So, let me get this straight…

Someone tries to explain to you people their point of view of the situation, and all you can do is ignore her and keep posting how much you’re right? I dub this thread unworthy of the title 'debate'. More like, 'agree with me and only me because I am right and you are wrong'. I mean, if you have a question and are looking for answers, the logical reaction to someone trying to help would be to listen and discuss. But I suppose that just means your faith is just as close-minded as the ones you judge.

A sad story... sweatdrop

Well... the pope can say what he wants.
I believe that because both Catholics and Protestants believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins were both saved neutral .

I read a statement today that Pope Benidict wrote stating that Catholicism is the only true path of Christianity and to God. This concerned me on many levels. I'm protestant mind you. What does it matter what church we belong to? We all believe in God and in his son Jesus. It seems so trivial to keep building walls in the Christian faith when we should tear them down and be united in our faith.

Do any of you agree, disagree?

Would you please show us the statement. The only papal document that resembles what you are saying is Domineus Ieus which was written by John Paul II.

It states, that whether knowingly or not, ALL PEOPLE go to heaven via Crhist, The Way the Truth and The Light. "No comes to the Father except by Me" said Jesus.

Each person is judged according to his/her own light. We are not saying that you have to accept Jesus to be saved. That is a Protestant teaching. Only saying that Jesus sacrifice was for ALL mankind/womankind/he-she-kind and if you are honest and follow what has been placed in your heart via man's natural sense of right and wrong you will be just fine!

It is the Protestants who mislead you. T'is not their faults, because they do not know what Mother Church truly teaches via the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Please show us the document and source.

Merci!

Again, we have not yet been shown proof that Pope Benedict XVI indeed said or wrote this !!!

Thats whats you call false teachings...

False teaching is attacking a straw man. Your arguments fall under the "straw man" false debate tactic. Go google it to see what a straw man argument is, beloved in Christ.

Where is he evidence that Papa Bene said this?

"Jeers and Mockers are Fools." Proverbs.

You should spend more time with your Bibles than attacking something you know little about.

Redem
The statement in question was not from the pope, but from the congregation for the defence of the faith, or some such group. And it essentially says this "Our faith is the correct one".

Shocking, no?

Redem, show us the document. I think they are referring to Pope John Paul's papal decree Dominus Deus which they are completely misrepresenting.

Papa Bene is taking on the Moslems right now. I doubt he has time or interest in debating skeptic PROTS who use irresponsible debating techniques.

Mon Dieu! Blessed be the Name of God.

You know, I'm getting tired of all these Catholics-vs-Protestants bickering. Ever since my ministries days in the Charismatics Movement, then my ministries days in the Pentecostal Church, and finally during my (beginner) layman's days in the Catholic Church, it seems that whenever Catholics and Protestants meet, the main topic would almost invariably be "You are false, We are true" (that goes for Caths and Prots alike smile )

Can we for once (and forever) stop this bickering and 'process' the world like we should? You know, the Great Commission as written at the very end of The Gospel of Matthew?

Can we for once (and forever) walk in peace, hand-in-hand as believers of Christ -- with agreed differences? God does not intend for us all to be uniform, or homogenous. Even in the Catholic Church there are various kinds of people, ranging from the silent hermitian* people to the boisterous charismatics.

Let us stop all these nonsense bickering and focus on our part in the world: To be Salt and Light.

That's my .02 smile

And yay, Old Nurse! Heh you nailed it down right smile

Yar. The Pope is entitled to his OPINION, but I would say that he is wrong. It doesn't matter what church you belong to that decides whether or not you go to Heaven or Hell (or Purgatory as some Catholics would add), but what you personally believe in your heart. Although I'd say that I'd rather go to my Protestant church than a Catholic church because I don't agree with most of their teachings. All you have to do is find a church whose doctrine is closest to what you believe.

Shut up. All of you.
The Rules
Differences of Denomination: Yes, I do agree that in some cases denomination truly does make a difference on the fate of your eternal soul. I know that there are many others who agree that not everyone who claims to be Christian truly is. That aside, we are not here to focus on those differences. This guild is non-denominational, and I shall not tolerate someone saying that their denomination is the only correct one outside of specified discussion threads. If you would like to address things you label wrong or problematic about another denomination, please create a separate topic for the purpose of that discussion and it shall be added to the official link list.

I realize that the main purpose of these discussions is out of love, and is in an attempt to ensure the safety of someone's soul. This is very important to discuss, and I recognize this. However, I see absolutely no need for it to come up in every other topic, and from here on out, it shall not be allowed. When Christians focus on differences like these, it takes away from the most important thing we DO have in common: faith in Jesus Christ. Yes, we are here to inform. But there is a proper method to doing so.

1. DO NOT make threads debating whether one Christian sect is better than another. Any such threads will be deleted immediately.

2. DO NOT call any Christian sect 'un-Christian' or otherwise question their devotion to Christ. Any group professing belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God is, by definition, Christian and will be accorded the same respect as any other.

3. DO NOT refer to anyone or any group as 'Satanic' or any similar insult.

this thread is not about catholicism-vs-protestantism. Any further debate and this thread will be locked.

Ok Let me make this clear.

1. I'm not saying that any church is better than the other. I'm a protestent but I've attended Catholic school for 12 years-from 1st to 12th grades. I've seen both sides of the fence. I understand Catholic teachings. But I've been told that it is believing in Christ that brings us to God no matter what denomination we belong to.

2.I just wanted to know what people thought about it. I don't have people that I can talk to about this so I come here with my questions. I just want multiple points of view on a topic before I get offended or make a concrete desision,

I'm sorry If I made this unclear from the first post. I didn't mean to spark any debate or division. sweatdrop

People will always interpret the bible as they like. When I read it I take it literally unless it is described as a parable like in many of the verses in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I didn't say that you can believe anything you like and go to heaven. I said that it doesn't matter the church you go to that decides if you go to Heaven OR Hell, it is what you personally believe. Now when I said or hell, that left it open that your beliefs MAY take the judgment on where you go. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear before.

I agree with you comlpletely! heart Only through unity can the church move to a higher more intimate relationship with Christ.

But I'm surprised that I didn't hear anything on the news about him saying that O.o

I didn't see it anywhere in the Bible that you could only be called a true christian if you belonged to a certain division of the christian world. from what i've read, what matters is that you believe in jesus as god's son and accept him as your saviour. it doesn't matter if you're protestant or catholic.
