But, don't lose hope. A lot of people are thinking it's like what happened with the season 2 finale trailer, where everyone thought Zutara would be canon. Hopefully, something happens that causes Zuko to leave Mai and realize his mistakes in the finale.
Besides, we still have fanon, right?

I was mad at that zuko and mai pic,so I started thinking of some kinda explaination,even if it wasn't true and I kenw it.I came up with this:
(I know this seem pretty untrue and stupid)Zuko pretends to like Mai,so she'll like him and help him with:
A. finding and joining the GAnng. wink
B.Completly regaining his honor. confused
C.Trying to stop his father from winning the war. biggrin
D.Finding his mother. smile

I'm not to sure if this is true or not since I'm too lazy to go search for it... this is what convinces me that that maiko bullshit is a dream. mai's dream. mai is daydreaming about smooching zuko. #1 reason why maiko is not ACTUALLY happening? look at what the creators have done to us so far. CoTL? we never actually see aang and katara kiss. CoD? total zutara fake-out. all the "oh you'll see maiko, wink wink nudge nudge" just screams to me "yeah, you'll see maiko... IN MAI'S DREAMS!" it's the only thing that explains zuko's OOC-ness, and whoever saying maiko will be rekindled when ZUKO NEVER RECIPROCATED! even as a kid, he had no idea mai liked him, and pushing her into a fountain while trying to knock burning fruit off her head doesn't count as "oh mai i am so totally into you snog snog snog." the creators are faking us out, you gaiz. trufax.

I'm really hoping that stuff is true. I'm just not sure how it would make sense for Zuko and Mai to suddenly have a relationship after little to no interaction throughout the series. At least Zuko and Katara have talked/yelled/fought with each other.
Maybe it's Zuko's nightmare?

I come onto my computer tonight after waiting *on pins* for news on Season 3 and what do I find? Bloody Maiko emails from my mates that ship Maiko scream
I didn't believe them until I saw the clip myself....and I felt crushed crying
But after re-reading and watching the clip, I feel like something is off.
Why would the creators, after making all those twists and turns during the past 2 seasons, suddenly give into the fandom so easily? I would think they wouldn't give in without a fight, so I'm pre-pared to see many ships overthrown and toyed with during Season 3. *prepares for battle*
Also, I watched that clip numerous times, and to me it seems like thats a sequence from a daydream Mai might be having. The colouring is all off like when they show dreams....so, yesh, I believe Maiko will happen...in MAI'S DREAMS!! rofl
(Tho, I rather like the concept of it being a Day-mare for Zuko xd )
Overall, I'm just sad at the treatment they've given Iroh
crying no tea!

Apparently, knocking a flaming apple off of someone's head is a sign of true love. XD
But, seriously, the creator's did say they're planning on giving Mai some more development, and an actual backstory. Hopefully, if they do that, Maiko will make more sense, and seem less sudden. 'Cause, if it becomes canon and the characters remain as they are now, I'll be very upset.

But, I have an almost instant dislike for anyone who may create an obsical for Zutara to become canon xD >w>;;;; So, no matter how much her charactor develops, I still won't like her very much ><; But going baaack to the main subject of our discussion, I agree. I'll only accept Maiko if they give her backround and explain things. I'm becoming a bit uneasy about season 3 and the things that'll be revealed sweatdrop

I dunno, though. Either way, we can still like the pairing, right? It'll just be fanon. Hmm.

Okay, it's things like this that helped cheer me up after the Season 3 trailer:maighdlin Oh boy, just figured I would de-lurk for a moment to put my 2 cents into this discussion. As far as the kiss goes, I personally believe that theres really no way its a daydream of any sort. Considering this: http://pokefananime.free.fr/avatar/comic01.jpg comic panel. Now if you look at it, it's pretty obvious that Zuko and Mai have ended up spending a lot of time together after "Taking over Ba-Sing-Se" etc etc, and are being all self important walking through the streets together. It gives me the indication that they are "together" by the way things look, and by Zuko's reaction to Jin showing up and asking about Mai. What I find really interesting however is Mai's expression when Jin shows up, because its a rather contemptuous look. Therefore, is it in the realm of possibility that Zuko and Mai had some sort of a pre-arranged marriage before he was banished, which is now rekindled when he is accepted back? It would really explain the coupley self-important way they seem to be strolling around Ba-Sing-Se, and the look Mai gives to Jin. Taking all of that into consideration, in the trailer we also see Zuko leaving, presumably in the dead of the night, pulling up the hood of a traveling robe and grabbing his swords. Thus, it can be assumed that after his talk with Iroh, and his realization that his new-found "perfect" world is not so perfect, he is leaving. Whether he is leaving to (as rumored) find his mom, or to join the gaang is uncertain, but we do know that he is leaving both his father and azula, as well as Mai. Seriously people, Zutara makes sense, its bound to happen. They wouldn't have had that "moment" of understanding in the caves if there wasn't more intended to come. I really thing Katara is intended to help bring about Zuko's complete change. And with any luck, some Zutara will come along with it. *deep breath* At any rate I think I'll go back to lurking now, hope none of my speculation was too ludicrous. Keep the faith! =)
But, really, it does make a lot of sense. I think the creators mentioned somewhere that the firenation has arranged marriages, and seeing as Mai is a noble woman and well known by the royal family, it would make sense for her to be Zuko's arranged wife. But, as seen with Katara's Gran-Gran, arranged marriages don't always work out.
