Antony grabbed a good handful of the paper napkins, heading back for the table with no clue that they had been talking about him. He cleaned up the ketchup before sitting down in the seat next to Delilah, as if afraid there might be leftover stains, even though he had cleaned it thoroughly.
At the counter Shade was giving his order, digging through his unnaturally deep pockets for the gold to pay for it before taking the number the lady had and glancing around. He caught sight of the black woman from the store before and grinned at her. "You're Manuela's mother, aren't you?"

Delilah scooted over a bit closer to the wall to allow Antony more room to sit. Then she folded her hands together and rested them neatly on the table in front of her. "Thank you," she directed softly at the boy.

"Hey Antony, you know they have people working here to do that, right?" she asked playfully, crossing her legs underneath the table. This was going ok, as long as no one spazzed out. But then again, Antony had sat there by his own volition. Interesting.
Estelle seemed a little startled by the comment, but smiled when she turned to face Shade. Oh, she remembered him from somewhere. The lake maybe? Yes, that was it, and some other places. He was.. Antony's father? "Yes, I am," she replied, "You're Shade, right?"

Shade grinned. "Yeah, I'm the coach. It looks like our kids are sitting together, though, so should we eat as a group?"
Antony smiled at Delilah, not bothering to ask what she was thanking him for. Perhaps she had the same problem with messes that he did! Then he looked at Manny, not too bothered by the criticism. "But it's gentlemanly to do something that you can rather than make others do it for you," he explained very sweetly. "And now you won't get your outfit dirty if you scoot over."

Delilah nodded in complete agreement with Antony. It made perfect sense and she had a feeling it was accomplished much faster than if they had waited for a worker to solve the problem. Also at his words, she took a moment to inspect Manuela's clothing and smiled. One of her hands came up to touch the bodice of her own dress while the other indicated her friend's top. "Very pretty," she said. "You look nice, Manuela."

"Thank you," Manny responded, blushing lightly. It was nice when people noticed her effort. And this denim outfit was one of her new favorites. She set her elbows down on the table, glancing over to their parents. Shade and Estelle looked like they were talking, and Kova was kind of off by herself. At least it didn't look like anyone was about to leave. Coach? Interesting, so there was one more teacher to cross off the "who are you" list. "That sounds like a good idea," she agreed, looking around the room for the purple woman she remembered from their coffee shop encounter. Ah, there she was, all alone.

It was smothly done, if he said so himself, Antony thought. They didn't need to know that he hated messes, especially ones that could ruin clothes. "So are you going to Liberty, Delilah?" he asked the new girl. Had he seen her there before?

Delilah's nose wrinkled in thought as she turned bright blue eyes on Antony at his question. There was the briefest of pauses and then she nodded, relaxing and smiling. "Yes," she answered carefully. "At least I think so. Mama," she paused and pointed across the way to the tall, lavendar-skinned woman at a table, "that's Mama, she said I'm old enough to learn things now. So I'm not going to be with the babies, anymore. And you?"
Which was probably the most words she had said together in her entire short life. This proved how much she enjoyed her company - whether they knew it or not.

"Antony and I both go to the Liberty Center school," Manny explained glancing over at her mother and Shade, "And um, so do Riley and Taki." Well, those were the ones she remembered. "When do you start, do you know?" she asked, looking glad that there'd be another friend there.

Antony waited for Delilah to answer, a little smile on his face. It would be good to have someone other than Riley to hang out with him and Manny in his mind. Riley still got on his nerves.
Shade started for the table where the kids were as soon as he got his food, sitting in the booth next to theirs and handing Antony a burger. "You kids mind if the parents join you?" he asked them with a grin.

Delilah looked up at Shade in a bit of shock and blinked, unconciously edging closer to Antony. "No, sir," she murmured. Then she looked back to Manuela. "Soon, I think. Monday? Mama says I have gym."

"I don't mind Mr. Shade," Manuela told him cheerfully as her mother passed her a meal of chicken nuggets and apple slices. Then she turned back to Delilah with an excited grin, "Then maybe we have gym together too."
Estelle carefully arranged Manuela's food so she wouldn't easily knock her drink over. Nuggets and apples in front of her, bottle of milk to the left. There. Once she was satisfied that it wasn't going to cause a disaster she settled down in the booth beside Shade, sipping on her own chocolate milkshake. "Should we call Kova over?" she asked, both to Shade and to Delilah.

"Kova?" Shade repeated blankly. He had never met the woman before. "I mean, sure, the more the merrier, right?"
"Thank you, Father, for the food," Antony said politely before he started to eat. Somehow his manners were very good, even with a father like Shade, who ate quickly, and a bit sloppily.

"Yes, please. Mama likes to meet new people." Delilah paused and offered a shy smile over her shoulder to Estelle. "And she likes Ms. Estelle." Her opinion given, she folded her hands neatly on the table in front of her and watched her friends eat. Approving, she noted Antony's neat manners and Manuela's choice of food.
Coincidentally, it appeared that the girl's mother had ears that were more than just for show and, at the distant mention of her name, she looked up and over.

Manny wasn't quite so neat with her food, popping a chicken nugget into her mouth before she spoke up again. "Mama Estelle likes her too I think, she doesn't act weird like some of Riley's brothers do." Weird maybe wasn't the best word, but she couldn't really tell the difference.
Estelle waved to Kova, then pointed to the free seat. "Kova is Delilah's mother," she explained to Shade, "Apparently Delilah is starting school soon. Aren't you teaching gym?"
