Student Name: Hazan
Character Chosen: Ryder from PAW Patrol
How are they a Leader?: Ryder is a good leader example because he is good at delegating, communication, inspiring, and motivating. Whenever a problem comes up in the community, Ryder figures out which pups are best to send out to help. Sometimes people or pups aren't feeling their mightiest but Ryder is able to say help them believe in themselves. He is smart, makes many of the gadgets the pups use, and was even the one that trained the pups! Ryder is calm and patient during a problem which makes it possible for him to help figure out how to solve things. Everyone trusts him.

Response: Hazan had thought long and hard on all the characters she knew from movies and books. The litch wasn't a big fan of reading, but occasional C.C. had read to her before bed. Harry Potter was a tempting choice but ne hadn't finished reading it to her yet. Xe had told Hazan it was a bit mature so they had waited to start it until Hazan was a little older. So far the story was captivating and Hazan didn't know why C.C. thought it was too mature for her before. But who was she to tell nem how to do nir job.

That meant Hazan turned her attention to her current favorite T.V. show, PAW Patrol! The problem was which character to see as the leader. There was Ryder, the human leader, or Chase, the pup leader. Both were pretty good choices. Although if Hazan thought on it, Chase always looked to Ryder for leadership. Ryder must be the true leader then, Hazan decided.

Now to think of the qualities Ryder shows that make him a good leader. Hazan remembers being told to list her thoughts to help organize them before making a rambling mess. That's exactly what Hazan did on the top of her paper before writing out a hopefully good essay to turn in.

Planet Description: This planet is called Crustaceania. It is home to Lobb, a massive creature that moves very slowly across its surface. Initially, it was only Lobb that existed on this planet, but as interstellar space travel became more prominent, other creatures began to make a home there. They found that the terrain, while seemingly metallic, was in fact just very tightly knit vegetation. It was surprisingly fertile, too, so the space travelers were able to plant things and grow the food of other planets. Eventually a colony was made of humanoid space travelers, yet they began to adapt to their environment over years of living there. The first recorded incident of when they discovered Lobb ( "the almighty" as it would be referred to as in later texts) was one that spoke of the creature slowly making its way through their colony, leaving destruction in its wake as it scuttled slowly over the remains of their homesteads. When it left, the life-forms decreed Lobb to be the God of this world ( other works throughout the years would depict Lobb as the God of Destruction or a harbinger of doom for many centuries, up until 4000 A.L. when they would begin to regard its second incarnation as a malevolent god and the God of Good Eating.) These inhabitants went out of their way to make themselves appear more like Lobb, in hopes that doing so would allow its wrath to pass over them. Their forearms and hands turned to massive claws over the years and they grew an extra set of limbs to help them scuttle around the ground, though with considerably more speed and agility than their god. Eventually they would come to call themselves Crustaceans and name their planet what we know it today. These days it's best to avoid Crusaceania as a tourist location. While Lobb has reached its third incarnation (the process others would consider molting or shedding its shell in able to grow larger and stronger) the citizens of the planet are not a modern society and seem to look and act like their so-called god more than the humanoids they resembled when first touching down on this planet.

Student Name: Talia
Original Story: Snow White

Story: The assignment was interesting, though if Talia thought about it, the best villains were those with complex characters, which meant that the first few things that she thought of wouldn’t work. After all, if one could emphasize with a villain a bit in what she had read, could that really count when telling it from a “different” point of view? Instead, she had been forced to go to the classics, and decided to go with the story Snow White. The version with the evil step-mother at least. The cartoon movie one. The other versions were a bit more… disturbing to say the least. Honestly, unless one was talking about a children’s book, it was a bit hard to find a villain or at least a story where both parties weren’t at fault somehow. At least, from what she had read. Fantasy was a bit complicated that way.

“The Evil Queen in snow white was a narcissist and yes, she shouldn’t have tried to have her step-daughter killed. That is a terrible thing and one should not be forgiven for it so easily. But when you’re told that you’re the most beautiful until one day when your step daughter is finally “old” enough to be called “fairest of the land”, then I would certainly be bothered too. After all, it’s a bit disturbing to say that when a child reaches a certain age that it’s suddenly okay to be considered the most beautiful in all the land when the adult has to at least been trying for quite some time. Perhaps the mirror in the story is the true villain? It was the one that started the whole thing in the first place. Unless of course the Evil Queen just had some sort of mental illness. The Evil Queen was completely tricked by the evil mirror and she smashed it to pieces instead, and decided that it wasn't worth it to go and compete with someone who wasn't even of legal age.”

It… wasn’t the best response. But then again, it wasn’t something that Talia would be able to think of too quickly.

Student Name: Lailah
Original Story: Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Story: Well, this was certainly an interesting assignment of Lailah! She hadn’t really thought of looking at a story from a different point of view! Or at least, she didn’t read too many books because of her inability to concentrate on a book long enough to finish it. But still, this would be interesting! And the first story that she thought of was Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

“The three bears were just an ordinary bear family who were trying to live their lives. Papa, Mama, and the Baby Bear all had different preferences for their porridge, and of course they used different sized chairs. Papa and Mama Bear had two separate beds because Mama Bear sometimes sleep-walked in the middle of the night, which meant poor Papa Bear had to sleep in a different bed.

One day, after getting back from a walk and letting their porridge cooldown to the correct temperatures for their various preferences, they came home and saw that someone had broken in and vandalized it! Unfortunately, it was poor Baby Bear’s belongings that were the worst out of all of them, and when they went upstairs to check out the rest of what happened in their house, with Papa Bear holding a large stick in case the intruder was still there, they got to the shared bedroom and realized a girl had broken in!

They then went and reported it to the authorities, who then came and arrested the girl, and eventually she was convicted of breaking and entering and not only had to do community service, but also had to pay the Bear’s back for everything that she had destroyed. The end.”

It was mostly the same, but it was still different too! Lailah was happy with the outcome of her story and turned it in.

Student Name: Jean Luc
Character Chosen: Detective Conan
How are they a Leader?: He’s a good leader because he isn’t afraid to go into a dangerous situation, even if it could hurt or kill him. He makes sure that his friends are okay and tries to protect them. He’ll even put himself in danger to make sure that they are safe, even if they don’t listen to him. While he may not be listened to all the time, because he can’t relate too well to the little kids since he himself is a high school student, he doesn’t abandon them or take them into dangerous situations on purpose. Most of the time when they are in danger, it’s because of one of the other kid’s fault or they just happened upon it.

Response: Jean was eager to complete the assignment. After all, there were so many characters to choose from! But he wondered if most of the ones he considered to be leaders would be appropriate for the class. After all, he was a freshling, but he watched and read things that were a bit more mature than he should be reading. He couldn’t help it though! The best mystery novels were those for adults and stuff! Sure, there were the Hardy Boys, but he had read all of them, and the assignment was only for one person! There were two brothers in those books! So, he obviously couldn’t count those!

It was then that he remembered one series that really made him excited about being a detective. Detective Conan! And while there were plenty of other people that Conan had to work with to be able to solve his cases, he was the de-facto leader of the group of little kids that he had to hang out with! Though Jean did feel a bit sorry for him since he knew that after someone had learned so much, going back to those classes would have felt like such a brain drain!

Still, he was happy that he had found one detective to write about!

Student Name: Marion
Character Chosen: Rainbow Dash - MLP:FIM
How are they a Leader?: Rainbow Dash is definitely a leader because she’s very brave and is willing to fly straight into danger! And she also isn’t afraid to protect her friends when they may need it and to protect others too. Sure, she may have some flaws, but doesn’t everyone have them? Even ponies? Still, she isn’t afraid to jump right into danger and do what is right, in her mind, even if that means she may have to hurt those that she holds dear. She also symbolizes the element of loyalty! What else could anyone ask for in a leader? Though Twilight is pretty good too.

Response: Marion rolled her eyes at the assignment and put her head on the table. A leader? Really, didn’t they already have leaders in cartoons and stuff? The obvious ones at least. Why did they have to write about specific ones? Couldn’t they just list of the traits of leaders? If they were really going with such an assignment, then couldn’t she also say that some of the bad guys were leaders too? Most of them had an underling or many underlings and could command people and take over kingdoms and stuff! If they weren’t good leaders, then why would anyone be following them in the first place?!

Still, she decided to do the assignment, and instead decided to focus on a character where there was a leader in the show, but this character was not that leader. After all, they didn’t say they had to choose the actual leader, did it? Well if it did, then too bad, she was going to right about Rainbow Dash anyway. After all, the pony was her favorite out of all of them, even if she didn’t like the hair colors that much. At least she was sassy though and did what she wanted! Just like what Marion wanted to do!
