I'm one of those Band marchers-turned-indoor guarders...yeah and it turned out that i was pretty good...Our indoor show (we had our last competition yeaterday) was "The Suncreen Song" and we took second place in cavalcade championships and third in some TIA shows we did for fun...Guard was really fun...this was my first season and i have moved up to 5's on rifle...and i got a flag solo...and a dance solo...i guess i'm one of those people who gets stuff really quickly cause after the first 4 practices...guard became easier for me...i LOVE Lightbrigade...they make sabre look good (no offense to sabre lovers...i just don't like sabre...they don't seem visually stimulating to me...unless they are white whaer you can see them instead of seeing periodical flashes) I love flag doubles...and my slol included a flag double catching it behind my back...it was SWEET!!!!! i can throw a quad on rifle and catch it behind my back...adn i can catch it under my leg. we also had a trick where we threw a 5 and did a tumble catching it on our knees...and one where we threw a triple stading on a chair and jumped and caught it while sitting...adn one flag where i did a backbend and the other girl spun it on my belly...we had an AMAZING SHOW!!!

I was the only freshman in that could do all those but oh well.I recieved an award from National highschool scholars (sports addition) because some person saw my work and put me in the book so that is cool.

My guard saga started back in 7th grade, and I caught on pretty quickly. In 8th grade I was even made captian! Once I got into high school, I chose marching my flute over spinning in the fall guad. I made it into the j.v. guard that winter, and I think that the only reason is becuase I didn't apin durring the fall. Our instructor got fired that year and a lot of people quiet, so we just made one guard that compeated in the SO class. I was on the rifl eline that year and was throwing 5's in no time! I decided not to spin sabre that year becuase I ant to do more flag, which is one of my favorites! The next year (last year) I didn't make it on the sabre line simply becasue we had sabre and rifles goign at the same time and I'm better on rifle. This year, I'm going to try to get on the sabre line and I think I have a pretty good chance of makeing it. I'll just take some private leasons or something before tryouts...

I catch on to things pretty quick, but then I'm set with that and so I have trouble when they go back and change counts or drill spots. I do saber and flag, and I'm debating doing rifle next year. We just did a fire drill a few days ago and they told us to bring all our stuff, and when we were outside me and one of my guard buddies (and fellow saber-tossers) who's in my class were saying we should have ran in to the equipment closet and grabbed our flags and sabers. mrgreen

I am a Sof. in High school and the Captain of our color guard.
We use 6 ft. flags, 5 ft. (more for practice.), and 2 ft. flags.
We also have rings, rifles, and batons.
I like flags and rings.
