"Papa taught me a little bit of Gaelic," Taki chimed quietly, watching Manuela in awe. "But I haven't ever heard anyone speaking Spanish. Papa says that people who know a lot of languages have rich feet, whatever that means..." He clambered over the top of his desk, and dragged the chair under, moving so he was sitting in a way that made it easier to talk to them.

It certainly made it easier to know if the people in the congregation were talking about her. Last week she had heard one of the woman suggest that she was an evil spirit, sent to bring them bad luck. But Estelle had stopped that rumor before it got out of hand. "I've never heard anything Gaelic," she admitted to Taki, "But Mama says where she's from everyone speaks Spanish." She had really had to try not to laugh at the thought of Antony kicking something, but she had managed it.

"Wow, spanish? Gaelic? That's neat!" She said with a grin, for the moment perking up and forgetting about the horror of being in school. At the mention of an assignment, though, she was wary. But it turned out that they weren't going to work today-thank goodness! "That doesn't sound too bad," she admitted about his assignment. This was much easier then Liam's lessons. Finally deciding this wasn't a place of doom, or at least not yet, she smiled at Calder. "You're not bad Mr. Q!" Liam would have worked her to the bone.

"I think it would be great to know more than one language," Antony said, mentally noting that he needed to learn another one. "Do you use the same alphabet as we do for them?"

"There're the same letters but fewer... And everything sounds different..." Taki's brows creased, and he sat forward on his chair. "Like... There's a place papa says he liked to visit called Sligo. It's spelled S-l-i-g-o." ((Pronounced Slah-go for the record... Yeah, Gaelic's wierd >_>)) Taki beamed at being able to share something with the new people. "I'm Taki by the way..." he added, realizing all of a sudden that he hadn't introduced himself to the new ones. Manny and Antony, he thought they were?

"Spanish uses the same letters," Manny tossed in, "Just with accent marks." Oh, so that was Taki, the name fit him. "My name's Manuela," she told him, though she figured if he was the teacher's son he already knew that.

"I'm Antony," Antony said politely, his mind still on the subject of using the same letters for different languages. "I didn't see a class for different languages, at least, not that I remember, does Language Arts include different languages?" he asked. "And I wasn't going to sign up for PE, or Self Defense, but Father signed me up on his own. So now I have six classes."
In other words, he thought darkly, languages would have to wait unless it was included in this class.

While Riley might have been interested at the start of the conversation, it seemed that was fading away. Talk of letters and school could only be so interesting for so long. She sighed heavily and rested her elbows on the desk, chin in her palms. She half listened, but...well, she was fading. This was boring. She shifted her feet about under the desk, barely able to contain her restlessness.

"I don't think so.... Papa said he teaches English class, and that Language Arts was just a fancy way of saying that..." Taki peered over his shoulder at Calder.
"I will have to admit, I won't be teaching any foreign languages. I only know Irish Gaelic and English," Calder admitted, then went back to his paper shuffling. "This is an English class first and foremost."
"I'm in PE!" Taki said brightly, tail twitching happily, then his face darkened. "And math and science and social studies, and music and art..."

Manny perked up. Oh good, then there'd be another friend in some of her classes. She leaned over to Riley, pushing the other girl playfully with her shoulder, "You'll so beat me in PE." She needed to cheer up a bit, was there anything in here she'd like. Hmm, maybe Mr. Q would let them draw on the board! She shot her hand into the air, waving it quickly, "Mr. Quoile! Can we write stuff on the board? Like our favorite things?"

So they would all see how much his father bullied him during practice. Wonderful. Antony didn't let that thought show on his face, merely looked at Mr. Quoile, waiting for his reply to Manny.
And he had been right, another language would have to wait.

Calder looked up from the paper he was reading over, and blinked. "Oh... Yes, go right ahead. Feel free to erase my writing," he added, then glanced back and up at the words. They were probably higher than most of the kids could reach. Well, other than his name...
Taki perked up, and scampered off his chair to the board, grabbing the first piece of chalk that he could get his hands on. Drawing! He loved to draw, and to color, and paint, that too.
