I know where he stands on the subject of non-heterosexuals. He's still closer to Palpatine for me, evolution and green or not. There must be thousands of believing Catholics worldwide who don't need the church's disapproval to be so virulent, on top of what they get from their families and surrounding societies.

True, but at least it's something I guess? I just wish there would be a more liberal like Pope for once. John Paul II was pretty cool from what I've heard.

If you think about it, the pope's job is to be conservative. To keep the beliefs and stuff of the former Church.
It would be nice to have a pope who didn't go around bashing other people or beliefs, because I think if G*d truly had a representative on Earth, he/she would not be like that.
I've always been of the notion that Catholics have quite a few idols...They've gotten better about the pope, but they still treat Mary like she is G*d or Jesus or something. Nothing against them, I just don't understand it.

Well there's a fine line of "towing the party line," and coming out against "stupidity."
Let's face it, one of the tenents of Catholism is sexual chastity and moral self righteousness. Catholism is against sexual exploration in any way shape or form, be it homosexual or hetrosexual premartital intercourse. They're against pornography, erotic writings and basically anything kinky or perverse as a whole.
That's the party line.
However, deciding that there's validity in the theroy of evolution isn't. Saying it fits G-D's plan is well within the party line.

Exploration has the connotation of experimentation, at least to me. If you know what you are, you're not experimenting, you're living your life. Catholic doctrine doesn't differentiate between the types of sexual contact. It doesn't matter whether it's just for kicks and entertainment through promiscuity, or whether it's part of the way that a committed, loving couple express their affection for one another.

Nothing against them, I just don't understand it. Well, in its infancy the Church was trying to convert polytheistic people to Christianity. Venerating Mary the way they did, and splitting up the Father Son and Holy Ghost made it easier for people to switch over religions. I mean, if you think about it, why do you think Christians celebrate Easter the way they do? What do painted eggs and bunnies and thinks have to do with Christing being brutally crucified and then coming back? Why do you think Christmas is observed so close to the solstice and the new year? Animals don't have babies in the winter, right? And Christmas trees? Much of it is borrowed, and by extension all the other branches of Christianity keep those traditions around.

That's an excellent point...They tried to make it easily relatable, but still theirs. This Might Be Harmful Material For Virgin Ears! I highly despise the Catholic view on sex...It's so ridiculous. And Divash is right, they put a very large blanket over everyone, be them married or out of wedlock. I see no problem in a woman making the decision to be on birth control when she is married, and doesn't have the money for a kid. Just because you don't have the finances, doesn't mean your sexual relationship should suffer. This is just MY view on it, but if you don't want kids right after your married, why should it matter to anyone in the congregation or anyone of papal law. It's not disrespect of your partner, or the Catholic church, in my opinion. And while I'm on it, what about BC for medical uses? Doesn't a woman also have the right to make her menstruation BAREABLE and in some cases...more healthy? (I refer to women who get physically sick and other things of this nature) Blah blah blah.

kingpinsqeezels And while I'm on it, what about BC for medical uses? Doesn't a woman also have the right to make her menstruation BAREABLE and in some cases...more healthy? (I refer to women who get physically sick and other things of this nature) It's totally okay when used for medical reasons, but Catholic couples who follow the tradition will remain abstinent in the time the pill is taken. Catholics generally believe there was a reason a woman's menstrual cycle was made as it was for a reason and that choosing not to interfere with it or ignore it is more respectful to G-d and His creation. And we're conservative nuts - that too.
The current Pope is very conservative, even in Catholic standards, and he's pretty much against anything anyone else believes in. But he has written some sweet stuff about the love of G-d and His Divine Nature.
And on the note of non-hetrosexuality, he was essentially the editor in chief, and JPII gave overall consent for, the Vatican document which describes homosexuals as intrinsically disordered. So they really are all conservative nuts.

angelic elf darkphoenix1247 Plus, he can't be that bad if he got picked to be pope in the end. Even though he totally looks like Palpatine. If I recall it right not all the popes were very "Jewish friendly", and many of them were anti-Semitics. Actully pope john paul the second was Jewish. He called the secind vatican council which said that Jews are able to be saved without converting.

No pope is or was Jewish.
He died espousing a religion that is diametrically opposed to Judaism. There is no opportunity for t'shuvah (repentence, returning) after death. Even if he had been born a Jew, which he was NOT, he would have been under the cherem (been excluded from the Jewish community) while alive and practicing another religion. Upon his death, he would be lost to the Jewish people forever.
