Oh well he was just the life of the party wasn't he! Being this optimistic and perky all the time wasn't the easiest of feats and after a few moments she released a sigh. It wasn't one of exasperation, she just wasn't sure of exactly what to do in order to get him to respond to her in a more sociable fashion. She didn't mind being teased, little jests here and there made life fun but when he seemed to be belittling her it was a little different...

"Maybe you are right," She offered at last, though her ears weren't quite as perked as they had been before and she was already beginning to look elsewhere. A female could only be as flirtatious as the material she was provided with - while she could talk to an inanimate object for a while, the lack of response made the conversation decidedly one sided and pointless.

Her father had always said looks weren't everything. Perhaps she had been wrong in assuming that he would have provided her with some entertainment. It seemed he really did have a personality of a mouldy tree stump! There was no point beating about the bush or flogging a dead soquili now was there?

Now how could she put this...?

Without seeming rude.

"With all due respect," She coined the phrase she had heard her father use quite frequently in verbal jousts, "I may enjoy the company of others but to be spoken down to as though I am nothing more than a blade of grass is an affront," Her voice was much quieter now but she ensured she maintained eye contact, she wanted to prove that she wasn't just a silly girl.

"I apologise for interrupting you, but I should think that perhaps..." Her ears flicked as she heard another faint hollar of her companion in the distance and a ghost of a smile appeared on her lips. Well at least one of them was doing their job right!

"I should allow you to return to your own activities, though you have my thanks for the company..." She finished uncertainly, rather disappointed by her own finish. She was certain she could do better than that.

His tail flicked, so she wasn't a push over. Tables turn quickly now, don't they. But he was an expert at that now wasn't he. "Forgive my rudeness Mademoiselle Sparks..." he eyed her suspiciously. Something didn't seem right, her little friend seemed to come in at just the right moment of time as if he had been watching the entire time and he almost felt like he was being played for a fool.

Ares watched her, "Perhaps another time when I'm not distracted." he shrugged, giving her that wild eyed smirked. Something in those empty eyes spoke freedom one who lived and not sat around on their bum 24/7. "My intent was not to talk down to you as though you were nothing ma petite. My apologizes..." he whispered to her as he got closer to her eyeing her little friend. "...again." his wings brushed against her side and he felt her warmth collide with his. "My company is not always wanted, but your thanks is appreciated." he turned back to look at her, once more. Wondering if indeed he would continue his journey or perhaps stay and talk with her. He had upped his game in the end, but maybe just for the slight thrill of a chase.

Perhaps it was Ares' paranoia but her friend was much further away than his shout indicated. He was just exceptionally loud and given his tiny size, would find it very difficult to see anything at all. The long grass often proved difficult for him but it also gave him an excuse to shout - after all, he could use the excuse that he was lost and Sparkles could always find him at a later date if she needed him.

...Right now, she didn't.

Apparently her father's jousting techniques worked, for the stallion had changed his tone ever so slightly in accordance to hers and had offered up an apology. While she wasn't entirely convinced, she did afford a slight smile in response and remained where she was as he drifted towards her. She was confident and secure enough in her own form to rarely be intimidated by an approaching stallion...even when he brushed against her side and the feathers tickled at her stomach.

A tease?

"Perhaps your company is not always wanted because you give of the air of disliking it," She chirped at last, her tone wasn't sharp...just matter-of-fact. Even as she had approached him his body language had been harsh and uninviting, most would have avoided him for that reason alone.

"Are you always grumpy or is your face just stuck like that?"

"Maybe because I never cared for someone to be around that much?" he gave her a questioning look. "After all if you are indeed nice to someone, they can wear out there welcome...and then when you break it to them. They get all heart broken. It really is quite sad." he remembered a few mares and a stallion that thought they were 'true' friends but he hadn't ever trusted anyone that much.

He wondered how she would take those comments. But he didn't know her all that well. Truth be told, he had many mare friends that he looked after like sisters. And even looked after one of them's childeren when they were younger. He was a softy for foals believe it or not. It was rather sad, seeing how he acted sometimes.

"My face is just stuck like that." he chuckled slightly. Still not a full hearted laugh or a true smile. But not everyones perfect, but one such as himself had an excuse even though he never used it as one. His family life was getting better and he wasn't as cold hearted as he used to be but he was still on edge.

He watched her come closer to him. Just on one meeting he wasn't going to let her get to his mind, heavens no. But he didn't mind her prescence. Not at all. "One of my...friends I guess you could say." he thought about it for a second. Friend worked. "She calls me Monsieur Medusa. Because apparently my eyes could turn another into stone by the way I looked at another. Harsh and uninviting." he shrugged.

"They never bothered me."

Well that was sad but she had noticed from previous encounters that while she may deem it sad, certain individuals were perfectly happy with how well they were in life. While she considered it lonely they considered it peaceful, tranquil or any other number of adjectives. All in all, she was a sociable creature and it was most certainly not something she would deem preferential...

Nevertheless, when he did return her question with a somewhat joking response she did raise a brow. For one so blunt and incapable of social activity he had a fast wit that she had to view with respect. Granted, it was a shame he didn't laugh more as it softened his voice into a more desirable lilt but who was she to tell him that? He was most certainly set in his ways and it would take some one truly remarkable to change that.

Someone who didn't 'out stay their welcome' as he so kindly put it.

"I would say I am inclined to agree with her, your eyes are cold." She wasn't one to lie and it seemed this meeting was beyond compliments. They seemed inappropriate and perhaps even unnecessary given the nature of this soquili - it didn't seem like he would enjoy them. "But perhaps it is only a lucky few who see them burn with warmth and outsiders will envy them."

She was a bit of a romantic at heart and knew from the tales of the elders that on occasions the brooding stallion really did have a gentle heart. She wasn't going to question, but she wasn't going to agree to it either until she had conclusive proof.

Which would be never.

"That being said, not everyone is heart broken when you inform them that they have outstayed their welcome. If they are anything like me they will express gratitude for your time and permit to take their leave," She nodded in a matter of fact fashion. She wasn't one to chase her friends around, if they were about she said hello but she didn't constantly drive them insane with her company.

"I would rather have an individual be honest with me, then lead me down a false trail."

"Words well spoken." he watched her, "They must not be too harsh otherwise you wouldn't have conversed with me in the first place no?" The intensity in them must have grown some what, almost as if he could feel it. "I doubt if anyone would envy my eyes, no one would want to see the horrors that they have ma cherie." He didn't seem threatning, rather sad as he whispered "No one," again. For he was taught not to show emotion and that was the very thing he was doing. What he was taught, and now it seemed like everyone frowned upon it and it was almost like they were wanting him to change for them. And he wasn't about to, if anything he would change for himself.

Ares looked at her, "How kind of you to put it that way. Then again, I don't think you would have to leave anyone's company would you? Perhaps other stallions anyways..." he shrugged. "Most probably go over head over hooves?" he said as if he were trying to flatter her. And his smooth, silky tone knew just how to do it almost perfectly.

"That depends on the person, there are those who would envy you far more than you realise," While she certainly wasn't one of them, she knew there would always be at least one person who insisted on wanting something another had. She had seen her fair share of what she deemed 'horrors' and she was prepared to live with them and accept them but she wasn't about to wish she had seen what another had.

It was best not to question, regardless of the tone of voice he next uttered in.

"As to why I chose to speak to you this long - it has nothing to do with your eyes or your body language." She gave a shrug and glanced briefly at her fluffy hooves before offering a wry smile. "I've always found that judging by appearances can be misleading, especially if so many stallions prefer to play the role of the aloof...until they realise it doesn't work quite so well."

Nevertheless as he attempted to complement her she did respond with a good natured laugh.

"More often than not that is the case, but at other times I have been shooed away like a gnattering foal. It all depends on the type of soquili - mares don't seem to favour me quite so much as stallions do I fear."

He didn't know if anyone would ever envy him. He simply couldn't see it and he would be enthralled if he ever did find someone who did. He shifted slightly as he dwelled on that fact for a moment but the point was the conversation had moved on and he didn't mind it.

"Perhaps they aren't playing aloof, maybe its true and they simply aren't interested. But I'd still find it hard to believe." he shrugged slightly

He listened to her laugh and it was almost as if he'd remember for a good long while because it seemed to ring in his ears, and not in a bad way. She had a soft and pleasant to the ear laugh.

"Mares can be that way. Then again more often than most stallions are the same way. Just less vicious in words." he knew that some mares had sharp tongues he himself had a silver tongue but he was getting better at not using it to insult another like in the olden days. That had gotten him in more trouble than he bargained for as a colt.

"A simple fact of life, I suppose they don't appreciate the invasion of their territory." Sparkles mused moreso to herself than to Ares, however she did afford a small smile. As far as she was concerned, the land was no one's to claim for an eternity, a soquili could only claim it for a mere day at most and then move on. Such were her nomadic beliefs that her plot to 'take over the world' was more to do with the people in it than the land itself.

...Of course no one ever understood her logic when she pointed this out to them. According to them, conquering the world was 'land' and not 'soquili' but she saw things very differently. Perhaps it was her travelling, her up bringing or simply her train of logic that caused it but she didn't exactly conform. She always preferred to view things the way she wanted to.

She saw and heard only what she wanted to as well.

"As for playing aloof, all want company at some point in their life. Sometimes they are so set in their ways they can't express that deep desire for company and are left alone." In ways she had a point, while some may prefer solitude for the most part they did need attention sometimes. Constantly practising ways to scare people off left you unable to express a need for someone to be there.

"So sometimes, it's a good idea just to double check...just in case." This was not her own logic, it was the logic of her mother and she had to thank her for that one.

"For example, for all your stiff body language...you are still talking."

He smirked, "Indeed." he replied as he watched her, "Though I don't think that advice applies to everyone." he tried not to think about it to much, for the more he thought about it the more it reminded him of himself.

His cool eyes grazed over her as if she was a dusty book becoming a new. This he had not seen in such others and quite frankly it seemed to scare him. Those deep eyes flickered away for one moment before he turned back to her, "It seems though I have been conversing it must come to an end for I do have to get back but perhaps a rain check on the happenings of today ma cherie."

"Well, you never know!" Ever the optimist, Sparks wasn't fully prepared to admit that her way of thinking didn't apply to everyone. In her opinion everyone deserved and needed company sometimes. Granted, she had never met a Skinwalker and couldn't fathom the concept of a being void of emotions but for now she was comfortable being blissfully ignorant.

Nevertheless, it appeared their time together was to be cut short. For whatever reason it seemed this stallion actually had constructive activities to be getting along with. That in itself was strange but Sparkles could only provide him with a nod of acceptance and another smile. Well, for all his grumpy body language he was a reasonably pleasant stallion.

"Very well then, good luck in your endeavours..."
