Vietnam made sure to keep her hands stady as she carried her rifle to the boundaries of the school's campus. She knew that technically they weren't allowed to bring weaponry and such on campus, but she was thankful not to have listened to the administration and brought her own 'tools of the trade' for her to fight with, especially since there's been a lot of monster attacks and weird things happening lately. She she turned on the heel of her boot, she then positioned herself with her back to the school, her dark eyes adjusting so she could see into the shadows better. She couldn't help but think about Vash and the rest of the party that had gone out to rescue Lili, even Ludwig since he seemed to be sicker than she was. Coughing softly, Thien flipped her long hair over her shoulder so it wouldn't get in the way if she needed to act quickly.

Florida had woken up in many strange places and in many strange positions before--and frequently with little recollection of the past 24 hours--but this was easily one of the top worst situations. He was still wearing his angel costume from the night before. Yes, even the wings and shackles, which was the main cause of his misery. The state sighed as he hung uselessly from where he had woken up lodged in a tree.

Yes, a tree. He had no idea how it was even possible for him to be so horribly tangled in its branches. From the way the chain was wrapped around the branch above him one would think he had been purposely hung up there, but who would have the strength to throw him like that? Did someone unlock the cuffs then sling the chain around the thick branch? Whoever it was, they must have been pretty darn drunk or misguided. Rutilio frowned unhappily at how his wrists were trapped over his head. If he could somehow squirm out of the wing straps then maybe he could climb the branches to freedom, but the wings were snagged among other branches which no amount of wriggling could dislodge them from. So there he hung with his wrists and torso immobilized by his costume's poor encounter with a tree.

The Floridian wasn't sure if he should call for help or not. What if someone decided to take advantage of the situation by tweeting pictures or poking at him? When other students walked by on their way to class, Rutilio decided to keep his mouth shut and watched sadly. Oh, well. Surely the branch would snap eventually... right?

The Californian ran all the way down from the dorms to the school gates, pausing only then to catch his breath, glaring down the road as if it was to blame for his lateness as the breeze ruffled his golden hair. From his room, the campus didn't at all look that far, so every so often, he would find himself late to some class or another because of some misjudgment of time. Landon checked his watch--it was barely five minutes until lunch started--and huffed in exasperation. If third period was going to be ending that soon, why bother rushing to make it there? The benefit of a small self-made snack from Home Economics did not outweigh the lack of lines he would encounter if he were to head to the cafeteria now. Sometimes, disappearing rather than showing up ludicrously late to class was just better--or so he maintained.

The cafeteria wasn't all that far away from the school gates, so Landon reasoned that he could simply walk leisurely over there and start the line. He followed the edge of the sidewalk for a little while until he became aware of the faint but instantly recognizable clink of metal on metal. The state halted, cocking his head this way and that, trying to figure out where the sound was coming from. This part of the campus emanated natural beauty; something as unnatural as metal would surely be easy to find, especially with the sun waiting conveniently overhead to blind the unfortunate passersby with its reflected light. But there was nothing amiss at or below eye level... Landon spun slowly around as he tried to identify precisely which direction the clinking was coming from. His eyes landed upon a tree and traveled slowly upward to find...

"Florida!" he blurted in astonishment, squinting up at the entangled Sunshine State. Rutilio was strung high up in the tree, hanging by his wrists and well out of easy reach, which in itself was unusual since he didn't remember seeing the other state climbing trees very often before. What should have amazed Landon more was that his old mentor was still wearing his angel costume. Certainly that would have made a hilarious--read, sensational--article in some tabloid magazine, but the Westerner was too fascinated by how he had gotten so entangled so high up in the tree, and how he had stayed that way for so long with nobody noticing, to reach for his camera or phone. Maybe he wasn't the only one who'd had a bizarre dream last night? Unable to resist an amused grin, Landon tried hard to keep his voice deadpan as he shouted, "What did you do last night, fly up there or something?" Then, more serious, "Need any help?"

Florida had almost nodded off to sleep in the tree when he heard his name being shouted. He blinked for a moment as he stared down at none other than Alta California. Then he panicked. Why him of all the people in the world to catch the poor Floridian in such a compromising situation!? Rutilio struggled to keep the panic off his face and cringed as he waited for a camera flash or... something.

Which didn't happen.

Odd.

Florida eyed the amused grin on his little brother's face and blushed a little at being teased about flying. He could not longer hold the silence he had somehow maintained while hiding and released all his drama.

"It is not funny! If you laugh I will never forgive you!" he babbled as he had his little fit. "I have been stuck here all day and have cramps in places I did not know I could get cramps! I am tired and it is cold and it is all stupid Georgia's fault!" It was never a good sign when he failed to call his Peaches by Peaches. How was this Georgia's fault? Florida was fuzzy on the details, but he felt like however he had gotten up there, his suffering was primarily due to the accessories of the angel costume his boyfriend got for him. "When I find him I will string him up from a tree and use that peach muncher as a pinata! See how he likes it!"

"...... and, yes, I would like a little help," he finally admitted sulkily with the sort of pathetic expression a kitten stuck in a tree might give a fireman with a ladder. Which probably was a very accurate comparison to the situation.

Landon’s grin only grew wider as Rutilio related his pitiable story, especially when the older state explicitly ordered him not to laugh. In fact, a small and hastily stifled laugh escaped his mouth at that exact moment; the Westerner attempted to disguise it as a huge and hopefully exasperated-sounding sigh. “Pointing fingers already?” he teased up at his hamstrung companion. “How are you so certain that this is Christian’s fault?” He’d considered using the Georgian’s nickname just to irritate Florida, but the word in that context felt a bit too intimate to him. For one thing, he wasn’t even on that side of the country; for another, the name dredged up unsavory memories of a few nights before… Currently, the Californian was in a rather good mood, and he had no idea why. Maybe it had to do with the crazy not-dream he’d had last night, since he’d escaped a couple battles relatively unscathed? Whatever the cause, he didn’t want to lose that emotion just yet.

Unfortunately for Florida, he had just given California a very good excuse to laugh. The mental image of Christian being strung up like a piñata was irresistibly funny, and Landon doubled over for a minute, simply laughing. What a feisty piñata Christian would make! Piñata and swatters alike had better beware in that situation… Slowly, his mirth subsided and Landon stared up at the tree with a smile. It wasn’t all that tall, especially when compared to the sequoias and redwoods he had back home… He could probably scale a midget like this in ten minutes or less.

Landon decided to test that hypothesis by climbing the tree now. Approaching the base of the tree, he grabbed one of its low-hanging branches and began his ascent. The tree was shorter than he had expected, its bark knobbier yet smoother as well, so the Westerner actually made it up to Rutilio’s unfavorable perch in less time. But the Californian did not immediately move to help disentangle his mentor’s costume and chains from the bramble. Instead, he merely sat next to Florida on the branch and stared at him, smiling contentedly and swinging his legs idly back and forth in an almost childlike manner. “I should get this for my personal album since this is too ridiculous for even the tabloids,” Landon remarked casually, “but I don’t feel like taking any pictures at the moment. You know what I do feel like doing, though?” he asked with a devilish smirk. He had barely given Rutilio pause enough to answer when he began hopping his butt up and down from his perch on the thickest part of their branch, causing the entire limb to shake violently in response. Fortunately for Florida—or perhaps unfortunately, if he was prone to getting ill from such gyrations—his wings were too badly entangled in arboreal junk for him to simply fall out.

Kartlos Beridze
The Republic of Georgia

Sakartvelo

I laughed all my worries away
Just with that, I'm good to go!

Kartlos decided to skip his next classes after Lunch. He couldn't help it, he was bored. He had been hoping for something more exciting in going to this school, but all his classes and classmates were boring. He was beginning to curse even coming here. However, as he approached the school gates to head into town, he couldn't help laughing at the rather amusing sight that greeted him. Although something told him that it would be strange and possibly long story, he asked, "Do I want to know what what is going on here?" And considering the odd positioning of the boy wearing the angel costume suggested he was stuck in the tree, Georgia added, "And would you like some help?" not knowing that that was what Landon was supposed to be doing.

[Out.Of.Character: Just in case y'all missed the memo, I'm treating Kartlos like a new character, because I redid him a bit since I last was here.]

Sr. Romero Valentín
República Bolivariana de Venezuela
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

As the plane glided into the terminal, Romero stretched and yawned. That had been a long flight, not to mention a long and unenviable task supporting Maduro in his campaign. After helping El Comandante’s subordinate maintain his own law—partially by force of presence and occasionally by revealing an inch of Bolivar’s shining sword—the Venezuelan wanted nothing more than to return to his own dorm and rest. Surely he had earned that much after all the work he had been put through—and after all this, he still wasn’t even sure if he liked his successor. When Chavez had first risen to power, Romero had wholeheartedly approved of the socialist practices that would help raise the standard of living for his many poor people. Chavez had been a sort of Robin Hood back then, to use a European reference, but after 14 years of Chavez, ending only by his death, Romero wasn’t so certain. Socialism was fine, but dictatorship was not… and the last thing he wanted was another series of dictators like he and most of the other Americas had had to deal with in the past.

Halfway out to the baggage claim, his phone buzzed. Romero jumped at the sensation. Who could be texting him at this time? Unlocking his phone, he realized that it was... Juliana?! She seemed to want to apologize for missing classes and talk to him at the bar.

Venezuela simply stood there and stared at her text for a long time. After far too many days of seeing no one he knew well on campus, it was immensely heartening to see this text from Brazil. And her text had no typos! She must have recovered her sight on her own somehow. While Romero was slightly disappointed that he wouldn’t have the opportunity to run something through with his sword for her—only to liven up his days, mind you!—he had had plenty to do back home already and was unsure if he would have had stamina enough for such a fight. He wanted to run right back to campus to hear what she had to say, but the airport was some distance away from school. There was no way he could reach her in any short amount of time. For starters, he needed to find his luggage and his car...

It couldn't hurt to text her back, though, after they had both been absent for so long. And so, texting her back, Romero continued on to the rotating carousel and retrieved his many bags. A little while later, he found himself driving on back to Axis High.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of Caracas: For lack of a truly good place to put an airport post, I'm going to put it here.

dragon_fire_313
Juliana! I'd gotten worried when I didn't see you for so long. Si, I can come back for a chat, but it might be a little while since I just got back from a job for my boss. Seems he wanted to help advocate his economic plan, even though the elite are up in arms since it’s nearly identical to El Comandante’s. I don't know exactly when I'll get back, but it will be later today. ~Romero

Ignoring all of Rutilio’s protestations, Landon happily bounced up and down on the branch they were attached to. Perhaps the Californian would have bounced up and down less vigorously if Rutilio had had a weak stomach, but Americans were gastronomically sturdy lot, even if they had originally hailed from other countries. Pausing for a moment, he grinned wickedly down at the older state before whipping out his smartphone and snapping a photo of the embarrassingly garbed Florida, still hanging from the tree by his limbs and entangled wings. “And now I do feel like getting a picture of you!” he answered in reply to the outraged question he knew he would be getting from the older Spaniard in a moment.

A sudden voice from below alerted Landon to the presence of visitors. Quickly tucking his phone away in his pocket, he Westerner looked down to see a blue-black-haired, bespectacled nation peering up at them. Landon flashed him a grin with his Hollywood whites and bounced up and down with his butt on the branch briefly as he hollered down his reply. “Nope, you don’t!” he answered, his elated voice giving off the impression that they had been caught in some intricate inside joke. “But I’ll tell you anyway. We had a slight wardrobe malfunction, but we’re all fine up here, perfectly fine. How are you?” Ignoring the boy altogether, Landon turned around and, scooting closer to his entangled brother, proceeded to actually help free him from the tree. Rutilio’s wings were hopelessly mangled; Landon was glad that they were only minimally supported by wire. The Californian eventually gave up trying to loosen the feathers from the branches and simply tore the most troublesome ones out. “Hold on tight,” he warned as he tore the last few feathers out. That task done, Landon steadied himself on the branch and reached a hand out for the Floridian to hoist himself up with and, once Rutilio was righted, proceeded to lead him back down the tree.

Now that he and Rutilio were safely on the ground, Landon had time to get a better look at the boy who had spoken to him earlier. He had on a white shirt and navy wire-rimmed glasses, and his straight blue-black hair tumbled down his face in a simple mop. “Hey, do I know you from somewhere?” Landon asked brightly. “I coulda sworn we’ve met before. I’m Landon Blackwell Jones, the state of California; and how about you, Four-Eyes?” Holding his hand out to shake, Landon awaited the other nation’s answer.

XD || Still not sure exactly what voice to assign Landon. He's a little higher-pitched than Zack Fair. || Since CA is not exactly an unintentionally forgetful state, I shall allude to the "old" Kartlos here in their "reunion". || Even though it's completely irrelevant, have a shameless temporary self-promo!
