*Tavin hangs his head after Bard leaves and mumbles to himself*

Those that are lucky.... yes....

:::Cora looks down at Maggie who seems to be resting, although uncomfortably. She thinks to herself a moment before looking back up at Tavin:::

Captain...what is faith?

*Tavin puts his hands to his eyes in a wiping motion before turning to Cora*

Faith... is a belief in something that is so strong that you keep it even when logic dictates that its irrational to keep that belief.

Is that the contsruct by which places like this exist...? Because if that is the protocol assigned to Bard's ability to come back, I will be much more at ease, Captain.

*Tavin stared at Cora, eyes wide, unable to say anything, his thoughts racing*

That.... That can't be, can it? I.... I lost my faith in everything long ago...... when I stopped being Mjolner.... How can this place... And yet... It makes perfect sense.......

*Tavin coughed and spoke*

Well... Its a very good idea, that's for certain. I suppose that if we have a little faith in Bard, it wouldn't hurt either, right?
PostPosted: Mon Jan 10, 2005 11:54 pm

:::Cora raised an eyebrow at Tavin's indirect answer:::

I don't know Captain...would it hurt :::you:::: ?

If you ask me to deny every shred of science that has defined the human status I've lived my life by from the moment I could have memories, I will, and I'll believe you...if it means that I don't have to lose her. :::She takes Maggie's hand:::

:::Faith, that was it. That was the word that meant "deniable logic"...the thing her people would kill her for having:::

*Tavin looked at Cora and smiled*

I don't see how having faith in your friends can possibly hurt, Cora. In fact, I think that being friends relies a lot on having faith in the other person. Its important to trust a friend. You need to believe that they will help you, even when it seems totally pointless for them to.

It does hurt...Captain. :::Cora feels the mental strain deepen, and she's tempted to just let the tears roll from her eyes, but she can't. Not in front of him:::

These friends, this faith, has destroyed everything I've ever known, and it seems that if I am not careful, it will destroy everything I could be as well. It has made my whole existance prior to the Brink a lie. ...but now that I know it, I would not have it any other way.

[Alright my darlings, I'm to bed. I'll be back tomorrow night, but meanwhile, you can all just assume Maggie's still sleeping 3nodding TTFN!]

*Tavin wraps his arms around Cora in a big hug*

Cora. Nothing has actually changed from before you were in The Brink other than your perception of the things around you. You see the world differently now, because you have learned things. This is normal. As we gain understanding of the world around us, we see it in a different light, it begins to mean different things. Don't ever feel like what could have been has been destroyed, because that isn't possible. Its only matured and evolved into something different.

:::As the captain tried to comfort her, Cora found it just that much harder not to let it out:::

:::the hurt shown through in her voice, having trouble staying steady::: I...I don't think you understand, Captain When I say it may destroy everything I could become, I mean that quite literally...every single command, every single ideal and value that the people of my time hold I find in question. I am no longer natural there, and every single breathe I take is forced. If at any moment they suspect that I am not like them, they will deem me instable, and since I cannot be 'cured' of my new found understandings...they will eject me from their race.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:43 am

*Tavin looked Cora dead in the eyes, tears running down his cheeks*

Being kicked out of your race? Hunted down by them, perhaps? Being branded an outcast becuase what you feel and believe is unacceptable to the world you live in? Cora, I have nothing BUT understanding for what you mean. But what I've come to understand is that the world is much more vast than any of us truly realizes. That our own narrow views don't do justice to the scape of what really is. It does hurt to realize that what we've been taught is a lie. I won't say otherwise. But knowing that... THAT doesn't make us less. It makes us MORE. It makes us better for understanding that what we knew all along was wrong. It means that we can forge on to understand the truth of things. That's whats important.

:::The tears did it. The Captain let her see them, and he was not ashamed...suddenly she felt cold for holding them back, and they finally came freely:::

:::Cora couldn't say much for a while, she just wanted to hold on, and cry... :::

:::When she finally got a little hold of herself, her words were jumbled, and squeezed in between gasps and sobs:::

I don't know :::sob::: what's happening to me. What's happening :::gulp::: to my home. To this place... I, I...I don't know! I'm so scared...what if...:::sob::: I slip? They'll...kill me. I don't want to die there. Not...in their world...

*Tavin nodded, still holding Cora in a hug. He gently petted her head, reassuringly, like you would an upset child*

There, there. Hush, now. We've all had a rough time, have we not? But time and patience will reveal the answers that we need. You should go get some sleep now, Cora. I'll stay here and watch over Maggie, so don't worry. You go rest for now, we'll try to think things through later, when we're both thinking clearly, okay? You just hang in there, okay?

:::Cora leaned back, and began wiping away the tears that she couldn't stop now if she wanted to, amidst the sniffles she managed to nod her head. She probly wouldn't be able to get to sleep, being so upset as she was, but whatever the Captain said...:::

:::sniffle sniffle::: alright. :::She dried a few more tears, then looked down at Maggie for a moment. Before she managed to stand. She looked at Tavin, tears still rolling freely, but she had caught her breathe a bit:::

Thank you, Captain. Please fetch me if there are any changes, or if you need me for anything at all... :::She bowed her head slightly, and left to go retrieve the key to her room.
