Alex laughed. "This isn't to drink." She said untwisting the cap and pouring it over the tied mans head.

OK, you scoundrel, Aura ranted in her head. She said nothing and moved nowhere, but in her head she had the boy at knifepoint. Where are the Gilfaxes? Why did you kidnap them? Who's the mastermind behind the scheme? Why are we trapped on grounds? Who else is involved? Why--
She stopped. This isn't helping.
I already know Elias is behind this.
He's not. Elisa obviously knew beforehand.
He's the traitor. He was the one in Germany less than a month ago.
"...anyways, we're here taking a stupid test about American history while Elias gets to travel to America and stroll on Wall Street. Spoiled brat,"

"I'm serious! Why does he get to travel around the world with that freaking governess of his? I don't like her very much anyways. She likes her, but I'm certain she hates me."

Elisa perked up mischievously. "That was because she condemned my dress. And anyways, I think she disliked the rice I dropped more than the ruining of her dress."
Aura rolled her eyes. "I think she's nice."
"You think everyone's nice, Aura. You like my brother for pity's sake! And he's cruel!"
"I don't--"
"to me," Elisa sighed in compromise. A moment passed in silence. "I still don't want to take that American History test. We live in Ireland!"
"Actually, he doesn't get to America until next week. He's still in Germany now."
"America, Germany, China, Australia, does it really make a difference?" but Elisa's bad mood had evidently dissipated because she stopped ranting and fished out her textbook. "Let's study then...."

You're crazy. The evidence is plain. Look at the convict now. He's looking to Elias for defense or something.

Aura pressed a hand against the wall for support and was tempted to wander away. But even if the mental debate gave her a headache and heartache, she picked up the clue pad and flipped to a clean page to transcribe the interview.

He has a heavy accent, Lee noted. But not one I recognize-- German? He stepped forward. "Let's try the blunt approach first, then. Where are Waldo and Elisa Gilfax?"
He waited for an answer.
But their captive remained oppressively tight-lipped. "I'm not going to tell you anything."
"Looks like we're going to need to give him a little more incentive to give us some answers..." Lee quirked an eyebrow at one of the weapons Karin was holding. "Can I could borrow that?'

"No! We're not hurting him!" Alex said standing in front of him. "He'll talk to me. He usual did in that room." She said pointing in the direction of her captive room.

Why not? Aura was thinking, scribbling the transcript--including actions--as neatly and quickly as possible. The guilty one doesn't speak at all...
He's not guilty!
You can see it on his expression. Worry. Guilt.
Innocent! He just doesn't want to hurt another person unnecessarily, like Alex!
They're all guilty!

Karin said nothing during the entire exchange. She simply watched her reflection in her dagger. The one thing that betrayed any emotion was the white knuckles holding the weapon.

"Ok, Mark. Who are you working for?" Alex asked.
Mark sat tight lipped and silent. "Maybe you should ask Karin why she's holding that dagger so tight." He said after glanceing aroundthe room.
Alex's eyebrow shot up in confusion. She turned to Karin. "You ok?"

How does he know her name? Aura thought, looking up immediately. After giving Mark a long glare, she wrote what was said.
He works for Elias. Mercenary.
NO! Elias is innocent! Aura's glare shifted from Mark to Elias and the mental battle began again. She thought she saw different colored lines connecting people--relationship lines, based on what she had learned from the contact book she and Elisa had memorized.
The lines shifted and changed color, some fluctuating faster than others. Then the lines and the voices vanished abruptly, leaving Aura doubting her sanity.

Karin shook her head, "Mark? I've heard the name...weren't you one of the students that got in trouble in the spy school because you brought weapons?" The hand on the knife tightened farther as Karin fought to control her anger.

A spy trainee... Aura groaned mentally. I should have known it would come down to something sneaky. Spies and murderers and all that.
She stared at Elias with an expression that could have said anything--pity or suspicion, longing or repulsion, love or hate. Why, do you have to be involved?
