"Lets see...12 killing edges, 13 killer lances, 10 killer axes, 15 killer bows, a few elwinds, elfires, elthunders, and some divine tomes."

The spirit giggled once more, after the man had spoken. Having no intent to spook the him, Fefga decided to respond.

"He he he... Wow! And hear I thought that everyone was too busy to even notice me! I should have thought differently about you, though, he he he. You come pretty often, for The Door research, right?"

She kept her image hidden up to this point, but then decided to appear behind the man, floating in the air, and sitting with her knees up. "He he he... Hiya!"

(There's only one thing we can do with 69 potatoes.

MAKE FRENCH FRIES.)

"All right, then."

He looked around.

"Sue, you still have Myulg--"

But Sue had dashed off in the direction of the store-house.

But since that priestess was nearby.

"Excuse me, but I don't think we've met before. My name is Rhys, and I've been told by Soren to keep track of Sue's supplies, as well as your own. You are...?"

"Th-the Door? I suppose I... I suppose so... Sometimes I come just to relax..."

Soren was not accustomed to these sorts of spirits. Magic spirits, he was certainly used to, but he had never made contact with a spirit such as this. He jumped when he sensed the girl behind her and he whirled around.

Soren blinked hard at a form that was not previously there. So stunned was the mage that he let his guard down, especially since he could not detect any malice from her as of yet.

"...Hello," he responded rather quietly.

Amelia wandered up behind Rhys as he spoke to Victoria. She didn't say anything just yet, just stood there. She wanted to help, but not knowing what to do left her at a bit of an impasse. She wondered what had happened to what must have been a great deal of left-over stew from the night before and looked at Victoria curiously.

Obviously a Cleric, at least... maybe a Bishop? she thought to herself.

Fefga looked at him curiously and tilted her head. "Huh? Wassa matter? I don't bite! Well.. maybe a little, he he he!"

She then uncurled and descended to the man's level. "Hey, it's snowing outside! Wanna come play with me? It hasn't snowed like this since... Well, that's not important now. I can tell you things later, he he he!" Fefga smiled cheerfully at the man.

The mage stared at the spirit (it was rather difficult not to stare through her) and observed her movements. She seemed curious enough. However, he did have duties to attend to.

"I'm...sorry. We really are busy folk... I have to count some items in the storage, and it's awfully cold out." He shifted his eyes, looking for a window. "Did the storm die down?"

Fefga looked up at the man a little sadly, after he had spoken to her. "Aww, that's so boooring! Why don't we go- ..Hm? Who's that now...?" Fefga strayed from her conversation with the man and began to speak aloud to herself, obviously intrigued about something else that she sensed. "Ohhh, I recognize it now! He he he, I wonder what's going on! Maybe I'll say hi... depends if he's cranky." Fefga turned back to the man. "Kay, bye! Have fun doing boring stuff! He he he!" With that, the spirit disappeared and was gone as suddenly as she had appeared.

The light of the morning sun was muted by the clouds, but the terrifying storm had at last died down. The wind no longer tore into the skin with blades of cold that tore through thick clothing like it wasn't even there. The falling snow had weakened and only lightly continued to fall as the clouds, exhausted of their supply, thinned out. On the horizon, thicker thunderheads were gathering and moving in to reinforce their tired comrades.

The snow was piled up three feet deep, making movement incredibly difficult, and now as the sun began to illuminate the land, the shadowy shapes of monsters became clear out in the cold. Packs of wild Mauthe Doogs prowled atop the snow, their large padded feet supporting them and keeping them from sinking deep into it.

Mogalls peered through windows as they floated between buildings, swooping about and slapping at doors and windows with their tentacles. Occasionally, one would break in, and suddenly would fly inside, followed by several others.

Bumps rose in the snow, curiously, moving along. It was not entirely clear what they were until one came upon a lone Mauthe Doog and an enormous Bael burst out of the snow and grabbed it with its front talons, dragging the kicking and screaming wolf toward its massive, fanged jaws while it sank back into the snow again.

Screams periodically pierced the early-morning calm.

Shadowy shapes of larger beasts patrolled the limits of vision, great hulking monsters one would not dare to even begin to describe.

A mysterious invisible figure stood in a cloak, watching Fefga converse with a young mage. From the recesses of his robe, he lifted a gnarled hand and spoke in a low rasp, "Until I am measured, I am not known, yet how you miss me when I've flown..."

The mage was frozen. Snowflakes began to ignore the basic laws of physics as they hung motionless in the air. The wind ceased to blow as the figure approached Fefga.

"... You... I daresay I should not catch you assisting them in any way, little spirit." His voice was like sand rushing through an ancient, dust-clogged sieve. "The consequences would be beyond your imagination..." His eyes narrowed as his monocle glinted in the light shining off the bright snow. "You must tell them nothing." Even he had to break a smile, albeit a terrible, sinister and disconcerting one, at her the youthful look of sweet exuberance that Fefga always had. He reached out to brush her hair out of her face, and his withered, claw-like hand left glowing red marks on her ethereal skin that faded when he stowed his hand away again in the recesses of his cloak.

"Tell them nothing, or I shall personally see to it that you are delivered to the least pleasant of realms to live out eternity..."

He faded, back to whence he had come, and time started again without a jolt; snowflakes once again began to fall and collect atop their brethren.

Tibarn blinked. Before he'd even been able to speak, the older Soren, however the hell that worked anyway, had swept in and started issuing orders. Tibarn jumped to his feet, growling. The best way to intimidate any king is to undermine his authority as leader. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

It became clear a moment later that he was doing inventory, which was actually exactly what Tibarn was about to suggest. "... Whatever," he muttered. "We're not sending out a search party, in any case. The storm's begun to subside." He ran his fingers through his hair, frowning. "We can't afford to waste people on that... the monsters, too, are out in greater numbers..."

He looked away. "What we need most is food. Give me time to come up with a plan. You get on with taking stock of what we have."

Back in the main room, Renault had gone rummaging through his bag and began to pull things out of it. "Hmm, what do we have? I will add some of my own things. . ." After a few moments, the bishop simply shrugged and upended the satchel, creating a bit of a large pile on the floor to sort through. He then seated himself and began to sort through them. An icon of the Goddess, as he always kept one with him. A magical Amulet that he'd found. His own Divine tome was there. . . as well as two of the things he held most precious, the S-level tomes of Luce and Aureola. He carried two Elixirs, one that he'd just bought in case something happened to the other, and a Delphi Shield had been buried down at the bottom of the pile. ". . . Rhys. Are you well-equipped, tome-wise?" he asked. This was no time for sentimentality, so he would share one of the powerful tomes he had if needed.

For a moment, something seemed to flash through Renault's mind, and he frowned, rubbing his forehead quietly. "Strange. . ." he muttered, then dismissed it as mere happenstance. After all, nothing had happened here, had it?

Sue shivered again when she was hearing the sounds outside of breaking windows. She was only stopping her duties for a moment before going back to counting more things in the inventory. "I... cannot help them... just like when we fought Mad King Zephiel... I cannot... save every single life..."

"We are powerless that way." Victoria told her. "We're only human. Even I, who was blessed with Elmine's sacred light magic... am still only mortal."

And just like that, she was gone.

"Curse the stars!" Soren exclaimed, keeping his voice somewhat quiet. "What did she just say? She said it hasn't snowed like this since some time she didn't specify..." His eyes glanced the walls frantically. But he could not see nor sense the spirit. "No, blast it all, I've let something important slip through my hands..."

He quickly shifted through his mind, determining whether or not to report this occurrence. He would seem like a fool not to, but his blunder was embarrassing enough. Biting on his lower lip, Soren quickly glided to the storage room, hoping to put it out of his mind. He had an awful feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Soren was completely oblivious to the stop in time.

He winced at the scream of a demon somewhere in the background, yanking open the storage door. Soren sucked in his breath. They needed to move quickly.

"Those... sounds." Sue shut her eyes, listening for a moment. "They're getting closer?!"

The nomad's heart was beating at a fast pace. At least before, during Madriana's takeover, this place was safe, but now... was it not even a haven for the group? Where were they to go? Were Sue and the others... to abandon their homes here forever, to scatter into other FE guilds filled with Brawl-Tards?

Amelia drifted away from where Rhys was and towards the window. The sounds of combat had been obscured the night before by the howling winds, but now... Amelia flinched as she heard screams and the noises of monsters attacking what could be anything -- buildings, other monsters, innocent people...

"If we weren't trapped by this stupid snow, I could go out there and get rid of at least some of them...! I've fought all these stupid things hundreds of times, I know how to take them down!" Amelia whispered under her breath. She slammed a fist into the windowsill and stared hard out the window, trying to ignore how high the snow packed on the ground.
