Together, they had reduced the melee from five to three, and they'd be able to finish this last beetle and his spawn without distraction. Alyx went back on the defensive, lifting his shield to cover himself from any attack, unlikely though it was that any of the beetles would attack. This entire fight had consisted of the beetles hiding and skittering excitedly around, but none had even tried to damage the swordsmen. It was actually kind of sad. They just weren't fighters. Alyx wasn't really one to judge them on that, though. He pretty much had the same combat style right now: put up his shield and wait for someone to hit it. Rota didn't have enough energy to strike both of them with his favored move, but he DID have enough strength for what was next to come. His blade's aura went from black to Red before his eyes once again. He was glad there was a bit of distinction among his abilities, and wondered how his techniques would further differentiate themselves from one another. He hefted his Demonic Blade at the mini beetle that seemed to want combat more than its twin. he was going to take advantage of its bloodlust with his own as he brought Neo Abyssian down on the insectoid foe. Thinking of that, while this aura was maintained, The last beetle was attacking VERY impotently. Alyx had blocked it with ease and thus Rota took advantage of its weakness by stabbing his sword forward into the broad side of the beetle. He would be impressed if, as before, this did not kill this beetle. It was a rarity but history had shown that it could in fact happen. He couldn't focus on that aspect though. Destiny awaited him. They were free of this room. Alyx looked toward the next set of doors and picked one based entirely on the random voices in the back of his head. He hadn't gotten anywhere by trying to get to the boss. Maybe he'd just start heading toward whatever exit looked like it would hold the greatest adventure. He could do with some adventure. The tedium was beginning to get to him, despite the promises of loot and power. He couldn't get that loot or power until he'd gotten out, and he couldn't get out until the time was right, so he'd just look to amass the greatest mountain of treasure in the entire game. Yeah. That was his new mission. Forget the boss. He just wanted to explore and find the secrets that this place had to offer him. With that in mind, he ventured forth. Yes those things were beetles as usual, but the feeling was still there. He flared his blade red as before and stabbed it at the bravest of all the beetles. it was attacking versus the other two staying still, and thus it was ripe for destruction. He usually started this with a Double Strike but he wanted to keep things a bit fresh, and he hadn't used this technique nearly enough yet. He stayed on top of combat, certain that this bout would be savored for a while under his power. Of course! This one was a genius! Nothing brought in viewers like a good recurring villain! What better plot than the lone survivor, too scared to face his fate, who struggles with his decision to flee instead of submitting to his mandated ethnic cleansing. On the one hand, he knows that he's worthless and deserves to die, but on the other hand, the thing that makes him so worthless is his cowardice. Once he overcomes that fear, he will come back, and face his fate as dramatic music plays in the background. He will return to fanfare, and kneel down, and be slaughtered like the rest. Those pieces then grew tiny legs and eyes and looked at Alyx. They ignored him then when they looked at Rota. Suddenly all of their collective eyes glowed red and they began congregating in one spot. They began to climb over each other as they lashed their minuscule bodies together into the vague representation of a beetle. The cracks in its former armor would not seal as the open wounds wept blood, pus, and other miscellaneous fluids. All eyes of this "beetle" were pointed outward...and all were centered on one goal: Killing the one(s) that had killed it. it let out a unified haunting roar of wrath, and Rota had to compose himself a bit. These things were getting more horrific the more he saw them. There was no telling how bad they were going to get later. Regardless, Neo Abyssian flared black light defiantly as he brought his left hand up to grab the hilt from a shouldered position, and then extended both arms as he brought the blade and its afterimage down hard on the legionic beetle he was facing now.
