Kainda smiled at him as he seemed so excited, and then made the bugs day when she let go and it spread it's wings to fly away. "Bugs are pretty fascinating creatures, if you ever get a chance, look at their wings, they're very pretty." Kainda suggested to Holden before bending down to start digging though the dirt, not even thinking of dirting one out of the only two pairs of pants she owned.

She really did need more clothes. She also needed a job though. Oh she needed a lot of things but there was nothing she could do about it now.

"You'll also find good bugs in the dirt, mostly worms though. Another way to find bugs is to trap them, by leaving out, say a small peiece of apple, the bugs will come to eat the apple as it rots and you can see what kind of bugs come." Kainda smiled at the boy, this was a lot easier than she thought it would be, kinda fun, then again she was in the friend mode, not in the parent mode, but why should she be in parent mode anyway? Parent mode was always so bosy.

"You think so?" Kainda looked back to Tristan and grined at him, "I hope so, people so rarely trust me with anything important."

Holden's eyes followed the bug until it was out of sight then the raccoon boy looked back at Kaindra and then at the dirt she was digging through and grimaced a little. Dirt was... dirty and he didn't much like being dirty. Sure he had let himself get a little dirty for this but this was actual dirt. He bent down to watch what she was doing closely instead.

"I do think so, you'll make a wonderful parent," Tristan said moving closer to the pair and leaning against the tree where the bug search had originated.

Kainda blushed a bit a Tristan's compliment. People didn't compliment her much normally, at work she normally was doing something wrong that she should have gotten right by now and her friends gave comliments but on things she knew she was good at like moutian biking, or running or baseball or some other sport thing.

"Thanks's Tristan, that makes me feel better." He had to have some idea what he was talking about, after all he was being a parent, maybe he wasn't ideal but then again who was?

Her eyes drifted to Holden and noticed how he tried to keep himself from the dirt, then remembered something, racoons were clean, foxes weren't, she enver had a problem with digging though the dirt but he might.

"Not much one for dirt are you?" she asked, and got up, dusting off her hands, "Then I'd stick to the tree's, they're slightly clenaer, though you do have to worry about sap. Anoying stuff."

'Not much one for dirt are you?' Holden made a face in response, him not liking dirt was a bit of an understatement actually.

He nodded agreeing that he needed to searched trees he stood up and went back to the tree. Of course he decided Tristan was standing right where he wanted to check for bugs so he pushed his guardian to try and get at the bark there,

"Yeah... he dislikes anything dirty, I think he's obsessive compulsive, add that onto how he takes anything that catches his eye and how pushy he is, he's a bit of a handful," Tristan said with a bit of a laugh as he moved out of the way for the boy.

"Ah, I remember doing that. When I was little just 'cause I liked shiny things, and then there was the rebellious youth period."Kainda blushed and rubbed the back of her head, getting dirt all in her hair. "I'd do anything as long as it pissed my parents off. I wasn't that good of a kid." she admited with a grin and then glanced at Holden.

"You're not that bad though, huh? You just like shiny things and learn and what you want. You still know your dad loves you though, right?" That was the big thing to the fox, she would make sure that her son knew that she loved him, all the time. There would be no doubt for him, not like with her.

Holden nodded, vaguely aware that he was being spoken too. Kaindra was no longer talking about bugs so she had lost the little raccoon's interest as he sought to find bugs of his own.

"What my father would call my rebellious stage only ended about a year or so ago. I was a pretty good kid I think, my parents spoiled me so I don't know exactly," Tristan said reflecting a little. He couldn't remember being yelled at much as a child, but he could never do anything wrong in his mother's eyes at least.

Tristan once again felt as though he should contribute more to the conversation since Holden was once again paying attention to only himself. He shuffled his feet a little, hands in his pockets once more. He would resemble a nervous teenager in someways, as he pondered other topics of conversation.

"Oh I was bad and I made sure of it." Kainda told him, ruffeling the dirt flakes from her pale blonde hair. She kept her voice casual though, it really didn't matter to her anymore. "It was kinda a life's goal. Technically I'm sitll in my rebellious stage considering I wont talk to my parents, I'm living on my own and I'm not going to college but that's cool with me. I like who I am, ya know?"

Kainda always thought that was most important, to like yourself, than it was to have others like you. She was oung, flaky and about to become a single mom while she had no work and no savings but she liked herself and she knew who she was, now all she had to do was instill that into her child, to be proud of the same thing and she knew it be a sucess.

"Here's another good place." Kainda mentioned as she moved to a root and started to peal away the bark, then work her way into the wood a bit to revel some termites. "Termites aren't pretty but they're kinda fascinating, like ants or bees. Each one spends all his life trying to please one person."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2007 10:11 pm

Holden bent down to look at the termites. The bugs themselves were like she said, not pretty, but the twisting pattern of tunnels they had eaten into the wood were pretty interesting. He knew ants and bees but these termites, they were far more interesting.

"Sometimes I wish I could stop talking to my father, he is... and angry old man," Tristan said trying to think of things he could call his father and not having to worry about his son repeating later, "But my mother is gone now and he'd be alone if it weren't for me. And well... I know how much it sucks to be alone."

Tristan took up leaning against the tree once more and watched the two again. After a moment he looked to his boy and said, "So have you had enough Holden?"

Holden looked up to him with his large brown eyes and then to Kaindra. He wasn't done so long as she had things he could learn he wasn't done.

Kainda saw that Holden was distracted so she looked up to Tristian, frowning but understanding the problems with family. She supposed she was lucky that she didn't feel a moral obligation to deal with any of her family that she didn't want to.

"That sounds tough. but you're a good guy, at least you know that and I bet he still notices, still cares. Just sometimes people have problems admiting that. I'm not gonna do that. My parents...I never felt loved, ya know? Not trying to sound whiny or anything but yeah. So I'm not gonna make that mistake with this kid. I'm gonna make sure he feels loved, you know? Do you do that with Holden?" Kainda asked, tilting her head to the side before looking down to the racoon boy.

She was about to point another thing out when Tristian asked to go. Her ears drooped a little because she was having fun, she thought they were too but she didn't say anything, jsut looked back at Holden, not getting his silent question, just watching him watch her.

And Holden did watch her, still hopeful. After a moment of doing that and nothing happening he looked to Tristan as if pleading with him to make her do something.

Tristan was getting better at reading his son but it still took him a minute to work it out. He wanted something... he seemed sort of distressed maybe it was a need for the bathroom? No... Hmm... He studied his boy for a moment trying to figure it out.

"I think he wants to stay, wants to know If you have anything else to show him. I think," he said, really not entirely sure of himself. He was getting but he still wasn't the best.

"Oh. Oh, yeah I got more to teach you. It's a shame there aren't any fruit trees around." Kainda admited as she looked around the forest. She had searched for fruit trees, she loved taking fruit right from the branches, like she did as a kid when she went wandering for hours on end during the summer. She missed those days sometimes. Not the nights when she came home but the days, the freedom of forever to spend and still it ended to soon. Kainda sighed but grined.

"But you need to get a little more vocal there, buddy." Kainda reached down and tosseled Holden's hair and prayed that wasn't taking it too far. Kids liked to be touch right? The contact, the proof that you saw them as equals to everyone else around them? So many people treated kids like really intellgent pets which they weren't, even when they did have cute litle animal parts. kainda frowned a bit when she remembered someone treating her like a dog because she was kitsune, some people were just idiots, she decided. "But lets see if we can find some more bugs, huh? There are some prettier ones if you go a bit deeper into the forest."

Kainda looked back to Tristian, making sure this was all okay with him. After all, he was the one who was proably gonna have to lead them back. Her lack of directional sense would mean they could easily get lost in the forest.

To be honest Holden really didn't like it when adults ruffled his hair, but she was an adult with endless supply of important knowledge, or at least that is how he saw it so he wasn't about to complain about it.

When she mentioned going deeper into the forest Holden he grab a hold of her hand and tried to pull her along as he had done with Tristan earlier. He couldn't care less if Tristan said no, this is what he wanted so he would go right ahead and do it.

Tristan straightened himself up. "He really does like you," he said with a smile, "and going further is fine." To be honest he didn't even think about the leading them back. He wanted Holden to be happy they spent so little time together he wanted him to enjoy the time they did.

Kainda could only smile as Holden grabed her hand and tugged her along. The forceful boy clearly knew what he wanted...and right now it was her. That made her smile, even though part of her though he was a bit of a user but she figured it didn't matter, especailly since he wasn't doing anything back.

"Thanks...Tristan." kainda looked back to the man and smiled as she triped a bit at the racoon boy tugged her forward but the kitsune just got her balence again as she laughed. "Sorry Holden, got a bit triped up."

Kainda lead the two boys though the forest, ears flicking as she listened for bugs, she pointed out a few trees and managed to show the interested boy a few new bugs, that made her smile, but eventually, even she ran out of stuff to say.

"Well that's about all I can say with the reasorces around me." Kainda finally admited to both men, grining a bit as she rubbed the back of her head, "Sorry Holden. I know you'd like to know more."

Holden looked up her with large brown eyes as she told him she had nothing else to show him. He had learned a lot but he still wanted more. He looked to the ground then and pouted a little, tail swinging back and forth slowly.

Tristan pat the now sad little boy on the head, he still had yet to figure out that Holden didn't like it. "Now Holden what do you say?"

Holden looked up at him. Was he serious? Sure Tristan had tried to teach Holden manners but he didn't talk, what was he suppose to say? The look Tristan gave him told him that he was indeed serious and it made the raccoon pout further but it got him to speak. "Fanks..." he muttered looking at the ground.

Tristan shook his head and looked at Kaindra, "Thank you for showing him all this stuff, I know he really appreciated it and so do I."

Kainda smiled at the boy's relucence to talk. She wondered if he'd grow out of that or if he'd always be naturally silent. The kitsune couldn't imagine it and then thought over how many times it would have beent better if she did just keep her mouth shut. Maybe Holden was lucky with this ablity to keep quiet, she certainly could have used it several times.

"You're welcome, I know you probaly want to know more but there are a limit to what I can teach you with just this kind of ground." she admited, rubbing he back of her head and then glanced to Tristan. "Hey, it's cool, I could use the practice, actually...uh...don't take this the wrong way but could I have your number? You know, if I have any questions sort of thing?" she gave a sheepish smile and hoped he didn't think this was some awkward attempt to flirt.

As far as Kainda was concered boys were an excellent distraction, but right now her life wouldn't need any distractions. Besides most the guys she knew, and had dated, would hate the thought of the kid so she was pretty much safe. But Trisitan wasn't the normal guy she hung out with and she just wnated to be friends, he seemed like he'd be really useful, even if he was bumbling along this trip too he was bumbling along a few steps before her.

Besides, her little Adair might like a play mate.
