Everyone arrived at the dinner hall dressed as elegantly as the Hall required, with its scenic backdrop. You were seated and the dinner was presented to you in an array of dramatics, silver platters appeared before you adorned with your chosen meal, cutlery spanning either side.

The hosts were seated at the head of the long mahogany table, and carried the conversation for the meal.
The dialogue was dulcet at first, airs and graces concerning the castle and its history, talk at one point turned to the very room you were in, and the large canvas displayed in a gilded frame on the far wall of the dining hall caught the attention of a young, golden eyed girl sat to the right of Lady Maurelle. Her long raven hair caught the candle light as she turned her eyes to gaze at the strange painting. She asked, softly, who the young gentleman was. The painting was not particularly stunning, but the gauche used has created texture that makes his gentle eyes seem somehow haunted. It is obvious by his clothing that he is from at least 300 years old, and you all find it strange that such a young boy had such a large portrait commissioned.

Lady Maurelle turns for a moment to look at the boy, a sorrowful expression ghosts her delicate features, a small smile passes across her lips as she turns back to the table to ask the female’s name.
She repeats it, softly, turning it over in her mouth as if to remember it forever
“Spirit”.

Lady Maurelle explains, to the assembled guests that the young gentleman in the portrait was a distant cousin by the name of Louis, and once lived within the walls of the very house you were all now dining in.
A hush passes over the banquet as her tones grow lower and she begins to recall the tale of her ancestors.

Louis had been drowned in the lake in the nearby village, in the year 1793, and the cause of death was suspected to be murder. The culprit was never identified. The story was nothing like that of a ghost tale, rather more melancholy and you are given the feeling that Lady Maurelle was leaving out key elements…

The conversation was abruptly halted, Lady Maurelle draws herself to her full height and softly walks to the ballroom doors, her heels tapping out staccato on the marble floors, she extends her reach to the large double doors, and with a simple push, they flow inwards revealing the lavishly furnished ballroom.

((This is where you re-begin your story, take up your human characters as if they were coming from the dining room itself. Imagine that you are still feeling the void in the atmosphere left by the story of Louis))

* The air swirled with excitement as it buzzed with voices that echoed through the hall, each person conversed in conversation. Aly found herself introducing herself to many people, as she chatted with the people that sat next to her. Her long black hair was tied up into a tight bun, with a few strands of hair that framed her delicate face, her dark eyes taking in each figure seated at the long mahogany table. Her garments matched her hair nicely and it allowed for her eyes to stand out more clearly. Her attention was distracted when she heard Lady Maurelle’s voice and she turned her head slowly to listen more intently. She placed her utensils that she was eating with, elegantly on the table and folded her hands across her lap. Her eyes grew wide with shock when she heard Lady Maurelle inform the guests that were gathered in the Hall that night about the murder that took place years ago. Aly tossed the information that she had been told over in her head, Louis- drowned in 1793. Suspected to have been a murder but the culprit never found. Puzzled at the turn of events, she watched, her face blank, as Lady Maurelle gracefully stood and revealed the ballroom that awaited for them beyond the double doors. She felt that the Lady was purposely leaving out some of the major details that followed with this murder and Aly felt that she needed to get to the bottom of the case. Aly knew only of the information given to her on this night, Louis had lived in this very house that they were dining in and a murder that would leave any ghost wanting to find answers. Aly knew that whatever happened, she needed to find out more about Louis. Brusquely, Aly turned to the guest next to her, which regrettably she had forgotten her name.* “Do you know of this Louis person?” she asked kindly, but seriously. *

*Maya turned her head in the direction the voice came from, and found herself facing Aly, the girl who had been sitting next to her. Do you know this of Louis person? had been the question she had asked. "Yes, I've heard of him," Maya answered quietly. "I can't tell you to much about him, I don't know much. However..." Maya trailed off. She was hesitant to tell Aly the rumor she had heard about Louis. She wasn't supposed to spread it, especially because she didn't know for sure whether it was true.
Maya shifted uncomfortably in her frilly blue gown. She decided to change the subject. "My name's Maya in case you've forgotten. How long are you staying here in Goscott?

*Anime sat at the table and chatted with the others elegantly, her long dark brown hair straight and flowing down to almost the bottom of her back and she was wearing a knee-length strapless dress with a shall over her shoulders; a cherry shade of red matching her dress to a T. Then she abruptly turned her attention when she heard that Lady Maurelle had started talking. She hadn't heard anything about this person with the name Louis; not even rumors. Anime was quite intrigued buy this topic and wanted to know more, so when she noticed that the conversation beside her had turned to that topic she quickly jumped into the conversation along with the others. “Excuse me but are you talking about Louis?" Anime asked with the politest tone in her voice that she could possibly use.* All Anime had known was what had been said by the good Lady but she felt that there was more and she wanted to get to the bottom of this murder mystery as soon as possible! She loved a good adventure when she went to new places.*

* Aly smiled politely. It was obvious that Maya was afraid to be speaking of such rumours she had heard floating about in the town. Not wanting to cause any stress at the moment, she went along easily with the conversation, and decided to ask again when they felt more comfortable with each others presence. Aly’s eyes swept over Maya, taking in her character. She seemed uncomfortable and the way she shifted in her blue dress confirmed her suspicions. Aly smiled reassuringly, to show that she wasn’t threat and anything Maya told her would be kept confidential of course. Aly moved as swiftly as she could to move her chair over so that her and Maya would be able to talk more privately. Her dress never seemed to crease as she moved as smoothly as she could, getting up gracefully to move her chair and then sitting back down in one swift movement. When she stood, most people were surprised to find that Aly was not as tall as she looked. She stood at a short height of five feet one and a half inches, and usually found it difficult to communicate with others that were a great height taller. When she was seated once again, her full attention was on Maya.* “As a matter of fact, I will be staying quite a while actually, at least I assume I will be,” Aly explained, “ What about you?” Aly was so focused on Maya that she had barely heard the girl next to her ask her a question. Aly excused herself for a moment with the conversation she was having with Maya and turned to stare at the girl that sat next to her. Her eyes swept over her long brown hair and her strapless dress. She pursed her lips and shook her head, they weren’t talking about Louis yet.* “Not at the moment, I’m sorry,” Aly apologized. *

*Spirit poked aimlessly at the piece of chicken that she had left uneaten on her plate as her mind bubbled with the story about Louis. She always enjoyed learning the stories or legends about the towns she visited and this was by far the most interesting one she had heard. As she let her mind go over the information Lady Maurelle had told everyone again her eyes wondered off her plate and over to the painting of Louis. The more she studied the painting the more she wanted to know about him and his mysterious death; she slowly placed her fork down on the table and looked out over the crowd of people. She knew that the only way she would find out more about Louis would be to ask people herself, only problem was that Spirit was extremely shy when it came to talking with others; she had been the kid who you would find tucked into a corner with her nose in a book. She didn’t usually go to events like this one, but something in her wanted to go this time, why she had felt that way was a mystery. A piece of her hair fell in front of her face and she pushed it back into place behind her ear, she had decided to keep her hair down because she had no skill in doing it up and if she had tried it would have most likely turned out to look like a ball of knots on top of her head. As for her dress she didn’t have much choice in that either, she had only one dress in her possession, it was a dark forest green and fell all the way to the floor; Spirit was quite tall for her age and so the long dress fit her well. The dress was strapless and had small runic print covering it, from just above her elbow draping down to her fingers was a golden materiel outlined in black which so happened to match her golden eyes. Letting out a small sigh she gathered all the courage she could muster and pushed the chair she sat on away and slowly stood. She took small steps as she walked through the groups of people, she was not use to walking in such a slim fitting dress and the last thing she wanted to do was fall flat on her face. Keeping her eyes down she continued to move forward, listening to conversations as she passed by. Losing more and more confidence the farther she walked without any mention of Louis she finally just found an empty table and slid into the seat and in the same motion she placed her head in her arms and closed her eyes, I guess I will just wait till someone around me brings up the subject she told herself.*

*Maya watched as the pretty girl on the other side of Aly, asked if they were talking about Louis. Wow, she thought, Everyone really wants to know about him. Maya felt sort of guilty keeping the secrets she wasn't sure if she knew inside. Just then she saw a girl walk over to a table and put her head down. She looked lonely. She then remebered to answer Aly's question. "I live not too far from here," she told her. Maya let her eyes wander around. Aly, the girl next to her, the girl at the table, the people who were dancing to the fancy classical music. Lady Maurelle had opened up the ball room for people to dance, but Maya didn't feel like it right then. "Excuse me," she said to Aly. She got up and went over to the girl all by herself. "Are you okay?" Maya asked her.

The ball began in full swing, waiters ran discretly from person to person offering an array of drinks, people conversed in various groups around the room. As the maids shifted from table to table, serving as they went they soon realised the topic of discussion.....Louis.
The topic was well known to those who lived in the region, rumours spread like wild fire, each with their own faults only a selected few knew the real reason behind the murder.

Each person within the RP will recieve a rumour, some may be true, other will not be its for you to decide, you may wish to share your rumour with others, though you may decide to keep it hidden.
At the end of this murder mystery, you will be given a chance to patch together all your clues that will occur throughout, and before you will be several main characters, one whom will be the culprit, and if chosen correctly at the time, the person, or persons who asume correctly will win a prize.

*Aly smiled politely as Maya made her way to the young girl over at the end. Just as Aly had done for the girl next to her and Maya, her eyes roamed over the girl, taking in her characteristics. She worn a darn green forest colour dress that fell to the ground. It was strapless and there was a piece of golden material that matched her eyes nicely. Aly marveled at her eyes for a few minutes. They were golden and she had never witnessed anyone others eyes that were that shade. Her hair hung freely and from time to time it appeared to sweep in front of her face, causing her to push it back into place. After Aly had memorized her features just as she had done for the others, she turned her attention back to the girl next to her, who seemed to be in no ongoing conversation. A thought sprang to her mind when she realized that she had heard a rumour before. She mentally beat herself up for forgetting it so easily at the time she had heard it. All to quickly, Aly remembered the day when she had heard it. The voices and images flashed in her head as if she was reliving the memory now.

The sun's rays glittered on the street. Everywhere Aly walked, people would stop and stare, whispering many things. Aly stared back at them, confused and frightened. Was she breaking any rules? she thought nervously. As she went to a fruit stand to buy something edible to eat, she heard a conversation between three people who were huddled close by. They seemed to be the only ones unaware of her staring eyes and even though others tried to disrupt them to warn them of her curious nature, they couldn't be disturbed. They seemed to be speaking of someone by the name of Louis. Wanting to know more, Aly craned her neck, paying the clerk at the stand absentmindly. She took a few steps forward so she could hear better, "Could you believe it?" They had whispered. One of the others seemed not to have heard the rumour and the oldest one, or so it appeared to be, repeated it. There eyes went wide with shock and that was when they had caught sight of Aly...

Aly shook her head at the memory, not wanting to relive it any longer. The moments that followed the memory were not pleasant and maybe that was the reason why she hadn't remembered the rumour. It did her no good because she had no clue if it was true or not, but she knew that deep down many people gathered in that dining hall wanted to know more. Her eyes snapped to the girl next to her and she decided to find out what she knew.* "What do you know of Louis?" Aly asked innocently.

*Anime recognized the innocence in Aly's voice and took in her expression. Anime thought about the rumor she had heard and then decided that there was a possibility that it was real. Anime thought for a moment and decided that it would be rude of her to tell rumors about a dead person. Before answering Aly she took in the beautiful scenery, people dancing and chatting. This was a beautiful sight, the ballroom was so beautiful. Anime decided to answer Aly, "I just heard that he died thats all I only know as much as we just heard......how about you??"

She shot her head up a little too fast; everything seemed to spin for a couple seconds, when she could finally see straight she looked over at the girl now standing next to her. “Oh yes, I’m fine,” she answered in a small voice, “it’s just a little cowered in here.” Anther piece of her hair fell in front of her eyes and she started to twirl it around her finger, it was a habit of hers, whenever she got nervous she would be caught doing it. Suddenly her brain reminded her to be polite and she smiled up at the new girl, “I’m Spirit by the way.” She said as she put out her hand.*

*Aly chuckled softly, knowing that what she was saying was a lie. She was able to easily tell when someone was not telling the truth; after all she needed to be able to tell because of her previous job that she had held for over a year. Humour glinted in her eyes and her face was amused. Noticing that Anime had decided to glance around the ballroom, she did the same. Aly marvelled at the sight, it was indeed beautiful. The way it was decorated and the interior design were not like anything she had seen. Images and memories swirled in her head as she glimpsed around the ballroom, unkindly memories haunting her of her pleasure. You will never amount to anything! You are a worthless and ignorant child! Shut up-leave us alone and go somewhere else, your hideous nature is making me sick. Voices of her childhood spun in her head, giving her a headache. Tears streamed down her face and her hands went up to her head, her hands clutching her hair. Make it stop, she pleaded silently. Soft cries of anguish escaped from her lips and her eyes were closed in pain. She felt as though she was going to be sick and rushed off to the bathroom, not even bothering to excuse herself. Of course later she felt horrible about it, but she could not stand to be there. It was as if her mother was there again, mocking her and making her feel as if she was useless. She could not stand it. Aly let out a low scream, not one that could be heard from the dining hall, but if someone was in the hallway, it would definitely be heard. She collapsed on the hard floor of the bathroom and quietly sobbed, her hands rushing to her face. She felt as though she had when she was younger, an insignificant and worthless child that would be much better off in a desolated place where no one would be bothered by her presence. There she stayed for several minutes, simply crying until her heart was content. After about ten minutes, she got up and went to study her appearance. Her face was ashen grey and her eyes were red and puffy. She quickly fixed her hair and tidied her face as best as she could. After somewhat content with her appearance she made her way to the dining hall, where she took her seat next to Anime. * “I’m terribly sorry for my behaviour,” Aly apologized, “please forgive me. As we were saying, I am sorry but I am as well informed as you are about this Louis person. If only Lady Maurelle would have given us more information. “

*Anime’s eyes wandered over the ballroom noticing everything, the beautiful decorations and the people dancing. She noticed that the ballroom had an heir of mystery about it. It was such an old beautiful room; it must have been hundreds of years old. She wondered if Louis ever danced in the room with someone that he may have loved. Anime quickly brought her attention to Aly who had just run away. I wonder why she left there must be something bothering her……….was it me? When Aly came back about twenty minuets later her face was a bit red and she looked like she had been crying for some time. Anime new that Aly was trying hard to cover it though. “Aly…..are you ok? Do you need to talk about it, If you don’t that’s ok too.” Anime said in a truly concerned voice.*

*Aly adverted her eyes in shame. It was obvious that her appearance gave her away- that she had been crying. Tears swelled in her eyes as she reminded herself that she was not to cry, she was a big girl now and she had no reason to, the past was the past. Anime, this young girl next to her was concerned about her and she had never once had anyone concerned about her. She simply went about life trying to prove her mother’s harsh words wrong, that one day she would be someone that would make her mother proud and ashamed for the way she had treated her. She could try and pretend to the young girl next to her that nothing was wrong, that she had simply yawned and the tears started to form, but that would be a lie. If it was one thing her mother had beaten into her, was never tell a lie. Aly laughed harshly at the time when her mother had abused her because she had stolen a cookie from the cookie jar and then told her mother that it had not been her. Her mother threw a fit when she had found out and… Well, they were hard memories for her to recall, they mostly ended with her crying and sore. Aly’s dark eyes looked at Anime warily, as if struggling with something to admit to her everything, to have someone finally know. Finally, she could not hold it back any longer.* “It was my mother,” Aly laughed bitterly, “ She was always abusive to me, and only me. I was the youngest you see, I had an older sister and brother who were very successful in their younger years. Both on the teams that were tried out for at school and they were very popular. Me- well, I was not like them. I didn’t want to follow in their footsteps, they were bitter sweet as you would say. Nice to their friends, and terrible to the others who weren’t. They were fake. My mother always adored them and when I was younger she would always tell me that I was to grow up to be like them, popular and perfect. As the years went by, I started off like them and then decided that it wasn’t right and I quit all the teams that I was on and dumped my so called friends. That threw my mother into her first rage. She began telling me how I was horrible and how stupid I had been, not knowing that potential I had to be like my siblings. I told her that I didn’t want to and from that point on, our relationship as mother and daughter was balancing on the point of a knife. Sure she would get me everything I needed, but that was it. She hardly looked at me and even after everything I tried, she was always ashamed to admit to everyone I was her daughter. Every night she would come in my room and well, lets just remind you that she was abusive. She had told me that she was punishing me for not growing the way she had told me how to. It was when I was thirteen that she finally sent me off on my own, she kicked me out of the house and gave me all but twenty dollars. She told me never to speak to her or see her again. She was disowning me. One night, about a month later, I saw her dancing with my siblings in a very well decorated room. She was twirling and laughing and having a great time and every minute that I watched, I wished I could be in there with her. I still love her as my mother, but until I prove myself worthy of being her daughter, I guess that is how I could say that, she had never been in touch. Seeing the ballroom reminded me of that day and I guess I lost control…I am very sorry to bother you with my story but it is finally good to tell someone. Thank you for listening.” *
