((You've got the same birthday as me!))
Well, it seemed this little trip to the lowlands was a damn sight more interesting than the last one. In his previous visits he had done nothing more than slink about in the shadows. Choosing only to travel at night he had avoided everyone and everything that may cause him problems. However, in his recent visits he had bumped into a rather large number of soquili in the process.
...And they were even stranger than him!
Well, in terms of appearance they made his skin crawl. They were absolutely beautiful and he loathed the fact that he wasn't. That being said, they had the most unusual quirks and some were even more flat and about as subtle as an anchor when they spoke. Chivalry really was dead in the lowlands, his mother had taught him well...but he was beginning to suspect his ways were a little too outdated.
He shrugged more so at his own thoughts; it wasn't as though he would be here permanently, he could act as he pleased.
Raising a brow at her renewed interest, he forced himself to remain still as she examined every inch of him. He hated it when they did that, within seconds they would find another thing to cringe at.
"You stare again," He stated softly, "What is it you find odd this time?"

((Indeed! xD))
She shook her head, glancing back out over the waves. "Nothing at all, actually. Maybe on the outside you look frighening, look vicious, and can be on the inside too, but there is a creature in there that feels pain. You flinch when I hurt you, you get angry when I insult you. What is odd about that?" She pushed back to her feet. "Nothing, that's what." A shoulder shrugged. "I find your appearance to be the strangest thing about you. Fascinating, really."
Her voice trailed off, as she pondered the weird head thing? appendages? Were they like horns or ears? Or could he take them off, like a saddle? And how exactly DID those wings work? They looked awful complicated. In, out, up, in, down, around, in a circle, and then snap? Or something.

Usually he preferred not to think about how his wings worked. They just did - they worked, they clunked into place and they supported him when necessary. To attempt to explain the unique manner in which they were constructed would be stupid. For a start, not even he completely understood how they worked. Their actions were based entirely on instinct and subconscious thought - sort of like breathing.
If you started to think about breathing, you ended up forgetting to breathe. Utterly ridiculous concept really.
"All those who are mortal feel pain to an extent. Thought they will not admit it, each one is capable of some form of emotion." He replied smoothly. While he was somewhat defensive in terms of what had been said he wouldn't attack it immediately. As foreign as her words were to him, they struck a chord and he had to admit they were right to a point.
"However, I receive comments on my appearance frequently," he mused, flicking his ears mildly against the red 'spikes'. In response, they shifted as though made of a thick cloth and it was evident they were nothing more than decoration.
"But never have I had it referred to as fascinating."

"What can I say, I like weird things." the words fell out with tactless grace, and it was only the way her ears flicked back and she scowled that she knew what she said, and realized it, yet again, only too late. And the fact she'd acknowledged her tactlessness... only made it worse, in the end. Perhaps? Maybe a little? Or maybe he'd not even notice it- or chalk it back up to her being just generally rude.
"Are you hungry?" she asked after a moment, deciding she could at least extend an offer- a one time shot at an apology, and as much of one as any could expect from her. "I don't eat meat, but I could probably hunt you something to eat. If you eat meat." She had a horn, and four hooves, same as he- and no hole in her chest that looked (to her eyes, at least) rather gushy, and not something that would be conducive to finding and killing a meal. "You do eat meat, right? I mean, you've got the monsterously large teeth for it." her head tilted, as if she could look into his mouth from the distance she was at.

Yep, she was as subtle as a brick and Azumoth couldn't help but crack a smile. At other times he may have snapped at her but she seemed completely oblivious to the words coming out of her mouth. It was almost as though she had been brought up to be brutally honest as opposed to spouting lies or reassuring words that were nearly impossible to fathom - it was entertaining to say the least.
For a start, he didn't eat meat.
"Alas, I do not eat meat...I am strictly vegetarian," Azumoth replied smoothly, clearing his throat to rid the laughter rising inside. This concept was a difficult one as well, a creature equipped to kill things rivalling his size and he...didn't. It was almost anti-climatic.
"The teeth are just for show, but I am rather hungry." He confessed after a few moments, "You are aware of a place to eat here?" To be honest he couldn't see himself eating sand any time soon.

She blinked at him. "You don't eat meat?" She eyed his teeth again. No, those were certainly... sharp teeth. So he could use them, but didn't? That didn't make much sense to the mare. If you had an asset, you used that asset, didn't you? And was that even healthy? It was like that crazy stallion Faust trying to munch on meat. His system couldn't digest it, so he was always getting sick. Did this stallion get sick too? "There are a lot of places to eat." she said finally, with a grin. "What do you like? Flowers, grass, leaves, any specific scenery you prefer with your meal? I wander enough that I could probably guilde you to any general area." she shrugged a shoulder. "Unless I get lost. But I always find my way back."

For the Mutant it was perfectly healthy. Given that his mother had been an ordinary soquili he had been blessed in a manner of speaking. His body seemed to adore herbs, grass...anything that didn't taste of iron. He could speak from experience having bitten a number of individuals when he lost his temper. Blood repulsed him, made him physically sick for the most part.
...Except for when it was his birth.
Nevertheless, as he flashed a small smile in response to her words he shook his head. She had suddenly become much more accommodating and too tired to argue or deny himself an offer he didn't deserve he opted instead to answer her accordingly.
"Seaweed," he canted his head to the side and released a loose chuckle, "Scenary isn't something I consider...whatever suits, so to speak."

She blinked at him, then wrinkled up her nose. "Seaweed? Gross." the stuff was stringy, and salty, and SANDY, and clung to her tail and mane every time she tried to play in the seawater. Leeches, that didn't suck blood. "But it's okay if you like it." she said, reassuringly. "I just think it's a little... dry for my taste." she shrugged, and gestured at the ocean. "I don't eat seaweed. I don't know where to get it, except off the beach, and that you can get it in your tail when you go swimming." Yue frowned, pondering. "But you can't go in the water because your chest is oozy, and that would hurt a LOT." she shuddered. Where was a good shallow place along the coast where he wouldnt have to go in deep to get the plant, and she wouldn't have to stick her tail in the water to get it for him?
Finally she grinned, and gestured at the stallion again. "Voila! The beach. Perfect place to get seaweed. There are a few places along the coast that are like shelves, and you can go out kind of far, without going past your knees. That way you won't get your chest wet, and you can reach the seaweed without eating it dry off the beach." Though the brine would certainly taste disgusting... wouldn't it?

"It is an acquired taste," the stallion agreed as he watched the petite mare pull a face. Was it him, or was every mare he met rather tiny? Granted, he was aware that he was ridiculously told but that didn't mean they all had to look like ponies, did it? He wasn't sure, either way it was turning into a rather bemusing thought...even the males were rather small. It was almost as if the soquili in the High lands were much taller than those in the low lands.
Nevertheless, when she mentioned his oozing chest he simply allowed another wry smile to appear on his lips and shook his head. He had bathed before and while it had been painful it had cleared the worst of it out. It was with a great deal of luck that no delicate ears had heard him as he cursed along with it. That being said, he had heard more often than not that the sea contained curative properties so perhaps...
He did have a high pain threshold, he could cope.
"However it depends on how you eat it," choosing to disregard her concern as trivial, he began to wade into the water at a somewhat controlled pace, pausing briefly so that his legs could grow accustomed to the temperature. Admittedly, the temperature wasn't that severe given the thick quality of his coat but it still had to be done.
"More often than not," he rounded the rock she remained perched on and raised a brow. There was something unusual about this mare, she hadn't hidden how she felt about his appearance at all and she had made many assumptions but she was still relaxed...Completely oblivious to her insults. It really was rather amusing and at the same time very bizarre...she just wasn't aware of her words at all!
"You pick the seaweed, clean it off in an area without brine...such as a river and then dine on it. That way you preserve the taste and it slides down the throat easily," he explained dutifully as he examined the water beneath his hooves before wading deeper in. He didn't go as far in as to submerge his chest just yet, he would rather make sure there was sea weed in that spot before he did.
"You should consider trying it again sometime."

Yue watched him with wide eyes from the sand. He was wading in, further and further, and however tall he might be... heh. She snuck slightly closer, better to see his face when he was hit in the chest with the salty ocean water. But certainly not close enough the monster-sized teeth could bite her. "But that takes too long... When you're hungry, you just want to eat it right away, don't you?" she shook her long hair, frowning at the stallion.
Something brushed against her leg, swirling in the water. She growled, and yanked her hoof out of the water, lowering her mouth to jerk the piece of seaweed off of her hoof. Looked around, face souring quickly, for a place to drop it. "Dishgushting." Her tail was gathering stuff too! Curse it for being so LONG! She finally spat the weed back out into the sea, and rubbed her tongue aagainst the roof of her mouth, trying to get rid of the salty taste. "Ugh."

Oh she was a sneaky one! There was certainly about that mare and while she may not enjoy his immediate pain there had to be some form of delight in seeing him wince. Maybe it was that 'I told you so' phrase playing on her mind or she was just sadistic, it was any one's guess! Either way, Azumoth hadn't seen her (though he'd heard her) and just kept moving.
It was only when he sighted the seaweed not far away that he raised his eyes heavenwards and cursed the spirits. He was going to have to wade in further and worst of all, he was going to have to go under water to reach it. He would be completely submerged as he tugged the strange plants free and then he would have to clamber to the shore to eat. Not the most fun ways of acquiring a delicacy he so enjoyed.
"Not necessarily," he selected to prolong the inevitable for the time being, "I prefer to enjoy my meals rather that shudder - if it is necessary to wash the plants to get the best taste I will," perhaps he was just a little more patient than her, but it was with a grit of his teeth that he steeled himself and dove into the water.
...Just as well swearing couldn't be heard particularly well above water as he released a string of colourful words and thrust himself towards the seaweed. The constant stinging in his chest wasn't excruciating but it was bloody painful and it wasn't long before he tore some of the plants from the sea bed and pulled himself to the surface.
...He didn't just come to float, instead he literally bolted into the air with a flourish of his wings and released a shudder as the water flew off him. Man, that was going to sting for a bit.

She gave a muffled little laugh as he winced, humming a childish 'I told you so' song under her breath. When he dove under- were those bubbles? Breath, or cursing? She snuck a little closer, only to give a screech and launch into the air herself as he came rocketing towards the surface, spraying water behind him. "Are you okay?" she called finally, voice gleeful. "Did it hurt?"
If she actually SAID 'I told you so', would he get mad?
She flew closer to him, attention on his wings. Still so intriguing.

Ha! Had he not been concentrating on keeping his mouth firmly coiled around his catch he would have gawked at her. She sounded positively delighted by how he'd reacted to the water! A part of the mutant had to admit that he wondered whether or not she had a sadistic streak or maybe it was one of those rare 'I win' moments that mares seemed to savour.
But by the gods his chest hurt.
Ensuring that his expression remained passive (as he was satisfied that she had shrieked as well), he landed on the shore once again and draped the seaweed carefully over the boulder to avoid getting sand on it. Admittedly there would be sand on the rocks but not as much as on the ground and therefore it'd be a damn sight easier to clean off.
"I am perfectly alright, just as I claimed I would be," he replied smoothly, raising a brow and her questions. There was a part of him that wanted to dare her to be brash and blunt.

She made a face, eyes remaining gleeful as she settled down, a bit closer to him this time. "But I bet it didn't make your chest feel any better." her lips twitched as the mare supressed a gleeful laugh.
"I don't have much healing talent, but if you ask nice, I can see what I can do for you." she offered finally, a twinge of guilt worming its way under the glee. She could have also offered to go into the water for his seaweed, but she hated salty water. A face was made again just at the mere thought of the taste. "My mom is only partly a unicorn, you see. So I'm only a quarter. But Quisty taught me a bit about healing..." she nodded at his chest again. "I might be able to do at least something about that, and you wouldn't have to approach anyone else. Wouldn't have to deal with the pain as much anymore either."

Ah there it was, that little comment that she just couldn't keep to herself. While she hadn't said anything to be openly malicious he was beginning to get the feeling that she revelled in being right. Unfortunately for the tiny mare she would soon find that Azumoth liked to be right too and due to his rather alarming amount of pride, he wasn't about to agree to anything just yet.
On the contrary, his expression remained passive as she provoked him with her remark and only shifted briefly when she made reference to healing him. It was only then that he stiffened, eyed the mare suspiciously and then shook his head as though reassuring himself of the current situation. As pleasant and kind as the pretty creature's offer might be he was not about to allow himself the 'easy' option.
This was his penance, his chance to atone.
"I thank you for the offer but it is necessary that the wound heals itself, I cannot accept the aid regardless of the temptation it may cause."
