"I know, I love you too." Avery's tail wagged when his head was scratched, and he winced. "Damnit," he laughed a little. "I wish I had more control over my tail sometimes, it keeps wagging even though it hurts."
When they walked into the cafeteria, Avery felt more hungry than he had been before. He walked over to the food, unconsciously licking his lips as he picked out the best smelling meat he could find and placed it on a plate for himself, even though it wasn't as cooked as the rest.
He sat down at the nearest table with a sigh. Although he didn't realize it, his new, sharper canines made it easier to tear into the meat. "Do the changes always make you so hungry afterwords?"

"Sometimes, my guess is they use a lot of those stored up calories when you change. I don't really know though." Timothy shrugged and grabbed some of the shrimp. It was what he ate while he was here. He crunched down on the unpealed shrimp, it didn't really bother him anymore.
"You know, your going to hate me for this, but you look really cute right now. Not that you weren't weren't always dead sexy but now you look hot and cute." Timothy grinned showing his own fangs.
"I wonder why though, that was your 2nd change and you don't have fur all over like I do?"

"Aren't you supposed to peel those first?" Avery asked, peering at Timothy's shrimp curiously. He'd never eaten shrimp before, but he's seen his parents have them.
"Cute!?" he couldn't help but laugh at that, looking down at himself. He certainly didn't feel cute. "I don't know why. It looks kind of weird, too... like I got shaved, but didn't finish the job. I guess everyone's changes are different." He ran his fingers over the fur on the back of his other hand. "I wonder if I could shave it all off."

"Awwww... keep it, it's sort of snuggly." Timothy tried to act cute. "Besides, it makes me feel a little less self-concience anyway." Timothy shrugged and gave a half hearted smile.
He didn't want to admit it, Avery didn't know what he looked like before all this. He hadn't seen him, it's not that Timothy was much to look at, truthfully the fur probably made him cuter. But still, he did worry about it. It was also a pain the butt to shower.
"I mean... I don't mean to be selfish. It will eventually grow in all the way though. That much I'm sure about." Timothy had met or seen other islanders who were even further along than him.

"Alright, I'll keep it... but only 'cause you asked me to," Avery smiled at the other boy. "You have a point, anyway... it'd just grow back when I change again." He still thought it looked strange, but he supposed he'd just have to live with it until he changed again.
"Self-conscience!? Tim, you shouldn't feel that way... I think you're sexy," he smiled. "Even with all the fur. It doesn't bother me at all, even if I have less fur than you."
Anymore, he thought to himself. Of course it had bothered him when he first arrived to the island. But now? Now... he has grown used to it. Even learned to like it. He still wasn't used to his own - even more so since he just grew more of it - but he liked the feel of fur on others, sliding his fingers through it and nuzzling against it.

"I appreciate that Avery. But even before all this I wasn't as good looking as like you or Vasile. I've always been rather boring." Timothy shrugged. He wasn't trying to be all emo on Avery. But it did worry him sometimes
Timothy crunched his shrimp. "I've gotten used to eating things crunchy. It isn't so bad." Timothy popped another one.

"Aw, come on now, you showed me a picture of yourself, remember? You weren't bad," Avery shrugged, starting to feel a little annoyed. It frustrated him when people put themselves down. "Anyway, it doesn't matter now," he said, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture, wanting to change the subject.
"Let's finish up here so we can go back to the duplex, I'm still tired," he said, yawning widely. Being woken up from the nightmare and then transforming wore him out.
When they both finished their food, Avery changed his mind about taking food back with him to the duplex. He would have had to only bring back food that didn't need to be warmed up, and he just wasn't interested in anything but the meat.
He walked back to the duplex with Timothy, leaning on him and again feeling grateful that he had him. "I'm so tired," he mumbled when they finally arrived back at their duplex, and Avery immediately crawled back into bed, and looked at Timothy. "Gonna come back to bed with me?"

"So early?" Timothy started to ask but then he thought for a moment. He'd been through quite the day. "Okay, sure" Timothy decided this probably wasn't the time to try and warm up Avery to anythi else.
Still, he did find Avery's look rather hot. Especially that collar idea. Timothy removed his clothes (he'd gotten used to sleeping nude with Avery after falling asleep after drawn out sessions) and climbed into bed.
"Come here you big puppy dog." Timothy patted the bed.

"Yeah, I know it's early... just a little nap," Avery murmured sleepily. He snuggled up to Timothy as soon as the other boy was in bed, pulling the blankets up over them both. He grinned at being called a puppy dog, and nuzzled Tim's shoulder. "Your puppy dog," he said as he slid his arms around the skunk boy, relaxing and quickly dozing off to sleep.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ RP with Zach. In progress.
Avery Calder Avery had been hiding in his duplex for a few days after his change, not wanting others to see him and generally still feeling sore anyway. Of course, he knew he couldn't hide away forever - and he hated being cooped up for too long, anyway. Even more so now. He decided to head out for a walk and get some fresh air. He reached for his boots, but hesitated, remembering his new claws. Well. He guessed he would just have to go barefoot, then - that's what the new pads on the bottom of his feet for anyway, right? With a sigh, Avery left his duplex, heading towards the general center area of the village. Zachary Bloodstone Zach slid out of his duplex door and into the boiling tropical heat, carefully locking up before he left. He breathed a few times. Nothing. The allergy medicine he'd finally given in to getting from Delia the other day worked as well as the stuff he'd recently run out of. There hadn't been any unpleasant and unwanted side effects either, to his relief. Living on this island was not easing his paranoia.
After descending the stairs he paused. Unlike most days, when he'd simply gone shirtless, he had a thin white shirt on. It had a couple of tears in the back that he'd forced his peculiar wings through. It was going to get completely sweat soaked if he stayed outside too long. To his dismay, he figured out that the places on him that he'd been growing scales, and the arm, tail, and wings that were completely covered, could not sweat. In exchange, his open skin seemed to work overtime to make up for it.
He'd made it halfway across the village when he spotted a very furry someone. If it hadn't been for the blue streaks in the other guy's hair he may not have recognized Avery at all.
Avery Calder Avery's ears perked up when he heard someone behind him, and he turned around - and instantly froze. Oh, s**t. Just the person he wanted to see - the crazy dragon man. Avery felt conflicted - should he run? Would he run fast enough? Surely the doctors wouldn't have let him loose if he was that dangerous, right? And they could just zap him if he tried anything... Avery relaxed - but only slightly. His body still felt a little tense; he was ready to run for it, just in case. It was then he realized he'd just been standing there staring the whole time... he figured he should probably say something now that they both have noticed each other. "Uh... hi." He resisted the urge to call him dragon-breath. No need to provoke him, that's for sure. Zachary Bloodstone Zach didn't know what to say. Even if he had to get used to these changes, seeing the expressions of fear on peoples' faces at the sight of him was haunting. He stared back at the terrified furry Avery with a look that detailed how little he was enjoying the little meeting already. A few alternative courses of action came to mind, but none of them seemed human enough for him to follow through - especially not the odd one that had to do with sticking his ear fins out.
The seconds wore on and he grudgingly had to respond. Even the strong desire to run was fading gradually. He could do this. He just had to make sure there was a nice distance between them, perhaps six feet would work. This was what he got for being turned into an unstable predator, after all.
"Er, hey... it looks like you've... you've changed... I guess..."
Avery Calder "Yeah... just a few days ago, actually. Hurt like a b***h, as usual." Well, this was good. At least there was no biting going on yet. "Looks like you've changed too..." He couldn't help noticing the small wings on Zach's back. Avery had to admit to himself that he almost looked... well, cool. I mean, how many people could say they were a dragon? Then again, it wasn't so fun when it was forced upon you - and when it was painful. "So I heard you nearly killed one of the doctors," he blurted out - and then his eyes widened, raising his hand to cover his mouth. He hadn't meant to say that. Out loud, anyway. Avery wished he didn't have such a big mouth sometimes. Zachary Bloodstone "Ouch. You've got painkillers, right? At least you're staying a mammal... shouldn't be any nasty surprises." As bad as it was to think about, there wasn't a whole lot he could do to avoid thinking about what Amaya had said about all the reptile islanders having a very bald fate. He frowned somewhat. "Yeah... it was a while ago though. No idea when it'll happen again. I'd hope never, but... that's just asking for too much out of life."
Avery's ears looked an awful lot like a dog's. He wasn't about to press for what animal Avery was becoming - in the end, it'd probably be quite clear.
The next comment stung. He felt a sort of heat creep into his face, embarassment at the whole ordeal. How had AVERY found that out? Zach had only told two people, and neither of them had already heard about it. He wanted to believe Kaveri, that it was nothing but a trick, but... either way, this was a pretty harsh rumor. "And, ah... who told you that?"
Avery Calder "Yeah, I got some... they didn't help much, though," Avery frowned. Maybe Dr. Frost didn't give him strong enough medicine? He would just have to ask for a stronger dosage the next time he saw her. His ears pressed back against his head when Zach said he hoped it would never happen again. "I wish it wouldn't happen again, either. It's... scary. And I'm not so sure about there not being any nasty surprises just because I'm a mammal - Awen told me about this guy, Pyroth; he's turning into a canine, too. But it looks like he won't be able to walk on two legs anymore, soon enough..." Avery had been reassured, at least, that Tim wouldn't leave him if that happened - but the thought still terrified him. "Sorry," he mumbled. "I didn't mean to bring that up... Chubbs told me about it." Avery glanced around, as if he might be able to spot the cameras, and he moved in a little closer to Zach, leaning in. "Not that I feel bad for the lab tech, though," he told him quietly. Zachary Bloodstone "Well... you should mostly stop hurting in about a week..." He crossed his arms. "And I suppose you've got a while yet before they do this again... all the people that look really animal-like have been here for almost a year."
"Pyroth? Oh god, he did look halfway to being on four legs the last time I saw him... is that what they have planned for all of us? Just turn us completely into animals?"
"Chubbs?" he asked. He didn't know anyone on the island by that name. At least the embarassment was dying down. "Well... it's just... I don't really want to talk about it..." He was tempted to say he didn't feel a whole lot of remorse himself, but he was probably being watched, and any excuse to kill him would probably work for the doctors. All he could do was give Avery a nervous glance.
Avery Calder "You've seen Pyroth, then? I've never actually met him yet... Do you think they'll really do that to us? At least you're a dragon... so you might end up still able to walk, who knows?" Avery shrugged. Dragons weren't exactly real creatures, but dogs? They definitely walked on all fours. Avery noticed he seemed nervous about the subject, so he decided to drop it. "So... uh... this is an improvement, I think! You haven't tried to attack me yet," he laughed, nervously. Maybe the other times were just flukes? Zachary Bloodstone "Yeah, but it was a really long time ago, had to have been at least a couple of months... maybe they've, uh, fixed the problem or something? I haven't heard of anyone else ending up like that." He shifted uneasily. There wasn't a whole lot you could expect when becoming a fantasy creature. The wings he had guessed, but the everything from the color of his scales to the beginnings of spikes on his back and tail were all a very big surprise. "I... don't know. Right now I'm just not getting near my intercom. You can probably ask, though. I'll just enjoy this whole two-legged existence for as long as I can."
"No, and I never wanted to." He half-closed his eyes. "We both got unlucky. Apparently this whole 'dragon' thing isn't quite as perfect as it was intended to be. Whenever I change..." He shrugged, holding his palms upward. "I'm sure you get the idea. That's been the story with everyone I've met in the days after my changes - even with Dr. Lockheart."
Avery Calder "Yeah... I'll probably just ask, then," Avery said, rubbing his arm. He felt nervous about asking, though - nervous about what the answer would be. He wasn't sure if he would prefer to be surprised or not. "Well, I'm glad it was nothing personal," he offered the dragon man a smile. "Maybe we can start over, then, and be friends?" ... and that was when he noticed Zach had held out two hands, not just one. "Zach... your arm... it grew back!?" Avery certainly didn't remember him having two arms, at least. He noticed it was completely scaled, unlike Zach's other arm. It must have happened the last time he transformed. Zachary Bloodstone "Good luck with that..." he nodded.
"Oh, uh, sure..." he nodded, his expression still somewhat veiled thanks to his eyes. Friends? He just couldn't feel a lot of desire to be around islanders sometimes. Kaveri was probably the only exception to that.
The sudden realization by Avery made him squirm a little inside. "Looks like it, doesn't it?" he frowned, crossing his right arm over the left and feeling scales brush against his diminishing human skin. If he hadn't had an arm there ten years ago, he would not have been able to use this one as well as he was managing now. Certainly he was clumsy with it, but the wings and tail gave him a much harder time. "I'm... not sure if I should be happy about it. The arm thing."
Avery Calder Avery couldn't understand why Zach wasn't more enthusiastic about his arm growing back. Other than the fact that it was covered in scales, that is. Even so, Avery felt that if he were in Zach's place, he would feel that he had at least one thing to be grateful for. "But.. why not? I mean... you have your arm back! I guess it is covered in scales now, but still - you got your arm back. How could that be a bad thing?" Zachary Bloodstone He gritted his sharp teeth together. The thought made so much more sense in his head, where the majority of his logic went unchallenged. His voice faltered a little as he spoke, trying to put words to his thoughts. "Well, it's... you know..." "None of us ever heard of this place before we got here. At least, no one I’ve met so far. And we could have lived our whole lives without ever knowing, just like the five billion people who aren't here with us turning into animals... and plants too. Avery, tell me, would you have done this again? If you'd had a choice, somehow."
Avery Calder "I... I don't know," Avery admitted after giving it some brief thought, his ears flattened back against his head. "I mean, no way in hell do I like being changed into anything. But I've met some amazing people here, I mean really amazing... people who I wouldn't have met if I hadn't come here. I mean, I guess if I never came here, I wouldn't miss what I never had, right? But if I knew what I would find here... I don't know what I would choose, honestly. I'd be losing something either way - but also gaining."

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Billy scares Kikue and Avery.
Yamamoto Kikue Kikue pushed open the door to a room she had never been in before. A tired look was etched onto her face. After glancing around briefly, it became obvious that this was the room that held the DVD's that Colche had mentioned when Kikue had met her on the beach. Kikue felt only mild curiosity to look through the titles and choose something. She didn't usually watch TV or movies. Instead of sifting through the DVD cases for something, she merely relaxed onto the couch in front of the blank television screen. The room was fairly nice, and the TV itself looked expensive. Kikue didn't care much either way. She leaned her head against the back of the couch, staring up at the ceiling with her haggard look on her face. Try as she might these past few days, she simply could not get back on a normal sleeping schedule. She seemed to always wake up too early or too late; succumbing to sleeping through the middle of the day even as she tried to stop herself. She was in that phase now, having tried to stay awake again. She thought of turning the TV on to see some of the world news, if it would even play that. But did the goings on in the world really even matter right now? She was so tired. Avery Calder Avery felt tired. He was still having nightmares - although not all the same ones, they were still bad, and he was losing sleep over them. He hoped maybe watching something to distract himself from thinking about the nightmares would help, so he made his way to the entertainment room. When he opened the door, however, his ears perked up when he saw someone he's never met before sitting alone on the couch. His head tilted curiously when he noticed she appeared to be completely human. Was she new? He made his way over to the couch, tail wagging behind him. "Hello? Hope I'm not intruding or anything," he said, peering down at the girl. Yamamoto Kikue Kikue jumped slightly, startled out of her daze by the entering of someone else into the room. She looked at him, seeing tiredness on his face, too. She forced a smile, noticing the tail wagging behind him. She's never seen this person before, but they looked distinctively like...a dog. "Hello," Kikue said quietly. "No, I'm not doing much of anything, actually." She noticed the different colors of his eyes. "Feel free to watch something." Kikue hesitated before introducing herself; why, she didn't know. It was only polite -- she had never met him before. "I'm Kikue, new here," she added, just barely audible. She didn't feel much like talking, but didn't mind someone else talking to her. If only she could get on the right sleep schedule. Avery Calder "Nice to meet you!" Avery said, smile still on his face. "The name's Avery." Well, she didn't appear to be afraid of his appearance, at least. Then again, Avery didn't think he looked very threatening. "So when did you get here? You... know about this place... right? What it really is?" he questioned, not wanting to have to explain it to her if she didn't, but also not wanting to keep it a secret. His ears were pressed back against his head now, feeling a little nervous. William Woodrow There was a noise at the entrance, and the sound of scuffing rubber edged with a wet, slithering subtle noise. The octopus wasn't quite sure where he was swimming, but he knew he could find a chair. Had to sit. Had to stop the world from spinning with it's neon edged blurred after image burned into his retinas. As soon as he looked, everything was still, but when he looked away, the world fell away.
Billy had gone back to his rock after his meeting with Frost- but he hadn't taken his pills. He was thinking. He let a day go by, and he hadn't taken any vicodin. Then he took a couple of Frost's pills. The next day he had taken more. Today he was at four. Yamamoto Kikue Kikue had only started to answer Avery's question. "Yes, I know about i--," She stopped there, hearing the sounds of approach, but had no idea in the world what could make that sound. She saw a man, ringed by tentacles coming from his own body, coming in through the door of the room. Shocked, her voice simply disappeared, and she stared, knowing all the while it wasn't polite but not being able to help it. This was the first time she had really seen someone with a serum that was, as they all called it, 'unlucky.' What is he...squid? No. She was too familiar with sea creatures, mainly because they were a common food in Japan, to think so. Octopus. Has to be... Gods.Kikue didn't move. She couldn't. Her eyes flicked to Avery for a moment, and then back to the man entering. She was definitely more awake now, even though the fatigue still hung around her mind. Avery Calder Avery's ears flicked toward the doorway before he turned his head to look, wondering what the sound was. His eyes widened when he saw the octopus man. Of course, he knew exactly who it was, but the sight of him was still... disturbing to Avery. He glanced at the new girl. He was sure the sight of him must be pretty scary. But Billy was... mostly harmless, in his mind. "It's okay," he said to her, attempting to sound reassuring, but it was obvious he was uncomfortable, too. "That's Billy." Then he looked at the other man. "Er... hey there," he greeted him, but his tail wasn't wagging anymore. He didn't notice anything was really off with Billy quite yet. William Woodrow Shadows were speaking to him, stretching upward over the walls, and he felt his tentacles flail outward to catch himself on the air, but managed to catch himself on his crutches instead in a clumsy stumble. Voices were talking, saying his name. Billybillyboy-o c'mere. A woman, a woman in purple with black hair. Still for a moment as he staired, purple eyes wide and glassy, untill he heard the second shadow speak. Yellow yellow all over, it was a dog, it was a beast, it was a man, it was a monster, twisting and groping and warbling in the air, "I don' wan' any," He managed in a shaking voice, stopping dead in his tracks. Yamamoto Kikue Kikue noticed Billy's disorientation immediately, having lived with her father and his drinking ever since they had moved to Tokyo. She had become very good at noticing when something was wrong. She stood up slowly, looking at Avery. Billy. His name was Billy. "I think something's wrong," she said quickly, her gaze flicking back to Billy's writhing tentacles and his glazed eyes. She wasn't even sure who he was talking to, and that was definitely a bad sign. Knowing that he wouldn't recognize her, Kikue was hesitant to try and talk to him to see if she could help. She didn't want to startle him when he was like this. The sight of the man still stunned her, but the overwhelming feeling that he was clearly not all there overrode the fear. Kikue glanced back at Avery, her expression set but worried. This situation was all too familiar...except of course that this man was half octopus. Gods.Avery Calder Avery frowned, glancing at Kikue. "Wrong..?" he peered more closely at Billy. He did seem to be acting strange. He took a small step close to Billy when he stumbled, but he stopped, not going any closer. No telling what he would do if there really was something wrong with the other man. "You don't want any of what, Billy?" he asked, confused. What was he talking about? Avery had no idea what to do, he thought for a moment about leaving, but he didn't want to leave the new girl alone... and Billy was in the way of the door, too. He was starting to feel a little trapped. William Woodrow Billy Billy Billy what's wrong what's wrong Billy? The yellow monster was barking at him, snarling and twisting but when Billy looked away and the world he couldn't see dissolved around him, there was no monster anymore. Just the black haired girl in the funny purple bathrobe.
He had staggered all the way there from his perch at the lake, drawn on some sort of instinct to hone in for food, but after such a long walk, his brain had latched down on a crashing place. Couldn't go back to his duplex. That's what the man wanted. Billy didn't care. He'd show him he didn't care.
His tentacles coiled and uncoiled around his bare legs, the top set from his chest reaching out like arms for something to catch himself on, "Feckin'... chairs..." He managed. Yamamoto Kikue Kikue watched Billy stumble, leaning over as if he were reaching for something. She had no idea what, except that he was on a course for the couch. Quickly making more room for him by backing up against Avery, she watched Billy's rambling mouth and the distant look in his eyes. She couldn't smell alcohol, but something was definitely wrong. "Is he usually like this?" she whispered urgently to Avery. Kikue had no idea how to help him. She wasn't even sure that this spell wasn't from the serum somehow. Should I say we should call the labs? ...No. That might only make it worse.Remembering how her father was during his drinking spells, Kikue silently watched Billy's tentacled hands reaching for the couch. Silence might be best. Avery Calder "I don't... think so," Avery replied as he watched Billy, feeling unsure if he should help him or let him be. "I mean, I don't see him around much... he seemed fairly normal when I did see him, though. Not like this, anyway..." He moved around Kikue, taking a few hesitant steps toward Billy. He reached out slowly to put a hand on Billy's shoulder to help steady him, as he appeared to be a little unbalanced. "Hey, man, you okay? Do you need any help?" William Woodrow At the sudden touch, Billy flinched, nightmare pills surging through his system at full throttle now, sloshing about inside, poisoning his waking conciousness at the higher dosage still. The yellow monster was on him! Grabbing him! Gonna' get him! Bill jerked up, eyes wide and locked on Avery's face as he gave a strangled cry, gagging as ink erupted form his mouth, flowing down his chin and front to splatter between them. Yamamoto Kikue Gasping, Kikue backed a few more paces as she stared wide-eyed at Billy's puddle of black vomit on the floor. She had no idea what it was, only that normally it shouldn't be that color. It was too dark for blood, but she still had to struggle to keep herself from reacting instinctively. She shot a quick glance at Avery, not knowing if this black inky liquid wasn't some kind of poisonous defensive mechanism. Do octopi even have those?Billy needed help. Kikue tried to keep her face set when looking at him, but she was more than worried. He was reacting badly to their presence; this could be beyond her control. At home, she usually shut herself up when her father had started doing something like this. Should she just walk away now? How can I walk away? Something is clearly wrong with him --But maybe being there, someone he didn't know, was only making it worse. Yet he had reacted badly to Avery and supposedly knew him. "Avery," Kikue got out in a low voice, trying not to speak too loudly lest it trigger something in Billy, "should I leave? Should we call anyone about this?" What is that puddle on the floor, all down his front? Maybe I should just leave and call someone about this...Avery Calder "Holy s**t!" Avery gasped, jerking back quickly and stumbling backwards, nearly tripping over his own feet in his haste to get away. "What the hell was that!?" He gasped, staring wide eyed at Billy. Was he sick? What the hell was that stuff!? "I... I don't know what to do," he sounded a little panicked, clearly scared by Billy. He wanted to get the hell out of there, he didn't want to have anything to do with this... whatever was going on. He didn't know. "There are cameras... the doctors would have seen... so..." If Billy was really ill, the doctors would come get him, right? William Woodrow The monster backed away and the octopus kicked his feet to try to swim away, mearly managing to land sprawled on the floor in a clatter of limbs and crutches, tentacles flailing as though to try to swim away, ink still dribbling from his mouth as he coughed and gagged, trying to spit it out, "AWAY FROM ME! AWAY FECKIN' STAY BACK!!" Yamamoto Kikue Instinct kicked in immediately. Kikue's survival skills at home with her father only furthered the need to get out of here. Backing away from Billy, Kikue shot a look at Avery. "Let's go," she said urgently under her breath. "Let's get out of here. If something's wrong they'll come." Billy wanted them to get away from him, and Kikue was only too happy to obliage. Side-stepping the puddle of blank inky fluid on the floor, she made fast for the door. Pulling it open, she slipped quickly outside, making for her duplex. Number 48. Shooting a look over her shoulder, she nodded at her duplex once Avery was out so he might know where she lived, and then she didn't look back. Pushing the key into the lock, she opened the door only to close it and lock it tightly behind her. This is insane.Avery Calder Avery had to agree with Kikue, especially when Billy started to scream at them. What the hell was wrong with him? What had happened!? He didn't stick around to find out. He quickly turned and ran out of the room, not pausing to look back once. He felt a little guilty just leaving Billy there... but what could he do? Nothing, he thought to himself. I couldn't do anything. The doctors would help him. It wasn't Avery's job. He saw the new girl run into her own duplex, and he felt that was a good idea. He rain straight to his own duplex, slamming the door shut hard behind him. He leaned back against it, panting. Why couldn't anything just be normal around here!? William Woodrow And Billy lay on the floor, limbs curling up against his chest as he sat in the puddle of his own ink, hyperventilating as he waited for the monsters to go away. The had left, but their shadows still remained, snapping at him, clawing at his skin, digging it's nails deep down as though to pull what human bones remained in his limbs and pull them out. But painless, painless, just his eyes, just the world spinning. Falling apart bit by bit untill blackness took a hold of him and he fell into his own nightmares.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Cassidy meets the boyfriend.
Cassidy Smith Cassidy was stretched out on the sofa, just a length of tail all over the cushions, nose buried in a book. It was one of her own, but she'd needed a change of scenery from her duplex or her favourite trees, and this seemed as good a place as any. Even if last time she'd run into Vasile. Well, that wasn't so bad. Avery Calder Avery walked with Timothy towards the entertainment room, wanting to see if he could get Tim to play some multi-player video games with him. He was getting tired of playing them by himself, and Avery had decided today seemed like a nice day to snuggle up in front of the TV for some game playing with his boyfriend. He grinned at Timothy, tail wagging behind him as he pushed open the door - and stopped suddenly in his tracks when he saw the snake woman lounging on the couch. It took him a moment to realize who it was, and then relaxed. "Hey, Cass!" he greeted happily, trying to hide the fact that she had startled him just a moment before. Timothy Matthews Timothy tagged along with a decent smile across his face. He didn't mind being dragged out by Avery lately. But he'd never been the video gaming type. Well not since he was younger.
He'd given up video games when he'd gotten into music. Hadn't had time, but now well it didn't matter so much. He snuggled with Avery during the walk when he noticed Cassidy.
"Ummm...oh..." Timothy shrugged and waved. He didn't know this person but she was defintly odd. He looked at the feathers that went down the arms. He noticed Avery greeting her as 'Cass' and didn't want to be rude. "I'm Timothy." He offered his hand as a gesture of greeting. Cassidy Smith Cass peered up, and guiltily squished herself up the couch to take up a little less space. It would seem that this was not a good place to read without being interrupted. "Er. Hi Avery." She smiled faintly and set her bookmark in between the pages and the book on what could be called her lap. She stretched over to shake Timothy's hand. He looked almost skunky... well, there were stranger animals to be turned into. "Nice to meet you. I'm Cassidy." He was taking it refreshingly well! This was good, especially if he really was a skunk. Avery Calder "Errr, sorry, didn't mean to interrupt," Avery said when he noticed her book - although he didn't give her a chance to say if they had been interrupting or not, and sat down on the couch once she had made room. He looked a little surprised when Timothy and Cass greeted each other. "So you guys haven't met before? It seemed like you both have been here for a while and all..." But when he thought about it, Avery was meeting new people all the time - changed and not. Timothy Matthews "Nope... but when I got here I was kind of... reclusive." Timothy really still was, except around Avery. "That was before meeting you and all." Timothy turned back to Cassidy a sly smirk on his face.
"Hey Cassidy..." Timothy said in greeting, but finding himself interested in Avery's statement. "How long have you been here? If it's okay to ask?" Cassidy Smith "I can be pretty reclusive, too," Cass admitted. "I'm sure there's lots of people I haven't met." She folded her hands on her book, attempting to look non-threatening. She took in Timothy's glance to Avery without comment. Hadn't Avery mentioned, with surprising openness, being bisexual...? Were they...? Uh, wow. "I guess I've been here about ten months." Her forehead creased slightly. "Which I think is almost as long as anyone has been around. I could be wrong, though. Too long, anyway." Avery Calder Ten months... Avery chewed on his lower lip a little as he thought. He knew he hasn't been here nearly that long, but... he wasn't sure exactly how long he actually has been here. It felt like he had no sense of time sometimes; if it weren't for the clocks, he would be really lost. What day was today? Wednesday? Saturday? What month was it? He had no idea anymore - he wished Dr. Frost would give him the calendar she promised soon. "That's a pretty damn long time... I haven't been really keeping track of how long I've been here. I have no idea," he shrugged. "Guess it doesn't really matter though." Timothy Matthews "About nine myself... I think. Small island for us not to have met each other by now though. Avery's right." He shrugged and gave a smile. He leaned up against the couch.
"I really hope we aren't impossing too much." he shrugged getting nervous again. "We could leave." he wanted to be nice. But he had to admit himself that Cassidy's appearance was bizarre. The worst thing he'd had to deal with was Joliette with a few scales. Cassidy Smith Cassidy looked surprised. "That long? Wow. I guess I really do need to get out more." She shook her head. "I think I might've been keeping better track that some people. But I have to know..." She looked up abruptly. "You're not imposing. It's a public room. I wasn't doing much." She shrugged. "Although I can leave if I make you nervous, because hell, I make myself nervous. I mean, I can read anywhere. It's okay. Really, it is." Avery Calder "Nah, you can stay if you want! Hey, maybe you could even join us? We were going to play some video games - I'm sure they've got a three player game around here somewhere we could play." Avery glanced up at Timothy and smiled, leaning his head against him a bit. "Or we could do something else. Like... um... a movie?" he suggested. Timothy Matthews "No, you don't make me nervous. The feathers are pretty..." Timothy felt dumb as soon as he said it. Atleast he'd tried to make it a compliment. "I'm up for anything but... just nothing sappy." Timothy looked around the room his eyes dwindling over the Guitar Freaks game. It wasn't three player, but it looked neat to him. Of course, he wasn't going to make the decision. Plus he didn't want to exclude their new friend. Cassidy Smith "Either's okay by me. Although I suspect most of the three-player games are going to be, um. You know, first person shooters." Cassidy laughed a little. "I don't know about you, but I'm not very good at those." She smiled rather shyly at Timothy. Any sort of compliment was definitely appreciated these days. "I guess I hadn't thought of them that way, but thank you." Avery Calder "Oh, yeah, that's a good point," Avery said, wrinkling his nose. He didn't like first person shooters. "I suck at those too. Well movie it is then!" He stood up off the couch and went over to the shelves, looking over the DVDs. "Er... what kind of movie do you guys like? I'm not really in the mood for sappy, either." He had noticed that Timothy was eyeing the Guitar Freaks game, but he knew it wasn't multi-player. He would just come here with Tim later so they could play it. Timothy Matthews Timothy reached and grabbed Kinsey off the shelf. "It's got Liam Niesan? You know... Qui Gon Jinn guy." he shrugged. He hadn't seen it, it looked interesting though and the cover mentioned talking about sex. "What do you think guys?" Timothy held the movie up for them both to see. He read the back while they looked it over. Cassidy Smith "Well, I like Liam Neeson," Cass said doubtfully. Qui Gon had only been just about the best part of The Phantom Menace. "I don't think I've heard of that movie, though. I guess I'm game. What's it about? Not mushy?" She was really not in the mood for romance. "Really, I mostly watch science fiction. And the odd comedy." Avery Calder "I haven't heard of that either, but I'm all for Liam Neeson," Avery agreed with a grin. "If it's not sappy, I say just pop in the DVD and we can be surprised!" He settled back down on the couch next to Cassidy, leaving room on his other side for Timothy to sit down. Timothy Matthews Timothy looked at the back briefly. "Says he plays a scientist studying human sexuality." Timothy shrugged and dropped the DVD into the player. Then he sat back and taking the remote, skipped the menu and hit play. Timothy snuggled up with Avery and sat back to enjoy the movie...

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Timothy goes 75% and, Avery gives him a birthday present.
Avery Calder Odd as it might be, Avery has been a lot happier ever since he got his calendar a while back. He was able to know what day it was, didn't feel like he was just drifting along anymore. He marked down special dates - Tim's birthday, his own birthday, his mother and father's birthdays (which were later crossed out - if he didn't remember them, he wouldn't get depressed about missing them). There weren't many dates that were important for him to remember anymore, but at least there were some, and he wanted to make sure he didn't miss them. But this still left the long, boring days. He was never quite sure what to do with himself most days - of course, he loved being around other people the most, but there was still only so much one could do. It wasn't until one day he noticed he was getting a little pudgy (of course, that's what happens when you laze about all day) and, being rather vain, declared that he and Tim should start making use of the workout room. Timothy had agreed since he had been feeling rather bored himself lately. If there was one thing about Avery, however, is that he gets bored - and distracted - easily. He discovered that he much preferred playing around with the CD player and watching Timothy work out, than actually working out himself. He managed to keep it up for a few days, at least, but without new workout machines, he lost interest quickly. This didn't stop him from dragging Timothy along to the workout room every now and then, however. If there was one thing that could hold Avery's attention, it was Tim (and he felt Tim was pretty damn sexy when he worked out). Most days, Avery felt a little too tired to work out, anyway. He had been having nightmares for a while now, waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble falling back asleep again. He would dream about being a dog, or that night on the cruise ship. He would dream about his parents not recognizing him, about Tim leaving him, about people not wanting him anymore - and sometimes he would have nightmares about his cowardice, terrible things happening to the people he loves because he was too afraid to help them. Overall, despite the nightmares (and being part dog), Avery was feeling pretty happy. He felt more attached to Timothy than ever, more eager to please (and a bit more energetic too), although he wasn't quite sure if that was just because he was in love or because he was turning into a dog. Avery didn't dwell on this too much, because he didn't think it really mattered the reason why - he was happy. Today, though, he wasn't worrying about anything - it was one of those special days he marked on his calender, and he'd be damned if he would let anything ruin it. He's been especially nice to Timothy all day today, at the same time trying not to let on that he remembered it was his birthday. He wanted to surprise him, even though he didn't have a lot planned - he managed to speak to the lab assistants and get a gift for him. Avery didn't think it was anything extravagant or spectacular, but it was still something a little special and he felt Timothy would like it. At least, he hoped he would. He let the day go on like usual, which brought them where they were now, on their way to the workout room. Avery grinned at his boyfriend, reaching out to take the other boy's hand. He figured after they worked out (or, Tim worked out anyway - and Avery was definitely noticing that it was doing Timothy some good) when they got back, he would surprise Tim with his present. Timothy Matthews Timothy had to admit he had gotten used to this. As he worked up and down on the curling machine. He'd never been much for working out, but since he'd gotten to the island he'd never been in better shape. First, there was all the walking he'd gotten used to doing around the Island. Keeping to himself and his thoughts mostly. Till he'd met Avery atleast.
He glanced over at his shirt, he'd left it off because he'd noticed Avery's appreciative glances. He also didn't see himself in a tank top, and with all this fur, it didn't make much sense not to go al natural. Atleast from the waist up.
The curls were harder than usual today though. He'd felt off the entire day. Due to the layer of fur he hadn't noticed the puncture in his arm. He continued to pull down on the bar before he stopped. To rest for himself.
"I'm... getting tired Avery." Avery Calder Avery stopped skipping songs on the CD player to look up at Timothy, and he turned the CD player off. "Really? You usually go on for a bit longer... well, that's okay!" he smiled, walking over to the skunk boy and holding his hands out to him to help him up. "Why don't we go back to our place and you can get some rest?" he suggested, tail wagging behind him. He resisting turning his head to glare at his own tail - that thing had a mind of it's own sometimes. Besides, why glare at his tail when his boyfriend was half naked right in front of him? He hadn't seemed to really notice any change in Timothy's behaviour today, too busy lost in his own thoughts. Timothy Matthews "Sure... let me just rest for a few..." Timothy sat down on the bench. Then, he felt very faint. "Let me make that lay down..." he leaned back on the bench. He ran his hand across the thin layer of fur.
"I... don't feel well at all Avery." Timothy felt his entire body heating up. It'd been such a long time since anything like this had happened to him. He wasn't even putting together what was happening to him. Avery Calder Avery started to grow concerned. He had never seen Timothy change before, and he wasn't even sure how many times people on the island did change - he had been starting to assume Timothy was finished now. He crouched down by the bench, putting his hands over Tim's furred hands. "Don't feel well..? What's wrong? Can I do something for you?" Avery wanted to help, but he wasn't sure what to do. Timothy Matthews Tim's entire body hurt. It was like all his muscles were aching at the same time. Had he done something wrong, had he worked out too much or was it something besides that.
Timothy reached over to his arm and ran his fingers across it. Finding the puncture wound in his arm as his ears began to stretch and round further. Even as they did his entire body began to... thicken slightly. Avery Calder Avery gasped a bit, his tail ticking between his legs when he noticed Timothy's body starting to change. He pulled back, not sure what he should do... he knew that wasn't any way he could stop what was happening. He hasn't seen many people change, but it was definitely not something he was in a hurry to see again... ... but this was Timothy, he wasn't about to run off when he needed him to be around. Timothy Matthews Timothy's changes continued. In a way it wasn't all that unpleasent to watch. Just... dramatic. As his body thickened, the muscles he'd been building already seemed to grow more defined. His began to tail stretched and some of the fur on his body began to grow... fuzzier. Hiis face was even swelling a bit it looked like. Avery Calder Even if it wasn't as horrible as when Avery watched Colche transform, it still disturbed him... every time they changed, they lost more and more of their humanity, it seemed. He was glad, though, that Timothy's change didn't seem as painful as it could have been. He kept a small distance, staying close but not touching the other boy quite yet, wanting to wait until the changes were finished before trying to comfort him. Timothy Matthews Timothy's body finished it's slight reshaping. The fur spread down his nose, even as it pushed foward into a small muzzle. His black nose larger on the tip. Even as his sense of smell grew more sensative. The white fur on his chest and some of the fur in other parts of his body seemed thicker. Thie tail grew longer and fluffier until it was done. Whether it was due to a change comming from the skunk, or something that had been done to his serum. Timothy looked more toned than he ever had.
The changes finished. Timothy... didn't look bad at all. Avery Calder When the changes seemed to stop, Avery scooted closer to Timothy again, the worry clear on his face. He couldn't help but notice Tim's muscles were more defined than before... and damn they made him look good. "Tim... are you okay..?" He reached up, brushing some hair out of Timothy's face so Avery could look into his eyes. Timothy Matthews "Yeah.. my entire body hurts though... I didn't know there was much else they could do to me." Timothy was still leaning back. He hadn't even gotten a good look at himself.
He pulled himself up and walked over towards the mirror. "Wow..." was his stunned reply. Avery Calder Avery stood up too, following Timothy to the mirror and looking at their reflections. "Yeah, I was starting to think that you were done changing... but at least it wasn't anything too drastic, right? Plus, the pain goes away..." He let his eyes travel up and down Tim's body, and he had to admit, "although I have to say, you look really sexy, you know. I'm kinda jealous your fur isn't growing it patches like mine is," he laughed a bit. Timothy Matthews "Yeah... I don't look half bad..." Tim grinned and ran his hand across his new tail. He admitted, he wasn't looking to turn into a skunk. But atleast, if he was.
Timothy, still shorter than Avery of course pulled Avery to him (easier than it used to be) and kissed him.
"I'm glad your here, it makes his all easier to deal with... I don't know where I'd be without you." Avery Calder Avery slid his arms around Timothy's shoulders and kissed the other boy back on his short muzzle. His tail betrayed him again, wagging happily while he was in his boyfriend's arms. "Well, I'm glad I can help you through it... even if I can't really do anything about it... although I wish I could." Timothy Matthews "It's not that bad though this time around... don't get me wrong. I hurt like all hell. But, I already looked inhuman. Atleast now my tail isn't so stubby and... well... is it just me or umm..." Timothy ran his hand across his own chest. He was trying to make sure it wasn't some illusion of his eyes or something he hadn't noticed about all the working out.
"I didn't walk in like this did I?" Timothy wanted to be sure. It'd make quiet the birthday present for him.
He resisted the urge to almost grin a bit. He wasn't... supposed to be happy when he changed. He wanted Avery's confirmation he hadn't just missed something. Avery Calder "That's true... I have to admit... I kinda like your tail. It's so soft and fluffy," the dog boy grinned, touching his boyfriend's tail to feel said soft fur. Avery couldn't resist, reaching out to slide his hand over Timothy's chest as well, feeling his muscles. "Heh, well, working out so much, you were getting in really nice shape... but after the change... it's a lot more visable. Still, though - kind of a cruel thing to have happen on your birthday, of all days..." Timothy Matthews "Yeah... but... I like it... comming from someone who obviously likes men." Timothy reached back and gropped Avery's butt. "I feel more handsome... I'm not mad about this one. I wonder if it was intentional." Timothy grinned.
He found it ironic, after only a moment. Vasile seemed to be gaining a bit of pudge in like his thighs, and here Timothy was looking good afterwrds. He wasn't going to complain. Of course, this made Avery look more girly by comparison to Tim now... Avery Calder "Well, intentional or not, you look hot," Avery grinned back, happy that Timothy didn't seem that upset about his changes. Avery didn't mind looking girly - he brought it on himself, considering the types of clothes that he wore. "You know, though... speaking of your birthday... I got you a present. It's back in our duplex, though." He smiled, looking at Timothy hopefully. "Think you're feeling up to opening it now?" Timothy Matthews "Sure... I'd be up for that." Timothy put his arm around Avery and smiled, he was tired. "I think my work out paid off enough for today." Timothy grinned and walked with Avery back to the duplex.
He didn't take his arm from around him the whole trip though. Avery Calder Avery didn't mind helping him, sliding his arm around Tim's waist, and he supported the skunk boy all the way back to their duplex - opening the door for him and helping him over to the bed. "Do you wanna take anything for the pain, or your present first?" he asked with a smile, his tail wagging behind him. Timothy Matthews Although his body hurt. He wasn't really leaning on Avery for support. He was leaning on him so he could hold him. But whatever Avery wanted was fine with Timothy. He enjoyed the feel of Avery's body against his. He hadn't even bothered to put on his shirt, it'd be too tight. Just his hoodie.
"The muscle ache is getting better, besides, I want to see the present!" Timothy bounced excitedly. Avery Calder Avery laughed, "okay then, present it is!" He walked over to the other side of the room, crouching down and digging into the bottom drawer of the dresser. He pulled out a rectangular box from under his clothes, wrapped in plain blue paper, before he walked back over to Tim and held the box out to him. "Um... it's nothing like... amazing, or anything... but I hope you like it anyway," Avery grinned sheepishly. "Happy birthday!" The box wasn't very heavy, but there was a slight noticeable weight to it, like a thick book. Inside was a plain white three-ring binder with plastic sleeves on the front and back for customization (in the front sleeve was a sheet of paper on which Avery had written, Happy birthday, Tim! With love, Avery). The bottom half of the binder could be pulled out so it could stand on it's own, for easier reading. Inside the binder, however, were many blank sheets of music lined paper, each sheet inscribed with "Music by Timothy Matthews" on the top. The music lines were specifically customized for guitar music in particular, with space underneath each line to add words as well. "I thought, you know... I know you always wanted to write music, and just 'cuz we're stuck here doesn't mean you can't." Avery watched his reaction with a hopeful look in his face. Timothy Matthews Timothy's eyes lit up. He stood up leaned forward and hugged Avery very tightly. Which was probably more tightly than he used to. He then started crying lightly.
"I'd... almost given up on my music... thank you... this means a lot. You have... no idea." he hugged him again and held Avery's body next to his. Avery Calder Avery was surprised at the tears, but he hugged Timothy back tightly, glad that he liked the present. He nuzzled the other boy's shoulder affectionately. "I'm glad you like it... you shouldn't give up on music! I expect to see you writing stuff in this now, you know!" he smiled encouragingly. "And you gotta play the songs for me too! We gotta hold on to the humanity we have left, yanno? No reason to stop doing your music just because we're here. There are still people here to enjoy it, right?" Timothy Matthews "You know, your probably right. I have an idea..." Timothy started considering his plan. His transformation had been physical, but he felt more confident on some level... he looked more toned... he also wasn't as scared of things. If anything messed with him he'd just spray it... wait that wasn't right.
Timothy shook his head, either way a plan was forming in his head. One that he'd considered before but was just now getting the guts to do so. Avery Calder Avery looked interested. "An idea? What kind of idea? Can I help?" Yes, definitely interested... his tail was thumping against the bed, eager to hear what kind of plan Timothy was thinking of, head tilted a little bit to the side in curiosity. Timothy Matthews "I was thinking a..." Timothy stopped, cocked his head slightly and smiled. "...suprise."
"Besides, it may not happen anyway... but we'll see what I can work out." he smiled. Timothy snuggled over and kissed Avery's neck. "We should go out..." Avery Calder "Aww," Avery pouted, feeling conflicted between being left out, and liking surprises. He resisted the urge to climb right into Timothy's lap when he kissed Avery's neck, instead jumping up at the prospect of heading back out. "Okay! Let's go!" he was practically bouncing, feeling full of energy that he needed to get out. Staying cooped up in their duplex wasn't going to help him get rid of his energy, so he was eager to go back outside. Timothy Matthews "Alright..." Timothy wrapped his arm around Avery again and headed out with him. He strolled in the direction of the gym. It wasn't where he was going, he was just walking but he was used to going in that direction.
After a bit of walking Timothy began singing.
"I didn't know where to find myself, I didn't know know which direction was up. The only direction, I'd known was down.
Then I found, or maybe... you found me. Now I'm walking clouds, My love, can't you see.
I'm happy, I'm excited, I'm in love, with me and you." Avery Calder Avery couldn't help the grin spreading across his face as he walked with Timothy, his arm around the other boy's waist again. He's never known anyone that would sing to him before - let alone someone who did their own songs. It always made him smile, made him feel happy whenever Timothy sang, knowing that he was hearing something special that no one else has heard. "I'm not as good with words as you are... but I hope you know I love you too, right?" he asked, looking at him. Timothy Matthews "I know... your the best and I love you so much." Timothy snuggled with Avery. "Let's just... walk. Figure out where we end up."
He didn't really care where they ended up. He didn't even really care where they were. Just as long as he was with Avery.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which girlfriends, boyfriends, and transformations are discussed.
Avery Calder The TV was off for once, and Avery had settled down on the couch in the entertainment room, laying on his stomach as he wrote in the Dream Diary that Dr. Frost had given him. It seemed like ever since he received this book, he had been having more and more nightmares. Or perhaps he was always having them - he just hadn't been remembering them until he started writing them down? He had noticed that a lot of his nightmares were recurring, never exactly the same but always very similar. He sighed a little as he wrote the last part of his nightmare in his scratchy handwriting; one thing he didn't like about writing his nightmares was that he had to think about them again. He just hoped Dr. Frost would be able to help him get rid of the nightmares once she read everything he's been writing. Nita MacNeal Nita wandered into the entertainment room carrying a stack of books and DVDs in her arms. She automatically began placing them on their proper shelves, not even noticing Avery until her ears caught the scratching of a pen on paper. "Oh!" she exclaimed, turning around and nearly dropping the last couple DVDs. "Sorry, I didn't notice you at first..." The red panda girl looked at Avery carefully, trying to decide if they'd met before. Avery Calder Avery almost didn't notice the panda girl come into the room either, but as she got closer to the shelves his ears perked up at her footsteps. "Hey," he grinned at the girl, and sat up on the couch, closing the diary. "Sorry," he laughed, "I didn't mean to scare you, I promise!" The girl seemed very vaguely familiar, but he wouldn't quite place where he might have met her before. Of course, she most likely looked a lot different when Avery first saw her. "Hmm... I feel like I've met you before. The red hair is familiar..." Nita MacNeal Nita quickly shelved the offending DVDs and perched on the arm of the couch. "Nah, didn't scare me. There just isn't usually anyone in here when I am." She grinned back at Avery. He was definitely familiar... Her hands went up to her hair, which was one feature that had stayed the same throughout her changes. "I'm Nita," she said. "And I think we have met, but damned if I can remember when." Nita shook her head, thinking. Whoever this guy was, he probably hadn't been quite so furry when she'd seen him before. And, on a similar note, she probably hadn't been either. Avery Calder "Nita, Nita," he repeated to himself, trying to remember. It's been so very long since he's seen anyone human on the island - a disturbing thought. "Well, I'm Avery," he said, wondering if the girl would remember his name, at least. Why couldn't he remember? Had he been drunk? "Oh... was it at the party a while ago? We played some drinking game, right? I don't think there's been another party since then, that I know of..." Nita MacNeal "Yeah!" Nita perked up and nodded. "Fee's beach party thing, and the game of I Never." She paused for a moment before continuing, "Damn, that was a long time ago... I hadn't changed at all yet." The events of that evening started to come back. That was the night a drunken Lauren had confided in her and said she was pretty... and then had a shouting match with Fee. "I think we were the ones that actually started the game," Nita laughed. "Us, and Rex and Fiona, I think." Avery Calder "Ahh, that's right! It's all coming back to me now," Avery grinned, his tail lightly thumping on the couch behind him as it wagged. "Yeah, you look a lot different now. Not bad or anything," he added, quickly. "I mean, just different. Glad to see you didn't get stuck with something... slimy." Nita MacNeal Nita slid down onto the couch to sit cross-legged, facing Avery with her tail hanging down to the floor. "You do too," she pointed out, not at all offended. "But yeah, I'm glad I'm still a mammal." And other things she'd never thought she'd say. "So... What have you been up to, I guess?" Nita tried not to giggle, watching Avery's tail wag. Avery Calder "Ehh... not much to do around here, really. Just trying to keep myself entertained," Avery shrugged. "My boyfriend's birthday was just a few days ago... of course, the bastards injected him, and he transformed on the same day," he said, bitterness obvious in his voice. "It wasn't too bad of a transformation though, so..." he shrugged, and looked at Nita. "And what about you, how are you doing?" Nita MacNeal The red panda girl nodded. "Aw, man, he changed on his birthday? That had to have sucked." Nita made a face at the prospect. "What's he turning into?" She pulled her tail into her lap and stroked the end of it absently. "I read a lot, and watch movies," she said, indicating the shelves running along the walls of the room. "And I wander around, in the jungle, or on the beach. It's so nice and quiet out there, you know?" Avery Calder "He's turning into a skunk - have you met him? His name's Timothy." Avery relaxed back on the couch, setting his diary and pen off to the side, forgetting about them for the moment. "Hmm, I guess it is," Avery murmured, but he didn't seem all that pleased about it. "Kind of boring... no excitement. Not the good kind, anyway. I want to get out and do stuff, but there's nothing exciting to do. I feel like I've done everything here already." Nita MacNeal "Hmmm." Nita thought for a moment, shifting through her mental list of names and faces. "I don't think I've met him. It's weird, I run into so many people, but I know there are a lot I've never seen or talked to." She made another face. "I seem to keep running into new people. Like, new to the island." Nita quirked a grin. "What's the 'good kind' of excitement?" Avery Calder "Yeah, same here, although usually the new people I meet now have already gone through at least one change. I'd hate to be the one to have to break the news to someone, yanno?" Avery shook his head. When would they stop? Didn't they have enough subjects by now? "There are lots of different kinds of good excitement," Avery grinned with a slight leer. "But the kind I'm talking about is parties, fun, games! Big group get togethers, not just hanging out with one or two people at a time. I mean, that's all well and good, but I'm a social guy! I like hanging out in big groups." Nita MacNeal "I've had to break the news a few times now. Just my luck, eh? I ran into a guy a couple nights ago, and he was just stepping out of his duplex for the first time. He was.. surprised, to say the least, not to mention he'd woken up here and been told he was dead. This was supposed to be some sort of afterlife, if you can believe that." Nita smacked her forhead. "I was like, 'Uh, no, you're still alive. But... you're gonna turn into an animal. Sorry.'" That had been an interesting discussion, even though Tommy had taken the news pretty well, at least on the outside. Nita snickered, having a pretty good idea of what Avery meant. "Well, I was never one for big crowds, but I know what you mean." Avery Calder "Afterlife!?" Avery couldn't help but laugh at that. How could anyone think something like that? "Well, I'm not sure which news would be easier to take. Poor guy... I wonder what made him think that?" Avery thought out loud. "That's okay! But every once in a while is fun, right!? There should be another party soon. That would be great - and at least it would be something different going on, right?" Avery seemed excited at the thought of a party, tail wagging against the back of the couch again, but he didn't seem to take much notice. Nita MacNeal Nita snickered at the memory. "Oh, I know! I had to try so hard not to fall off the steps laughing. I feel bad for the guy, though. He's military or something, and the plane he was on went down. So I guess it was believable that he'd died. But yeah. I'd rather be here than dying out at sea." She shrugged, grinning slightly. Nita really had made a sort of life for herself. "A party? I dunno, the last one didn't end too well. Maybe you'd left by then, but, ah, some.. tempers got enflamed," she said carefully. "Not that something like that would necessarily happen again, but it's something to keep in mind." Avery Calder "Oh really? I don't really remember much near the end..." Avery sighed deeply, wondering if a party really would be a good idea. "I wouldn't want people getting all pissed at each other. Parties are supposed to be fun, I hate it when things get ruined like that... people need to learn to relax sometimes." Nita MacNeal Nita winced. "It wouldn't have been bad, except Fee got up and tried to start a revolution or something and Lauren practically launched herself at her. It was a bit of a mess." Nita shifted, drawing her knees up to chest, tail curling around her feet. "I just really hate when people get mad, especially at me, or even just around me. Maybe I'm just too non-confrontational..." Her voice trailed off and she shrugged lamely. Avery Calder "Ah, don't feel bad about it... I'm the same way. I just get scared, I - well, I'm kind of a coward..." Avery looked a little embarrassed. He wanted to be brave, he really did, but his first instincts were always to freeze up or run away - even before the changes. "When people start yelling or screaming or whatever, I just cringe and wanna get out of there, A-S-A-P." Nita MacNeal "The old 'fight-or-flight' instinct, I guess," Nita said, attempting a laugh. "Maybe it's more about survival than cowardice. I mean, if someone attacked me physically instead of verbally, I don't think I'd do very well at fending them off. I'd just want to get the hell away. So maybe it's the same with yelling. The same feeling of helplessness... or something." Avery Calder Avery nodded. "Yeah, I guess so. But still, I wish I could stick up for myself and fight back, you know? I'm a guy! That's what I'm supposed to do. I've already been attacked on the island, and if it weren't for the little chip things... I dunno what would have happened. I froze up the first time..." he sighed. Nita MacNeal "Jesus. You were attacked? By who??" Nita asked, clearly surprised. Sure, she'd heard about people being attacked, but not from one of them in person. "I've been yelled at a couple of times." She frowned, but cracked a smile after a moment. "I also got chased up a tree by a small dog. Now that was fight-or-flight!" Avery Calder "A small dog?" Avery laughed. "Huh, maybe he could give me a lesson or two in bravery..." he joked. "Yeah... I was attacked by Zach. Twice actually... first time he was drunk, and the second time was right after his change... guess he gets violent or something after he changes - not that I blame him, just wish he didn't try to take it out on other people. We've talked though, so things are a bit better. I just gotta make sure to avoid him if he looks different." Nita MacNeal Nita grinned at Avery. "I was really jumpy since I'd just changed, and something came at me. So -whoosh!- There I was, about fifteen feet up in a tree. I was a bit embarrassed at the time, but it was pretty funny after the fact." "Zach, huh? He's one of the people that yelled at me. And then the only other time I ran into him, he was busy yelling at someone else." Nita rolled her eyes. "Just changed or not, I have to say I'm not terribly impressed with him." She shook her head again and pulled the elastics off the ends of her braids. Avery Calder "Zach was the one? Well, maybe he's just got some anger issues then... I wonder if it's because he's turning into a dragon? Maybe it's messing with his head or something," Avery suggested, thinking. "Actually, I noticed I've changed a bit too, since my transformations. I've always been a clingy person, but now... I mean, sometimes I can't sleep just because Tim isn't near me." He couldn't help but wonder what he would be like in the end of all this. How much will he have changed... physically and mentally? Nita MacNeal Nita blinked. "A dragon? Good grief. You know, after you've been here a while, you think you can't be surprised anymore, but geez. My downstairs neighbor is definitely turning into a shark, but he's also got leaves." She shook her head in disbelief. The red panda girl looked at Avery closely. "You're.. a dog of some kind? I guess the clingyness would make sense, then. I mostly just get nervous around people I don't know, especially if it's obvious they're a predator. Part of me wants to dash up a tree and hide." Nita grinned. Avery Calder "A shark with leaves? What the hell? That's not even... that doesn't even make any sense! What are they just doing, throwing random crap into a syringe and injecting people now?" Avery sighed. A dragon, and a shark with leaves... what will they come up with next? "Yeah, I'm a dog of some sort... no idea what kind, though." Avery tilted his head slightly, looking at Nita curiously. "Hmm... so what are you turning into, then? I can't tell... kinda like your tail, though." Nita MacNeal "I have absolutely no idea. That's what it seems like, sometimes." Nita echoed Avery's sigh and finger-combed her hair. "Something that comes in yellow," she mused. "A retriever or a lab, maybe?" Nita paused in her grooming for a moment. "Hm? A red panda. I forget that people don't usually know about them." She giggled at Avery's expression; with his head cocked to the side like that, he really did look like a puppy. "Your tail is cute, too," Nita said with a grin. Avery Calder "Hmm, one of those could be it... I feel like a shaved poodle right now though, with the way my fur is growing in," Avery sighed, a little bit over-dramatically. He was obviously not pleased about his patches of fur. "Thanks! It's annoying sometimes, though. It does things even when I don't want it to, like wagging randomly. A red panda, huh? Yeah, I never heard of it before... I've heard of regular pandas though. I didn't think they had such long tails?" he asked, peering at Nita's tail. Nita MacNeal Nita frowned sympathetically, although the patches weren't too noticeable under his clothing. She supposed she was fortunate that her fur was coming in pretty evenly. "I always hated seeing poodles and other dogs all shaved like that. I mean, it's not like you're patchy on purpose, but with poodles, someone actually made them look that stupid. She began rebraiding her hair, nimble fingers working quickly through the long strands. "I don't think giant pandas, the black and white ones, I don't think they have tails. Red pandas look a lot like raccoons, except for the coloring. They're supposed to be more closely related to weasels and ferrets, although they eat bamboo like giant pandas." Nita laughed softly at herself, tying off one braid and switching to work on the other side. "I did my research." Avery Calder "God, at least my tail isn't getting clipped or anything. I don't mind looking like a shaved poodle, as long as nothing on me gets clipped," Avery shuddered at the thought. " Ohh, so they're smaller animals then... raccoons are kinda cute," he commented, watching the girl as she braided her hair. Absently, he raised his hand and toyed with the end of his own hair as he thought. "So I guess that means you'll start eating bamboo too, hunh? Ugh, I hope I don't have to eat... dog food now, or something," Avery made a face at that - even just thinking about it made him feel a bit sick. Nita MacNeal Not to mention other things that could be clipped or snipped. "We had red pandas at the zoo back home. They're cuter than raccoons," Nita said playfully. "I already eat bamboo, though. It's pretty good. Besides, it shows up in Asian food all the time. And I've never met a domesticated dog that wouldn't rather eat someone's hamburger than dog food." Avery Calder "Really?" Avery didn't look like the thought of eating bamboo was very appetizing. "I guess I never really ate much Asian food then... but at least you know you already like it, so it won't be so bad! And that's true, I don't have to beg for the human food," he grinned, chuckling a bit. Nita MacNeal "To be honest, I usually picked the bamboo out of my lo mein. But at least it wasn't foreign as a 'food,' you know? Not like bugs or something." Nita made a face. "My girlfriend eats bugs sometimes, and it doesn't bother me, but I just politely decline when she offers." Both braids finished, Nita tucked the last few stray bits behind her ears and sat back against the arm of the couch. Avery Calder "Girlfriend?" Avery's ears perked up and he grinned, raising his eyebrows at her. "Really now? Who might this girlfriend be?" He could remember that one girl, Lauren - the one who was actually on Moreau's side - she was hard to forget for her views alone. Avery wondered if she ever returned the playboy she took to the shelves. Nita MacNeal Nita blushed through her fur, hoping in vain that Avery either didn't know Lauren, or wasn't blatantly angry at her. Lauren tended to piss people off, except for the few who weren't rabidly against Moreau, like Rex. "Um.. It's Lauren," she said, keeping her tone bland. Avery Calder "Aha, her! I've met her," Avery nodded, the grin still on his face. "She seems cool - if not very outspoken," he chuckled. "Can't say I really understand her views on this whole... situation... but, at least she's happy here then, right? And now she's got a pretty girlfriend too, another reason for her to like it here." Nita MacNeal Visibly relieved, Nita returned the grin. "She is pretty cool. I don't really agree with her fully, but.. I know why she feels the way he does. And yeah, if I hadn't ended up here, I'd never have met her." She blushed slightly when Avery said she was pretty, but she took it as a compliment nonetheless. Besides, Avery seemed thoroughly 'taken.' Avery Calder "That's pretty much the way I've started to feel, too... I mean, I would still rather not be turning into a dog - but here, I have Tim, and he makes me really happy," Avery smiled. "Speaking of which, I think I should be heading back to my duplex now..." He stretched and stood up, picking up his dream diary and looking down at Nita. "I'm sure I'll see you around, it was nice talking to again - sober this time," he chuckled. Nita MacNeal Nita nodded in agreement, although she didn't mention that she didn't particularly mind being turned into a red panda. Except for the pain of the transformations themselves, it really wasn't so bad. She stretched and stood as well. "Alright, I'm sure I'll see you around, Avery. I'm in number 44, if you ever need to find me." Avery Calder "Tim and I are in 32," Avery smiled. "See ya later!" he said, and he headed off out of the entertainment room and back to his own duplex, tail wagging behind him the whole way. Nita MacNeal Nita waved good-bye to Avery. She spent a few minutes browsing the shelves and chose another armful of movies to watch. Before heading back to her duplex, she also made a quick trip to the cafteria to grab her usual selection of bamboo and snacks.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Avery sees his nightmare come to life.
Pyroth Ignatius Panic. Flat, bottomless panic had been the herald to Pyroth’s morning. As soon as he opened his eyes, he could feel something was wrong, something was different. It was the scents in the room that unnerved him, that and the stinging twinge on one of his forelegs. He had tried to convince himself it was nothing, just a bad dream and an over-active imagination, but the feeling wouldn’t go away. His stomach had felt unsettled, no longer interested in food, simply in feeling as though it was full of very heavy stones simply through dread.
He had paced up and down his duplex, up and down, like a caged animal, off the edge of flaked out, his imagination running riot. For all he knew, if this had been the injection, these could be his last few moments as a coherently thinking human. It could all end anytime. It felt like he was sinking in his own anxiety.
This pacing continued for several hours, all the while he remained totally unable to escape the fear. Finally there came a point whereupon he could take it no longer and he snapped, breaking his pacing stride and throwing wide the door to the duplex, escaping those claustrophobic walls and getting out into the open air.
There was no way he’d lose it all alone in that lonely duplex watched by the cameras. If this was the fate of the others, they needed to know.
He headed towards the cafeteria, hoping that if nothing else, a drink of water might calm him down or something. Hobbling in, he filled a bowl with water and sat down, staring at it, his ears back, tail tucked.
Avery Calder Another night, another nightmare; another day, more of the same. He was starting to almost get used to the nightmares now - they were repetitive, just like his life here. At least during the day, he was happy. He had gone out for a walk on his own, enjoying the fresh air and exercise. He was too impatient to deal with the machines in the work out room. But after a good while of walking (all the way to the beach and back - he had lost track of time), his stomach decided to remind him that it needed food. His canine nose picked up the scents of food as he walked closer to the cafeteria - and something else. Something - someone new. As he pushed open the doors and stepping inside, his tail stopped wagging when he saw the figure sitting at a table. He looked like a canine of some sort - wolf? dog? - but his proportions were all... wrong, his joints were off. Avery approached the table, meaning to introduce himself, when he noticed the other man's paws. Not quite hands anymore, he couldn't help but staring, the unease clear on his face. Was this the person Awen had told him about? He stopped at the edge of the table next to the other canine, and he opened his mouth to speak, but found he didn't know what to say except, "um... hi," in an uncharacteristically timid voice. Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth looked up almost instantly at Avery's words, looking to all the world before as though he hadn't heard his approach, staring at his reflection. He hadn't really expected anyone to be here but part of him was glad.
He took a calming breath, as calming as he could muster, aware that he probably looked crazy the way he was behaving. Finally getting a chance to look at the other who'd addressed him he saw that he appeared to be becoming canine aswell, the features familiar to him, though admittedly different in some respects.
He was probably more unnerved by him than most, Pyroth seeming like a premonition, a possibility rather than just another islander.
"He..hello." he stammered, to his own surprise, his voice shaky. He nodded "I'm Pyroth."
But still his ears and tail remained fixed in "terror" mode Avery Calder Indeed, it was obvious that Avery was scared just seeing the other man - it was one thing to be told about it, but another to actually see it for himself. It wasn't that he hadn't believed Awen - but now he knew it was the truth, it was real. He sat himself down heavily across from Pyroth; he wasn't positive he could have stayed standing. "I'm, uh - I'm Avery," he said quietly. His ears reflected Pyroth's, pressed back against his head as he looked at him across the table. "S-so... are you... I mean - you're... turning into a dog, too?" He knew it was a stupid question, the answer was obvious - perhaps not a dog in particular. He almost hoped the other man would deny it just so he could relax a little. Antoinette Devereux So many things had been wracking on her brain lately, and none of them had really been resolved. In fact, she highly doubted that there was any more anger left in her. She was utterly exhausted, and at that particular moment, hungry. Her tails whipped behind her, unable to stay still regardless of how much she attempted to will them to. It was quite frustrating, really. Pushing her way inside the café, she nudged up the sunglasses as a makeshift headband to keep her inch above chin length hair out of her eyes. In her usual tank top and, as of late, shorter shorts that rode low to accommodate for her tails, Antony noticed the two already present. One of which, Avery, was easily identified thanks to his hair, but the other, well she was having a hard time with that one. "Hey," she said lazily, yawning and not bothering to cover her mouth as she eyed the other one. His eyes were what eventually identified him, and she blinked back a grand amount of shock. "Pyroth?" She could hardly recognize him anymore. Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth looked over sympathetically at Avery from where he sat, aware that for better or worse it would all end soon for him, the future was uncertain for the youthful man before him. Avery, he noted the name, unable to keep his gaze fixed on the fear he could read in the other's face all too easily. Expressions used to be hard to read because they could be faked, ear postures were harder to falsify.
His gaze returned to the tabletop. "Coyote." was his simple answer.
He was about to add to this when Antony spoke up, making him look up in surprise, it had been a while and time had changed her too. It was her scent that finally made him realise. He mirrored her surprise for a second before stammering. "Y.Yes. It's me behind this muzzle."
And speaking of fur, he felt terrible, like his was much too hot, hotter than usual, his skin sensitive to every breeze in the cafeteria.
No, he would keep his fear under control. But it was hard when part of him wanted to tell about the pinprick that greeted him that morning, to hear a reassurance he was over-reacting, anything. Avery Calder Avery was trying very hard not to stare, and it took every ounce of will to tear his eyes away, looking down at the table. His hands were gripping the edges of his seat so tightly they were starting to ache just a little - he pried his hands off the seat, placing them on the table instead. Coyote. Not a dog like him, but still canine... the worry was still there, making knots in his stomach. He certainly didn't feel very hungry at all anymore. He heard someone else enter the cafeteria and he looked up; although she looked different now, the white fur and multiple tails - were there that many before? Better not ask - made her easy to recognize. He lifted his hand to wave a little, not feeling in the mood for talking. It seemed like every time he reunited with someone, they were changed again. Antoinette Devereux Antony suddenly had a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach. "I'm sorry I never came by to see you," she murmured guiltily, rubbing the back of her neck in attempts to sooth away how shitty she felt. Billy's angst was apparently contagious. She couldn't stop staring because unlike most islanders she had seen, Pyroth looked more beast than man. Vasile at least had no problems walking upright, and it seemed they both were turning into canines. The thing that bothered her the most was the stench of fear in the air. The squirrel was uneasy being between two predators, especially when the tension seemed rather volatile. Something was not quite right. A nod was offered to Avery's greeting before she made her way closer to the pair. "You look terrible... I mean, like you're sick..." She couldn't seem to finish her statement, but instead offered him questioning look of 'can I do anything to help?' Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth shook his head, feeling guilty himself for not visiting Antony before now either. "Nah, It's okay, I've not been in much anyway." It was true really, he'd spent more time in the jungle than enjoying what he had.
He didn't even notice the staring, returning his gaze to the table in front of him, unhappy that he'd come over here only to have worried another islander even further, especially a fellow canine. He felt ill but wasn't sure if that was linked to guilt, worry, fear or something else.
He dipped a finger into the waterbowl in front of him, Antony's tone coaxing him to admit what was really bothering him. It felt like the hardest thing he'd had to say, almost losing his mettle mid-way.
"I think..I think. They injected me this morning. There's more....changes to come." he had to grit his teeth on a whimper. Normally never one to show weakness in front of others, he lowered his ears even further.
"Yeah. I came here because no matter how hard I try I can't stop freaking out." Avery Calder "Injected you!?" Avery nearly yelped in surprise, his eyes wide. "This morning? How - how long does it take for you to... you know..." he gestured with his hand, "change?" He almost wanted to get up and run right then; he wasn't sure this was something he wanted to see. But he stayed put, no matter how scared he was - running off wouldn't change things. Besides, this way he could see what he was probably going to become, too. Maybe... maybe there was still a chance, despite Pyroth's currently awkward joints? Antoinette Devereux "Well ********," she said bluntly, stepping over to give him a comforting scratch behind the nearest ear. This was... not going to be pretty. Not that any transformation was pretty, but still. "It differs," she said, answering Avery's question quickly, motioning for him to calm down. "Can you go get some asprin from Delia?" Hopefully running off that extra tension would make him calm down a bit. She sighed, and sat in a nearby chair, scooting it close to Pyroth's. "Hey, I'll stay with you if you want?" Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth nodded to Avery. "I don't know. That's the worst part, sometimes it's been almost right away, other times it takes longer." he didn't mention that you could normally tell when it was about to go off simply by the tension that built up in all your muscles, as though all the heat and stored energy in your body was ready to just go in one fell swoop. If he mentioned that, he'd have to mention that he could already feel that horrible sensation in his fingers.
He was more greatful than he could possibly word in his current state that people didn't just vanish at the news. He felt horrible asking anyone to witness something he didn't even know the consequences of but despite his pride, dignity and all those things he had once held dear, he couldn't bear to be alone right now.
A nod and a grateful, though somewhat anxious smile was all he could offer. "Only if you don't mind, I don't want to be the source of anyone's nightmares." his gaze shifted to Avery. "I would never force you to stay either, it's much too close to home. "
He looked down at the bowl again, untouched since he poured it.
"It won't be too long anyway." now he knew he hadn't been imagining it, the twitchiness and slow tingling were spreading gradually across his limbs and chest, making it hard to breathe comfortably. Avery Calder This was it, his chance to get away. He didn't have to stay. But what kind of person would he be? Besides, it's not like he wasn't already having nightmares about it. Avery had only changed twice, but each time it had been right after waking up - from horrible, horrible dreams. But he knew from seeing others change that it could happen at any moment. "A-asprin," Avery repeated, nodding. "Right, I'll be right back," he said, standing up quickly. He darted out of the cafeteria, running as fast as he could to get asprin for his fellow canine. Absently he wondered if he should take his time getting back - maybe it would be over by then? But no, it's better to get the asprin back as soon as he could. Antoinette Devereux "I'll stay," she confirmed, knowing full well what it was like to feel utterly alone and to want some sort of tangible comfort. These changes made her personally feel vulnerable, and she imagined it was the same for many of the other islanders. Antony stayed surprisingly silent during the exchange between the two men, and absently, she put her hand atop his more paw-like appendage, tensing at the heat she felt there. "Just ...Ah don't try and eat me please?" She said with a nervous chuckle, "I've had enough of being on the menu for now. And thanks, Avery." Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth gave his tail a grateful wag at her words, not feeling quite so terrified as he had been feeling. Despite his distraction he feigned surprise at her request. "Who me? Nah, I wouldn't." that was true for now, when he was less than hungry and very distressed. He hoped it held true after the change as well. Either way, he was almost always frail after any changes that came and wouldn't be able to do anything anyway.
"It's the knowing and waiting that's the hardest part." he said, eyeing his paws, the sensation of Antony's touch exaggerated greatly. He could feel whatever the hell it was building in intensity, a faint buzzing in his ears taking root. He tensed up more, pushing the bowl away with his free paw, looking queasy. "Yep. It's starting. ******** class="clear"> Avery Calder Bottle of aspirin clutched in his hands, Avery quickly made his way back to the cafeteria. He paused at the doors, taking a few long, deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. After a few minutes, he pushed the door open, walking back into the cafeteria. He made his way back over to the table. "Hey, I got it, here..." he trailed off when he noticed something was off, seeing Pyroth was tensed up. He stopped in his tracks a few steps away from the table, afraid to get any closer. Antoinette Devereux Without really thinking, Antony stood and pushed the table roughly away from him in case he fell. Tables had not so blunt edges, and falling on things like that ******** hurt. She swallowed, the squirrel inside her not really trusting the idea of staying here with a predator, especially one that seemed to be more animal than not. Carefully, she shifted in front of him, close enough so that she could catch him if anything went wrong, but far enough away to at least give him some space. "I'm not going anywhere," she stated firmly, watching him intently. Somehow, this was turning out much better than her latest trip to Billy's had. Her attention steered from Pyroth to Avery for a brief moment before returning it to the coyote. This wasn't really the time for chatting. Pyroth Ignatius Whatever it was that had been getting itself gathered together, making his fur almost bristle with the tension finally seemed to reach breaking point. It could go no further. With a sudden wave of nausea, he brought his paws up to his face, pressing them to the sides of his head, trying to drive away the buzzing, and the pressure.
And then it began.
The room spun like a drug trip, its colours and scents seeming to twirl together and become one. It was as though he was slipping into a dream, dozing off while still awake, it was surreal, and a slow motion sequence of events. He was about to speak, his sluggish thoughts pondering the table, now gone. Only the red rain gently falling took his attention.
Red rain?
”My hair?” He yelped, his eyes going wide. He scrambled to his feet, his chair falling to one side, only to feel like a train hit him as he did so. He doubled over, the pain everywhere, tracing it’s tendrils of agony up and down his spine, crunching his bones under its irresistible force. Where he’d been convinced there was nothing more that could change these alterations proved him otherwise, his ribs contorting into a whole new shape, leaving him unable to breathe for a few horrible seconds. It was as though heavy hands pressed onto his head and ran along his back, changing as they moved, painful and harsh. A series of painful clicks seemed to stiffen his spine, turning his vision red with their intensity. His other transformations he’d been scared he might die and hoped that death would release him from the pain. Now it felt inevitable, his body pushed to breaking point by these alterations, every muscle, tendon and bone screaming its protests into his brain.
He staggered backwards, his balance faltering, his tail sweeping out to steady him and elongating in the process. It would be a grisly scene to watch, what had once been vaguely human features losing all hint of their primate origins. It was the paws that hurt the most, their shifting and stiffening bones like toothache for the limbs. He couldn’t handle any more pain and his vision shunted in and out of blackness, blackout imminent.
Opening his eyes as the last wave of changes hit him everything slowed to a standstill, gone were the others, the room. All that stretched before him was the almost-wasteland he’d once called home. He was delirious, unreachable. And there stood the coyote from his dream, watching him. Where once he hadn’t understood, he now saw, hearing the words his grandmother had told him, a little silly ditty but one that stuck in a child’s mind.
“Trickster, Shape-Changer, keep me from danger. Cunning magician, teach me your ways Of magical fire, powers much higher. Lead me to new life. Brighten my days.”
Fire. That had been his tattoo. Irony.
Then.
He was falling, falling to the floor, no longer able to stand on legs newly changed, the ground coming up to hit him like a scolding mother.
The coyote was wisdom, wisdom and folly both. They always went hand in hand. Paw in hand?
Paw in paw?
It made no sense any longer.
Science was wisdom, this island was folly. Folly for wisdoms sake, madness in science, suffering in joy.
If you don’t laugh you’ll cry
And then it was clear. He was once again on the floor in the cafeteria, the coyote was gone. Or so it seemed. Hauling himself to his paws he tried to stand upright but could not. Too top heavy. His breath hitched in his throat and he whimpered, the reality sinking in, the aching newness of the change making him shaky on his paws.
“No..no. NO.” was all he could say, his voice a snarl. “Moreau. That. b*****d.” He needed to see, needed to know how bad it was. “What do I look like?” his voice faltered. He was too scared to look himself.
Avery Calder Avery could only stand and watch, horrified and stunned. He couldn't bring himself to move closer to help, standing there, useless. He bottle slipped from his hand, clattering to the floor and rolling a short ways away. He had never met Pyroth, never known him when he was human - but knowing that he once was, and seeing what he was becoming... it made him almost feel sick. Slowly, he sank down to his knees as Pyroth's transformation came to and end. He could feel his heart beating rapidly in his chest, the fear he felt - for the man changing in front of him, and for himself - almost making it hard for him to breathe. This was going to happen to him, too. He was going to look like this. He watched helplessly as Pyroth tried to stand back up on two legs, only to fail. Avery looked startled when the canine spoke - his vocal chords were the same, at least. He could still talk. Unless he had another change coming? It certainly wasn't out of the question... "You look--" his voice cut off, unable to say it. He didn't want to be the one to tell him, and he looked at Antony, glad that he wasn't here alone with the other man. Antoinette Devereux She drew a hand up to cover her mouth, which was gaping after a very sharp gasp had left it. When his hair fell it was like watching a chemo patient in fast forward, only without many key factors. As she watched the changes, her stomach did flip-flops and positively swayed. Her ears tried without much result to pin back, to try and block out the grotesque noises of the bones crunching and reforming, and simply the sight of him losing anything that had formerly resembled human. She felt horrible, and was terrified for herself. A giant squirrel wasn't exactly the most pleasant mental image, and at least there wasn't too much of a size difference with Pyroth. She'd be like... The King Kong of Squirrels. She and Chert could gnaw down trees together. How quaint. His voice snapped her from her subconscious day dreaming. She just hadn't been able to watch anymore. Swallowing, she shifted to her knees and crawled over to him, carefully setting her palm on his forehead before softly dragging it towards the back of his neck in a pet. "Honestly? Like a big coyote... But hey, now you can just lift you leg and piss on Moreau literally if you ever had the chance." Antony chuckled in a strained way and braced herself for a rage she wasn't sure was going to even appear, glancing over at Avery to silently plead with him not to freak out. Pyroth didn't need any more s**t that night. "Think you could take some aspirin yourself? Or do you need... assistance?" She couldn't bring herself to say 'help' for some reason. Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth was numb, totally unable to feel the magnitude of what had just happened or the aches and pains that still remained. He was in a body that fit him again but one that fit in a completely different way than it should have done. He was no longer awkward but with that, he was no longer human. He could only nod dumbly at Antony, looking as though he'd been sedated, nevertheless picking up on the reassurance of being petted. He nodded, teeth gritted.
"That's what I thought." Control. He had to maintain control, at least a bit.
Asprin? He drifted back to reality again, as he did so beginning to feel all the tenderness in his joints, ignoring the tenderness in his head.
"If you get me a bowl of water I should be able to take them." Beforehand he hadn't objected to drinking from a bowl, one he could put on a table and treat like a haha-novelty. But drinking from a bowl on the floor? It was humiliating to the extreme but in this case was unavoidable.
His tone was the almost monotone of those in shock as he nodded to Avery "Thank you for getting them for me and thank you both for staying." He didn't know how it would have gone if he was alone. Avery Calder Avery was have a lot harder time staying calm, trying not to panic. He reached out with a trembling hand, picking up the bottle of aspirin. He scooted closer to the pair, and tentively reached a hand out to touch Pyroth's fur as if trying to convince himself what he had just seen was real. He jerked his hand back as if stung, and he fought back a sudden wave of nausea. How could they both be so calm? He couldn't understand it. This transformation could represent what was going to happen to them all. He opened the bottle since he knew Pyroth couldn't do it himself anymore, and stood up, retrieving the bowl of water that had been on the table and placing it down on the floor in front of the other man. Like a dog. Oh, god."How... how many do you want?" Avery asked, looking at the bottle in his hands since he couldn't bring himself to keep looking at Pyroth. Antoinette Devereux The squirrel woman waved off the thanks as unnecessary, "I wouldn't have left you alone." Being friends, or rather, having spent a lot of time with Billy, Antony had seen a great deal of things that could very well be considered worse than helping someone after a transformation. Being inked on during sex, for one. "Two," she answered for him, knowing that he may want to take a hell of a lot more than the healthy dose. "I have some green back in my duplex..." It was an offer for Pyroth, mostly, but if Avery wanted to join she guessed she could share. Maybe. Pyroth Ignatius Pyroth was about to reply with "All of them." when Antony spoke up for him, guessing his remark. This, of all things made him grin a bit. However, Antony's second offer was one that he couldn't refuse, of to just zone out and not give a damn for another few hours would be bliss. This wasn't something he wanted to deal with right now and pot was one way he'd often used to escape. He couldn't even give a damn if smoking so soon after a transformation was unhealthy. After all, he'd never cared before.
"That would be more than a lifesaver."
It was such a scary feeling, being off the edge of freaking out, past panic attacks, past rage. Zen. Avery Calder Avery tapped two of the pills out of the bottle before replacing the lid, setting it down next to the bowl, figuring Pyroth would be wanting to take more later. "Um... here..." he crouched down in front of him, holding out the pills on his hand - he would let Pyroth decide how to take them; either putting them on his paw or taking them right from Avery's hand. Either way, it was the last straw for him. Once the pills were out of his hand, he stood back up. His face was sickly pale, and he clutched his stomach - he knew he was about to get sick, and he would rather not do it here in front of them. This was all too much, he felt too overwhelmed - all his nightmares and worst fears about the transformations were true - and without a word to either of them, he turned and ran, tail tucked between his legs and ears flat back against his head. He hoped he could make it back to his duplex before he threw up.
