A Special Trip to Wal-Mart
Sanrio reached for the remote. Her fingers jamming the volume button numerous times, the reason, a wailing baby butter boy.
“Ronin! Shush!” Sanrio whined, jamming the volume to thirty, with only three more increments before she maxed out the sound.
Ronin’s tantrum continued. He held a ripped purple t-shirt high above his head. As the seconds progressed Ronin’s crying escalated in pitch, so much to the point once Sanrio hit thirty-three on the TV she bolted up and over to the infant.
“My gosh!” She shouted. “What is it?”
Ronin’s yellow eyes peered sadly up at her. He held the t-shirt out to her.
“Broke…” He said through a few sobs.
Sanrio scowled and grabbed the shirt from the butter boy’s grasp.
“And you want a new one.” She mumbled walking out into the kitchen. Ronin’s head bobbed in an affirmative motion.
Sanrio returned with a pair a white and red sneakers and an infant-sized panda printed sweatshirt. Then single handedly, she removed the baby from the floor carried him back to the kitchen, setting him on the table, and dressed the boy so he was ready to go.
“A trip to Wal-mart.” Sanrio muttered exiting the house.
Sanrio placed Ronin gently into one of the shopping carts. The butter boy had a huge grin on his face as he kicked his feet to and fro. He was truly enjoying this trip. He went into a fit of giggles as Sanrio made a dash with the cart towards the toddler clothing section.
Ronin’s eyes landed on a rack of t-shirts. He pointed in a wild movement towards the tops. He just needed to see those and pick one, or many, to replace is ruined purple one. Sanrio much obliged and pushed the cart next to the unit.
Ronin’s little hands pulled a few tops from the rack. One of them being a red

Mud Pie t-shirt, and another yellow
panda t-shirt.
Sanrio looked quizzically at the boy. Was he nuts? Did she think he was getting all three of these? He was mad; but she picked the three shirts out in a size larger and dropped them into the cart anyway. He was constantly outgrowing his clothes and would need new ones eventually, so why not now?
Next thing on Sanrio’s shopping list was a new Tamagotchi. So she quickly exited the clothes and headed towards the toys.
On the way, in a middle shelving unit, Ronin reached out and grabbed the
orange handle of a butterfly net. The boy waved it around crazily, babbling all the way. But a slip of the wrist sent the net into Sanrio’s arm and she snatched it quite quickly from the boy and dropped it into the shopping basket.
“Enough.” She said quietly but sternly. Ronin nodded and went silent with his hands on the handlebar of the cart.
Sanrio wheeled the cart down the “miscellaneous” toy isle. She b-lined for the end where the store hung it’s electronic pets. She parked Ronin’s cart on the opposite side of the isle and went searching through the Tamagotchis. She was in dire need a see-through purple one. They just had to have that model; or at least a model of such in a different color.
“Don’t touch anything, Ronin.” Sanrio mumbled in the midst of her rummaging.
Ronin did not pay any heed to the remark and dove his hands straight for a
soft, green rattly hedgehog toy, of which he dropped right into the basket behind him. That was sure to give him hours of endless excitement.
“Ta da!” Sanrio cheered, showing a transparent magenta Tamagotchi to the boy. “They had one! But it is not purple.” She said chucking the item into the cart. “Oh well.”
Next was the craft section. Sanrio was in dire need of some more scrap booking materials. Ronin’s eyes glistened with anticipation when they entered the isle. So many neat things! He grabbed his hands out and picked a
package of 3D adhesive, gold stars. He raised his prize to Sanrio’s view.
“eh?” The tot questioned. Sanrio nodded and took the item from Ronin placing it in the cart.
“Very pretty. Those will look nice on some page, probably.” Sanrio smiled, turning her back to the boy and observing a shelf of printed papers. So much to choose from!
Ronin smiled and reached out again this time grabbing a
tiny golden charm. He pocketed this item away from Sanrio’s eye. She was too involved with her papers. It was going to be his special toy.
Sanrio returned to the carriage soon after and deposited a pile of paper into the back.
“That should be enough for a little while.” She turned the cart and headed towards the checkout.
“You’re total is $56.94, Miss. Will that be cash or credit?” The cashier spoke. Sanrio pulled her debit card from her pocket and waved it at the person.
“On this, please.” She said swiping the card in the electronic reader.
The receipt printed soon after. “Have a good day.” The cashier bid. Sanrio nodded.
“You as well.” And with that she made her way to the exit.
‘Beep, beep, beep, I am sorry you have activated our inventory alert system. Please step back and allow one of our employees to assist you. Beep, beep, beep.’
Sanrio looked shocked and covered her face with a hand desperate to hide her shame.
“Right this way, lady.” A uniformed officer ushered.
Sanrio’s face paled. This was so embarrassing!
