount," but I'm glad he escaped that unpleasant fate.
Oh, and because I haven't mentioned it in this post, I love Snape. For reals.

My take on the ending Okay, so actually, I didn't think that there were many deaths. The main three remained unscathed. I thought it was interesting how Harry had to die, but he got to remain alive. As for Tonks and Remus, well, Tonks shouldn't have left the baby, but I thought it was almost fitting that the rest of James' gang died. Also, I saw the death of Tonks and Lupin as mirroring Harry's life, and he got to take care of someone in his situation. Wormtail should've had a better death. I didn't understand how him choking himself was repaying Harry. The more I think about it, the more I dislike Fred's death. On the other hand, I would find it hard to believe, with all the Weasley's there, that they'd all come out alive.
As for the final chapter, I was disappointed to see no mention of Luna! I would have thought she and Neville got together, but maybe it would have felt too strange if everyone ended up hitched to someone.
And serious love for Snape. heart

Thoughtses and spoilerz galore:
I cried when the wand died. crying Then it came back, woot! whee
Anywho, I'm pretty satisfied with the way things turned out. I do agree with everyone else on the point that Hedwig's death was a little tacked on. It almost felt to me like she had to get rid of Hedwig to make the conclusion of the chase scene work. I think Lupin's death made perfect sense, the Marauders all died in the fight against Voldemort. Agreed though on the point of Lupin deserving a death scene, he was just too awesome to not be granted that. The Twins gave me quite a few lulz during this book, especially the "I knew Ginny was lying about the tattoo" part. I laughed a lot at that. Finally, Snape... Oh, Snape. I was so afraid that all of the speculation about him and Dumbledore having a plan would turn out false. I really did not want him to go out as the badguy, but I knew as soon as he gave Harry his memories that all would be well.
This may actually be the only book of the series that I have a strong desire to see the film adaptation of. heart
