"We'll be fine, don't worry," Miyuki nodded in agreement to Iorlas' plan.

There was a small pree sound from under the table, and Miyuki realized there hadn't been any fruit for lunch and obviously the Eevee didn't get anything.

"After this we can head into the market if it's running today and see if there's something for you okay?" she asked it.

If not she would just head straight to the castle and for the Pokemon food she knew was in a bag somewhere. Though she would like to save that for emergencies.

"It was good to see you all, and I hope you'll come again soon," Soronume bid them farewell and headed to the main room.

Iorlas looked at Miyuki. "Daeron and I are finished, so we can go when you're ready," she told Miyuki.

"And if you want, I can find some fruit for your Eevee," Daeron offered. "I know my way around here pretty well, and I'll just let Ninako know when we leave that we took some. She won't mind."

Miyuki swallowed some of the last bites of her food and nodded as she did so. She waited until she was sure her mouth was empty before replying.

"I'd like that a lot, thanks,"
she smiled and looked down at the Eevee, "So we'll grab your food before we go."

The Eevee chirped happily at her and bounced around.

Daeron pushed back his chair and headed to the kitchen. "Be right back," he called over his shoulder.

Iorlas watched the Eevee while Daeron was gone. It was a very cute animal, but its cuteness wasn't what she was thinking about.

"You know," she murmured softly, "I can't help but think ... that the Eevee must be more intelligent than we first believed. She's been listening to us speaking High Elven ... and seems to understand it just as well as when you were speaking to her in the Common Tongue earlier."

"Oh! I forgot I was speaking in High Elven...." Miyuki looked sheepish.

But it was true, earlier she had been speaking in Common Tongue. While she wasn't as bad (or good) as Andarien when it came to language switching, once she did, she did tend to forget about it.

"I know you can carry on a conversation with Eevees, Andarien does it all the time with Eon... but it's always been in Common Tongue. Well, Andarien's side is in Common Tongue."

Iorlas giggled softly. "It is easy to forget what tongue one is speaking, isn't it?" she laughed. "But it just means that you know the language well. You were still struggling with it the last time you were here, so I can see that you have been practicing. That's good."

She smiled. "As for Andarien ... well, perhaps you've only heard him speaking with Eon in the Common Tongue. And even if that is the case, that doesn't mean that Eon would not understand him in any other language. If your Eevee understands you, as it appears, then they may have an ability similar to dragons. Though to be fair, Andarien does have a dragon's ability with languages now. He would be able to understand anything."

"Well yes...." Miyuki nodded as she clarified, "I know I've only heard Andarien speak only in Common Tongue, but what I mean is I don't know what other languages he might have spoken. He does have a tendency to switch languages with easier than anyone else."

She hadn't meant that she thought it was only Common Tongue, only that she had only heard him speak in Common Tongue.

"Watching Andarien interact with Eon is how I figured at least the Eevees had the same intelligent understanding as Senka, but I hadn't until now given a thought to languages."

Senka's own ability was something she just took for granted and Senka never spoke in another tongue but understood (she had to after spending so much time with everyone and traveling).

"And I must admit, it's something that I have always taken for granted," Iorlas admitted. "I have never not been able to understand anyone or anything. To me, the idea of not knowing what someone is saying ... it's completely foreign to me. And though Andarien has that experience as a memory, he will never have that again either. And having seen your Eevee respond to you with you speaking both languages ... I somehow wonder if they might have the same ability."

How else would it understand two different languages on the very day that it hatched?

"That's a good point, I wonder if Shiro would know anything about that," Miyuki murmured.

Adding it mentally to her list of questions she was to ask Shiro later.

"I mean... Gaia has trading hubs where people from all over meet and traveling isn't an unusual idea and a lot of languages get thrown around so someone must have noticed if that's the case."

Iorlas spread her hands helplessly. "I'm afraid I would not be able to comment on either of those," she said apologetically. "I wouldn't know. I'm afraid I still don't know Shiro very well, and I know nothing of your world beyond what I have been told ... which is very little."

She looked up as she heard Daeron return. He had a plate in his hands, and on it a small variety of food: a sliced apple, some grapes, strawberries, raspberries, and a small slice of watermelon.

"It's all I could find that they could spare," he said apologetically, passing the plate over to Miyuki. "I hope that's enough."

He didn't know how much the Eevee would need; but he suspected that, since it had just hatched, it wouldn't need too much.

"I think it will be," Miyuki murmured.

Since she was finished her meal (as was everyone else), she picked up her Eevee and fed her the fruit herself.

"Here, even if it's not enough, it should tie you over until dinner."

She was sure there would be something in the castle's kitchen. While she was feeding the Eevee she spoke to Iorlas.

"I think you'd like Shiro, Shiro has a perfect memory, so anything he reads, he remembers, so he knows a lot of things, which is why I thought of Shiro first as a person to ask."

"That makes sense," Iorlas nodded. "Perhaps I should look for him after dinner. He does sound interesting."

Of course, half the reason she didn't know him well, despite traveling with him for most of a year, was that he was always reading or working on something. He just didn't open himself up to conversation.

Miyuki nodded at this, "You should! He's really nice, and even if he's doing something don't be afraid to drop by and say hello because it's true he works too much. He pretty much makes work for himself, and while I do like having his help.... if he said no to me, I'd understand."

Really, she would, because he was always working.

Iorlas smiled. "I'll keep that in mind. Thank you."

Daeron chuckled softly. "Miyuki, you put it too kindly. He's worse than Father for being a workaholic. He goes out of his way to make more work for himself. Every time I see him he's volunteered to do something else again."

"Does he not need to rest?" Iorlas asked, a bit alarmed. "No one should push themselves that hard ..."

"Oh he rests, it's just during all his waking hours he's always doing something," Miyuki explained to Iorlas.

Though she supposed when she put it that way it didn't sound so reassuring.

"Sometimes, it's because he can't say no, but other times it's because something interests him so."
