Goodbye Love
I have problems watching drama where the lead actors are unattractive to me. x__x XD Also, I'm quite the aesthete. So, I need my pretty actors and actresses. However! That's not to say that's the /reason/ I watch dramas. Example: Hana Kimi (J Version)...I HATE IT. And it has LOTS of my favorite idols and actors in it. D: I just can't make myself like it. ;; It makes me sad.
As for the Hana Kimi TW Version....hah, that girl is so unattractive face wise, definitely. But, by some miracle (that's not sarcasm xx wink , I managed to like the drama. xD

Rather than calling it "shallow," I think it's more like "natural."
I've watched dramas and movies with butt-ugly actors and actresses. Some turned out okay, some were darn terrible.
But whatever.
It's naturally a turn-off for most people, including me, if one of the main characters in a series is ugly.
Not attractive? Fine. It doesn't always mean they're ugly. Ugly? Turn-off.
Would I watch a show with hideous-looking main characters with an okay-storyline, plot, characters, etc? Most likely not. I'd probably be too turned-off already.
I mean. It's perfectly understandable, no?
BTW, I somewhat-agree with the romance drama thing. Asian romance dramas tend to have a lot of lovey-dovey scenes. Does anyone seriously think they won't either A) laugh their head off or B)want to puke when they see one/two hideous actor/actress go all mushy? And mushiness itself is oftentimes unattractive enough.

[THIS does not apply to RL] In a drama... i like it better when the actor are hott.. lol.. i know.. i sound shallow dallow.. but its the honest truth.. some how it attracts me more when they are cute. But occasionally in some dramas..even though the actors aren't hott or whatever.. you grow to love their characters.. and them xD

» for me after awhile i get used to how all the characters look like, like for the people who are considered "bad" i kinda of feel like they're the ugly ones but i think that the characters have to be at least "cute"? thats what i like to see for the guys.. xD

Azraels_Lil_Helper I really don't care if dramas have good looking people in them or not. I watch dramas that have actors/actresses that I recognize and like. I'm definitely with you on this one. biggrin

I have to admit that it's definitely harder for me to like a drama if the lead actor isn't attractive to me. It usually doesn't matter to me what the female lead looks like. But sometimes the lead will grow on me and I'll surprise myself and start liking him a lot. A good example of this is Yamapi. I really didn't like him in any drama I saw him in but after an episode or 2 of 'Sore wa totsuzen, arashi no you ni,' he started to grow on me and I ended up finding him attractive and becoming a big fan of both him and the drama. I could almost say the same thing for Jun Matsumoto. Every once in a while I'll find a drama where it really doesn't matter to me whether I find the lead attractive or not. Example, 'A Prince's First Love/First Love of a Royal Prince.' I never liked either one of the lead actors, but I loved the drama anyway.

As far as looks go, I really only care about the male actors. I don't think I've ever watched a drama where the main male character was ugly. They've been "eh" at first, but then as I stare at them for hours they start to get more and more attractive and by the time I hit the 10 hours or so mark, they're hot! mrgreen

To me, there are many components to a good drama. 1. Good looking [or decent looking] actors/actresses 2. Actors and actresses that can ACT 3. Good background music 4. Good plot 5. The characters have to have a good personality or something that makes them attractive at least

I think that plays a big part. If I like one actor I will watch the other dramas that they are in. Most entertainment is liek the now-a-days. Why watch something with someone extra-ugly?!
Truthfully though, I thought that Matsumoto Jun was ugly at first. His character in Hana Yori Dango was so cute so I kept watching. Now I am obsessed. 4laugh

♥♥♥♥♥See time don't stop, the crime don't stop
< 3 It doesn't really matter to me, but then again, most of the actors and actresses that a lot of Drama watchers find ugly, I find quite attractive in their own way. There's only ever been one person that I truly disliked the appearance of.
So I won't stop till I'm sittin' on top ♥♥♥♥♥

I know exactly what you mean! I mean I've watched dramas with unattractive people before, and I liked them. But usually I like them a lot more if the person is pretty! <3 And I'm not saying that I'll like ANY drama with an ugly guy, they have to be pretty and have talent!
... I have high standards. xD
