Episode 19: I spy, with my little eye/ Healing Hands

Morning dew filled the air. In the middle of a huge grass landscape, there was an immense tree. The tree seemed to be misplaced in its surroundings, but it stood there, firm and tall, like he had been there for years!
However... the tree was less than 24 hours old!
Underneath the tree, a small pack had hid from a thunderstorm. The brown skinned reader and writer Mayonaka slept with the same elegance that surrounded her when she walked. Next to her, not being elegant at all, lay the Elf Sushi, a tanner, who recently revealed she was practising witchcraft. Loud snores escaped from her mouth.
Beside that lay Matsuru, with Naraku hanging all over him. On the other side Blade slept against Naraku, whose hand he was holding.
A bird flew over, and landed in the tree. It hopped from one branch to another, checking this cool new place out. The people underneath the tree he ignored, but this tree certainly had possibility! Within its tiny little head, the bird already imagined himself with a nice female bird. But how would he lure his sweet love? Yes, indeed, by singing a sweet tune!
The bird searched for a nice spot and prepared himself for a song. He opened its beak and released the most powerful and loud song anyone had ever heard!
Frightened by this sudden 'sweet lullaby', everyone underneath the tree just jumped up, except for Sushi. When Blade noticed the bird, he took a rock and threw it at the demon creature. "Little pesky rat!" He hissed. The rock almost hit the bird, which flew up and decided to move up a bit.
Mayonaka sighed deeply when she saw Sushi still snoring at the ground. "Enough to raise the death..." She mumbled.
Naraku kneeled at Sushi and observed the snoring Elf. Slowly the snoring died down and Sushi 'mmm-ed' a bit. She rolled over, but then rolled back and opened her eyes.
Like the bird hadn't done enough damage to the ears of the others, Sushi screamed and jumped up. "Naraku!" She yelled when she finally saw who had been above her. "Don't EVER do that again!"
"Well, since Sleeping Beauty is awake now too, let's discuss what our plans are." Mayonaka decided.
Sushi yawned and scratched herself. "What...?" She yawned. "I just woke up!"
Matsuru grinned when he saw Mayonaka and Sushi getting into a fight again. How it was possible these 2 were friends was a big mystery to him. Thinking about what today would bring, his eyes got drawn to the silent Naraku.
Last night she had ordered them to stay underneath the tree. As if she knew that leaving would be more dangerous! The determination he saw in her eyes....
But now he looked into her eyes once again... Nothing from that same determination was left in her eyes. All that was left, was the same innocent glaze she had always had for the past 4 weeks.
"Go now?" She asked while tipping her head.
Matsuru looked at her. Once again she asked him to decide. Why did she disagree with him last night? Where did she base her decision on? "What do you think?" He asked.
Naraku looked uncertain. "We go now?" She asked again.
Matsuru nodded, noticing there was nothing left from last night. "Yes, we will go now." He decided.

The started their journey early in the morning. All were walking again, deciding it was best to give the horses some rest. They shouldn't use them when there was no need for it. Amordus hadn't been seen in days and a big weight had fallen from their shoulders.
But the journey was boring; utterly boring! Nothing happened and all had no clue what to talk about! Silence just filled the hours, making them feel longer than anything else.
Then Sushi decided to break the silence. "I spy... with my little eye..." She started. "And the colour is green..."
All stopped walking and stared at her. EVERYTHING that could be seen for miles was green!! They were completely surrounded by grass, grass, and not to forget: grass!
"Never mind...."

The grass area slowly got a few hills, but still grass was the only thing that could be seen. "I wonder if this place has a name..." Blade wondered.
"I bet the name would be GreenGrass Valley..." Mayonaka said while reading her book. She didn't even look up.
"What are you reading?" Matsuru asked.
"Nothing special." Mayonaka stayed walking and reading, not looking up.
Naraku looked over her shoulders. "What are things?" She pointed at the symbols.
Annoyed Mayonaka looked up. "I can read them; they form words." She waved the finger from her book. "Now excuse me, I would like to continue!"
But Naraku didn't stop. "What is that?" She asked and pointed at a curve with a dot in it.
"It's an A!" Mayonaka hissed.
Naraku saw all the different symbols. "And this one?"
Mayonaka sighed; there was no way she would get the peace to finish her book. "It's an M." She explained Naraku, pointing at the curve with a vertical line through it.
However, while Naraku asked what each symbol was, no one noticed the shade that was following them...

Many hills and symbols later, Matsuru decided it was time for a rest. "I think we will be save between these 2 hills." He stated. "No one will spot us among these."
"Nor will we spot them." Blade sat down and put down his sword. "But I can use a nap now!"
"What this letter?" Naraku asked. It looked like a V with horizontal lines through it.
Mayonaka sighed. "That's a W."
"Look like V!" Naraku pointed at the V with a horizontal line through it.
Matsuru smiled while he joined them. "It looks like she's learning how to read!"
Mayonaka looked up. "Knowing which symbol represents which letter isn't enough. If you don't know how to spell words, it's useless!"
Near Blade, Sushi was tanning some leather, preparing it for use. But slowly, very slowly, she came closer and closer to Blade, who was polishing his sword. "Don't dare to measure me!" He threatened.
Sushi pouted. "I don't even want to make new clothes for you!" She mumbled.
"Good." Blade continued polishing his sword.
While Mayonaka was trying to teach Naraku how to read, Naraku suddenly looked up. "Great, she demands lessons and then doesn't pay attention."
Naraku turned back. "Something wrong?" Matsuru asked.
Naraku shook her head. "I thought I..." But she stopped herself. There was nothing.
The shadow that had been following them for a while managed to stay out of the wind. Crouching it went to the other side of the hill. Silence was all around it; no bird could be heard...
Blade stopped polishing his sword and lay himself back. "If I catch you near me Sushi..." He started.
"Stop whining!!" Sushi snapped, but then she screamed!
Out of no where, a large predator-cat jumped down the hill. Growling and screaming with all its might, it jumped over Blade at Sushi.
The attack was so sudden it surprised everyone! "Sushi!" Blade yelled and jumped up. At that moment the predator-cat turned around and before Blade could grab his sword, it leaped at him. With his large sharp claws, he slashed the poor young man before he could defend himself.
Matsuru saw his friend laying motionless on the floor. "Blade!" He yelled and drew his sword.
The predator-cat decided to abandon its prey and turned around. An arrow hit its paw. Screaming from pain it turned left, seeing Naraku holding a bow. "Naraku, get back!"
Naraku jumped away when the predator attacked her, leaving an open spot to Matsuru. With all his might, Matsuru jumped at the cat and pierced him with his sword.
However, it didn't kill the cat! The cat, almost the same size as Matsuru himself, twisted around, hoping to throw off Matsuru from his back.
Mayonaka didn't hesitate any longer. She grabbed a spear that was tied to Dusk's side and threw it at Sushi. "Do something!" She ordered.
Agile as ever, Sushi obeyed and leaped at the immense cat. With all her strength, she pushed the sharp spear into the body of the predator. With a large roar... the battle was over.
Sushi whipped her forehead. "Well, anyone interested in a jacket with big holes?" She joked, but everyone ignored her.
When Matsuru noticed the danger was over, he hurried to Blade. He was injured big time, and blood was all around him. However, Blade smiled. "So..." He trembled. "Didn't expect... the journey to end like this..."
"Blade, hang on!" Matsuru demanded. "I know..."
"A hunter knows when it's time to give something back for what he has taken..." Blade smiled. "It's my time...."
"No, I will NOT accept that!" Matsuru yelled. "You didn't survive the Black Knights to get killed by an oversized kitten!"
"It's all right..." Blade became paler and paler.
Matsuru felt helpless; this injury was much too great to be healed with herbs! There was no way he could survive this... unless...
Matsuru jumped up and grabbed the stunned Naraku. He pulled her down and placed her hands on the wound. "Do it!" He ordered.
Naraku looked at him confused. "Do what?" She asked.
"Heal him!" He screamed. "Like you healed me once!"
Naraku didn't understand him. "But... how I...?"
"Think about it really deeply!" Panic was taking over of him. "I know you have it in you! Concentrate!" Naraku still didn't know what to do. "Think about Blade getting better! Think about the wounds going away!"
Naraku looked at Blade, who had closed his eyes. He didn't move at all. "Wounds... not good. Make people cold. Then they do not move any more. I want Blade to move..."
"THINK ABOUT THAT!" Matsuru ordered.
Naraku closed her eyes, not knowing what to do at all. Suddenly her very first memory came into her mind again: the dead people she saw in that cottage. The staring woman, the cold skins... they didn't move at all any more! Like the things Blade had captured! The things they ate! Things that died... were suddenly gone!
'No...' Naraku thought, 'I do not want Blade to go away. Want him to stay! Want him to stay!'
Slowly light erupted from the tips of her fingers. Mayonaka and Sushi stared at this scene. Matsuru and Blade... they had never told them Naraku had magic! They gasped when they saw the light was slowly growing.
A magical aura filled the air. Naraku kept on thinking she didn't want Blade to go away and Matsuru looked at the pale face of his friend. Would Naraku be on time with accessing her healing powers? Blade felt so cold...
Then the light became blinding and a moment later it died out. Naraku fell backwards and huffed deeply. Matsuru grabbed her just in the nick of time. 'She's exhausted...' Matsuru noticed and then turned back at Blade.
His face showed colour... the wound was gone... but the eyes stayed closed. Mayonaka kneeled at Blade and placed her fragile hand on his body. "He's alive..." She whispered. When she looked up, she saw Matsuru's eyes, who was holding the tired Naraku. "Thanks to her..."
Matsuru looked at Naraku and smiled. "Well done..." He said to her.

Blade was still asleep, trying to recover from his injuries. Aside him lay Naraku, fast asleep as well. For the first time she called upon her powers and it drained all her energy.
Mayonaka, Sushi and Matsuru decided to focus on the predator that attacked him. Sushi felt his skin. "Mm, not bad quality." She noticed. "It will keep us warm in the winter." As a tanner, she knew how to recognise good quality. "Just try to damage it as little as possible."
Mayonaka looked at the beast. "This thing is huge!" She said. "We could eat a week from it!.... If we could keep it fresh that long...." Mayonaka stood up again and looked at the silent Matsuru. "Why didn't you tell?" She asked. "Didn't you think you could trust us?"
Matsuru looked away. "I... we... " He didn't know what to say. "We kinda thought that in the beginning. Didn't know who was part of Amordus and who wasn't... and then... we forgot..."
Both Mayonaka and Sushi looked at each other. Strange enough, they didn't feel insulted. They understood it. "So that's why Amordus wants her? For her powers?"
Matsuru nodded. "So far she only showed great fire powers, as well as healing powers.... but I have a feeling she has way more..."
