"Alright! Come on!" Ember said, racing ahead. "Maybe we'll find Choplicker too!"
All the elves present experienced a momentary pang for those who were not with them. The list was long. Strongbow. Moonshade. Dewshine. Scouter. Treestump. Clearbrook. Dart. Shenshen. Suntoucher. Torah. Savah. Newstar. Rainsong. Wing. Windkin. On and on the list went. Venka. Clearbrook. Pike. For a brief moment, Redlance even missed the trolls. The palace, Timmian the high one. The wolves. All gone. But they were here together, and maybe, maybe the others would show up as well. Maybe. Redlance took a deep breath and watched them leave. He heard a rustle of cloth and turned. Leetah was gone as well.
Nightfall chuckled. *Our cub is entirely too much wolfrider* she sent to him. *we never hear here come and go.*
Redlance smiled and nuzzled her. As usual, they were on the same wavelength, completely.

Cutter set off with his cubs after Tyleet. If the girl could slip away so easily, she would be a great hunter when she got older. All the better that she was coming on the next eve's hunt.

"Perhaps we should head back to newfather tree," Redlance said softly. Newfather tree. How many would they go through. Determination raced through him. This would be the last. So, he would make it his best. Never again would humans chase them from their holt with fire. Never again.

Nightfall knew that look in his eyes, and she knew the best way to handle it as well. He needed to feel useful in a way that wouldn't harm his soul. Luckily, her Redlance was amazing, it was so easy to get him to do something that was useful, and still allowed him his gentle nature. "One favor first, love?" she asked softly.

"Of course, lovemate, lifemate," he said, nuzzling her. "Anything."

"A spear," she asked looking up at him. She needed a new bow too, but that could wait. After all she would need to make arrows at the same time, and she had no arrow heads or feathers prepared.

"For the hunt?" He asked. She had her bow, he knew. They would need more arrows soon, but they both had their bows and daggers. She almost never used spears though. The lance was more his weapon.

"Actually, for fishing. Caelestra doesn't like raw meat, but she will eat fish, and Leetah loves fish. I tried spearing some with my dagger but..." she shrugged. "Did not work as well as I had hoped. I also thought I could teach her spear fishing."

That was so like his love, to think of some one else that way. "I could make you each one, but they'd have to be wood tipped. I don 't have any troll forged metals, and we don't have any bone to work with."

"Wood is good to start with, I'll get some bone from our prey. We'll make new weapons for everyone, if you want. New bows, arrows, wood and bone knives, show them we don't need the trolls."

He nodded. "After the howl then. But I'll make the lances now." he knelt before the tree and focused. The wood bent to his command. it wasn't easy, but that meant that the wood was sturdy.he encouraged the tree to put off a branch at the level he wanted to work. He shaped the branch to a long smooth shaft and a serrated arrow head, then he encouraged the connection thin enough that he could snap it free without harming the tree. he shaped the end smooth. Then he began the process all over again.

Nightfall took the first spear and tested the heft and weight. Perfectly b alanced, but thats what she expected from Redlance. His plantshaping abilities were amazing. She felt her pride swell up. She was so proud of him. She still remembered the first time he proved himself. And Cutter's reaction when he found out. It wasn't the way to hold on to such memories, to hold pieces of the past, but she treasured those moments, and would rather loose her arm then any of them. Cutter, of all chiefs, would understand, however. As would Leetah. She knew how lucky they all were, how lucky the cubs here, to grow up around so much love. Warmth. As he finished the second spear she nuzzled his neck. "Lovemate..." she murmered.

Redlance finished off the second spear, and pulled it free of the tree. He looked to Nightfall as she nuzzled him, and saw the love in her eyes. Warmth filled him. How had he ever gotten to have such an amazing wolfrider to call his own, to share his heart, his furs, his cub, his life.

Nightfall nuzzled him again. As much as both of their minds were suddenly filled with the image of their furs, warm and waiting back in father tree, as they sunk to the ground, they both knew it would be daylight before they returned to them. And such was this new holt, that neither of them cared.
(All before this point with Nightfall and Redlance has been used for their breeding logs on 6/15/09. As they are busy, we may resume with our normal story line.)

Time was indeed an odd thing in this new holt. It seemed they had no sooner begun to gather their leathers when Nightfall could not get dressed. Confused they watched as she swelled. She sank to her knees and moaned in pain. Panicked, Redlance sent desperately for Leetah.
Leetah raced to them worried, and her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her. She slid to the ground and placed a hoof on her friend's side. Her eyes widened further. "That shouldn't be possible," she gaspsed. "Highones"
"What?" Redlance said, now on the ground as well, his lifemate's hoof in his own. Had the wound some how reopened and festered despite leetah's healing? Was their magic going sour after all?
"She's with cub... And... about ready to give birth" Leetah said.
"Cub..." Redlance said, eyes wide. The highones would grant them a second cub? And so soon? If woodlock were here... "Wait.... how.... She wasn't with cub an hour ago..." He knew what they had done, but there had been no recognition, no healer...and it had been just minutes before....
Leetah shook her head, not knowing, and wishing the highones had thought to send Shenshen to act as midwife were there to be this many cubs born so soon!
Nightfall cut into the conversation by screaming.
Leetah focused on her. "The cub is coming... Hold her!"
"Always" Redlance agreed, holding both of his mate's hooves.
Leetah Worked with her and soon the first cub was born. She gently handed Woodshot to Redlance.
Redlance took the cub in one foreleg and held his mate with the other. He bent to show the cub to Night fall when Nightfall screamed again.
Amazed, Leetah helped bring the next cub into the world...and the next and the,.... "Five" Leetah said, exhausted, though she knew it couldn't be a patch on how Nightfall felt.
"Five cubs...." Redlance whispered.
"Five," Nightfall echoed, holding Amberheart in one foreleg, and Nightwhisper in the other. "Without recognition or even....time..." she whispered.
Redlance was holding Woodshot and Sword fall, leaving the last baby with Leetah, and none of them knew that the surprises were still coming.
