Military pay is all done by electronic deposit into your account. Your housing money will be part of your normal paycheck that you can view online. You can check his LES here: https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx [the password is set up to be the last 5 of his social until you have it changed.] There's a link down on the page for Naval pay inquiries and such, but I think everyone can check on the MyPay site.
As for when he gets paid? I'm not sure how long it takes to start up, but I'd think the first paycheck should be the payperiod after he gets in...but I wasn't married to Chris when his pay started up, so I'm not sure. I can tell you that pay days are the 15th and last days of the month if you get paid twice a month though, if that helps.

DrowLady My husbands going into the navy on the DEP on March 14 anyone know how long it takes for them to start sending out the pay checks and houseing checks? He'd probably get his first check around the 1st of April. This is the usual pay-period the military follows. They usually pay on the 1st and 15th of every month. And pay for housing is included in that check. As long as you're married and he's counted as a Sep Rat, then you'll get housing allowancs AND separation pay (for him having to be away from you - which isn't much. I think my hubby got $2 a day for being away from me and our son during bootcamp! xd )

Don't you know that I was able to fund a crazy shopping spree with all that dough I was rolling in?! I paid off my car loan and bought a solid gold statue of myself as well!

Eris_Rose talking about pay ... someone told me that he would be able to send no money at all while in boot camp but then again others tell me diffrent plus i have no way to get ahold of him who is right and if so can talk to about any kind of money They have to spend SOME money in Basic. Buying the basics like soap, kiwi, paper, pens, envelopes, haircuts, etc. So there should be trips to the mini PX. But other than that, no. No massive spending. They're not going to let him go out and buy a PS or computer. Honestly, the best idea, is to set up a seperate account just for him, and deposit about $100.00 a pay check into it. That way he's able to have the money he needs if he needs it, and you'll still have access to the main account for bills and such. EDIT - I read that as "spend" not "send". Don't mind me, just move along.... sweatdrop

Becuase all his pay and allowances are done through direct deposit, you'll have instant access to it if you share a bank account with him. If not, then he'd have to send you money. But that wouldn't be too difficult. He could simply write you a check and send it to you with a letter he's written. His TI's won't keep him from sending you money when you need it, but he'll have to send it out like regular mail. As for him spending any of his money while at bootcamp? In the Air Force we were given little temp debit cards with a balance of $250.00 on them. We could go to the BX, Mini-Shops, dry cleaners, and all that and use our little debit cards. Later the money we had spent would be debited from our actual bank accounts or directly from our pay.

Well, this is why it's important to get things taken care of before they leave somewhere, not after. Pretty much I hate to say, there's nothing you can do till he gets out really. Send him some letters, but expect a delay. You DO have a way of getting a hold of him, send a letter.
They generally frown upon sending cash through the mail, it's very risky and chances are it's either going to get stolen or lost. Which stresses the importance of getting a join back account or at least one that you have POA over with the direct deposit. Although that's something that would have been have to doen before hand.
So, I would pretty much let him know, but don't overworry him that since this wasn't addressed before he left, but honestly, I would just wait till he's out of boot camp. If you waited till now to even address the subject, might as well wait it out. I know my dh really didn't have time to think about hitting up an ATM or writing out a check, Ft. Benning was really on his a**, like most boot camps and it was one less thing that he had to worry about back home.

XD Damn, they all got to it before me! ROFL.
But yes, the military pay system is entirely by direct deposit, so if you two have a joint bank account then you have access to the money. If you don't, write him a letter and hopefully he'll have time to send you a check or to arrange something.
But you do have to keep in mind that in BCT they go out of their way to absolutely drain the recruits, so he may not even have the energy to go if he gets the chance. Chris was worked so hard it would take him days to write a short letter and most of it would be a sentance apologizing for falling asleep and then another before it just trailed off...because he fell asleep again he was so tired. rofl
Just write him and be patient; things will work out and consider it a learning experience. Like many things in life, in the military you have to try and think of these things before they happen which isn't always the easiest.

Then hopefully he will send you a check at some point. If not, then you really have no choice other than to wait until he's done with BMT.
But I know how you feel when you say you cried reading his letters. I think we ALL did when we got our hubbies' first bootcamp letters. I know I did. It's normal, nothing to feel bad about at all.
But I really think you should contact your hubby's recruiter or the nearest base's Family Support Center and see if they can help you out with information and other things while he's away. They're there to help ^_^.
