The snake youth gave a small grin. To almost anyone else it may seem like slight joy of appreciation over the fact that his sempai acknowledge the large amount of animals they brought back. While he did take pleasure in that fact since it was his first time hunting such a large amount of prey, there was also another reason. Shisei was mentally giving himself a pat on the back. “And just like that I’m off the hook.” the tactician brain thought. Maya did not seem to want to delve any deeper into the conversation which was fine with Shisei. She had also acknowledged their work, which means she hopefully isn’t too angry with them. Amber suns traced over the Tategami woman’s form as she began her own work on the animals. It was an observer watching a specimen at work. The snake child felt he was beginning to understand her, if just by a little. She had a pent up rage, but also had control. Something the maverick did not think she had if pushed too far. It was still hard to say her exact feelings for the trio. After all it seems that the wild woman could care less if they lived or died. The only reason probably being Shinichi. Then again she did stop the fight at the barn. How that ending might have turned out if she was not there only Shisei knew. The woman was forgiving to some degree, but also did not want to get in trouble with Ero-sensei. He was and still is the bigger problem. The Orochi survivor would need to contemplate how to deal with that man in the future if he got wind of the weapons fiasco. After all a happy Ero-sensei meant a happy Maya. And a happy Maya meant, the trio had another day to live.

Karite finished pounding the ground and felt his anger subside inside him. His life had one shine in his life right now and he day to day task would prevent him from being with her to long. He had to train he had to be strong he had to be something more then what Maya thought of him, what he thought of himself. Getting back into his stance Karite blew a strand of lose hair from his vision and peered across thew grounds at Maya. He had tunnel vision, everything around him was blurred except for that little target. That was his motivation. That was his reason for pushing so hard. Keeping her in his sights he dropped to the ground not letting her sleep from his field of vision. Rising up from the ground he knew that he was further away from beating Maya then ever before. He was playing the wrong game and he saw that. He was going to have to play hard ball and that was just what he was going to do.

Kore stood up from the last hit and felt a little dizzy. flopping around like a fish out of water the cub looked at the tree now seeing doubles of everything. Trying to focus on the tree. Kore began to slowly pick up speed and tried he best to hit the tree but came no where close. He feel short because of the dizzy world in front of him. This might take a little longer then the cub thought. Being as strong as Baki was going to be hard.

Her tawny eyes followed Karite and Kore, and even met with Shisei's...though just once. She lowered her gaze, unhappy, but moderately satisfied with the hunt. She had never used her own tekagi to hunt her dinner, because Baki could hunt for the both of them just fine, and she didn't want to destroy the skin with the way the weapon carved into flesh. With an eye on Kore, because the cub was going to end up hurting himself, she watched both him and Karite training. It was obvious that Karite was frustrated - Maya knew that it was another strike against her. She smiled to herself, but it wasn't a happy smile. It was agonized, because history had a nasty way of repeating itself. Maya sighed and rubbed her face slightly, wincing harshly when the wound on her cheek reopened, the brain on her hands making the wound sting slightly. She sighed and continued to study the would-be Tategami.

Now that things were simmering down to match the evening air, the snake child was feeling more at rest. His mind, that was thinking as fast as a pro writer could create words and paragraphs in a book, began to slow down to the pace of a child now learning to write. Now all his analyzing could be done at his leisure without having to worry much. There was still some need to be cautious. Maya and her lion were like a loaded crossbow. Shisei still did not understand enough of this woman’s ways to feel comfortable. Gold orbs peered at Karite. The boy had begun to do push ups. Perhaps relieving his anger through a physical means. Well it was productive. At least he did not continue trying to forceful change Maya. Although the snake child could tell that was not the end of the story of the two lion handlers.

Banana colored eyes returned to the lioness as she did her work. Little snake was beginning to see more of the amazonian's attitude. She was quieter than he expected. Shissei did not expect her to be the type to rant and rave. Still he was expecting more of a vocal person. Considering her actions in class and at the clinic towards the flame head, it was a natural assumption. Yet she was silent as an insect. Ironic that the feline like girl who walked around with a lion probably over four hundred pounds was as quiet as an insect not even weighing milligrams. Even when both their eyes met, she stated nothing. Yet the woman could not still be angry. Could she? Shisei continued his inspection taking note of her sad smile and then hurt cheek. Yet the woman prolonged. Maybe she did not notice it. “Sempai your cheek is wounded.” the serpent pointed out showing little concern in his voice. He was more intrigued to what Maya’s reaction would be.

Karite was feeding off his anger now and it would show until he was to tired to speak. He would keep training till all his anger had been used up. Maya was the source and exhaustion was the only cure it seemed. His already fatigued arms were beginning to fail. He needed to finish to more push-ups so he could move on and finish his first jutsu. His arms just wouldn't allow him to continue moving. As he rose from the ground his arms locked not wanting to do anything other than rest. His mind was commanding other. The body versus the mind was no the inner conflict within the boy. Maya was still locked in his stare and nothing was going to block her from him. She was the source of the fire and it was ragging wilder than ever before.

Kore Stood up and shook his head. He could see straighht again which helped. Looking forward at the branch he ran top speed and hit the base of the tree head on. Falling back over he noticed more snow had fell this time and was surprised to see there was still a good amount of snow left. The cub stood and shook himself off like any other cub would. Jumping back to his starting space a little dizzy he reared himself ready for another charge.

The woman made no response. If she wanted to remain silent about it then it was fine with him. He was beginning to get a better feel of her personality, although most of it still remained a mystery. The snake child could not tell if she was purposely hiding it or if certain aspects of her just lay sleeping until specific situations arose. There was one thing Shisei could notice about her though. Physically she was strong. The lioness dragged all the animals by herself back to the fire. There seemed to be no hint of fatigue or stress from doing it too. This also made Shisei remember a question he wanted to ask her. It came to him during the forest, but his brain remembered while Maya continued her work. “Sempai. You are a genin correct? Is that the correct term? How many other ninja are in your class and who are they?”. Little snake needed to know this information to know how many others he needed to be aware of on the island. Knowing his possible roadblocks ahead of time would help him plan correctly for the future.

Maya turned her eyes towards Shisei, reaching for the buck skin. She rubbed the animal's brains on the hide, and set it to soak besides the others. Why had that been so hard to do..? She pulled off her gloves, throwing them to the side and touching her cheek. For once she would have to clean the wound... She grabbed a piece of an older leather and dunked it in the bloodied lake-pond, washing off her face and turning back to think about Shisei's questions.

"Genin...yes, I am.." she said softly, though his other questions..?

"I don't know how many are left of the shinobi class. I'm not part of them." The answer was said simply, with no emotion, no remorse, no sadness. Maya had come to terms with that - at least, that is what she portrayed to the outside world. Inside, she hated it - inside it tore her up and she hated it more than anything.

Karite knew it was now or never. He would have to finish or his arms would not be able to finish the exercise. Letting his elbows unlock his body dropped almost to fast. Catching himself caused more damage then good. As he stopped himself before the ground he slowly and with much strain began to push through the initial force of gravity. grinding his teeth as he was now feeling the beads of sweet roll down the bridge of his nose. One down. Going back down this last one was the hardest of them all. Pulling back up he could feel his muscles screaming in his body. As he got back to the peek again he let his body go and sink into the ground again. "Damn, I dont know if I have enough strength to do any flips. I wonder if I can work on that chakra thing now?"

Kore was looking a little better this time then after his first hit. Not moving as drunken. He lined up with the tree and sank his body into the snow. Waiting as if in the forest again on the hunt he sprang with out a warning and charged at the tree. Last second the cub picked up speed for a second before impact. This time bring down more snow but not enough for his liking. It had to be free of snow and the cub would get there. He just need more speed. Shaking off the snow the cub moved back and ran further then before now eying the tree.

Sitting down the boy still eyed Maya and Shisei. Something was going down with him. If Karite had learned anything being with him was that he always had a ace in the hole. Crossing his fingers like Demon-Sensei taught him he began to search inside himself for the strange energy. It was much easier to find this time around it was almost warm. Karite looked at Maya and an angry thought came to mind his chakra reacted and began to leave his body. Pushing away the snow around him slightly. As he let go of the hand sign it stopped. Looking around him he was surprised that first off he could have found the chakra so easily. Secondly he was shocked that it had such strength to move the snow around him. This stuff was strong. He couldn't wait to learn what else he could do with it

Kore sat on his rump and shook his head out. Licking his snout he sighed as he looked around him. The cub was rocking back and forth like a drunken sailor on a bar stool. Wasn't hard to tell the cub was starting to feel the pain. As the cub soaked in his surroundings he could feel the energy of everyone around him. It was all negative all the time. It wasn't hard to see why either. A snake who was obsessed with himself, a girl with too much spunk for three of her. A Lioness with to much grief to care for anyone extra and a boy with so many emotions he could fill the sea. It was funny how much a little cub like Kore could see just by looking at this sad bunch of humans. Standing Kore looked at the tree again blinking his eyes furiously. Shaking his head vigorously trying to line everything up, but he just sat back down.

[Maya do you want us to stop training and go to the next day or should we finish up?]

Expressionless. That unemotional, detached tone. Shisei could have almost sworn it was an answer from his mouth. Although he may have given a few names. “Interesting…” the youth pondered. If the shinobi level of genin were put into groups then she should have partners. Yet she has denied it. As stated the girl ‘was not a part of them’. A unique tingling came of the snake’s skin. His eyes pivoted over to Karite to see what he was doing. The boy was doing his own chakra channeling. Something the snake needed to get back to soon. First though this Valkyrie needed to be further inspected. It was interesting how the feral diva and the artistic romantic were different. He, a flame burning for friends and a family. She, a glacier, detaching herself from everything else. Another intriguing feat is to why the boy desired to open the girl to the world. Learning these facts could prove useful into the future.

For now Shisei had something else in mind. His brain was trying to pull an answer from her, but she didn’t take the bait. Or saw it and refused to be lured in by it. So the maverick would be straightforward. He wanted to know just how well she matched up against his former, hackneyed, perfectly unperfect family. Specifically the older snake and that medical woman’s daughter. “Then how much do you know of Tenmoki Aya and Orochi Seshiro?” his breath said aloud. The youth let his arms cross his chest and pulled down the scarf so there were no mistakes of the names he stated. The gold eyes stared, awaiting an answer. Cause if this Maya was stronger than the step siblings, he would need no use for them in the future. If he ever saw them again.

[Finish the current training you are doing, then wrap it up. Also....someone reward me hahahahahahaa....no excuses, all three of you are crew. > smile ]

Maya stiffened visibly at the sound of those two names. Boy, this little brat knew how to push her buttons, didn't he? She turned towards him, a spark in her eyes as she spat out her answer.

"Seshiro-nii-chan abandoned me just like everyone else, and Aya, though a bubbly airhead, is the best chakra-user I know. She's gone too. I know enough about them to satisfy my knowledge, but I don't see why the hell you should care," she snarled, throwing an antler at the boy. She had probably overreacted over the simple question, but both of them had served their own portion of betrayal to Maya and she was not eager to relive the memory of it. She sighed, and rubbed her temple, slouching over and almost shrinking into a fleshy pile half her size. Baki curled up around her and closed his eyes, though his ears flicked around and kept tabs on the going ons around the camp.

The piece of buck horn hit the dread head across his left eye. This caused the small frame to stumble backwards till he tripped over his feet and fell towards the floor. The snake laid on his back with both eyes squinted so low that his eye sockets appeared to be two elliptical ink blotches. Under normal circumstances he would have been irritated and somehow lashed back. Yet Shisei knew all to well that the hidden capacity of strength Maya has far outmatched his. At least for now…. He remained motionless with a face showing no change. As if the attack never happened, all the while contemplating his superior. “She’s volatile. Quick to anger yet it quickly subsides.”. If the snake had to compare the girl to anything it would be an earthquake. One second the entire land could be calm and peaceful and then within the next it is usurped in pandemonium, chaos and rage. Then the next second could be as serene as before. The snake’s attempt to gain any info on Aya or Seshiro failed. All he knew now was that Aya was good with chakra. His throat made a small surly noise in response to just what happened. That question did not give the slightest of desired answers.

As the youth laid there he began to contemplate what type of relationship Maya and Seshiro had. His upper torso lurched up into a sitting position as the child contemplated this thought. The woman had said he abandoned her. Well no surprise there to Shisei. The snake teen abandoned not only him and Shimagakure, but the Orochi village too. Seshiro was treacherous, looking out for his own values. The last Orochi did not dislike Seshiro or his elder brother because of their betrayal. He could not get angry at them for trying to attain their own wishes. What annoyed him though was the fact they did not say anything or took him also. Then again, maybe they thought the serpent child would have been a hindrance. If so then Shisei could not also be angry at him for that. There seemed to be many questions that needed to be answered of the two, but those would not come soon. As the snake returned to his feet a sudden thought occurred to him. Could it be possible that Seshiro was Maya’s significant other? Something similar to Karite and Orika? Maybe that was the situation. It could explain her coldness that the reaper wanted to melt away. The snake youth held his left palm over his left eye covering it. His right orb opened half way not with its emotionless expression. The dread head felt he understood the lioness a lot more than when he first came here. Still this occurrence has unlocked a whole new puzzle that was just fascinating to Shisei. Knowing that the defector’s name riled her up could be useful in the future. As for the other genin, the serpent child was sure he could attain information on each of them with time.

Aznka

PostPosted: Wed Feb 25, 2009 10:18 pm

Throughout the battle of dominance, fairness, and sly spying, Orika had not said a word. In fact, she found there was nothing that she could say that hadn't already been said and nothing that she could say that would be of any interest to the others. Still, the girl felt the geyser bubbling within her as Maya silently derided the three for all their hard work. It was a smack to the face after a bloody battle, a final push to a person already teetering on the edge of a cliff wall. Orika grabbed a bowl of food and sat down alone, away from the others to wolf down her portion. The first bite tasted like gravel and Orika spat the portion out on the frozen ground, then set her meal to the side.

She looked behind her shoulders at the lion girl and grimaced. She too had been studying the pride leader. So afraid of their Kage and yet Orika sensed a certain level of awe the other girl felt for the man. What else could explain why Maya fixated on Shinichi, why she practically used him as a moral compass? She wondered what was the extent of their relationship and what took place beforehand to bring Maya to the point where she reacted so passively to their breaking one of her hero's rules. Then Maya said something that made everything click in Orika's head. Nearly everyone who had come into Maya's life before them had abandoned her. Aya. Seshiro. Kana. Kiyo. Tuhai. Shuga. Hiro, Kucha, and Resa. Even Ichi. The list went on and on. So it only made sense that Maya would stick closely to the few people who hadn't left her, namely Shinichi in this case. Though he was cruel and a lousy teacher, he was still there and at the end of the day, still caring enough to punish three unruly children. That was what mattered, that he had stuck around and taken on the toughest duties while everyone else ran away with their tail between their scrappy legs.

Orika's fist shook as she realized that she had clenched it along with her jaw shut in her frustration over Maya's complexities. Until one really thought about it, Maya's actions didn't make a lot of sense. As for her, she'd been thinking of just walking out on the Tategami, of what she now realized was the easy way out, rather than facing her difficulties head on. "I'm not gonna die, Maya-sempai, and neither are those two excuses for young men. And I'm not going to leave you either. You're stuck with us so we'll all have to learn to deal with each other. I can tell you have a tonne of things to worry about, so please let us help you. We'll try and be your new family so don't give up so easily, mkay? We won't leave you and we won't leave Shimagakure," Orika said quietly, yet boldly, "Although next time we hunt and you don't want us to die, don't make us get so much game without weaponry cause that's impossible. That was a bad call on your part, sempai."

Today she'd accomplished enough to warrant a diminishing of fear at the prospect of death. Somewhere deep within her, Orika knew Maya wasn't going to kill her or hurt her worse than she already was. That didn't stop the girl from adverting her rusty eyes, however, although she swerved her gaze around to land on Maya's dirty face a few seconds after. She wasn't oblivious to the fact that she'd have to sleep in the same tent as the unpredictable Tategami.
