It'd come, Faster reminded himself, and thought about the assembled kin instead. There were many of them, and some of them he'd never seen before a few seconds ago. New arrivals, he thought. Perhaps he might be mad, but Faster was not the sort to blame others for things, whether they were in his control or not. No; they were the disadvantaged ones, after all.

No, there: the last goose had been caught. He could tell from the silence, the tense triumph of the place. He stood from where he'd been hiding and bowed his head in congratulations. He had caught six plump geese: not the most, but, he thought, the proudest catch.
