Pen waited with slight impatience, tapping a rythmn on the ship's side with her fourth and second finger. For a moment she openly contemplated taking the ship and leaving without Eric, but knew from experience that she wouldn't have any clue how to fly it.

Eulalia Danae Pen waited with slight impatience, tapping a rythmn on the ship's side with her fourth and second finger. For a moment she openly contemplated taking the ship and leaving without Eric, but knew from experience that she wouldn't have any clue how to fly it. Eric walked into the engine room, calling out for Hattie. "Hattie! Where the hell are you?!"

Hattie looked up from where she was wrapping the dirty rag around her wounded finger. "Eric? What the hell are you doing here?"

"I had work to do here. Why the hell are you so mad?" She pressed the rag against her finger, cursing at the burn.

"I told you to take care of the Star's Light and your crew while I was gone! Running off to fix your ship for the whatever I'm gonna be gone for isn't how you do that, Hattie! What the hell has gotten into you!?"

"I fix things. That's what I do, Eric." Her voice was unusually calm. "I'm not going sit on your ship and hope that you're gonna come back to me. I'm not a sitter. I'm a fixer."

"Hattie, there's plenty to be fixed on the Star's Light. You and your's have been drifiting since the Kore came down on us. If you want to fix things, fix the s**t that matters. Fix the ties between family, Hattie. You. Are. Their. Captain. Quit skulking because your half of a man husband might get turned into a scorch mark. They need you, Hattie."

Hattie raised her hand and slapped him as hard as she could. "Eric, you're important to me! They'll be fine! Don't try to get me to calm down by being a martyr!" She closed her eyes a moment, determined not to cry. "I can't be a house wife! I can't sit here and hope that virus doesn't kill you and take you away from me! You watched me deteriorate when I was sick, but I can't do that for you! I can't loose you!" She knew she didn't make any sense, but she couldn't help but crumble.

There is NO better pilot on this ship or the Star's Light than me, and we know it. THe Dialanche is the only thing we got that that can get here there, and I'm the only one that can fly it. I'm not being a martyr, I'm making things work with what I got, and that isn't a whole hell of a lot! It sucks to admit my own mortality, but I very well could die from this plauge, and all I have to go with is Pen's word that she ain't hot yet. I need you to go back to the Star's Light. I need you to keep an eye on Absinthe, and the rest. Magellan can only do so much. I'm not asking you to be a housewife. I'm asking you to defend. I'll be back."

Hattie shook her head, her arms shivering as she clenched her fists and held back her emotions. "Eric..." She shook her head and shoved past him to leave the Rioreet. She didn't know what to say.

"Don't make promises to me, Captain." She said in a dark voice as she stalked back to the Star's Light. Part of her wanted to turn and kiss him or have him kiss her goodbye, but her pride wouldn't let her.

Piper smiled when Eric boarded. "Looks like things went well."
Hattie stomped back to the Star's Light, stopped only by the tall, four armed figure that greeted her. "Hello, Hattie, I'm Sigil's replacement." He smiled and offered the lower arm on his right side.
