My family stopped shopping at Wal-mart quite some time ago, even before all this stuff came out into the open. Target has a much nicer atmosphere, and until recently, our area still had smaller ones instead of those super stores. I gotta say, bigger isn't better. Small stores are so much better for quick stops.

Oh, and in case I missed something, what does this have to do with religious tolerance exactly? sweatdrop

Target isn't any better. The fired my cousin for no reason, and they won't advance my other cousin despite how hard he works.

It's a good debate. It has to do with human rights. Therefore, tolerance is involved, albeit not religious tolerance.

'Tis no crime to fire people, unless it was based on some sort of prejudice, etc.

If your other cousin works hard, and they don't advance them, then they should find a better place to work; one where your cousins talents/hard working can be better rewarded. Otherwise, there is nothing else to do, other than to "keep on truckin'."

However, if they have been working for more than a month, the company is forced to give 2 weeks notice of the firing of an employee. So, the whole "all your availability are belong to us" threat is an empty one. A petition, pardon my upcoming language, won't do s**t. It never has done s**t, it never will do s**t, not against a huge company like Walmart. Also, stores like Target are what stops Walmart from breaking any laws. As long as there is competition, it isn't illegal. Yes, the buisness has evolved into an oligopoly, but chains like Target are far too powerful to be swallowed up by Walmart.

Yes, Walmart is a very successful, albeit evil company. For a complete rant on how I can't believe that Walmart isn't german, check my journal.

RE: The closed down Walmart in Quebec: Unionizing was the dumbest thing those employees could have done. Had they not unionized, Walmart would not have seen them as a bother, and they would have kept the store open, and all of it's employees with jobs. Now, they are unemployed, all because they didn't see this coming. Poor fools. Walmart can afford to sacrifice a small town. The only way out, as I see it, is for stores like Target to allow Walmart to become a monopoly, so that the government can intervene, and pass a law that requires Walmart to sell itself to them and become a Government Corporation (Yes, governmentis can do that. Yes, it's cool.)

Well they arn't braking any right now stare if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

They may, however, cause towns to go into depression. Meaning, less money is being circulated in some area's. Meaning, worse economy overall (assuming other area money circulation stays the same). Meaning the value of the dollar decreases. Meaning we have to pay more to buy the "cheap" things. Worker's wages at wal-mart will thus increase, due to the rise in living expenses.

You see, such "lop-sided" competition can have drastic effects on the overall economy.
actually less money circulating causes a deflation, meaning prices for things go down, not up. corporations are supposed to do whatever they can legally to make money. this is how there are set up BY LAW. i don't like Wal-Mart/Sam's Club's treatment of employees either, but really the only way around it is to boycott them and accept paying higher prices for goods. now Wal-Mart saying to manufacturers that they must sell whole to them cheaper than to anyone else, that is a monopolistic practice. i heard about that being in the news before, but i don't remember what became of it.

I've always hated Wal-Mart. The lines are always long and if you can get in and out within an hour, you'll be lucky. They have always treated their employees badly, they have always barely paid their employees higher than minimum wage. The fact that they fired a bunch of employees for protesting doesn't surprise me too much either. A good majority of the people that are working at walmarts are young adults that still depend on their parents and are trying to pay for college. They can easily bounce back and get a different job.

I don't know about you, but everytime I see a walmart there are always plenty of other places around that one could get a job at and shop at. If a walmart puts a grocery store out of business, its because the majority of consumers decided that walmart was better to shop at. Not because walmart is some evil tyrant that boots a company out. The consumers do it. With out customers, there is no walmart.

Wal-Mart smells bad. stare I never buy anything there, really. So I guess I'm boycotting it, though I never really thought about it that way.

I did hear recently that wal-mart hires illegal immigrants???? I also don't like wal-mart because they abuse their fish ( i.e. never cleaning tanks, not feeding or over feeding fish, leaving dead fish in the tanks) I've noticed that most of the abuse happens with the betta fish and small gold fish. scream

Don't go against all Targets. All in all, it is up to the manager. Some managers, like my Anut Pam, are good at their jobs and work hard. On the other hand, my anut saids that a lot of people get promoted just because they made friends with someone higher and they get promoted without the proper quailifations.

Oh Wal-mart, I have to agree with SyphaBelnades. Target doesn't drive you crazy like Wal-mart. Something having to do with no screaming kids... but I have to disagree with smaller is better. I like bigger stores because of the selection, if you ask why don't I go to a mall, its because Target is cheap. Oh, I like this service of Target, they have people to bag for you. Wal-mart doesn't have that and its workers don't have any euthasim. Now
I know why. I wouldn't either if I was treated that way.
