Well in my mothers point of view; what you do is you look at all the different religions, and list what they have in common; and then you follow that.

Honestly I do believe in God; I figure there's got to be some greater power (not necessarily omnipotent) out there. There's just certain things in life and history that cannot be explained any other way.

Anyway I figure there's a nickle and dime stuff policy. The fact of the matter is humans are chaotic beings by nature (note that chaos does not mean evil, just...unpredictable, unorganized, lacking true order.), and its impossible to go ones entire life without committing some sins. So I figure it would probably work like a scale; if the good things you did in life you go to heaven, or get re-incarnated or whatever; but if you did more bad then good, you go to hell, or get re-incarnated as a tree (They can live for hundreds of years, so it seems like a suitable punishment.), or thrown into purgatory, or whatever happens so they can pay for whatever truly horrible things that did wrong.

You're mother is a smart woman who sounds like she knows what she's talking about .
I don't have a religion. Personally I don't see there being an all seeing all powerful being who would be as big an a*****e (or lazy) as one would have to be given the state of things (genocide, murder, rape, recession, capitalism, people in general, global destruction), it just seems like God would have to be a kid with a magnifying glass.

I hope it is a nickel and dime policy, and your stance is a humane one (no irony intended) that I could get behind.

See though, that's where people go wrong with it. Look at earth and you'll see God just has a magnificent sense of humor. As for your comments about Genocide, Rape, Murder, etc etc, that cannot be blamed on god or whoever. Its our own damn faults and that's all there is to it. Remember, humans have "Free Will" we choose to do these things, no one forces us to.

Besides, God is suppose to be all about faith, altering things too directly would be PROOF rather then Belief. Its all about subtle. If you do things right, no one will be sure you've done anything at all.

But it seems to me God wasn't always about subtlety. In the bible God talks to every guy who seems to live on faith, and there are still people who do that. Do these people today get burning bushes or signs? And if God is not in charge of people (which makes perfect sense) than is he punishing every little village in the Middle East with hurricanes, floods, etc because they are all filthy sinners? Is every natural disaster God feeling wrathful? And while you can attribute many of these natural disasters to environmental conditions people cause, is that is?
I'm not trying to get into an angry debate over who is right, because I hate those. I'm just trying to let you see from a logical standpoint where I come from, because your points are logically where you come from and they all make perfect sense.

Understandably. My english teachers made it a point to mention that in some point of the year. Thus why we have the invention known as the thesaurus.
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 3:51 pm

When I finish my 7 page paper, I never want to see another dictionary or thesaurus ever again -.-;;

Heh. Personally I'll be seeing a lot of them if I ever manage to make it as an author.

If you ever make it as an author, I imagine they'll be a little longer than 7 pages... and will be called "books" I believe? razz

I meant a dictionary and thesaurus. When writing a good story the sentences need to flow like water.
PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2009 7:23 am

That actually makes a lot more sense.
Your sentences better flow like water, or you'll be no better than Stephenie Meyer: good storyteller, bad writer!

Alright, I think that was a little uncalled for.

I apologize, that came in the middle of a heated discussion between a girlfriend and I of that very topic.

Yeah, that was just uncalled for. Meyer is a horrible storyteller and writer...
