For once it didn't matter. The town at night was desolate, only a street light here or there to guide the way. It looked so much like a ghost town, but that was expected. It was night after all and normal creatures unlike him preferred to sleep at night for one reason or another. They were such silly creatures to miss out on such a splendid time of day, but for once it didn't matter. Nothing mattered, cause he was home.
And in the end, nothing was better than that.
Golden claws clicked harmlessly against the sidewalk as he made his way throughout town. Absolutely nothing had changed since he'd been away, and that thought alone made him even happier, if it was possible.
He stopped and settled at a street corner, just for a moment to breathe in the night air and admire the normalcy of it all. Eyes wandered for awhile until he found himself staring down the block to figure seated underneath the light on the next corner over. Golden eyes glimmered in the above light as he examined the dark and hunched figure of a dustling. She, he was sure of that, was either depressed or frustrated. Judging from the fact he could practically feel the fury radiating from her, he opted for the later and carefully stood.
If this way any other time he would've left the other to her own devices and wandered out to bury himself in the sand per usual. Tonight was different though, he'd learned not to take things for granted. The ability to possibly help others included.
With a gentle smile on his beak he returned to the shadows of the street and slowly made his way down to the other side where the female was seated. He came to a halt to sit right at the edge of the halo of light, keeping himself hidden amongst the shadow of the nearby building, before speaking.
"What could possibly trouble one on such a glorious night," His golden eyes and fur seemed to shimmer in the sudden light as he tilted his head into range of the street lamp. "Oh, Dark Beauty."

She hardly took notice of him until he spoke. Who would bother to notice him when she was so frustrated...so depressed? And really, who even would bother to disturb a female demon while she was fuming? Was he mad?
Crimson eyes set a glare upon the undeserving male. She was just so pissed off right now. About what, she wouldn't admit out loud. That was a weakness she would never show openly. Any other emotion was up for fair game. But to admit she cared about someone she loved aside from maybe her father? Ha, such a thing would be unheard of in her life time.
"What?" She spat out angrily. "Why does it concern you? Go mind your own business." If she wasn't so caught up in her emotions, she would certainly act a bit more flirtatious. But she would play the dominant role in any relationship either way. Whatever she said or wanted was all that mattered to her.

Silas wasn't a very discriminate dustling, partial to the fact he'd seen a scant few that bore wings of any sort. Besides, why should the fact that one looks different on the outside mean that they are any different on the inside? He would've acted the same if an angel sat before him instead of the vision of dark beauty that was now glaring at him.
Silas logic was not geared towards survival, otherwise he might've been a bit weary of the fact he could've just invoked the wrath of this demoness. The literal stare of death he received from those crimson eyes seemed to bounce harmlessly off of him.
"It concerns me because one such as yourself should be enjoying a night like this, not fuming alone on some desolate street corner." His stare and expression seemed blank as he lower his head somewhat. "I'm sorry to say that looks can not kill, so you will need to take your anger out some other way."

Layla was almost certain the male dustling sitting before her was utterly stupid and lacked any sort of survival instinct. In a way, he sort of reminded her of her Eden. Stupid in that innocent kind of way. But also caring to the point of willing to risk his neck just to make her see. Ha, men, they were so silly when faced with the opposite sex.
"Then are you giving me permission to kill you instead?" She hissed. Her mere fangs could tear him apart and make meat pie out of him. If not a whip from her tail would surely at least knock him out, if not give him a concussion enough to make his brain bleed from the inside out. Even if he was a bit charming, maybe even growing up on her, Layla would never succumb to showing that weak side of her.

The idea that Silas lacked any and all sense of self-preservation would be spot on for the most part. It was also this fact that made him so dangerous when it came to violent encounters. Silas was more than capable of defending himself should the situation call for it, which was evident by the various scars hidden under his fur, and the slight limp he still carried from a broken leg in the past. Though death was defintely not waiting from him this night, he was pretty sure he'd still be hurting in the morning should a violent encounter break out between him and this particular female. That much was evident.
"If it would make you feel better, than by all mean."
Some might say that Silas turned stupid when faced with a member of the opposite sex. He'd prefered to be called honorable. While he held no qualms in defending himself, he would by no means strike a lady, no matter the situation.

That male must seriously lack some basic genetic instincts up there in the head. He just gave permission for a fuming female to tear him to shreads. No matter how noble he was, nobility wouldn't matter if he wasn't alive. If he didn't strike Layla, she would just prove more dominance over him. Her ego would only boost some more, and her lack of proper perspective would only spin further away from its original axis.
"So be it," She warned before jumping at him. Even if he was a male dustling, her size wasn't too far off from his. She was maybe a bit smaller compared to him, but she certainly packed a punch. Her claws weren't quite digging into his skin yet as they stood there on top of his shoulder blades. Her beak was just inches away from his neck. It was almost like she was testing him in a sense. Would he strike back, or not? Depending on his answer could very well change the course of his life.

Strange or not, these were principals he allowed himself to live by, and they had yet to fail him. A victory tributed to the fact he still drew breath, a little worse for wear but alive none the less.
At her warning he prepared himself for what he anticipated, maybe a claw aimed to gouge his eyes out or perhaps a lash from that particularly nasty looking barbed tail. Needless to say when the female rushed forward and barreled into him he was slightly surprised. His muscles rippled as he drew his strength forward at the last minute, allowing him to stand for a few moments longer before being tackled to the ground, the female posed threateningly ontop of him.
It was at this point that the door of no return seemed to slam shut behind him. He was no longer sure, no longer guarenteed to leave with his life...and for some reason that didn't trouble him as much as it should've. He felt the itch of her claws resting precariously on his shoulders and the threat of her beak inches away from his neck and for some reason, he really didn't care.
"Are you feeling better yet?" He asked quietly, staring at her with one eye due to his head being craned to one side, exposing his neck all the more.

Layla couldn't help but laugh inside out of pity for the poor thing. He was pinned down by a demon, male or female mattered little at this point. Her beak was mere inches away from the nape of his neck while her claws could dig into his shoulder at any second now. But was it him she was laughing at or herself? At this point she wasn't so sure anymore, not that she was sure to begin with. Most would pity the poor male staring right into death's door, but those with a little more prespective might pity poor Layla instead for her constant state of confusion.
Maybe if she was raised a little more...properly by her father she wouldn't have ended up this way. Or maybe if she had a mother to set her straight once in a while. All her life she got what she wanted either through force or a little string pulling. Legion didn't help one bit by spoiling her to the point of no return. In truth, she was still very much like a child at heart...confused, and maybe a bit lonely, too.
"Shut your trap," She snapped. A claw raised up into the air and danced very delicately across his neck. He could probably feel something running across his neck, but there wasn't enough pressure for any signs of pain...yet. "Maybe if I slit your throat you'll learn your place." She almost hissed at him as the pressure increased on her claw. He should start to feel some pain now, but it still wasn't enough to draw blood. She was just playing with him now, in her own little sadistic kind of way.

Confusion. Underneath the dire need for control and the toying and malicious intent, all the male could see was confusion. It was the sole reason he could remain calm, as all hope was not lost even at this point. Even as the itch of her claws was getting irritating he managed to shove that aside. Silas was always a stubborn dustling, picking his course and running with it to the end. Only this time the danger was slightly more...prominent.
The irritating itch of her claws was beginning to get worse and break through his concentration, but there was only a slight wince to show for it. Instead he chose to meet her eyes with his own. He was hoping she could see that he could see right through all of this and that they could maybe find a better end for all of this. Sure she was in control of the situation physically, however he had the edge mentally at this point.
"You could do that," he continued to speak despite her previous bark for silence. "And I'd bleed out right here, and you could go back to sulking in the shadows....alone." He wasn't totally stupid. He couldn't offer her a solution to all her problems, heck he didn't even know what the female was so upset about. A distraction from her troubles though, was totally plausible. The longer she kept up with the death threats and promises of bodily harm was time spent not moping in the shadows.

Anger overcame her. Who was he to tell her what to do?! This little...arrogant dustling. Doesn't he know he was treading the fine line of life and death? She could easily rip her claw across his throat, spilling his blood everywhere. It'd be a slow and rather painful death. He'd bleed out and at the same time die from the lack of oxygen. She could slice it just enough to make it even more painful by prolonging the time.
A light growl rumbled from her throat while her blood-red eyes narrowed facing his. "Sulking?! Who said anything about sulking?! You...you shut your face! Ok?! I will seriously rip your throat open if you don't shut up!"
Was she that transparent to him? She was upset about the fact that Eden left without a word; leaving her alone without much companionship. He was her toy; how dare he leave without her permission!
On second thought, maybe she should make him her toy, too. At least there could be temporary companionship there. She'd have to approach this matter very carefully; as to not seem compassionate in any way. A demon should never show weakness!

He saw it. The quick change as confusion suddenly took a back seat to anger. Either his plan to distract her had worked, or maybe he'd touched a nerve. Perhaps a combination of the two? Either way things suddenly became a bit easier. Confusion was dangerous, unpredictable. Anger on the other hand was just the opposite, in this case it was still dangerous, but much more manageable.
'Sulking, moping, fuming, it's all the same.' He kept that particular thought just that, a thought. Lack of self-preservation aside, even he wasn't that stupid or brash. Instead he did something for the first time that night
He said nothing, and kept his beak shut.
He allowed the silence to hang over them. He shifted slightly, the ache of his back and spine from being in such a position for an extended period of time taking precedence over the looming demonic threat above him. All of this was done under a pretense of awkwardness stemming from the sudden quietness. All he had to do was ditch all the bravado, downplay all the confidence and hand the reigns of the situation over to her. Just hand control over to her, and see where it lead. Hopefully someplace a little more forgiving then the concrete he was currently sprawled out on.

His silence stunned her. She expected his arrogant little beak to run off either begging for mercy or shouting nonsense. Why this little...! She planned on him speaking more after her threats. How could he ruin her plans so easily?
She became more infuriated than before. It was more-so she was irritated at herself than the male. She was expecting one thing, and he goes around to do the complete opposite.
Her plans were foiled.
Her dark beak drew closer to his. Her eyes met his and the distance was closer than ever. Not so subtly, she revealed those razor sharp fangs. The dark-colored beak opened wide, circling around Silas' throat as to say 'I can kill you in a snap'. Then, in almost the same manner she withdrew her beak and stepped off him; her claws withdrawn.
She still remained close to his side; definitely within swiping distance of a claw or two. "Don't think I'm letting you off easy or anything!" She blurted out, "It's just...maybe..Nevermind!"

He didn't actually mean to throw her for a loop again, but that's what happened. He thought for a moment that it might've actually helped the situation until without warning she drew incredibly close, her beak closing around his throat for a moment. His eyes widened slightly, his breath hitching as time stood still for a moment. Had he messed up? Did he just totally misread the current situation.
He couldn't help it as his breath rushed back to him when she pulled away as suddenly as had closed in. Not only had she backed off but she'd gotten off of him completely. Taking the gesture as permission to rise he did so.
A slight grin found it's way to his beak as his confidence came back to show. Before he could realize it to squish it back down he felt all the precarious little bones that made up his spine fall back into proper alignment with a pop. When he winced, it was real, not just to save face and buy himself some time. "Of course not..." He shifted a bit and winced again.
He moved to stand but instead his body pitched to side slightly accidentally brushing up against the dark female as she'd chosen to keep close to his side, for whatever reason. He quickly righted himself, wondering briefly why he was so disoriented from their little ordeal. With no anger or confusion to play off of, he could respond the only way he knew how.
"Say what's on your mind, unless you want to live with the regret?" Sitting side-by-side he turned to make eye contact for the first time since she'd had him pinned. "A penny for your thoughts, perhaps?"

The sudden brush of his fur against hers made her fur stand on its ends. She shivered lightly as if a ghost had passed through her. This was the first touch aside from her father's that anyone had given her. Who...Who said he could touch her!
She always wanted Eden to be the first to touch her, to understand her and accept her. Eden was supposed to be the first...of anything with her. She just didn't know how to show or tell him in a "normal" manner. Even if she did, she was far too stubborn to do it in her "normal" way. Perhaps some might find that feature of hers to be a selling point. Some might even find it...irresistibility cute.
"Hey! Don't touch me!" She growled. Eyes narrowed into a glare while she made a throat slicing motion with a claw. "I didn't give you permission to touch me!"
The touch was just so unexpected. It was accidental, but Layla was fuming on the inside.
"What's on my mind?! How much of a little punk you are! You are so annoying. Holy crap, I've never met anyone as annoying as you!"
Truthfully, though, she did want to talk to someone about Eden. If she spoke to her father or any of those females about it she'd feel embarrassed. A grown up female who can't express her feelings normally. Plus those females loved to gossip. They were like a bunch of gossiping housewives with nothing better to do. How annoying!

It had been an accident, heck he hadn't even really noticed it. So her outburst caught him completely off-guard. He flinched, nearly toppling over where he sat.
Silas had never really been popular with the ladies, but such a reaction over an accidental brush of fur. Sheesh. Talk about a confidence killer. As a quick precaution he inched away from her a bit. If she didn't want to be touched that so be it.
But all the growling, and death threats and need for permission was really starting to sound like a broken record. What could he do? Lay down on the spot and not move for fear of upsetting her again? She'd been in a constant state of 'upset' since he'd stumbled across her. He had to be the bigger dustling here and simply brush it off, or nothing would ever get accomplished.
He continued to listen to her throw his concern right back in his face, but suddenly being accused of being a 'punk' made him bristle in indignation. He'd been around for awhile, taken his fair share of lumps on the road of life; the twinge of pain in his right leg and uneven gait proof of that. How could she accuse him of being some young ruffian who chased tail all day?
He rose to stand, this time with purpose as he glanced over his shoulder to her, golden eyes flashing. It was quite easy to act insulted, especially when the indignation was real.
"Fine." His words were clipped and short. He was taking a moderate risk at walking away at this point. "If I'm really just annoying you with my concern, then I'll just be on my way and leave you to your thoughts."
With that said, he turned and started to do just that.
