Rhapsody nodded. If you have lived with something like that all your life you really wouldn't notice it. "I am usually not so bold. Maybe it is the ocean air or something. I normally try to hide from others instead of being bold. But I think that the more I meet others the more that is changing."

She looked at him in wonder "Really? I can't imagine trying to hide away" she looked at the ocean wistfully "I mean, I know some of the soquilis I meet find it rather weird, but eventually just get over what others think of you" she smiled
"You know, you should really try that" she exclaimed "stop caring what others think, I mean..." the orange mare trailed off

Rhapsody took in her words and then looked at her strangely. Maybe she knew what it was like to be him. It never occured to him that maybe there was someone out there that felt like he did.
He turned and looked back out to the ocean. "Yeah, I should really try that and slowly I am." he said and then looked back at her. "Do you have trouble with your own color? I mean, you are a rather bright orange."

She shrugged lightely "Its true, that others stare every once in a while, but I never really let it get to me" she giggled "I have always tried to maintain an outlook that says, I'm differnt, hence I am special and unique"
"Besides" she continued "I have actually met others that were even more special in a sense" she smiled "Just recently I met a blue mare that sparkled so much she almost blinded me" Nalini jested "and that was her pelt, not just jewelry" she added.

He nodded and listened to her talk. She seemed to joyful even though she was different. With a horn she was bound to get many looks and here he was lamenting over being pink! How lame was he?
"A blue mare that sparkled? I have to admit, you are the only other differently colored Soquili that I have met." he said with a smile.

She looked at him in surprise "Differently? What is non-different to you?" she questioned "I mean, so far, I've met a blue sparkly mare, a purple mare, and I once actually met another orange stallion... and you of course" she smiled "So tell me again, exactly what is normal to you?" she asked with a glint in her eye "Cause recently, thats what has become normal to me"

"Well, I have only met a black and white mare, a brown and white mare, and a tan and black stallion. Plus three of my teepee mates are black and brown. I guess thats what I would consider normal." he said shrugging. "By differently colored I mean like being red or purple or blue. My father and grandmother are both red. My step-mother is white."

She smiled slightly, and tore her gaze from the ocean, turning her head to gaze at the stallion next to her "Then perhaps you need to change your view of normal" she suggested softly "especially if you feel that being normal is important"

He also tore his gaze from the ocean and looked back at her soft face. "Actually I do not know what is important to me. I never have really thought about it before. I've been so obsessed over not being pink that I never took the time to find what I like and don't like, what my morals are and what is improtant to me. My family of course is important as it should be but I don't know what else is. I never really took the time to get to know myself." he said with a sigh and then laughed. "That's pretty lame isn't!" he said and laughed again.
Truth be told, he was trying to find that stuff out. Everytime he met someone new, he began to care less and less what they thought of his color. Little by little he had been coming out of his shell. He still got defensive every once in a while but it wasn't right at the start like it had been when he was little. With his adopted sister's help and his friend Leilani's help, he had been doing a lot of growing up lately.

Nalini shook her short mane, and smiled at the stallion "It's not lame" she disagreed "It's true that its unfortunate that you haven't looked deeper inside you, but its definately not lame... I think a lot of other soquilis are the same way" encouragement glowed from her "actually, I think you're pretty fortunate, seeing as you have realized it. Thats the first step, isn't it? Now you can start paying more attention to it"
The orange mare winked at him "And starting off with your family as an important thing is good" she exclaimed "I know not all soquilis care about their families at ALL" the orange mare underlined "And just by saying that, it shows a lot about your character, you know? You're obviously a very caring soquili!"

Rhapsody smiled back and flicked his tail of curls. Talking to this mare was turning out to make is day rather enjoyable. Normally he would be all in a bad mood and defensive, which would normally make the mare upset and make him feel like a big jerk. But he hadn't been like that with her. True it was mainly because of her color and that making her similar to himself but still.
"Thanks for not thinking it lame and your right that I am pretty fortunate. I have two good friends who have been helping me to get out of my shell. But now I have found a third." he said and his smile brightened. Even though he had just met her, he had come to trust her and think of her as a friend.
"My gram has always been real big about family. She passed it on to my father who passed it on to me. Though it is sad to know that there are those who, like you said, don't care at all for thier families. That is another thing that I am fortunate for. And your also right that it is the first step."

Nalini couldn't help but smile broadly at the stallion, and puffed him lightly "oh stop" she joked "now you're just making me embarrased" she winked, before putting on a more serious face "But seriously, sometimes, you should just ignore what others think of how you look..." she encouraged, a smile still adorning her features "...friend" she said kindly.
Looking away to shield some of the pain in her eyes, the orange mare spoke far more silent "You're very lucky... I hardly remember anything about my family. Its... weird." she admitted "It made it hard for me to survive, it was very lonely"

Rhapsody wasn't suprised by this. The more he met other Soquili the more he found that alot had no family at all or did not know thier family. It was really sad to think of what it would have been like for him if he hadn't had a family but he couldn't quite imagine it. "I can't imagine not having my family. But I do know that there are a lot out there who don't know thier family. It's really sad and kind of a tragety really." he said and then looked out over the waves.
"Even if you don't have a family, you now have a friend in me! That's atleast something right?" he said turning back to her and smiling. He really did hate to see others upset or sad. He was like his father in the respect.

Nalini nodded absentmindedly at the stallion's words. "Well..." she started "...atleast I know what not to do, when I start my own family in time" she said, with a small smile on her face. Her ability to see positive in even the saddest of situations was probably one of her best qualities "Seeing as I have now tried to be without family my entire life, I could never bring myself to do that to future foals" she said, and blushed slightly when she realized she was talking about this to a stallion. Not the usual topic to come up.
Letting the small quirk of a lip become a fullfledged smile, she nipped him playfully and grinned "You got that one right" she winked at him "If you can stand being around me of course, and let me warn ya, I'm not that easy to get rid of once I'm here"

He watched her as she seemed to be distantly thinking. He watched as the expressions changed and flowed across her face. "Well, I am sure that you will be a great mom when the time comes. Those who have never had a family before seem to be the ones who become the best parents, just like my gram with my dad, aunt and uncle and then with me." he said with a smile.
The he chuckled at her comment about not being able to get rid of her and then thought of Taylor. He already had enough exprience with that kinda thing.
"Oh don't worry about that. Just as long as your not like the one mare at my teepee. She is as annoying as they come! But I don't think that your like that so it will be just fine."
