Meara crept into the grove, placing each hoof carefully as she made sure there wasn't anyone else around. When she saw that there wasn't, she smiled, and went over to the hidey hole where she had put her new diary.

She knelt down, settling in with her tail flicking behind her in the golden sun. She unwrapped the leather covering from the book and pen, then pulled the chain from around her neck. It held a little golden key on the end of it, which fit perfectly into the lock on the book!

Once she had everything set up, the little filly tilted her head thinking of what to write...

Hello Diary,

I've never done this before, but it sounds like fun!

My name is Meara, and I'm a centaur... I suppose you must be more than a book if you can keep secrets, right? So... you need a name, too.

Rime says you like any name I give you, so I'll call you Fawn. I hope you like that name.

I don't have a whole lot to say right now, but I'll tell you about where I'm keeping the book, okay?

It's a little sunny clearing in the woods by Rime's house. Rime lives in a house under a hill! It's so weird. Oh! Rime is the lady I'm staying with. You'd never tell, cause she looks like a human, but she's a dragon!

Anyway, the clearing is by her house, and it's surrounded by maples and oaks, and a few pine trees. There's a big tree that fell over in the middle, and it's got a few places to hide things. I keep you in the best hiding place, Fawn! Wrapped up so the rain and bugs can't get you.

But I keep other things in other places. One hole has pretty shiny rocks... and another one has some dried flowers in a book that I keep wrapped up, too.

I'll tell you about them as I find more, okay?

I have to go now. Bye!

Meara closed up the diary and locked it, putting the chain back around her neck. She wrapped it up in the leather pouch, and then replaced it.

Standing, she shook herself free of bits of grass and dirt, and then quickly checked the rest of her treasure to make sure they were okay. Seeing that they were, she trotted off towards the house, where Rime had been calling for her.
