watashi wa Carlo desu.

juuhachi desu.

Amerika jin desu.

San Diego ni sundeimasu.

Dozoyuroshiku!

I've been taking Japanese lessons for 5 weeks now but I’m having a hard time remembering it stressed I'm going to Japan in January for two and a half months to study Japanese and hopefully I’ll learn it better there.
I could be mistaken, but isn't it juuhachi-sai desu?
Yeah, you have to include sai(歳) in there. It's a suffix.

なぜなら日本語では、年齢は才で知識を意味して知識をえるために年をとりなければならないと思います.

(Because in Japanese, age has to do with ability. It think that to gain knowledge, one must grow.)

It's just the way things are done. You can't count on explanations for grammar points in Japanese. They would take too long, there isn't one for everything... And, well, you'd probably go insane. gonk

Like in French, J'ai 16 ans. I have sixteen years.
Japanese, Boku wa 16 sai desu. I 16 years is. Roughly.

That's why languages are cool. Makes you think of abstract concepts differently. cool

If she can explain every trite detail of a language, all the more power to her. It has no value other than a mnemonic device; there are better ways to remember grammar points. Accepting them without over spectating being one of the best.

The only time I can't understand her is when she uses kanji with no kana, when I'm in a hurry or when I'm tired. Otherwise she's been a great help. I just hope she finishes teaching particles.

こんにちはみなさん!

はじめまして。ビッキーと申しますけど、蓮(レン)と呼んでください。19才です。今年の3月から徳島大学に通ってために日本に住んでいます。

FYI,私は本当に女の人です。^_^

よろしく。

And if you didn't catch what I said, I said, I'm Vicky, but please call me Ren (means "lotus," and is the kanji I use for my hanko), I'm 19, I've been living in Japan since this March to go to Tokushima University, and, FYI, (if my name didn't give it away) I'm actually a chick. ^_^

I know my Japanese isn't fluent, so, go ahead and correct me whenever you want. And by "correct," I mean, please be nice to me, and not rip me a new one about how wrong or stupid I am, please. whee Also, my Japanese might be a little wonky because Tokushima has a dialect kind of like Osaka-ben. Also, I talk mostly to students, so I'm more used to how they talk then using "polite" speech. And on top of that, I talk a lot with other non-native foreign students, whose Japanese is also not perfect.

Nice to meet you all. ^_^

Ah, sorry for the double post, but I see there are no books listed on the first page. Might I suggest, Minna no Nihongo. Very good text, IMHO. 3nodding

I didn't get all of that because I'm still learning some kanji, but I believe everyone is みんなさん instead of just みなさん.That’s the only thing I see wrong, but like I’ve said before,I’m still a beginnner. xd

My prof.s told me you can use either. *shrug* Whenever I write one, they tell me to put the other. I've given up. I have more important things to worry about, than a silly "n." blaugh
