My teacher gets mad at us if we don't! None of the people look up at him except for me, so I only tap my foot a little, but without foot tapping, we'd be even worse than we already are!

Nobody really cares, some people tap their feet to keep the rhythm and some people don't. My band teacher last year made us tap our feet to keep the beat cuz we were so horrible but this year most of us have grown out of it. There's nothing wrong with it though! I tap my feet sometimes at jazz band cuz I love the stuff we play =]

::You'resomething BEAUTIFUL a [CONTRADICTION]
i actually rarely tap my foot only with pieces that have time signatures i'm not really used to, like when my middle school symphonic band played the Mission Impossible theme in 5/4 time. but my band director only makes us tap our feet if we're messing up; he makes us play with our section and tap our feet, because he's says it's how he can see what's going on in our heads. i guess. tapping your foot is good though, especially if you can't keep time in your head. iwannaPLAYTheGAME I wantthe FRICTION::

I'm constantly tapping my toes. I don't even realize it anymore. I usually tap my foot when I'm in band, but in all my other classes it's always toe tapping.

Tapping your foot is an extremely proficient way to keep time. Simple as that. Main tempo on your foot and subdivisions in your head. All of a sudden, you're a sight-reading champion.

Truth be told, I can't tap my foot ever since I joined marching band...I have to mark time, if anything. But sitting down, for some reason, I never can anymore. And oftentimes when I was younger, my feet never touched the ground either. It's a good thing I have a good sense of rhythm. 3nodding

Just tap your heel or toe. That way he doesn't yell at you.

I almost never tap my foot. I think it helps people, but I just don't need it. neutral During long rests I tap my heel to help keep on beat, though, so I don't lose count and come in late or anything.

What I do to keep up the good appearance and still have some fun with the piece aside from the bodily movement is tapping my heel. It's less noticeable and it better internalizes the beat. ^^

Tapping your foot? I haven't done that forever.
Whenever I play anywhere, I automatically start marking time. It's a good thing I'm a percussionist in the back, so nobody can see my feet move. It's a great habit to have, in my opinion. Whenever we practice indoor drumline music, I always mark time according to the places where we move in the drill. During marching band I would actually do this slide manuever whenever we practiced. I always mark time, though. Sometimes it's ridiculous.
