"Okay." Junko gave a little nod of her head. He turned away and her heart ached. She still felt so guilty about what she'd done to him. He was so hurt, and it made her feel awful seeing him like this. It was too late to take back her decision...and it wouldn't fix things even if she did. "A-all right..."

She watched him walk away and took a deep breath, closing her eyes a moment. Count to ten, clear your head..

Junko felt oddly better when she opened her eyes again, a hint of a smile on her lips. She felt okay. She'd done it! She'd talked to Seiji without crying or breaking down. She was okay. She'd be okay.

Thank you, Jack.

With a sigh of relief Junko turned away from Seiji and looked around. Friends. Friends. Friends. Where were--oh...was that Yaya?

"I found you!" She called out as she ran straight for them, throwing her arms around the nearest ghoul.

He reached into his pocket again, intending to pull out some money for a little lembas of his own, but Ruth threw him a piece instead. Brenley wasn't the most coordinated boil, and he fumbled to catch it, freezing in momentary disbelief when it didn't fall into the grass. He felt a twinge of jealousy as the other reaper stuffed the bread into her mouth, but it didn't last. Even if he had found a way to get this human food past his odd headgear, he really didn't want to throw up in this thing.

Brenley inched forward, hovering nearby as Serafina comforted Ruth. "Agreed." At least for now. His bread went into the pocket with his coins. There would be plenty of time to experiment with it later. "Are you... all right?"

When Ruth thought to herself that she wanted in on the discomfort, she should have specified that she wanted to be a spectator and not a participant. Maybe she ought to look into human weaponry and subtly dismember that human peddler... Unceremoniously and with as little grace as possible, the reaper simply wiped at her mouth with a corner of her cape. Oops, so sorry professor, except not really.

She looked up to her companions, wryly wishing she waited until they had taken a bite before she scarfed hers down. She waved her hands in dismissal, trying to prove that despite her weakened condition, their concern was misplaced. Ruth was determined to turn this to her advantage. Somehow. The details eluded her right now so focus on something else!

Which apparently involved her knees buckling under from the first step and ending with her face-planted on the ground. Thankfully not where she had thrown up, thank Jack for small miracles.

"Blue?!" The witch squawked in a most undignified manner, a hand flapping near her face as though that might help change her eye color back to pink. "Well I suppose that's not too bad... It doesn't look absolutely horrendous does it?" Perhaps it was a silly thing to be self-conscious about, especially when the witch wasn't wearing a stitch of black and felt almost naked without the dark color. But pink was very important to her! It was a shame to lose her favorite color, even for a silly human world excursion.
But Amphi's problem seemed much larger at the moment so Belladonna smiled kindly at her before she ushered her between two booths for a tiny bit of privacy. With fluttering hands she stood the ghoul before herself, straightened the mermaid's shoulders and then, without bothering to worry about personal space, began to untie the corset.
"Corsets aren't all that bad, but human ones are just downright unfortunate. None of them actually seem to understand what a corset actually entails so they make their's all tight and ill-fitted." Of course she was going to talk. "But I wear corsets everyday, you know! They're fantastic for support as well as creating a nearly perfect decolletage." A wink was passed to Amphi before a discreet cough was given, one to indicate that she should adjust anything before the witch began to lace her up. After that, Belladonna was rather quick with the whole thing. It did help that she really did wear corsets everyday...

With the task accomplished she beamed at the ghoul, happy to have been of some help.
"All better!" Once more Amphi's hand was taken and the witch turned momentarily soft. "And if you need anything else, anything at all, just let me know." Not wanting to turn the moment unnecessarily sappy, Belladonna hurried them out from the booths and caught sight of Yaya and Junko. Perfect!
"Ah! There you both are! Let's go have some fun!"

Brenley seemed to be storing his lembas away, too. It was ... likely for the best. After that fiasco, Serafina didn't exactly want to be eating the stuff personally herself. Seeing someone else vomit was certainly enough of an answer on the taste for her. Of course, she was interested in knowing what was in it that made it so utterly vile to them. Maybe when she got back to Halloween, she'd go peak into one of the creepistry labs and see if she couldn't come up with some kind of explanation for it...

Was she alright? That was a good question, though despite that spectacular display of how Jack awful human food was, Ruth seemed perfectly alright and was waving them off. Well, alright... If she was certain, anyway.

Serafina backed off a bit to let the other ghoul get back on her own two feet again, watching cautiously as the ghoul seemed to become rather determined. Maybe she would be alright after all? Willpower could get people through a lot of things--

Or not.

Serafina winced.

Well, at least she had managed to miss where she had just wretched.

Serafina bent down a bit, offering a hand to the other ghoul. "Would you like some help?" It seemed like Ruth had wanted to maintain some of her pride, but at this point, it seemed like the poor girl wasn't going to get to her own two feet without some assistance. Perhaps she would be able to do more if she actually knew anything at all about first aid ...

Speakers blare out music in the distance, and passing by, you hear that The Bard is going to make an appearance. You have no idea who this is, but do recall Rengath’s advice. A passing human even says they can’t wait for this year’s story. Following the growing crowd you arrive at a natural amphitheater, rocky hillside letting voices carry through the din of human cacophony. As you near, you see a woman dressed similarly to Rengath with the ears bit. You can’t tell if he has anything to do with it.

IF YOU SAW RENGATH TALKING TO THE MAN FROM BEFORE
The same man Rangath was talking to before is standing on the side of the stage, seeming a bit angry, yet ready to go on stage.

“Amity Forestry Students, come here please.” A tall arm in the throng of people, Rengath’s voice is at least recognizable. As you and the other students gather while the show prepares, elf!Rengath rubs the bridge of his nose before motioning to the stage. “Today, you will witness a human theater production. With a few very special guests. I want you to pay very close attention to the actors, as some may not be all who they appear to be.” A small smirk he waves you towards the grass, motioning for you to sit with your classmates. “I will return after the show, at which point we will take our leave. And please, do behave.” A pointed look to some students.

~~~~~
The show opens with the woman beginning to narrate in a soothing voice, behind her, wind naturally billowing her hair like the ethereal elf she is dressed as. Her voice is calm and disarming, the kind of voice that could lull you to sleep if you wanted. Her eyes seem to sparkle in the sunlight with a warmth the story does not have…..
“A long time ago, there was a fair maiden who lived in Gaul, loyal to her home and family, loved by her neighbors, of modesty and morals, she was a child of exceptional love, nothing more, nothing less. She was not the fairest of the land nor the brightest of her family, hardly knowing more letter than those in her own name. One day however, she ventured into the woods by her home, a simple trip, one that she and her sisters had made many times before. Yet in the woods this day there were no deer, no hare in the brush. The sound of hooves only, of armor and thick black smoke from peat fires, the sound of men.” The woman shook her head, sadness filling her voice if only lightly.
“For this maiden was not of men, but of the elves, the race of purity, of light and love. A race of laughter. She was an innocent, and as the men came into the woods that separated the veil of our worlds she was taken, bound in iron chains and dragged to the land of mortals, a land of violence and greed. There she was no longer a maiden, there she was loved, there, is where she died.” Behind the speaker all the while the scenes played out. The woman dressed as an elf, the men on stick horses riding in. Fake scenery, dramatic lighting in the shade of the outcropping and trees. It was… rustic in a way. It had it’s own charm.
“How long had the elves lived in peace, how long they had remained when so many of their kin had left this world for their promised land? The people whispered of magic, of their immortality, yet the race of light and love was a secretive lot, and they were unknown, enemies for the sake of never joining the world of men. Feared for what they were, not who they were of what they had done. The maiden was just a drop in a bucket. A catalyst upon countless others that spurred the king of the elves to act.” At this the man who’d been off stage came forward, the supposed ‘king of elves’.
“He was old in heart and mind, yet youthful in truth for his kind. His rage burned a hole in his heart as his people were torn from him. So, it was by his order that the elves would go to the world of men, strip it of all it’s magics, and leave, never to return to those who might have been called friend, once upon another lifetime.” Men and women dressed in leather armor, leaf and flowers woven into their hair, bows and battle axes in hand- not this was getting interesting! The men from the abduction before joined them on stage, where-
A scream, and they battle broke out, red blood splattering on the ground, screams coming from some in the audience and the ‘actors’ began to writhe in pain before being dragged off by the victors- the elves.
FEAR had begun to flicker in the audience, and horror filled the faces of the ‘men’ who many could see off stage being beated. This was FEAR you tasted in the air. Real, fresh, FEAR.
“The battles were bloody, the magics of men stolen they faced a foe they could not fight. The Elves carried out their king’s wish. They gathered the remnants of another era, and took them. Joining the rest of their kind in a world beyond.” The woman’s voice was calm as ever. “Yet a few remained.”
This is where the professor made his appearance, half hidden by shadows, an actor walked by only to be stabbed in the back before the teacher strode across the stage, exiting with a flourish.
“Shadows, they kept watch over the domain of men. Trapped yet free. They would never forgive the betrayal of mankind, and in turn their hearts twisted, the light faded from their eyes, and no more were they filled with love. They acted in silence, never involving themselves with the affairs of men, only with the magics they created and recovered, stealing back for the sake of their people. Even today they act, choking the life out of those who dare try to enter into the world beyond their own, who seek what was lost. For to the elves mankind had betrayed them. They turned their backs to the creations of light, and for this, man must live in shadows, just as they must live in a world not their own. This is how we have lost what we once had, and how it might never return.”
Standing, the woman seemed to glitter, a brief flash of light from the gems on her dress blinding you… only so see her gone, a simple silver tiara where she had once been.
The FEAR had begun to ebb, as the humans began to cheer, for whatever reason, they seemed to enjoy the fright of the battle, the tone of the past. The actors, many of the ‘men’ covered in fake blood walk up on stage to the cheers, bowing. The elves next, Rengath among them. The maiden, the king next, last the narrator. All cheered for. Though many actors have begun to greet their audience, The King and the Narrator seem to vanish as Rengath appears behind you and the other students quickly after.
“Class…. Let us return to our world.” He seems almost pleased with himself. But then again... he is a theater teacher.
The OOC
Students are now returning to the portal in the woods. Rengath is free to answer questions and is in a good mood. Meaning he just might divulge some interesting information about today's activities, or better, today's performance.
You are brought to the edge of the woods when Rengath smiles. motioning you to gather around. He grins wider. "Well, before we continue... I'd need a couple of volunteers." He motions to the crowd. "You will have a chance to try your hand at.. on site scaring."
He seems serious. "Obviously, you can't hurt, but I'd like to provide an opportunity for some of you, and, test you. See what you come up with. Bare in mind that you will have extra homework to provide and failure to do so will have.. consequences. Just a short shock scare, nothing big. You'll be seen for.. 15 seconds at most. Now... who is willing to try their hand with it?"
OOC
THIS IS AN OPEN OPPORTUNITY TO SCARE HUMANS!
Rengath will be picking 3 (or more) students to directly scare the humans. I will not be rolling who is chosen. I will be picking them based on IC reasoning. IE a third year will have favor but if they have a record and a first year doesn't the first year gets it etc etc. When chosen I will PM you prompts as I post the next 'stage'. You will have 12 hours to respond to the prompts. Failure to do so and You're passed over, the stage moves on.
I WILL BE PICKING IN 12 HOURS OF THIS POST.
Ruth found herself helped up by her companions as the announcement to watch came on. She was still feeling the after effects of the lembas and wasn't the most... appreciative of audiences. Even with the brief influx of fresh FEAR, all the reaper could manage was somewhat sarcastic clapping. With little to no regard to Serafina's personal space, Ruth practically draped herself on the other ghoul while trying to keep a firm grip on Bren's arm.
What? She needed a support system. Literally. Though seeing either strut their stuff at scaring was a promising prospect at fun. So she tried to raise both Bren and Serafina's hands together with her own.
During the theater thing, Andrew just followed along going through the motions. He sat and watched the fear level’s rise and fall, much like Jurassic Park. To be honest watching a play, even one with their teacher in it was a little boring. His eyes hit that moment of glazed over that could only be attained by being dragged to more than a few plays. He managed to not fall asleep, but only because the humans were more interesting to watch. They really did seem to like to scare themselves. There was no popcorn to throw so he decided to behave… and play with the candle in his hands. He left after with the teacher and the rest of the group.
Oh? They get to scare? Andrew wanted to give it a shot… but Olivia was here and all he had was fire, that just would not do. Maple had been really quiet and bookish. Hum, it would be to see what she really could do, besides they had the teacher as back up.
Maple wants to try.” He volunteered the ghoul with a small grin, knowing she probably would not volunteer herself.
Maple hadn't been sure of where else to go after they finished with the candle making but their next destination seemed to have been decided when they were called over by their teacher. The ghoul found herself sticking close to Andrew, as to not get lost, and wondered what they would be witnessing as they were ushered to a very rustic looking outdoor theater.
She sat and watched as the story unfolded, following the players with their simple props, the lights and their dramatics. It wasn't the most invigorating story but it still held her attention and something about a battle was actually pretty interesting. This couldn't be apart of their history, could it? Maple had never run into any books that told tales of elves or... whatever those were in the human world. Unless, they had died away with time. It sounded a little familiar though. (She was impressed with her teacher though, having the nerves to perform on stage, something she could never do).
When the female vanished, she blinked. Magic? She wasn't sure, and had no time to ponder it as she joined in with the others and clapped lightly for the performance, noticing finally that there was a feeling of dissipating FEAR in the air. Had the humans been producing it from such a story? Curious.
Following the others, Maple got from her seat and went after Andrew. and then regretted it. Her mouth hung open and she gave a small sound of surprise and horror. He was volunteering her?! That a**! But in her state, Maple made no sound to refute his claim.
Marosa glanced at Rengath, clearing his throat as he stepped forward. "Oi'd like tae try, but oi'm not sure oi'd be the right material. Oi kin get others tae fall in love with me, but 15 seconds... for me... oi dinnae have any other ideas than that." He shrugged. He was still learning, but the faerie really had no clue how to scare people.
"Oi guess oi'm a lover, not a fighter," He said, sighing as he stepped back, rolling a shoulder back. Marosa was more than willing to try, and his eyes were hopeful. He was just at a loss.
The faerie did enjoy the show, however, and found himself almost wanting to come back. He wished Sharra could have enjoyed it with him.
Walking up and clamping a gentle hand on Maple's shoulder, Marosa turned to Andrew, frowning. "Ye should nae volunteer those who aren't willing." It was as close to a chide as Marosa dared to go. He'd met the fire demon and actually liked being around him, which made him give the other a stern face all the more.
Etzer was practically jumping up and down, approaching Rengath with eager anticipation. He then stopped and recollected himself, attempting to salvage the situation.
"I believe I can provide a hand in this." He tugged on a glove as he glanced past the group, eyes eager. "I can possibly wow them with the way I speak, and perhaps goad them a bit, then... reveal the more... demonic side of me." The frost demon gave a slow smile, his eyes shifting back to Rengath as he waited for an answer.
He completely ignored Andrew. That boil wasn't even worth his time.
Sadly, Molan didn't have much more of an idea what they were doing. He figured it was a bizarre form of fighting, and well... human studies weren't something he delved into that much. Not beyond the basic uses of scaring, and methods of how to do so. A requirement for every good halloweener, but until he chose a path he didn't feel a need to specialize beyond it. Which was why, alas, he didn't know much of jousting. Thus Olivia got a shrug. "Silly competition." He offered before musing over if there was more than a basic explanation to offer about the candle booth.
Not. Really.
"Made a candle." He stated simply before lifting his head at the sound of something about a story. Right they were told to go watch that. So off the two went to watch and along the path. And then sitting with the group, watching, enjoying the high of humans finding ways to scare themselves(weird habits much), an then being ushered off as the teacher requested volunteers. He wasn't particularly up for dealing with whatever the teacher planned to do. Sadly, he didn't have much of a chance to realize his brother was literally jumping at the chance to be a part of it. So he merely gave him a look and sighed a bit before shrugging. He wasn't going to be a part of it.
----------------------
Simply had, by some small miracle, found her way back. Jack only knew how. It was another miracle she hadn't wandered on stage during the show. Perhaps because she hadn't been able to climb over the other students.
None of that mattered now. None of it. Because the teacher had said a magical word and by all that was scary in the world she wanted a part of it. Scaring. Humans. Yes. Yes she wanted to try it she could do it sh- "ME ME ME PICK ME!" She was bouncing up and down as she scrambled forward toward the teacher happily. Oh yes the ghoul wasn't everything to do with this whole plan.
Whatever it was.
The bit about homework had been completely lost on her, just the thought of doing something fun was going on in the ghouls head as she bounced about and flailed her arms. Because that would honestly get him to pick her in the groups. Still, she grinned rather happily and nodded a bit before making with a 'grr' face. "I can scare em better than anyone!"
Nahm had been far more interested in the Fear drifting off the humans in the audience than in the little performance. Human food was unimpressive or unpleasant, good as it smelled, and it made no dent in the perpetual hunger. Fear, though, real, fresh, immediate human Fear, that was a different matter. Now Rengath was offering them the chance to do some individual scaring, and Nahm's teeth chattered involuntarily in hunting reflex.
He stepped up, raising his hand. "Sir," he said, "I could easily get close to a human in this costume, then give them a look under the hood." Even on a human face, his grin was a little too wide and seemed to contain more teeth than it should. "Humans are scared of getting eaten."
Junko had been quietly following everyone along to the forest when Rengath, in a very good mood, called for volunteers to actually scare humans. She gasped and immediate raised her hand. "Oh! West watched. He listened. He felt the humans' FEAR in the air around him as the ones on stage told their (admittedly weird) tale of war and death. He wondered what they needed Halloween for if they were so happy to frighten each other, but that thought didn't last long. They might have wanted to emulate what his people did, but they clearly weren't very good at it. Anyway, they'd had Rengath to help. The boil waved his hand in the air and dropped it just as quickly.
"I'll do it," he said in one of the spaces between his classmates' replies. He'd managed to scare humans just fine before, though they'd mostly been children and teenagers. There were bigger floresce to fry.
He looked at Levi and the others, flicking his gaze from them to their instructor in a silent question.
Though he had asked if the ghoul was okay, Brenley didn't really know what he would have done had Ruth looked to him for any sort of real comfort. It was odd enough to be leaned on for support, but he was handling it, at least until she raised his hand in the air. Bren sputtered a bit, but in the end he stood straight, his mild surprise hidden by the helmet that wouldn't come off.
"Y...yes, I will try as well. Ruth and I volunteer to make the attempt." He looked to Serafina to see if their being thrust into the spotlight had piqued her interest as well, but the action was mostly futile. ...Helmet.
