"So it is."

Standing, the vampire excused himself from the table. His luck had taken a turn for the worse as the game wore on, and he came in... third, after dropping from prestigious first. It seemed Alex and Viviana were fated to share the positions of first and second as rightly deserved.

OR RIGGED?

"I certainly hope you have better luck on the battlefield then you do on the playing field, James." KB quipped, winking to the slayer as he departed. The scion of flames had come in dead last, his best hand a momentary flicker snuffed out the the serpent to his side. "If you'll excuse me~"

Then, he was back to the dance floor to fetch himself a snack.

Ever was starting to regret her decision to attend, a feeling that had stirred up just as soon as she'd heard the offhand remarks from a stranger. Lovely ring, by the way. The mariner had gone immediately stiff, resisting the urge to lift and inspect her hand only because it would have just confirmed the ring's presence. Her fingers curled into her palm and her teeth sunk into the lush curve of her lower lip, mind racing to determine how she would respond. Ignore? Feign innocence?

As it turned out, Roen made the decision for her. The Devil's sudden cry alarmed his date, and she watched in horror as Roen lunged in for the attack. Was his rage over the ring comment as well? Ever couldn't even have been sure that he'd heard it, much less taking any understanding from it, but her guilty conscience made it seem that way. Or, perhaps the stranger was simply an enemy of her escort's. He had many, of course, so it was possible. Either way, the unfolding events positively horrified her.

A faint groan of reluctance escaped the mariner's throat, drowned out by the excited hoots of the paparazzi as they thronged her from all sides to get that better shot. Should she push her way forward again and bring a stop to this scene? If it had been someone closer to the mariner, a relationship more long-lived than this one, she might have stepped in, but Roen was still almost a stranger. She hadn't gotten a feel for him yet, couldn't have known if her interference would only anger the Devil further.

Fortunately, the fight ended before she had been forced to come to a decision; of course bad news never traveled alone. With the passing of the first outburst came another, this one from a figure she recognized. Rhoslyn Vernal, the proprietor of her favored Gaian resort, calling out a challenge to her escort in no polite manner and bringing up events that she herself had been striving to forget. A flush darkened the sunkissed curves of Ever's face and a queasy feeling filled the pit of her stomach.

"I'm sorry, Roen," she mouthed with a shake of her head, brow furrowing. She would go after that drink, return to her escort before she was missed, but this was too much for her to handle at the present time. Ever turned her back to the scene and stepped away, searching the room. This time she did spot a familiar face or two, the succubis she'd seen once or twice at her own bar seated at a table with Viviana Merquise. Engaged in a card game, it looked like. That sick feeling worsened just as a waiter clad in a white tux jacket bustled by with an empty tray. The mariner reached out, hooking her svelte hand expertly around the young man's bicep.

"Double whiskey, SoCo floater. Quickly, if you please." the brunette sighed, just loud enough for the server to hear her over the crowds. The boy nodded and rushed off, leaving the mariner to fall to a seat at the nearest empty table. She kept one eye on the unfolding events, the other on the dance floor, and drummed her manicured nails against the linen cloth. Should have known something unpleasant was going to follow me through those doors," Ever mused unhappily to herself .

"That was a fun game," Alex said. Though he started off losing some cash, his conservative playstyle eventually played off mid to late game, getting a streak of four wins. The fighters here didn't know it, but the red head was quite the gambler back in his day. The last hand played had him tie humorously with the lady at the table, causing him to give out a hearty laugh.

"Well, that's something to remember the night by."

He stood up to his feet. "Well, I suppose we should do this some other time. It was a pleasure."

He gave James a wink, before turning around and walking off toward the foot table. It was nice that he gained some profit from that little card game. Though his real reason for joining was so he coul dstir James a little. As much as the guy could try to ignore him, the burning passion of their auras were generating too much electricity for him to simply forget that it was there.

"Damn" James thought.

Not a damn single hand was lucky for him tonight. What few good cards he did get were simply, not good enough.

Well, that couldn't be helped. Things happened like that sometimes.

"Enjoy your winnings, while it lasts lady and gentlemen", he grinned, sipping a red wine. The lady part was directed toward Miss Merquise, who did reasonably well. Rest of the party was a sausagefest.

"Well played. That certainly kept me amused mes ames! Enjoy your winnings young man!" The last part of her sentence clearly directed at Alex. The over-all winner of the game.

The Lamia turned her eyes to James and gave him the sweetest smile she could muster.

"Better luck next time, James." She almost purred, "If you'll excuse me, I believe mon Capitaine desires my presence." And with that she stood and patted James' shoulder in parting. "Aila, if you can convince this man to play another round of Poker, I'll think of a nice reward for you." She added to the succubus as she walked over toward Vansin with her glass of wine, (that should have been a martini)

"Finished dancing with the other devil? Why don't you accompany me to the bar?" She asked, "It appears the waiter confused my order. I wanted a martini. A dirty martini."

Aila would take a seat down next to the gentlemen and flash him a quick smile as her hazel eyes darted from him to the dealer who was already shuffling, Care to play one more round? Placing her fingers around the neck of her martini glass, her nails would tap on the cool glass before wrapping her fingers around it and bringing it to her lips. Placing it down she tousled her hair before turning back to the man with a raised brow awaiting his response.

"I can't imagine why." He said innocently, "The service in this place is appalling."

As she reached him, the pair began to walk toward the bar to re-order Viviana's drink.

"He punched me, Viviana." He whispered, "In the back of the head. Can you imagine? He must really like Ever. We're going to have fun with her."

He was almost giddy. The Lord of the Venom Signet could act very un-lordly in private. His ability to leap from morbidly serious to downright silly was a part of his charm, or so he claimed, one that kept his allies amused and his enemies baffled.

"Speaking of fun, did we have that delivery sent to Warrick yet?"

He might have mused longer, but a waiter walked by with an empty tray. Vansin's arm shot out and blocked the poor man's path, and with a small heave he forced the fellow to stand before the pair of Signet elite.

"My lovely guest would like a dirty martini. Quickly." He growled, exposing a pair of wicked canines that he did not always appear to have. They created an aura of ferocity that he rarely summoned. He was not generally a fan of physical compulsion. He preferred more subtle methods.

But it was certainly faster. And it made the waiter scurry off at comical speeds to fulfill his request.

And done! Rhoslyn made his way through the crowd and stood near the door, drawing his saber and giving it a few idle twirls in his right hand, wand at his left. Even though he would prefer to simply get a "yeah, whatever, I'll do it later, ******** off" or something like that, he wouldn't put it past any evil person to be properly paranoid and attack first. Also, he could make a point much better with it.

He was nearly there when suddenly, LOUD DISCORDANT MUSIC-FART!

He turned and looked over his shoulder and could have sworn that he saw something shiny and tuba-like over thataways. It was rather amusing: although one of the fey loved to be the center of attention and was of the vaguely-goodish Seelie, and the other was of the generally-evil Unseelie and preferred to just wander around looking pretty, there was one thing the two had in common that said it all: neither of them liked it when other people stole the spotlight. Assuming that he'd seen things, although still pretty sure he'd just seen the Seelie woman aurally raping Roen's ears.

Nah, couldn't be, it was just his rage combining the two into some deathmatch fantasy. Bah, humbug. He leaned against the wall, twirling his wand in his fingers absently.

Rylen had wandered back into the ballroom shortly after Isabella had to take her call, right around the time that various s**t started to go down. The interruption to their time together was regrettable, but Rylen knew that whatever it was had to be of grave importance to her. He reentered the ballroom with his ears perked and his eyes opened for any sign of danger. Of course, he heard and saw several such signs--it was only natural given the kind of ruffians a fighting tournament attracted. Most of these situations, however, resolved themselves within minutes.

The half-wolf made sure to keep Robyn in his sights the entire time, to come to her assistance if it seemed she needed it. She was not the type that needed someone protecting her, but he was merely looking out for her and watching her back like any good comrade. It didn't seem like she had any of her weapons, after all. At the same time he also turned his attention to the various entrances and exits, looking for trouble going in or out. Isabella was still outside. As an expert thief, she was good at keeping herself safe, but that did not make it any less worrisome for the half-wolf.

With each incident more or less clearing up, Rylen made his way over to Robyn, deftly sifting through the crowd as if it was impossible to push him off his balance or keep him from passing. Rylen noticed the boy had walked away and the masked man she had been speaking with had started to dance and masterfully play a violin he had pulled out of his cloak. Rylen was not exactly sure if he would be interrupting anything, but he figured Robyn had a second or two to herself.

"Hey," He offered a casual greeting to her as he came up by her side, a light grin on his face and a friendly glint in his crimson eyes. After what they had gone through together, she was the only other person in attendance that could evoke a friendly expression from him. He nodded his head in the general direction of all the commotion erupting throughout the room, given their perspective from being off to the side. "Not surprised the evening came to this, or to see you here for that matter." He paused, giving her a very obvious once-over with a flash of a teasing grin that showed his fangs at the sight of her dress up close.

"Well, maybe a little surprised." He said, mocking her playfully. He really was not much for small talk and the typical "How are yous." However, he had not seen in Robyn in a couple of months. Hopefully there had been no friendship lost between them. But then with Robyn he ran the risk of inciting the ire of the fox-demon inside of her. From experience, he knew how well that could go. "You're in the tournament, too?"

Viviana said nothing to Vansin's comments about the service. But the look she gave him spoke volumes as to what she thought on the matter.

"I don't believe we will 'ave any fun with Ever." Viviana replied in a hushed whisper. "She fulfills 'er purpose perfectly as it is now."
In truth, Viviana just did not wish Vansin to begin toying with the young mariner. She liked her, in the short time they had spent together she had found her to be a very sound minded young girl. One of those salt of the earth sort of people that reminded Viviana of the accquaintences of her youth.

"And The Other will be sending Warrick the package. I'm sure she will appreciate the gesture..." The serious expression on the Lamia's face suddenly became a grin of the wickedest sort, "We are so considerate, mon Capitaine." She said, barely holding back the laughter. But in Viviana's opinion, Warrick Lavermann deserved everything she got. She had allowed a very lovely bakery to be broken apart, and then, she had failed to lend her support to her comrade on the battlefield. Viviana couldn't imagine a more worthy gift for the Paladin than the one that was being sent her way.

She cocked her head to one side and rested her hand upon Vansin's forearm as he terrorized the young waiter.

"Really, you didn't 'ave to do that." She told him, "I could 'ave just ordered from the bar directly."

Ed stared off into space, hardly hearing Roen, if not for the fact that the Devil was right next to him. The punk raised the drink to his lips and took another sip, looking all around him for the first time since he'd sat down. His synthetic eye flashed around, making note of the positions of all the people he recognized. None of them were his sworn enemies, though one of them did stab him at the very end of the Dark Tournament. Sokoya. The chick who fought Roen in the finals. Small world.

The cyberpunk's eyes moved and settled on the Darkened Devil; he grinned for the briefest of moments before deadpanning and returning to his drink. "You could of. I could of been chasing skirts and drinking myself dumb instead of trying to get you out of trouble. Can't change it now. Don't think I would if I could, boss." The cyborg grinned again and almost took another sip of his drink. Then..

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK!!

First off, oww. Second off, oww. And third, oww. Edward instantaneously spun around in his bar stool, facing the Summer Fae who'd been rude enough to play a tuba directly into their ears. The tattoos which curved up his right hand and forearm, and covered a majority of his flesh and bone body would be familiar to Stella. Possibly inducing some sort of thought of home. Of course, Edward wasn't of the Fae. That much was clear. But he was clearly branded by her people, a branding which claimed ownership. He was someone's slave. Someone's escaped slave.

Without even a word or thought, the cyborg threw his drink directly into the Fae's face, not letting go of the glass entirely being the only evidence of any remaining kindness in Ed.

Someone tugged on his tail and uttered his name. Genuinely curious; but still mildly put-off with the way things were going in the ball, the Devil swiveled in his stool to look at the girl who demanded his attention, glass of Southern Comfort still in his left hand. And just as Roen turned around to face Stella, the brass tooting girl blew an earful of bad notes into the Devil's face. Gritting his teeth and shutting his eyes tightly, Roen's anger took hold and guided his body to do what needed to be done to both shut the brass player up and enact the appropriate vengeance upon her person.

Whereas Edward was nice enough to douse the fae with his drink minus the glass, the Devil was a monster when consumed by anger. And so it was that he swung his left arm and hand, glass and all, into this young Stella's face with the full intention of shattering the tumbler into her pretty cheek, along with slapping his roughened palm into her face. SoCo splashed everywhere; but that was besides the point. Roen was aiming to snuff Stella right out of her heels with his brutal and ungentlemanly swing.

PostPosted: Sun May 30, 2010 10:43 pm

Splash!

While Stella wanted to gain revenge for the loss of attention, she'd completely forgotten what to do after she blew the tuba in his ears. He seemed pretty unphased by it, as it only succeeded in pissing off him and his companion.

As the tuba-toting fae was quickly doused in the face with a half-drunken glass of alcohol, and her eyes began to sting. Her eyes reddened and her vision blurred, as the blonde fae was irritated. She saw the blurry outline of Roen rearing his own glass and fist just as she began to retaliate.

Turning at about a 45 degree angle to the two at the bar (to keep the large end of the horn above her head) and held onto it tightly.

CRAAAAASH!

The Devil's glass shattered on top of the tuba, creating a rain of sharp shards that exploded atop the brass instrument. Some struck the fae beneath the instrumental shield where it did not cover her, lodging shards and marring the smooth, tan skin of her arms and cheeks sparingly with glass.

"AAAAAUGH!" she yelled as she charged toward them, trying to barrel into both the Devil and the cyberpunk, to knock them both off of their stools and onto the floor. She went a few steps past them, whether she hit them or not, and tried to rub her eyes to get them to stop stinging.

Stella's glamour was beginning to fade, leaving her in a cut-off t-shirt and jeans. Parts of her appearance still looked glittered, as her illusion faded away.

Crash!

Glass shattered, blood flowed, and the Devil's rage only increased. Man, woman, child, it didn't matter in the face of a being that just wanted to cause as much hurt as he possibly could with his bare hands. One might have been broken, the other glittered with ruby shards of his tumbler; but that didn't stop him from rising up to his full yet modest stature and confronting the Fae who tried to barrel into both he and Edward. Uttering a foul oath and lifting both of his hands, Roen's fingers would spring open and launch towards Stella's neck, hands groping to wrap around her slender throat to throttle her. And as Roen did this, he planted his feet firmly to the ground and flared his tail out, leaning forward and into his lunge. Through blood, glass, and pain, the Devil wanted to choke this young woman and hear her gurgle; he wanted to feel her bone crack and splinter in his clutches. This wasn't a man - this was a monster.

And in his monstrosity, he wasn't even vaguely aware of the burning sensation in the tail that writhed violently behind him.
