Heaving metal beams around the base for quick transport saves the facility a good amount of time!

Nictor had almost certainly jinxed himself with his positivity earlier because he was laid out in a hallway with metal beams strewn about the floor and the old cart he'd been ordered to use busted and broken against the wall. So much for "get those beams to building crew B-15 in Bay 7 as quick as possible" cause the "quick" wasn't really possible anymore.

Nictor had gotten halfway there before tripping when he got nervous over a passing lab teach who was muttering furiously to themselves. He'd tried to speed up, but, well, he'd ended up stepping on the front end of the cart, making himself stumble. He lost control of the cart, whacked his head off the edge of the thing, and was face down on the floor as the result.

Well, these beams were still expected and he wasn't sure the punishment for not fulfilling orders from supervisors, but he doubted they were fun. Nictor plucked himself up and decided he'd just have to carry them one at a time because that cart would never roll again. Where did the fourth wheel get to anyway?

If there was anything to be learned from the previous scuffle, it was to maybe keep the senior staff in good spirits. So, she thought it would be of use to show them some kindness in these trying times. And, admittedly, she wanted to keep an eye on escalating riffraff. Just in case. For everyone's sake.

She strided through the hub, having just dropped off some refreshments, and had yet again another report to go over in the meantime. Somehow trolls kept taking her for the type to be into that. They weren't wrong, but at the same time she had to wonder where they got the assumption just looking at her.

After all, they were all wearing the same uniforms.

Leeroi paged through his current research documents, including— at the top of the pile— a lengthy paper on the logistics of gerbils in space travel. Three of his own cuddly rodents resided in a backpack, sitting beside him as he reviewed his information. In careful thought, Leeroi hadn't even noticed that he was holding two pens, one in his mouth and the other in his non-robotic hand (the other being replaced with a more claw-like mechanism while his normal one received repairs).

Scribbling down his thoughts in the margins, he didn't notice Hemera at first. Then a different noise caught Leeroi's attention, but when he spotted the tealblood he didn't waste a second to beckon her over. Taking the second pen out of his mouth, he motioned for her to join him at his table.

Hemera noted the errors in the paperwork before here, including typos, formatting errors, and logistics that, from what she understood from the researchers, didn't work like that. They would have to be marked, checked to be corrected, and likely out whoever was incapable of writing these things down to begin with. She sensed a decent temp job, if only she had proof of her own skills versus whatever this mess was. Mera only looked up from her work as someone waved her down. She halted mid-stride. Then, upon seeing who it was, she was tempted to keep going.

Furore. But, she had to give pause. First, Mera checked to make sure he wasn't gesturing towards someone else. From what she could tell from a quick look, no. Why her, though? Very odd. Suspicious. She had dealt with enough questionable highbloods to be on her guard.

She stepped over. Then, after a second of realizing he meant for her to sit did, the tealblood did exactly that. She kept her shoulders straight, and hands in her lap, with her report.

Then, hesitantly, "Yes...?"

"Mm...Myre, right?" Leeroi brought his knuckles to his lips in thought. That sounded right to him. If anything, he was close enough. He shrugged, sorting through his papers. "You seem like an intelligent type, brains over brawn and all that?" The blueblood schmoozed, knowing full well that both were equally important, which was why he had to be the best at both.

He rested his chin in his hands, a smirk growing on his lips. "What do you think about the space ladder's progress?" He asked, curious about the tealblood's true opinion. "What does this mean for the future of space engineering?" He asked, being intentionally vague but nonetheless excited.

"Well I'll tell you..." Leeroi explained, reaching into his backpack. Cupping his hands, he brought them back to the table and unfolded them in front of Mera, presenting a fat little gerbil.

"IT'S GERBILS!" He said excitedly, smiling wide and giving a tiny laugh, waiting eagerly for Hemera's reaction.

Hemera stayed silent as she watched Leeroi speak. Analyzing. Assessing. She squinted a little at what he called her. Was he mocking her? Between the wrong name and calling her 'the intelligent type', after how much of an a** he had been around her in the past, she sat there, wary.

She, of course, had plenty of opinions on the project and what it might mean for engineering and troll kind. But, she could tell that Leeroi was putting on a show. There was no actual room to speak, and even if she did, would he actually listen? Doubtful.

So the tealblood kept her hands in her lap, watching Leeroi continue. She even let herself lean a little bit to peer at what he was getting out of his pack. But, she had to straighten herself again to keep up appearances. She didn't actually care.

And yet, Hemera caught herself blinking at the reveal. "O-oh." Then, she laughed. Before she could stop it out of grade A pettiness, a giggle escaped her throat. And it continued from there. It amused her! Connecting gerbils, to space, a presentation like that...

She loved it.

"That's adorable." she said as soon as she could catch her breath. After that, her face dropped. Hemera had to compose herself. He was making fun of her then she let him get away with? What? Probably mocking her further?

She cleared her throat. "Excuse me. I need to go." Mera stood up, and hastily went on her way.

Finding him endearing, even for a second, meant the terrorist won.

Doing this kind of stuff reminded Luxara of her days as a kid, seeking out intelligence in OHC. Or, really, "intelligence". She was a child, how much could she possibly doing that was as cool or important as she had thought at the time? Heck, hadn't she even though there was some hobo she was trying to tail for some reason?

If there was, the poor thing was probably a local best off left alone. But then, everyone living there at the time were. Maybe best not to think about it, actually.

Weird to find that childhood nostalgia was less innocent than the work she was doing now. There was still foul play, but it felt less...greasy? Yes, that was the word. And certainly nothing huge was about to explode or anything.

Picking up intel wasn't hard. However, it did always get boring to read for too long. Some trolls actually did that as a hobby. Madness! Luxara preferred to listen in on conversations, watch stuff go down, etc. Hard to do when spying on the other team, though. She certainly couldn't go into Civisect like with OHC intel. Would stretch her legs more, though. Maybe she could at least go for a walk and claim it was an errand for something or other? Maybe get to a safehouse while out? Hmm. Something to think about, for sure.

Forera nodded firmly at his response, seeming sure of her idea working. She wished she could help the kid in his emotional moment with his lusus, but that was neither her business or her lusus. Watching him gave her emotions she didn't particularly want to think of, back when Serpentmom would take hits for her when she didn't need to. Though Serpentmom would do that, even now. Forera released a soft sigh. She enjoyed his motivation! It was terrible about his lusi, though, but revenge would be had! "That scientist don't seem like he's got any lights on up or downstairs. He was wreckin' a ton o'trolls! Total shame, y'know." Forera clicked her tongue. It was time for them to distribute a good troll beating!

...If she could even find the scientist! The tealblood normally felt his leering pair of eyes by now, but right now, she didn't. "Maybe I'll need to try'nd ask around. We can punch other things until then!" Forera tapped her chin. "Or maybe, er, do stuff. I don't usually do stuff. I probably should." The spunky teen seemed thoughtful. "Nice weapon y'got there though, kid!" Forera chuckled, smiling brightly. "I'm gonna start hitting stuff soon. Maybe if we keep fighting the things attacking us we can get more info on them? I dunno, its a possibility!" Forera shrugged. "I'll keep searchin' though! If I find anythin' I'll letya know!"

Sephos slept restlessly until nightfall, tossing and turning amid his sopor slime. Groggily, he tended to his flowers and made a few cuttings to take with him and give out to others. Maku's inquisitive rumble outside the door to his communal dormblock was his cue to drag his still-tired body outside.

Initially, their walk was uneventful as they strode off to the part of the facility that Sephos was supposed to work in (and investigate). And then...

"ERROR. UNAUTHORIZED FLOWERS. PLEASE DISPOSE OF AND FILL OUT FORM UU-3-F-FLORAL-USE-IN-PUBLIC-BUILDINGS." Maku's usual rumble became more like a growl. Another robot (oddly enough, looking up at Maku and his flowering foliage) had appeared. Sephos had thought that nightmare over.

"Go away!" Sephos said angrily, shoving them out of the way forcibly. He didn't want to deal with that s**t. Parts of the robot fell off at his shove, revealing broken screws and intricate, mildly sparking wires. Sephos didn't stand around to admire his handiwork - he and his lusus started moving. Fast.

There were more of them, the robots, and they were relentless, hounding Sephos and Maku with questions and statements that neither of them really understood. "Get AWAY!" Sephos cried, his voice tinny with aggravation and panic.

"UNAUTHORIZED FLOWERS"

Suddenly, one of the robots snatched the bouquet from Sephos's hand. He was on Maku's shoulder, so they'd had to climb up some scaffolding to do it, but grab they did. Sephos shrunk back against Maku's 'neck'. "Give it back! Go away!"

Maku swiped at the robot, knocking them down to the ground below. It broke into pieces, wires sputtering, speakers distorting. "UNaUtHorIZZZZZZzzzzzzzz...d...." it managed, before the lights of it's eyes dimmed and died. The small parcel of flowers fell to ther ground next to it with a soft, foliated thud...

The flowers! Sephos had to go get them! He began to climb down Maku's limbs like a tree-dwelling monkeybeast. Maku hoomed in alarm. Sephos should stay on his shoulder, where he was safe.

But Sephos didn't listen. He had to get to the flowers, his hard-grown flowers. They were a spot of home in this dry, metal desert, and they gave him good feelings like hope and relief. He hit the ground and scrambled for them... only to be pulled back by Maku's woody graspers as the bouquet was vaporized in front of him.

"UNAUTHORIZED FLOWERS." said one of the robots, the lasers in it's orbits dimming. "ELIMINATED."

"NO!" Sephos screamed, "WHY? WHYYY?" Maku grimly picked up his charge and started forward again, a determined look on the treebeast's leafy face as his charge began to sob...

Sephos sobbed into Makus leaves, staining them green with his darkened tears. He'd cried before, sure. He'd also been this overwhelmed before - the painting 'game' of Bloodfest was an event he wished he didn't remember so clearly. But never had he wanted to just scream. He'd never cried this long, or this much. He'd never felt this sort of tension, like the string of an instrument, making his body feel like it was about to vibrate and snap with the slightest provocation.

"I wan' to go home." he snuffled miserably to Maku. "Wan' go home..." Home was lovely and quiet. There were no robots or flower-destroyers or scary events that could happen or horrible greedy bandits or raids. He didn't have to worry about people there. Of course, there were very few trolls he cared about there (there were very few trolls in general) but that was fine, wasn't it?

Maku threw one of the robots out of his way as he kept going towards his destination. He wasn't so happy about this place either, and if his charge wanted to go, then they could go. But Maku also understood why Sephos would want to stay. The catastrophe that that nice little orangeblood (the one without the punkins) had mentioned would affect him, because all of nature was connected. Sephos had thought he could stop it. It was an interesting thought for Maku. Though that was not his role in the world, the treebeast wanted to try it at least once, so that he could tell his next troll about it, and they could learn whatever Maku had learned, and grow stronger. He reminded his troll gently of this, in a murmur like the wind in a quiet grove.

Sephos nodded, still crying. "Yeah. Yeah." he wiped his face, "I know..." he was still miserable. He still hated it here, but... "I'm gonna... I'm going to help stop the bad thing from happening." He would stay.
