Maelthra was lost within his thoughts as he rested against Amuriel. The overall peacefulness of their time together, as well as the feelings he felt and received from her were just overwhelming or so it seemed. He thought back a year ago, comparing to how he was then and now. Some things about him have not changed, but some things did that made his life seem so much better.

A year ago... I was alone, possibly even bitter depending on what went on. A year ago I would have never believed that I would find anyone to connect this deeply to... Amuriel... you really have done so much for me... I love you to no end...

It was then that a soft murmur brought him back to the present. Cracking his eyes open while lifting his head slightly, he noticed that his lover was now awakening from her slumber. Smiling as she did, he nuzzled her cheek before lifting his head up more to watch her.

"Did you rest well my love?" he asked softly, wondering if the short nap had helped ease her stomach at all.

Amierith

"Mmm.." Amuriel breathed a soft murmur as she stirred fully, lifting her head and groggily focusing her eyes on Maelthra's face. He was speaking to her, and it took her a moment to process what he had asked. She replied, smiling shyly, "I dozed off... It was a nice rest, but I'm sorry for falling asleep, love. I must have been more tired than my body had felt."

She looked out toward the sky, trying to discern the time of day, but her still sleepy eyes and fuzzy mind couldn't make out the brilliant globe's position. How long had she been asleep? Because of her dreams, it felt incredibly long, but she knew that dreams could cause a false sense of passing time. The turmoil she had felt earlier, the gnawing feeling of utopia on the verge of destruction, now was calmed. At least her rest and dreams had resulted in her reaching an acceptance of her own possible pregnancy, and she hoped the inner peace she felt with herself and the future she had with her mate would last. She doubted, though, that such an issue couldn't be resolved so easily, but for now, she was happy for the rest, both physical and emotional.

Blade Kuroda

"It's alright... you could probably use all the rest you can get."

Gently, he nudged her with his muzzle, trying to see if that would help her get out of her groggy state. Maelthra thought that she looked a little better now, even though he wasn't sure if she was feeling ill before she had rested. So with a soft smile, he just continued to relax against her, following her gaze towards the sky.

"It's been about a half hour since you feel asleep love," he stated, wondering if that was what was on her mind at the moment, "How do you feel now by the way?"

Amierith

"Ah thanks," she replied, chuckling nervously and blinking rapidly to try to clear her vision. "I wondered how long I was asleep."

Amuriel stretched out her neck and legs, her tail arcing into a deep "C" over her back. "Mmm... I'm feel much better. Did you manage to get any rest..." she asked, stepping up gingerly and shaking her body lightly. She was feeling much better. Not even a twinge of the former nausea had touched her stomach since she had awoken. Maybe the pain was gone for now?

"What now love?" she asked, bowing her neck to lick the soft fur on his muzzle.

Blade Kuroda
Smiling at his mate, Maelthra shifted away to stretch out as well, carefully unfurling his wings and extending them upwards while doing so. Once he was all stretched out, he glanced over at Amuriel and nodded to her question.

"I didn't sleep, but I got to relax quite a bit, which is always nice..." he started while gazing about and slowly getting up onto his feet.

"As for what to do now... we can keep walking around or head back home. Which do you feel would be better?"

Amierith
Once again, Amuriel eyed her mate's dark and vast wings, and as if in response, the wind gently pressed her own thin membranes against her back. Thinking on what they should do, she lifted her face to the breeze and inhaled the warm air.

"I think the walk is really helping. Let's continue?" she replied, turning her muzzle to Maelthra and smiling. There was still a lot of daylight left, after all, and the walk had been really nice and beneficial so far. She enjoyed being out with her mate like this... so peaceful.

Blade Kuroda

Smiling softly at his love, Maelthra nodded while stepping back to give Amuriel some room to stand up. He really enjoyed their time together here, so it was very nice to be walking about with her like this. As he waited a few moments, he gazed out towards the direction they were headed, wondering where their path would lead them exactly. Not just the physical path they were on but the one they took emotionally and possibly spiritually.

"Well then, let's get going again shall we?" he asked with a toothy grin before slowly beginning to walk on.

Amierith
"Alright," Amuriel chuckled, staring at his fangs before pushing herself into a quick lope to catch up with him. "Lead the way again?"

She walked parallel to him, her head coming up to his shoulder, wondering where their walk would take them that day. The weather was still beautiful, and she enjoyed the feel of the sun on her back as well as her lover's company.

Smiling, Maelthra watched as she walked beside him before going onwards, listening to the soft sounds of nature all around them. But as they walked, he paused as he heard something a little different from the usual rustling of leaves and chirping of birds. At that moment, the scent of blood wafted towards his nostrils, indicating that something was wrong somewhere.

"Hold on..." he murmured while trying to find where the series of angry snorts and grunts were coming from.

And a little off to the side, yet a good distance away was a fairly large wild boar. But it wasn't alone, nor was it the one that was injured. Behind it were two piglets, one which seemed to be bleeding from its flank. The large boar was facing the two elders, standing defiantly, and looking as if it was ready to charge if needed be.

What's this? Amuriel thought, catching a scent of blood on the wind that sent her spine tingling. At Maelthra's command, she stopped, following his gaze to the side and spotting the mother boar and her piglets. The sight of a wounded child, despite the large and fearsome mother seemingly tensing to attack herself and her own mate, caused Amuriel's heart to turn a strange lurch.

Poor thing... she thought briefly, before finally realizing their own danger. The mother seemed so defensive... Unwittingly, Amuriel took a step back.

At the sight of the three boars, Maelthra remained still, not wanting to provoke the highly defensive mother into attacking. She might not have had any tusks, but he knew she could probably do a decent amount of damage to himself or Amuriel if she was really determined about it. And the fact that she already had a wounded piglet probably put her even more on edge.

He knew that he would be able to strike down the mother if needed, but it wouldn't be without costs. Not only did he not want to leave her litter defenseless, he didn't want to put Amuriel in danger as well.

"Slowly move back Amuriel... and don't turn your back..." he whispered while slowly backing up as well.

The mother boar grunted and stamped her hoof into the soft earthen floor. When she saw the two elders move she made a false lunge, showing that she really meant business here, as well as to try and ward off the two. Though the larger creatures were backing away, she didn't relax at all, and still appeared as if she was going to charge them at any moment if they made the wrong move.

Without replying, Amuriel began to back further away, trying to move slowly as to not provoke the mother boar. She shifted closer to Maelthra, skiddish of the boar but realizing the mother was just frightened of them, two large creatures invading the space of her family. She hoped the little piglet would heal alright, but Amuriel knew better than to attempt going to help.

Suddenly she wondered: Is that how I will be sometime soon? A mother protective of my young? She glanced at Maelthra. Wait.. I wonder if there is a father around here too..

Maelthra glanced back at Amuriel to make sure she was alright as he continued to move away from the boars. As he did so, he heard another series of grunts off to the side. Shifting his red eyes over in that direction, he saw an even bigger boar, and one with tusks at that.

It must be the father... he noted while watching as the male board kept his head lowered while slowly advancing the two elders.

"I think we better hasten up our exit... Before they decide we're too big of a threat..."

With that said, he backed away from the family of boars a little more quickly, but making sure that none of his movements were threatening or aggressive in any way.

As she heard more noises coming from another direction nearby, Amuriel jumped lightly. Seeing the larger boar coming toward them, she scolded herself for the sudden movement. Obviously, this larger counterpart must be the father, she thought. Keeping close to Maelthra, she tried to hasten her steps.

"What do we do...? Where do we go...?" she whispered to him.

"I think we should just head home... I don't want to disturb them any further..."

The male boar turned towards Amuriel as he noticed her jump, letting out a low grunt before tossing his head as a warning, almost seeming like he would charge at the two without any hesitation if they didn't leave soon.

Seeing the male almost charge at them, Maelthra just eyed him more warily as the male was the one that had more potential to do them both harm. If a fight broke out, he certainly wouldn't get away from it unscathed. And chances were that Amuriel may end up getting hurt as well.

Once they were a good distance away from the mother and her pigletts, the male boar stopped advancing towards them, but his head remained lowered. For now it seemed that they were in the clear to go ahead and walk off at their own leisure.

Seeing the male boar turn toward her, Amuriel let out a quiet yelp and huddled against Maelthra. She picked up her pace yet again until she and Maelthra were further away, then she relaxed slightly, looking back at where they had left the boar behind.

"They were so protective," she whispered, letting out a sigh, "but I hope their little one will be alright..."

"Yeah... but to them, we're just big predators that are a threat to their young..."

Nuzzling his mate once they were in the clear, Maelthra relaxed while looking back to where the family of boars resided. He had never seen one up close before so he hadn't expected them to be so big. Still, he had heard stories from the humans of how wild boar can be extremely defensive and dangerous because of that.

"I'm sure the injured on will be fine... it was bleeding but I don't think it was that bad... And with its parents defending it so fiercely I'm sure no one would really be willing to try and make a meal out of it.."

Smiling softly now that the tense situation was up and away, he looked towards the direction of their home.

"Should we go ahead and head back now? How are you feeling by the way?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:17 pm

"I hope you're right. They're working so hard to protect their children," Amuriel replied. She nuzzled him in return and wondered... How was she feeling? Right now, she felt a mixture of emotions. Ebbing fear from the encounter and anxiety that the boar would come after them, but she also felt something else. A strange feeling of something familial. Would she and Maelthra be like that someday? Soon? Would Maelthra help protect their young like the boar father did of his?

"I'm a little shaken, but I'll be alright," she replied, smiling softly at him and walking next to him back toward their home. "What about you?"

Nodding, Maelthra smiled softly while hoping that he would be able to fend off any dangers as the male boar did. He nuzzled Amuriel gently while looking over towards her and thinking about his response, while being glad that she was alright.

"I'm glad to hear that... and I'm alright. I'm just relieved that they didn't end up charging at us... While I'm sure I could hold them off, I don't think I could do it without both of us getting hurt... so I'm really glad that we're all unscathed after that encounter.."

Shifting a bit, he shook his head at the thought of his love getting gored by the tusks of the boar. It was definitely something he didn't want happening any time soon.

"Yeah..." Amuriel replied, nodding. "I'm glad that the boar didn't get hurt either... the poor youngling was already wounded."

She shook her head sadly and glanced toward their home. She was beginning to be able to see the top of the cave and the waterfall above it. Something about the nearness of their home made her want to speed her pace. Maybe it was the comfort she knew she would receive there, or perhaps it was because she was beginning to thirst. Either way, she was getting tired. She was grateful for the walk and the peaceful time she was able to spend with her love, but she was ready to spend the remainder of the evening resting with him as well.

Nodding slightly, Maelthra nuzzled Amuriel's soft white fur gently before walking along beside her. Before long they reached the comfort of their peaceful home. Smiling softly he went on inside of the cave and onto the bed to relax. It had been an interesting day, but it definitely was one he enjoyed for the most part.

The elder got to spend some quality time with the one he loves, and that was something he would never want to miss out on.
