"Well," Mokutan pondered "They can't just go around telling everyone where secret labyrinths were, else they wouldn't be a secret now would they? The one the boss headed into had it's entrance on the near side of Mount Oto from here, just at the base of the mountain. It was hidden pretty well too, took the bosses sharp eyes to find it even though we had a vague hint at where it was."
"It's under the mountain?" She looked over her shoulder into the distance. Over the buildings and out over the fields to mountain in the distance. "But...how big is it? Did the records say?"
Mokutan shook his head. "Doesn't matter. Any labyrinth that's got finite dimensions can be beat if you just place your hand on a wall and keep walking. Only thing the boss'll have to worry about are traps and running out of supplies, but he brought enough with him, so he should be more then set."
Kimiko nodded. Never would she doubt her rivals knack to be prepared, particularly when he set his mind to something so stubbornly as to chase it into a deadly maze. She sighed. Maboroshi would be fine, she was sure, but she really did wonder how he got the nerve to call her reckless when he went off and did things like this...

Kimiko continued to move up the large tree, finally reaching near the top, the canopy breaking up as she neared the very top. "So, you must not really think this is that impressive huh?" Kimiko glanced over at Mokutan again. "You must see high places all the time, being able to fly I mean."
Mokutan nodded absently "Yeah, but that doesn't mean you really ever get blind to how cool it is trust me. I mean, you see trees all the time, you ever tired of looking at them?"
Kimiko hadn't really thought it like that. "I suppose I get what you mean..." she looked up towards the sky. "It must be so amazing...to be able to fly around like that. I'll bet Lord Kasuke could..."
Mokutan chuckled "Eh, flying ain't all that hard really, once you get the hang of it. The winds get easier to read the longer you ride them." he rolled his neck the other direction. "Though, you humans aren't really equipped for it."

Kimiko gave a slight sigh as she stopped in the branches just below the top, intent to catch her breath a bit on one of the few sturdy branches still up this high. "Well, we do lack wings and tail feathers." Kimiko pointed out with a slight chuckle.
"Exactly." Mokutan affirmed "It really is unfair if you ask me, but then, humans are the only ones who can use their spirits so freely in this realm, so I guess you can't really call it unfair when you think about it that way. I call it unfair only because I'm looking at it from an outside perspective. In reality, you humans could probably fly if you really put your minds to it, like you said, Kasuke and all his crazy wind jutsu could probably pull it off."

Kimiko gave a somewhat rueful smile "Yeah, but I've got a fire affinity, there's no way that I could learn those kinds of wind jutsu. My chakra's not built for it."
Mokutan seemed to take on a bit more peppy an attitude. "Hey, so what? So you can't do it through like wind Jutsu people, big whop, I'll bet you could still find a way to pull it off. People have done crazier things with chakra ya know."
Kimiko leaned back against the tree, wiping a bit more of the sweat from her brow. He was right, she'd heard of amazing Jutsu that had emerged in the passed, only to be lost with those that mastered them or merely by the forbidden nature of their immense power.

It really wouldn't be THAT much of a stretch to create a Jutsu that allowed Fire users to fly...but...how would one go about doing it? Kimiko's face turned peaceful as she turned her head upwards at the dancing leaves and cascading sunlight so close to her own face. Fire was powerful, and terribly destructive, but usually, unless it involved heat, it wasn't suitable for support type Jutsu like a flying one would be... it was almost always used to be purely offensive. A small wind blew by and ruffled her hair slightly, her eyes not moving away from the dazzling sight just above. She wondered...

"Kimi-tan...Kimi-tan...oy, Kimi-tan." Mokutan brushed the tip of his wing under her nose, causing her to suddenly let out a small sneeze."
"Achoo, hey, what was that for?" she looked at him with a wide curious eyes.
Mokutan snickered "One, that sneeze was adorable, two, you kinda zoned out there for a minute, were you serious trying to think of a way for fire users to fly? I mean, that sounds like something the boss would do after I mentioned it, but you didn't seem the type."
Kimiko rolled her eyes with a suddenly exasperated smile. "Hah, hah," she laughed ironically "As a matter of fact I was." she crossed her arms "Not that anything actually came to me though...I mean," she held up a finger. "Maybe if you were somehow make enough thrust to get off the ground? But then...controlling something like that would impossible, the best you could do was go straight up without totally losing control..."

Kimiko was finally lifting herself above the branches now, Mokutan critiquing her idea.
"Yeah, but control would just be on problem, building up that kind of thrust wouldn't be easy, you'd need a ton of chakra, and where would you make the fire came from?"
Kimiko thought about "Well, the soles of your feet would probably be the best place...that could give you best position to balence with, but even that would take an insane amount of chakra control...I can't even imagine making ANY fire come out of my feet. I mean, the Grand fire ball is one thing, it's a two part process involving Chakra that lights, and chakra that actually does the lighting...if you did it from your feet, you'd have to combine the process...and not completely burn your shoes while you at it, though I guess if you had that kind of control, then infusing your shoes to protect them wouldn't be so hard..."

Kimiko was but a hand hold up from the very top, the top branches now obscuring her view of the surrounding scenery. Mokutan mean while was now already above the canopy looking down at her. "Well, when you think about it that way Kimi-tan, sounds to me like you've solved the problem yourself." Kimiko looked at him oddly "Chakra control right? If you could really control your chakra that perfectly, and had enough concentration, you could control the flames coming from your feet, then adjust your position to control flight no wind needed. Cutting out the middle man so to speak."
Kimiko was looking somewhat astounded. It did actually sound possible. But...of course talking about it in theory was one thing but... She wondered if she could do it. Fly. If she, Kimiko Momoe, could create a Jutsu all her own that allowed her to fly, by her own power none the less. It sounded impossible but then...
Heroes did the impossible all the time.

Kimiko finally pulled herself up to the very top of the tree, now focusing chakra into her feet to stay there resolute as she gaze out at the training grounds, the village, and the mountain under which her rival apparently battled against the odds. She decided her and now she would at least try, give it her best, like Maboroshi was now. Who knew, maybe someday she'd really be able to fly, really be able to soar the skies like Mokutan could now. He'd been right, Humans may not have had wings, but they had a soul, and that in and of it self could give them wings if they truly pushed themselves to earn them... she looked at the clouds with a sliver of longing suddenly in her eyes. She'd always dreamt of flying, ever since she was little...could she really...?

Kimiko began to do squats atop the tree now, her chakra keeping her balance for her as she continued to attempt to push her bodies limits. "When do you think Maboroshi's coming out from that labyrinth you said? Tomorrow?"
Mokutan shrugged slightly "That's what the boss was guessing, he didn't know for sure though. He said I just assume as much."
Kimiko nodded absently, thinking this over. "I wonder if Dash Sensei's up and about yet...Raine said he was taking him to the hospital...so I'll bet Doctor Gray will have him up and about in no time."
Mokutan was picking at his feather with his beak again. "Old Chicken hawk eh? Ah, Goggles'll be fine."
Kimiko looked down at the bird skeptically "Goggles? What is with you and giving people nicknames?"

Kimiko stood still once more, catching her breath. She really had been pushing herself non-stop for a while now, and with these weights on that was no easy task.
"Oh, that?" Mokutan responded in answer to her question. "Habit I guess. It's not like you have the best speech edict either Kimi-tan."
Kimiko frowned slightly, giving him a chiding look. "Well at least I don't use the -tan suffix. How would you like it if I called you Moku-tan...wait..." Mokutan suddenly started roaring in laughter.
"It's for moments like that Kimi-tan, it really is."
Kimiko gave an exasperated sigh. There was no denying one thing, Mokutan was definitely Maboroshi's bird.

The wind blew by again, rustling her hair passed her cheek, her hand quickly reaching up to pull it back again out of reflex. It really was beautiful, Otogakure. Kimiko still only half believed that there could really ever have been a time when it was in evil hands. That only weeks ago there had been an evil organization underground near here that planned to bring back those days. It seemed so peaceful and calm...but...she knew experience how fragile that peace was. Her parents had done there best to protect her, but she remembered well Oto's recent harder times, the occupation, the days when danger lay on all sides to this place...even from within.

She was now preforming a hand stand, chakra in her hands keeping her balanced at the base, but her own strength all that was keeping her straight in the air. Maybe that was why she admired Kasuke so much for being the hero he was. He represented the peaceful times Oto was going through, and had already avoided war twice since his career began...even if he had had help, Heroes always had help from those around them, he'd still been the central character in the events that brought peace. She herself someday wanted that feeling, the sensation of having brought peace to this place...no, not just this place... but many others. So long as people were able to live happily with smiling faces, like they could now...then Kimiko herself would be content with her work, no matter what nation it was in.

Setting herself back into a regular standing position, she crouched down slightly, allowing herself to regain some of her strength. She was definitely putting her nose to the grind now, after today's training, she'd be sure to get a good nights rest...she'd certainly earned it.
"Man, you really look tired there Kimi-tan," Mokutan remarked. "Ya know you're a bit heavy for me to catch if you fall from up here."
Kimiko gave him a smile "Don't worry, I'm just catching my breath." she rolled one arm slightly, adjusting the weight in place there. "These weights are finally starting to get to me."
Mokutan turned his head and examined them more closely. "Huh, those do look a little on the heavy side. Man, you're a real hard hitter ain'tcha Kimi-tan, You working on being the brawn of the team or what?"

"Well, I have to be strong in order to wield my Katana, but even if I didn't I was feeling really cooped up after all the Chakra training I've been doing lately, I think this was just what I needed."
Mokutan tilted his head. "Chakra training huh? That's right, you were showing the boss those fancy clones of your earlier today, I remember watching that. You know even the boss couldn't clones even close to that, you really must have some serious chakra to pull that off Kimi-tan."
She rubbed the back of her head. "Well...I mean, I don't like to brag or anything...but..." she gave a devil may care grin of her own. "Yeah, I guess it is pretty impressive..."
